They ended up in New York together. They went to different schools but Sebastian convinced Kurt to move into an apartment with him. This time they had different rooms and so both could stay if they brought guys back to the apartment without sending the other one out the door.

Sebastian was still a serial dater a new guy practically every week.

Kurt was a commitment guy. His life had always been pretty rocky and upheaval was part of his life and so he sought consistency whenever and where ever he could. That meant he latched onto relationships.

He didn't always have to date, there were periods that he was single.

The time between Blaine and Chandler was a fairly big gap for Kurt. It was six months to be precise and then Kurt was dating Chandler, a guy in his Materials 101 class.

Kurt was not sure what he was going to pursue yet, he had a foot in both fashion and drama classes and that's where he met Chandler, who knew he was going into fashion. Sebastian had met him a handful of times and really wanted to point out he should probably rethink that. He could probably sew but his design and eye for fashion was seriously lacking.

Sebastian wasn't into it but he knew what he was talking about, being surrounded by it practically his whole life minus the stint at Dalton in the fashionless blazers and ugly slacks.

Kurt had always had the eye, no matter if he was paired down into a casual pair of jeans and button up or wearing one his more high end couture looks. Casual to couture, he knew fashion.

He also knew drama, perhaps far too well in all aspects of his life.

Kurt had disappeared back to Ohio for a month to take care of his dad who'd had a heart attack while he was gone. The man was in the hospital for a week and Sebastian had come back to visit each weekend but was shunted back to New York for classes. He brought Kurt's homework with him each way, dropping it off and answering professors' questions on how they were doing. They would praise him for being such a good friend, some would wonder if they were more, others were just confused by the friendship.

While Kurt was dealing with his father's medical condition, Chandler cheated. He'd probably been sleeping around before behind Kurt's back but this time Sebastian caught him in the act. He'd been dropping off the homework assignment when he spotted Chandler in one of the rooms with one of his 'models' and they were definitely not trying clothes, but rather Chandler was trying the other guy on.

Sebastian didn't want to be the barer of more bad news. He waited until Kurt was back in New York but before the two of them could do more. He forced Chandler to come clean and he did- about missing Kurt and not having Kurt there for him and basically blamed him for his cheating. He only admitted to the once occasion and claimed it was the only one and it meant nothing and he wanted to stay with Kurt. Sebastian kicked him out and got Kurt drunk and promising in his drunkness never to take Chandler back.

Kurt didn't and he was single for a little while. It had hurt to be cheated on but he had accepted it surprisingly well, had never really been in love with Chandler. Being cheated on sucked, Sebastian agreed, having had his fair number of guys hook up with other people while they'd been 'together' but never exclusive. He'd done the same but seeing how much it hurt, even when emotions weren't high and incredibly involved, taught him maybe he shouldn't do that. So if he was with a guy for more than a night or weekend, he'd ask to be exclusive while they lasted.

He went out with some girls from work one night and they had some grand idea to work at some Christmas event. Kurt was going to try on the single, free and fancy-footed. He wanted to do some meaningless hookups. He did and he landed some really attractive guys in the meantime. Then... something happened. Kurt suddenly didn't want to go out and the girls from work were coddling him and nearly suffocating him with their concern.

Sebastian asked and was brushed off. Kurt had those spooked eyes of the backseat of his car outside of Scandals again though. Sebastian's skin crawled and he asked again and again but Kurt didn't tell him, didn't want to. He'd gotten only a little out of him until Kurt shut it firmly down, he wasn't Sebastian and it wasn't the lifestyle for him, he failed in that too, couldn't do it right. Sebastian should feel ashamed to be stuck with such a loser as a best friend.

The girls knew and so he cornered one and got out exactly what happened. After he threw up in the closest receptacle he made the girl promise that she'd never tell Kurt that Sebastian got the whole story. They'd never talk about it again and Kurt should never get wind of it.

He would maintain his innocence and lack of knowledge of what happened with Cody. He never even saw the guy himself, and if he disappeared off the face of the Earth, he had nothing to do with it. He had only mentioned what happened to Kurt to one of his father's acquaintances. What happened after that was out of his hands.

He shoved Kurt into a therapist's chair though without him even realizing it. She worked part time as a hair dresser and it took months but Kurt was finally smiling again. Even longer and he was going out on dates again. Sebastian breathed easier but would vet the guys before the dates, Kurt didn't have to know that though.

None of them had records, all of them had previous relationships that had ended amicably. Sebastian would see to it that the ones who didn't make it through his net were properly redirected elsewhere. Sometimes to his own bed, usually with plans disrupted and sent to the wrong place.

Everyone Kurt dated from then on was safe and clean and nice.

They were all also incredibly boring. Sebastian would poke his ears out if he had to hear one more go on about their dog or mother or female bestie.

Kurt didn't bring many back but those who managed to make the cut and stick around for a few dates eventually had to meet Kurt's roommate in person. Some got intimated by Kurt having such an attractive gay roommate. Some hit on Sebastian. Some stuck it out but Kurt eventually tossed them back into the sea. Some Sebastian would say a well placed word and Kurt would start looking at the guy differently. Sebastian knew his power and didn't try to abuse it.

Sebastian attempted to take a page out of Kurt's book but was never able to quite achieve a book from the shelf. He dated some guys, introduced Kurt to them. Some attempted to hit on Kurt, some were intimidated by how hot and amazing Kurt was and was living with Sebastian. Some wanted a three-some. Some Sebastian would toss back into the sea and some, Kurt would say something at the right moment and Sebastian would look at them differently. Sebastian understood Kurt's power too and knew the smaller guy didn't abuse it.

Sebastian did notice that though Kurt was dating again and would share hello and goodbye kisses and sometimes more, he didn't have anyone spend the night. He didn't spend the night with anyone either. Kurt was afraid of physical intimacy again and Sebastian didn't fault him for that. He wished he could do something to reassure him though that not everyone was like that.

Kurt had just gotten the short end of the stick too many times. He had picked some really terrible guys but Sebastian had picked too safe of choices for him.

Sebastian had to snort though at one of the guys he'd brought home for himself, he was practically naked when Elliot stopped and introduced himself to Kurt. Kurt had eyed the two of them with some amusement and then the hand as if it were a deadly snake. He shook it and Elliot went into the bedroom with Sebastian.

By the time Sebastian roused the next day and came out of his empty room, Elliot and Kurt were fast friends. They started doing things together.

How things changed quickly, he mused. Elliot and Sebastian would hook up occasionally but that died off pretty soon after it started. Elliot and Kurt remained friends and even formed a band together, pulling in a girl from Elliot's work to join them.

Kurt's confidence skyrocketed and if Sebastian didn't know better, he would have thought it was because of them sleeping together. Yet he did know better, those two didn't touch and didn't do anything naked together. They were just good friends.

Sebastian felt a little queasy at the thought that maybe they were becoming best friends. That was his role in Kurt's life. He needn't have worried though. Kurt would always be his best friend and there for him, especially when he was drunk and needed Kurt.
