Today's Special

"Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad."

~Anne Geddes

Bonnie glanced at her friend from the driver's seat. Caroline's head was leaning against the window.

Her friend had tried to play cool, but Bonnie had caught how her eyes had widened when they drove by the 'Welcome to New Orleans' sign. She didn't have vampire hearing, but she was willing to bet that Caroline's heart beat had sped up.

"You know you don't have to do this right?" The witch asks. "I could have come alone."

Caroline turns to look at her friend. "Never. I wouldn't let you go through this alone."

Her determined tone only made Bonnie feel worse. Her first reaction when Caroline became a vampire was to turn her back on her. But when the blond found out about her using an expression. She had chosen to head into the fire for Bonnie.

Bonnie sends her friend a small, thankful smile. She glanced into the mirror and frowned. "But remind me again. Why is she coming along?"

In the middle of the backseat, the only and only Katherine Pierce was sitting, her legs crossed, with her signature, katty, smirk in place.

"Simple. I wanna stick it to Elijah. He made a mistake when he chose to believe Saint Elena over me." The older vampire answered.

Caroline rolled her eyes. "But you did kill Jeremy."

"And he came back." Katherine shrugged. "That doesn't change that he made a mistake. I wonder if he knows that she's the one who helped her brother kill his brother?" Katherine smirks. "And with you two backing me up. I'm sure to win."

"This isn't a game." Caroline protested.

"Oh yes it is. And I'm gonna win. I can already imagine the look on his handsome face when he realizes how wrong he was." Katherine sighed contently.

"We aren't on your side." Bonnie glared at her through the mirror.

"Oh please. I'm in this car, without an aneurysm aren't I?" Katherine argued. "Admit it. I'm growing on you."

"Yeah." Bonnie said in a 'so what' tone. "So can a fungus."

Katherine chose to ignore that statement. The only sign she heard it being when her eyebrow twitched. "Come on. Admit it. You're starting to see that hypocrite, two faced tramp for what she really is."

Out of habit Caroline wanted to rush to her friend's defense. But neither her or Bonnie had anything they could say to defend her anymore.

Bonnie needed to get out of Mystic Falls and away from Silas control. But the second she told Elena, the girl through a fit. Saying how she needed Bonnie. And how Bonnie owed her.

For the first time, Bonnie truly saw Elena for who she truly was.

But what surprised her even more, was Caroline's reaction.

"You're kidding me! This is your fault. You couldn't save me, and now I'm a vampire! You can't just leave me!" Elena screamed at her.

Hearing that, something in Caroline just snapped and in an instant Caroline had slapped Elena hard on the face, sending the girl tumbling to the ground in shock.

Everyone stared at the blond in, not knowing what to do. Before they could catch up with the situation, Caroline grabbed Elena by her hair and yanked her up so she could look Bonnie in the eyes. "Now you listen here. If I ever hear such B.S. coming from your mouth again, I swear to god I will have Rebekah compel you to repeatedly cut off your tongue every time it grows back, for the rest of your miserable existence." She growled, her vampire face appearing.

Elena struggled in her grasp, but Caroline quickly stabbed her in the leg with her high heels. The thin, pencil-like structure easily ripping through flesh and muscle with the blond vampire strength.

"Bonnie's grandmother died to save your worthless skin, and your boyfriends. Bonnie nearly died to protect you from Klaus. She took on the burden of your uncle's death, so you could live. Bonnie was the one who once again saved you from Klaus, when he found out how to make hybrids. Bonnie was the one who brought your whiny, cheating brother's back to life. Bonnie's mother got turned into a vampire, because of you. She did everything she could to save you pathetic ass so you wouldn't have to turn, and then gave you a daylight ring after. So don't you dare. Don't you ever dare say that she owes you. She owes you nothing." Caroline spat, ripping a wooden table leg off and stabbing Elena in the stomach.

The brunette's scream finally snapped the brother's out of their daze. Stefan instantly rushed to Elena's side, well Damon charged at her.

But before she could react, a blur sped by her and pinned Damon to the wall. "Miss me?" Katherine smirked.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Damon demanded, struggling to break free so he could once again charge at Caroline.

"Nah, uh." Katherine waved a finger in his face, well instantly keeping him pinned down with one hand. "I wouldn't do that. Or have you suddenly forgotten that Klaus has a thing for her."

Damon paled at the reminder.

Caroline looked at the vampire doppelganger in surprise. "Why?"

Katherine smirked. "Like I said. Klaus has a thing for you. And with my relationship with him. Having a little blond distraction for a quick get away. Will be very useful."

So 24 hours later.

Here they are. Bags packed, and in a completely different state.

One, where the originals run the show.

Bonnie exited the car, "You sure this is the right place?"

Katherine rolled her eyes. "Of course it is. I mean just look at the giant 'M'. What do you think it stands for?"

"Muffins?" Caroline joked, trying to ease her nervousness.

"Well if you asked him. I'm pretty sure by the next day Klaus would have everyone saying that's what it stands for." Katherine smirked at her.

"So… what do we do now?" Caroline asked.

"I don't know. I forgot to plan that far ahead." Bonnie answered honestly. All she knew was that she needed to get out of Mystic Falls, and that New Orleans is a supernatural hub. "Do we just walk up and knock on the door?"

"Please," Katherine scoffed. "The only one who could survive that would be sunshine. Then again, she could always just stroll in there as if she owns the place and the only thing the big bad wolf would be upset about is that she didn't give him time to roll out the red carpet."

Caroline opened her mouth to say something but was caught by surprise when someone flashed behind her and snapped her neck.

"Caroline!" Bonnie screamed in shock. She wanted to help her friend. But wouldn't be able to do an attack spell because of her expression, without Caroline getting caught in it as well.

Katherine instantly moved to grab her, but was cut off by a witch aneurysm coming her way. Katherine grunted, but quickly stood to attack, but the vampire who snapped Caroline's neck, pinned the weakened vampire to the wall before she could.

Klaus was giving out orders when he heard a familiar voice scream, "Caroline!" He instantly recognized the voice as belonging to the Bennett witch and flashed outside to see what was happening.

Elijah following him out.

The sight they saw made the brother's blood boil. For different, yet the same reasons, at the same time.

Klaus felt rage consume him as he saw HIS Caroline on the sidewalk, next to Marcel's little witch. His neck was bent at an odd angle, clearly indicating that it had been snapped.

Child or not. There were some crimes Klaus simply could not look past. Hurting his Queen was one of them.

Elijah's eyes zoned in onto Katherine, who looked dizzy as a result of the spell she was hit with, being pushed against a wall by Marcel.

Despite how they had left things. He instantly rushed forward and ripped the man off the doppelganger, and collected her in his arms protectively.

Elijah glanced at his brother. But to his surprise, Klaus was kneeling next to the baby vampire on the ground, and scooping her up into his arms.

"What happened here?" Klaus demanded, once Caroline was safely in his arms, her head resting on his shoulder.

Marcel got up, confused. "There was an unknown vampire, and a witch… and Katherine." he defended himself.

"Why did you attack Caroline?" Klaus demanded.

Marcel felt his blood freeze in his veins. He had heard Rebekah mention the girl a couple times. But the baby vampire he attacked really was her then…

"Listen, man. I had no idea. I if I did then I couldn't have-"

Marcel was cut off by Klaus' wolf rising to the surface, and his eyes flashing golden in anger. "That doesn't change what you did. For that-"

Whatever Klaus was about to see was cut off by Caroline beginning to wake up in his arms. "What?" Caroline gasped, instantly wrapping her arms around Klaus' neck so she wouldn't fall. "What happened?"

She began gently moving her neck around, almost snuggling it angst Klaus' to take away some of the discomfort the broken neck brought.

Seeing her exhausted face, Klaus decided to stop and take a step back. "Come on. Let's get some blood in you."

Klaus carried Caroline inside and set her on the couch. As soon as she was down, Bonnie and Katherine rushed to her side.

When Marcel and Davina trailed behind at a slower pace. They came into the unusual sight of Klaus HIMSELF getting a glass of blood for the baby vampire.

Well Elijah stood behind a chair, his eyes never leaving Katherine who was sitting next to Caroline.

Bonnie was standing behind Caroline, her hands reassuringly on her blond's shoulders. She wouldn't risk attacking anyone with expression. But protective spells weren't completely out of the equation yet. So having her best friend in her reach, helped comfort the witch as well.

Klaus handed Caroline a glass of B+, her favorite blood type and gave her a once over. Making sure she nothing was wrong with her.

"Now that's out of the way. Why are you here Caroline?" Klaus asked. "Not that I'm not happy to see you. But I thought it would be at least a couple more decades before you were ready to take up my offer."

"I'm not here for that. We're here for Bonnie." At Caroline's answer, everyone's gaze turned to the Bennett witch.

Seeing that the originals were waiting for an answer for why they were in their city. She sighed. "I've been using expression, and am now trying to get out of it. I know there are a lot of witches here. I figured that at least one of them may know how to help me."

"You can't." Marcel quickly stepped in. "There's a ban on witches using magic."

Caroline quickly turned to Klaus, she raised a delegate eyebrow. "Is there now?"

"There is." Marcel growled. "No exceptions."

Caroline shrugged and quickly stood up, "I guess we have no reason to stay here then. Do we?" She asked Bonnie.

Klaus quickly walked in front of her. "Come now sweetheart. You know I'd be more than happy to lift the ban for you."

Davina gasped, rage quickly consuming her face. "You can't. They can't use magic because they tried to kill me!"

Klaus growled, and turned his anger filled gaze at the girl. If she was the reason Caroline left. Then his wolf would tear her to shreds.

Caroline gently grabbed Klaus arm, and ran her thumb over the area. Calming him down. She then turned to the young witch. "Do every witch in New Orleans try to kill you?" she asked calmly.

Davina, took a step back. "Well no. That-"

But Caroline wasn't having any of her excuses. "Then you have no right to ban all witches from using magic. Only the ones who committed the crime should be punished. The rest are suffering because you are being vindictive and hateful." She said bluntly, not even trying to sugar coat her words. "What about the little girls who wouldn't even know they had magic. Because you had it banned?" She then turned to Klaus. "Those girls would never get to know that part of themselves. You wanna punish people for trying to hurt a child. I'm all for it. But don't punish the innocent for crimes they did not commit. Remove the ban on witches not being allowed to do magic; and punish the ones who break the rules accordingly." she demanded. Her voice then softened, "You want to earn their loyalty. Show them that they can trust you to be a good leader. Punishing the innocent creates enemies. Mercy isn't a weakness. It earns loyalty, and trust. Show them compassion. Show them they can trust you. And you won't have to look over your shoulder everyday."

Marcel opened his mouth to protest, but was stopped by Klaus putting up a finger. He wasn't king anymore. So all decisions would be Klaus.

And the hybrid has never been good at denying his mate. "I just can't deny you anything." He stated, more than asked. Chuckling, moving a loose curl out of her face. "Whatever the queen wishes."

"Wow. She really does have you wrapped around her little finger doesn't she." Bonnie gasped.

"More like a strand of her hair." Katherine couldn't help but comment.

Klaus finally zoned onto Katherine, now that he knew Caroline was fine. "You must really have a death wish Katherine."

"Klaus. No." Caroline told him firmly. "She's my friend. My friends are off limits for your little murdere sprees."

Marcel gaped at her. She must really have a death wish. No way Klaus would let that slide.

Meanwhile, Klaus was having a debate with himself. And weigh the pros and cons of killing Katherine. Caroline would have to eventually forgive him. But she was loyal, and stubborn. He was more than convinced her anger could last for centuries.

Would Katherine's death really be worth it?

For a cure needed to wait five hundred more years to break?

Yes.

For his Queen's anger?

No.

So his hands were tied.

Elijah and Katherine waited. There was a good chance he would kill her either way. But could Caroline really…

"Fine. She's free." Klaus waved his hand in the air at Katherine.

The hybrid turned to Caroline, gently taking her hand into his, he sighed. "I just can't say no when you're the one asking, can I?"

Caroline smiled, "Whatever the Queen wishes. Remember?"

Elijah smiled, and flashed towards Katherine.

"Katerina…" he said, breathlessly.

"Elijah." Katherine gave him a small smile, one he returned, until her hand cut through the air and slapped his cheek. A sharp whip-like sound echoing through the air.

Caroline blinked, surprised. She had expected it, but not at the same time. Well Klaus let out a laugh at the look on his brother's face.

Elijah opened his mouth to speak, but Katherine wasn't having it. Pointing a perfectly manicured finger at his chest, she stepped forward. "Now you listen here, you handsome imbecile. When you choose to believe little Mis. Goodie-Two-Shoes over me, you made the biggest mistake over your life. I mean just look. Even Bonnie finally saw the error of her ways, well sweet little Caroline doesn't have the words to defend that two-faced tramp anymore."

"Katerina, please-"

"No. You're gonna shut up and listen." Katherine barked. "Do you even know how Saint Elena completed the mark to get the cure?" Seeing his confused face, she smirked. "Saint Elena, and her brother, Jeremy, completed the hunters to get the cure by killing Kol, and wiping out his line."

Elijah paled. He had no idea.

"Yeah. I bet you'd only need to kill about 35 vampires to complete the mark. But they choose to committee mass genocide instead of turning thirty or so random scum. And that was AFTER Klaus decided to generously turn a bar full of drunkards into baby vampires for them to kill."

"Katerina. I had no idea. I swear-"

"Oh? Like how you swore to get me my freedom? Even if you didn't like my actions. You went back on your word. Even after I choose to do the first selfless thing in years and give you the cure." Katherine said, her heartbreak seeping into her voice.

Elijah wrapped his arms around Katherine, but the doppelganger pushed him away. "Oh no. You don't just get to do that. You are gonna have to work and grovel for a long time before you ever get that privilege back."

Elijah nodded, determined, earning a small smile from Katherine. But their moment was ruined when Hayley burst through the door.

"Elijah- What?" The she-wolf asked, confused to see Bonnie, Caroline and Katherine there. At this point she was five months pregnant, and her very prominent belly was fully on display.

"Who had the misfortune of knocking you up?" Katherine smirked.

"Klaus Mikaelson. You know. The guy you've been running from for centuries." Hayley snapped.

Klaus felt dread fill him and instantly turned to Caroline. Who had gone still in his arms. "Love, listen…"

But whatever he was saying was going over Caroline's head. She felt like she was underwater and everything was being said from miles away.

She knew she liked Klaus.

But that was it.

Sure they slept together once.

But that was all it ever was.

Was she really that crazy to think that he…

…that he loved her?

God, it felt like someone had their hand around her heart and was crushing it and squeezing the air from her lungs.

Why did she have to feel this?

She doesn't want to feel this.

Wouldn't it be easier to just-

Katherine flashed to Caroline's side and slapped her hard enough for a bright red mark to appear. She ignored Klaus growl and focused on the baby vampire. "Snap out of it! Don't you dare turn it off. No man is ever worth that. No man is worth your humanity." Katherine ordered, bringing the baby vampire back to her senses.

Klaus pushed Katherine aside, and desperately tried to talk to her. He doesn't know what it was. But something was different about her scent, and it was driving his wolf crazier. Well crazier than she usually made him. "Sweetheart listen-"

"What?" Caroline scoffed. "You're gonna tell me she doesn't mean anything? That it was once and done?"

Klaus paused. That was exactly what he was gonna say. But he meant it. The wolf meant nothing to him. The only reason she was here was because of Elijah.

"Don't bother. Tyler said the exact same thing." She said, tearing up.

"What?" Klaus asked, confused.

Hayley slowly backed away.

Shit. She really didn't like where this conversation was heading. She needed to do something. And she needed to do it fast. "I wouldn't be here if they didn't care about me." She said, her nose in the air.

Klaus growled at her, but was interpreted by Caroline. "No. She's right. She clearly means something. Or she wouldn't be here. God. I guess I was the idiot who thought you were serious. The entire time you tried to get me to go out with you. I thought you actually cared. But of course you saw me as nothing but a challenge.""

Yes, her plan was working. But too bad for Hayley. Bonnie had already caught on. "What do you mean 'that's what Tyler said'? Care did he…"

Caroline nodded. "Yep. There was a reason I always called her were-slut. She slept with Tyler."

"Yeah. Well now I'm carrying Klaus' children. It's nature's loophole." Hayley protested.

But she had just unknowingly dug her own grave by giving Bonnie that piece of information.

"Wait? Can't the child be Tyler's then. He's a hybrid too. If nature's loophole applies to Klaus the…"

"It can apply to Lockwood as well. The child may not be mine." Klaus said, hopeful.

"I can easily do a spell to determine the child's paternity." Bonnie offered. Wanting to do anything to help her friend. She honestly knew Caroline would be less devastated if the child was Tyler's instead of Klaus'.

But Hayley frantically shook her. "No. I don't want to."

"You're not gonna have a choice." Klaus growled at her.

Hayley turned to Elijah, but the older original only had eyes for Katherine. "Elijah. Please. What if it harms the baby?" She begged.

That caught his attention, he opened his mouth, but Klaus shook his head. "Stay out of this brother."

Caroline finally calmed down, and glared at Hayley. "Fine. Don't do a spell." To everyone's surprised faces, she rolled her eyes. "Please. It's the 21ist century. Do a DNA test. You're far enough along. Don't worry, it won't harm the baby." she smiled too sweetly at Hayley.

Hayley's feet tapped nervously as they waited for the test results. The doctors had already collected a sample of the baby's blood, and Klaus' blood.

They are going to find out what she did.

Bonnie was going through her phone and answering emails.

Katherine was flipping through a random magazine, well Elijah stared longingly at her.

Klaus was desperately trying to get Caroline, who is currently giving him the silent treatment, to talk to him. But blond was determined, continuing to face the other. Though she couldn't help but glance back at him every so often.

The compelled nurse came back into the room. "Mr. Mikaelson. We have the results." she said, handing them the report.

Hayley felt like her heart was going to beat out of her chest, as she watched Klaus casually flip through the test results.

Then he smirked, and handed them to Elijah. "I was right all along." Ever since Sophie had called them, his wolf hadn't even reacted to Hayley, or the child she carried. So he was sure that the child couldn't possibly be his. It was only because of Elijah that he even put up with the she-wolf.

And now that he was sure that the child wasn't his. There was nothing that could save the wolf.

"Wait. The test could be wrong. Let's do the spell." Hayley begged, desperately grasping at straws.

"Sure." Bonnie shrugged, casually.

Though the child may not be his brother's. Elijah was still concerned about what could happen to the unborn life. "And expression? It won't affect it?"

"No." Bonnie shook her head. "It's not like I'm gonna be using an attack spell. It'll be a revealing spell. Nothing harmful." She then turned to Klaus. "Because I'm gonna be testing to see if the child is yours, I'll need your blood. But because I still can't control my magic properly, the worst thing the spell would do is affect all the women in the vicinity." She then turned to Hayley. "Your abdomen will glow if you are pregnant with Klaus' child. And if you aren't, oh well."

The witch turns to Klaus, holding her hand out. He glances at it, before biting into his wrist and letting the blood flow into her hand. "Pepi pepi, ko ia to matua" Bonnie chanted, as her magic began to spread throughout the room.

To no one's surprise. Hayley's stomach didn't react. They were so focused on the werewolf, that they didn't notice Caroline's until she spoke up. "Bonnie." The blond called. "What the hell is happening."

Everyone turned around to look at Caroline, all their eyes widening as they saw the small, faint glow imitating from Caroline's stomach.

"What the hell?" Katherine asked, not sure what else to say.

Everyone stared at Klaus, waiting for a reaction. When the hybrid's rain finally processed what it meant, he turned to Bonnie. "Does that mean, what I think it means?"

Bonnie nodded. "I used your blood in the spell. So it would reveal anyone who's pregnant with your child. Hayley didn't glow. But Care…"

"So I'm pregnant." The baby vampire asked, unable to wrap her head around it. "I don't get it. How's that possible?"

Bonnie sat down, and gently sat her friend down next to her. "Care. If Klaus truly is nature's loophole. Then he can get you pregnant."

"But I'm a vampire." Caroline protested.

"Yeah. If I had to guess. You have an egg hanging around in there. So it's like it's frozen. It is possible." Bonnie reminded her friend of grade 12 Biology.

"Yeah, but I've had sex before." Caroline reminded her friend. "Wouldn't it have happened before."

"Yes, and no." Katherine spoke up. "Getting pregnant isn't that easy. Some couples can try for years, and still have trouble. Quit a bit of timing, and luck is involved in the process. And I guess the big bad wolf hit the jackpot."

Caroline's breathing picked up as she realized that this was really happening. "Care." Bonnie tried to calm her friend down, but she didn't react.

The baby vampire was snapped out of her haze when she felt a pair of hands, gently wrap around hers. She looks down to find a smiling Klaus, kneeling in front of her.

"We're going to be parents." She could hear the undertones of fear in his voice, but the fear was clearly overpowered by his joy at the news.

"We're going to be parents." Caroline repeated, laughing as she felt her uneasiness slip away.

Sure this would be scary. But looking around the room, she realized she wouldn't be doing this alone.

She's gonna have her friends and family with her, and Klaus would be beside her every step of the way.

I was just watching an amv. And realized before (gag) Hayley slept with Klaus. She used Caroline's name to try to control him. (I think she also used Caroline, into goading Klaus to sleep with Her - I wouldn't know. I won't touch at scene with a 10 feet pole unless it's a reaction video where everyone is going 'Hell No')

I kind of find it funny. Hayley only riled up Klaus (into sleeping with her) AFTER she mentioned Caroline. How desperate was she?

So that really gave me the urge to write Hayley bashing, so here we are.

I gotta admit, did nobody consider doing a D.N.A test? Especially when he believed the children weren't his.

I also added Katherine, because why not.

I do have some things planned out for a part 2. When part 2 will be coming out, I'm not sure. But what I do know is that the second part is likely gonna be quite a bit shorter than the 1st.

Anyways,

KLAROLINE FOR LIFE BECAUSE I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP!
