Heya readers, it's good to be back! (─‿‿─)
Ok so this is gonna be a long author's note, I want to try and explain my plot ideas as best as I can, while also trying very hard not to spoil.
Right off the bat; since this is the "Next Generation" the main cast are much older, in the cartoon and comics it's hard to predict on "where are they now?" I did some digging as best as I could, and the only thing that stood out was the relationship between Cornelia and Caleb.
Again, I only ever watched the cartoon, but the wiki said that they don't end up together and that Celeb returns to Meridian and falls in love with Elyon. I'm glad I caught that because I would have carried the CorneliaxCeleb all the way. But I guess this works on where I'm going with my story.
Like I said, we or I don't know the "where are they now", so I'm assuming being queen, Elyon got married and had children of her own. I could never find who she ends up with, but if it's Celeb that works. So in my story, Elyon is an elder queen with her children and grandchildren, who are descended from her late husband Celeb.
As for W.I.T.C.H. they will be in the story, I wanted a few of them to be members of the Congregation of Kandrakar and be like mentors to R.A.V.E.N.
Alright! I hope that explains everything, and all I have to say is you have to wait and see. ;)
There was nothing but darkness, like a thick black fog that covered everything, the atmosphere was completely empty. Amalthea wrapped her arms around herself, as she walked through the fog, not knowing where she was or where she was going.
"H-Hello?" she called out, her voice echoed all around, "Is anyone there?" continuing to walk through the open pit of black, she suddenly her a horrible "crack!" from under her feet. Going still she looked down, it was a broken bone. Gasping, she backed away, only to step on more. The fog from under her feet cleared, showing nothing but bones of all sorts. Humans, monsters and creatures from Meridian. Amalthea started to hyperventilate, sweat was poring down her face. The darkness finally cleared, only to reveal a destroyed Meridian; houses were up in flames, the ground was dry and cracked, the sky was gray thick with smug in the air. And in the distance, Castle Meridian; burning to the ground.
"What's going on...?!" Amalthea gasped, backing away. This has to be a dream... yeah that's right, she needs to wake up! Shutting her eyes, she chanted, "Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!"
"GGGRRRLLLGGGLLLLE..." came a horrible, monstrous sound from behind. Amalthea's eyes shot opened; she recognized that growl... Frozen and shaking in fear, she slowly turned her head, only to swing it back. Shutting her eyes again, this time tight, she placed her hands over her ears.
"N-No... Y-You're not real... You're dead..." she voice shacked, tears formed in her eyes, "Y-You died! YOU'RE NOT REAL!" she screamed.
Suddenly, the earth shook with tremendous force, knocking her down, the ground gave away breaking apart, till an eerie green glow shot out from the crevice. Out burst long rotting arms, grabbing on the dirt, lifting the monsters out, like zombies. Only two stood out the most, towering like giants, their flesh rotting off their bodies, with glowing chains wrapped around their necks and wrists, their eyes solid yellow. One had a serpent body, and the other looked like a four armed spider with it's fur falling off. They groaned in agony, spotting the girl on the floor. Then a third one crawled out, standing in front; it's body completely covered in a dark black tar, with some parts of a skeleton showings, it's eyes glowed bright.
Amalthea was beyond frightened, but gathering as much bravery as she could, she held out her hand, "Quintessence!" she chanted, but no magic shot out from her hand, "What?!"
The tar monster curled back, like it had no spine, and let out an ear-piecing shriek. Amalthea covered her ears again. It then keeled forward facing her, opening it's mouth as tar fell out, it growled in a broken human voice, "ROYAL BLOOD WILL SPILL... MY CENTRY LONG REVENGE WILL BE FULFILLED... MERIDIAN AND EARTH WILL DIE... AS THE UNDEAD WILL RISE!"
Amalthea gasped for air, eyes shot opened, standing up in her bed. Wide awake and in a cold sweat, she touched around her collar-bone, feeling the heart safely around neck. Sighing in relief, she flopped back down on her pillow, "What the hell was that...?" she muttered, thinking back to her dream, if you can call it that. More like a nightmare, or maybe... a vision? Was it even possible for her to get visions?
The sun shined through her balcony, lighting up her room. Amalthea was lucky enough to get a few hours of sleep, but she was dreading to go to school today. Groaning, she forced herself out of bed and headed to her bathroom. Showering and putting on her uniform, Amalthea packed her satchel-handbag with her homework and pack her violin in it's case.
She still had a little bit of time left for breakfast and headed to the dinning-room. But as she entered the large room and sat in her usual spot, the empty chair on the opposite end made her frown. She was still having a hard time believing what happened just hours ago and what was worse, was the fact that the hole city probably now knew about Xanatos arrest; meaning, it was going to be the hot gossip at her school.
Owen then came in the room, carrying a tray of French-toast topped with pear slices, syrup and a glass of orange-juice, "Good morning, Miss Amalthea," he greeted his mistress, setting her breakfast down in front of her.
"Good morning Owen, and thank you," she was still feeling down, but she appreciated that her butler made her favorite breakfast, in an attempt to lighten her mood.
"We should be leaving in ten minutes. Do you have everything you need?" Owen asked, looking down at his wrist-watch. Amalthea nodded yes, as she chewed her food. Quickly finishing, they both headed to the elevator, going all the way down to the first floor, "Since the media is crowding at the front, we will be taking the back." he informed her, walking into the parking lot.
The butler opened the limo's door and Amalthea climbed in. Taking the back rout from behind the building, they circled around and drove off. Amalthea took a glance from the back window; sure enough, in the front of Eyrie Building was dozens on news reporters, all waiting to interview her.
The teenager groaned, slumping down in her seat, looking out the window in silence. Finally, Owen spoke, "Your father's trail will be happening on Friday, you are not required to attended if you don't want to."
Amalthea frowned, clutching the pendent in her hand like a stress ball, "Dose he want me there?"
"...He would be at ease if you didn't," there was an awkward pause. Owen then continued, "You do not have to worry, Miss Amalthea, whatever your father will be charged with will not be severe. And in the mean time, things will go back to the way they were."
"No they won't..." Amalthea looked through the rear-view mirror, staring directly at the butler, "Daily routines will be the same, but relationships won't ever go back to the way they were," she then narrowed her eyes at him, "So, while my dad is in prison, I will start making the orders. Since I am the air of the Xanatos company, me first order is that NO harm, is to come of the gargoyles. They are my guest and will stay that way for a long as possible."
Owen didn't say anything, but bowed his head respectively. She was right, the only child of Xanatos will take over the company, and while his boss is temporarily behind bars, he would have to be taking orders from her, Spoken like a true Xanatos, my lady, the butler commented.
Arriving at Aquarius Academy, Amalthea let herself out. Thankfully there were no reporters on campus (mainly because it was private property and guarded). With her bag and her violin-case in hand, she stared up at large brick building. There was tension in the air, and that feeling of dread was back. Aquarius was basically a school for the wealthy; kids who's parents either own company's, or were celebrities'. And since Xanatos was basically the richest businessman not only in the city but also know throughout the the world, it's without question that Xanato's arrest was the hottest gossip right now.
Amalthea slowly inhaled before exhaling, preparing herself; she can handle stupid gossip, she faced worst enemies. And if there was one good advice she was given by both of her parents, it was, "Show the enemy no fear."
Putting on her game face, she walked up the stairs and heading inside. As soon as she opened the doors, and began walking down the hall, other students took notice of her; some watched her, while other whispered to their friends. But Amalthea payed no mind, she had a title to withhold. Opening her locker, she placed her violin-case inside, but as she was gathering her books for first period, an annoying voice called out to her.
"Well, look who it is~, the lady in questioning," Amalthea frowned, but acted unfazed as she looked to her right to see Rebecca Chandler, along side her was Diana Turner and Madison Rose, "I'm surprised you have the guts to show your face in school today~." Rebecca smirked crossing her arms.
Amalthea kept her composer up, holding her books to her chest and closed her locker, looking at the girls with eyes half-closed, "Good morning to you too Chandler. And why wouldn't I be at school today?" she already knew, but wanted to hear what she had to say.
"Well, if you didn't already know, which I doubt, your dear daddy was arrested last night~." Rebecca smirked, flipping her hand through her long black hair.
"That must be really embarrassing for you." Madison placed her hand on her hip, smirking as well.
"I wouldn't be caught dead in public on something so horrific," Diana added.
"I can only imagine how this will sink your families reputation into the ground~." Rebecca giggled, her two 'friends' joining in.
Amalthea raised her brow, so that's how she was gonna play? "Really? Is that what your dad is telling you? Because last I checked, your 'dear daddy's' company has decreased in financials for over four months now," That cocky smirk on Rebecca's face vanished. Taking it a step further Amalthea went on, "My dad has been allowing your company to co-work with each other for more profit, but since he is temporarily absent, that leaves me in charge," she stepped closer, making them back up, "If there is a reputation that you should be worried about, it be yours. Because if your dad keeps slipping through the cracks, then I'm tempted to cut ties with our parent's agreement all together."
Rebecca's eyes widened, before glaring, "You wouldn't..." she growled, gritting her teeth.
Amalthea narrowed her eyes, "I would, if he doesn't get his shit together," if there was one thing Amalthea hated, it was to use her families wealth and power to her own advantages, which is a terrible thing she picked up from her father. But you can't always be generous, that's just not how large businesses work. And while there are some like the Chandlers who will flont and brag (not like Xanatos ever did that too) in the end, it's Xanatos who own 70% of every company.
Once shown that she wasn't going to take anyone's crap, Amalthea finished by saying, "You girls have a nice day," and walked through them, copying Rebecca's hair-flip. Leaving the black-haired girl biting her nails in anger. Once she was around the corner, she sighed out, that was excruciating.
"Having a rough morning?" Vidia asked through telepathy. The psychic just couldn't stop snooping into other peoples problems. Not that the girls really mind, and right now Amalthea needed it.
"You have no idea..." she groaned in her mind, walking into the classroom, where more people started staring and whispering at her. She just ignored them and took her seat, "Aren't you in class right now?"
"Yeah, I'm tuning the teacher out right now. The others and I had a plan about breaking you out of school today."
Amalthea smiled, "Oh yeah? What plan?"
"We were gonna tella-transport over, Emily would turn invisible and pull the fire alarm, while I would make a small fire and trigger the sprinklers." she said very proudly.
Amalthea quietly giggled, "Oooh, that is very tempting... But I think I'm good. Besides, I look forward to tonight."
"So, we're finally meeting them, hu?"
"Yep. Did you get in contact with Queen Elyon?"
"Yes, she's well aware of our arrive tonight. And the counsel will also be there."
That was good to know, they too needed to be up to date. Amalthea's smile widened, hopefully she'll see her mentor tonight. Spotting the teacher Amalthea finished, "Gotta go, see you guys at the park tonight."
"Later."
During lunch, Amalthea decided to eat in the court-yard; for some peace and quite. The fresh air felt nice, as she enjoyed the cafeteria lunch, under a large tree.
But as she ate all by her lonesomeness, she kept thinking about her friends meeting the gargoyles. She was more considered with Rae, since Elisa was now in the picture. Would she tell her daughter the truth? Probably not. Rae sounded very upset last night during their phone-call; for three years all five of them have been able to hide their guardian identities a secret from their families. But now (thanks to her dad) awakening thousand year old gargoyles from their slumber, is most defiantly gonna be an extra challenging. She knew it wasn't her new friend's fault, but what could she do?
Her father wasn't going to spend the rest of his life behind bars, and once he returns, they would be in danger again, she knew that Owen wouldn't go back on her orders, but what if her father was giving direct orders while he was in jail? Their home may not be safe anymore. But where would they go? They were still new to this world, and she had only scratched the surface of 21th century. "Maybe... they'd be safer in Meridian?" Amalthea frowned. Could that work? She knew there weren't actual gargoyles in Meridian, but the planet was set in a medieval/fantasy timeline. Something that might be more casual for them? She knew the castle was their home, and it was their right to choose. But... they can't stay there forever.
"Hey, I thought I'd find you here," came a friendly voice. Amalthea snapped out of her deep thinking and looked up to see her classmate/friend Louise Miller.
Amalthea smiled up at her African-American friend, "Hi Louise, care to join me?"
Louise smiled, bowing, "It would be an honor, fair lady~." he spoke in a British accent, before sitting down on the brick bench/tree-pot.
"You working on a new character?" Amalthea giggled. Louise was part of the Theatre Club, and he would usually practice in front of Amalthea for fun and feedback.
Louise lightly chuckled, readjusting his square-glasses, "Na, just wanted to get you to smile. How are you doing?" he asked in sympathy.
Amalthea sighed, "So far, not great. I could care less what people think of me, it's just..." she didn't know what to say.
"It's your relationship with your dad that's more concerning, am I right?" Louise frowned, watching his friend nod, "Was it... serious?" he casually asked, before realizing how stupid that sounded. Of course it's always serious when someone is arrested.
"No... not in the way everyone is thinking it is. My guess is he'll only have a few months, weeks maybe." The two teenagers sat in silent, eating their lunches, before Amalthea finally asked, "So, how are you? Did your club figure out what play they want to do this year?"
"Y-Yeah, but lately though, everyone wants to see something new and original, not some Disney/Broadway musical for high schoolers." Louise rubbed his neck, just thinking about it gave him a headache, "But we narrowed down some ideas and have come up with a original show!" he cheered up quick.
Amalthea smiled, "Really? That's great! What's it gonna be?"
Louise smirked with confidence, standing up on the bench, pushing up his glasses like an anime character, "It will be a musical love story between to the two Greek-Gods Hades and Persephone!" He pointed to the sky. He stayed in the pose, waiting for Amalthea to react.
It took her a few seconds, "Oooh! Wait. It's that like a Romeo and Juliet story?"
Louise entire frame crashed back down to earth, "Y-Yeah- but, they don't die! See it's different!" he tried to explain.
Amalthea tried not to giggle, knowing it probably took them a long time to figure a story out, "Well, I look forward to seeing it."
"That's great!" Louise' smiled return, sitting back down, "Because... I need a favor from you..."
Amalthea frown, already knowing what he was gonna ask, "I am not preforming." even though the girl had gone to hundreds of parties (most of those were hosted by the Xanatos') and being a sort-of battle leader in another dimension, the one thing that Amalthea could not do was get up on a stage and act.
"It's not that kind of role!" Louise protested, trying to real her back in, "We need flower nymphs' for Persephone, and the group said let's get someone who can play an instruments and I... recommended you..." he muttered the last. Amalthea's frown deepen, and went back to eating, "You don't have any lines! All you have to do is be in the background playing your violin."
"And be in costume?"
"...And be in costume." Louise sweated.
Amalthea sighed, as much as she disliked the stage, she had a hard time not helping a friend in need, "Can I have some time to think it over?"
Louise brightened up, "Yes, absolutely! Just call me when you've decided!" Amalthea gave a small smiled, seeing her friend all happy and excided.
Their lunch time was over when they heard the bell ring, "Well, I better get to next period," Amalthea sat up, grabbing her satchel-bag, while taking her lunch tray back inside, "Remember, it's a MAYBE!" she looked over her shoulder back to Loise, who just laughed.
It was the ending of the last period; the bell rang and everyone was packing up to head home. As Amalthea was stuffing her books in her bag, her history teacher suddenly stepped in front of her desk, "Amalthea, can I have a word with you?"
Amalthea blinked, "Um... sure?" they waited till they were the only ones left in the classroom, "Is something the matter, Mr. Gonzalas?" she politely asked.
Mr. Gonzalas leaned back on his desk, "I had recently heard of your father's arrest."
Oh my GOD, dose EVERYONE want inside information?! Amalthea screamed in her head, but kept her composer, "Y-Yes? Is... this what we're talking about?" she tried to sound polite, but really what was the point? And why was her TEACHER talking about this privately to her?!
"You're a very good student Amalthea, I was just concerned that maybe you need someone to talk to."
the teenager felt a thunder storm rumbling in her chest, ready to break at any moment. Now realizing what her teacher's motivation was; Xanatois had donated a lot to Aquarius Academy in helping with fundraisers. And while yes, he was arrested and most likely will go to jail, his reputation will probably not receive backlash. No one dares ridicule someone with that title, not with the power he had. Now that Amalthea's father was absent, it seemed that her history teacher was now trying to show sympathy and support, in hopes to get praised by Xanatos.
At that point, the girl had had enough, "You're not the counselor Mr. Gonzalas. And I find it rather disgusting that you're lecturing me in order to get brownie-points form my father. I am not in the need to talking with someone, who only plans to use it for his own benefits. If you really were worried for me, then you should bring it up with the school board, not corner me in an empty classroom." she sneered, speaking a bit louder, sense the security cameras will pick up on it.
Mr. Gonzalas' eyes widened, his brow twitched slightly. There was nothing left to say, Amalthea picked up her bag and exited the classroom, but not before threatening, "You should pray that I don't report this to head of the school or worse my father." and left.
Amalthea stormed through the hallways and out the front doors, where Owen was waiting. Opening the limo-door for his mistress, she climbed in. The teenager groaned irritated, dropping her stuff down. She checked her phone, it was 3:15, only five hours left before sundown, she wanted nothing more then to just hangout with her friends.
"Owen, I'm gonna be out tonight with the gargoyles," she gave her butler a heads up.
Thankfully Owen wasn't the type to object, "Understood, just try not to stay out too late."
Back at Eyrie Building the news was still there, so they had to take the back again. Once back inside the castle, Amalthea headed straight to her room, and plopped down on the bed, kicking off her shoes. Sighing, she relaxed in the sheets, but her peace and quiet only lasted for 30 seconds before her phone started ringing. Groaning out, she flipped on her back and answered, "Hello?"
"Sorry, I know you just got out of school, but I'm just so excited!" Emily squealed.
"Em, they're just regular mythical beasts, we've seen them all," Rae said, not sounding too thrilled.
"Hey Thea, what should I wear?" Vidia asked, no doubt looking herself in the mirror holding up clothes.
"I don't think it really matters, just go as you are," Amalthea rubbed her eyes.
"Uh, YES it matters! First impressions are everything!" Vidia argued back, "Have they seen you in anything but your uniform?"
Amalthea frowned, "What? I don't feel like changing. If I'm not worried about what I look like, then neither should any of you."
"I just hope they're gonna be nice..." Naomi muttered.
"They better be," Rae growled.
"Ok, can you guys just relax please?!" Amalthea shouted, getting them to zip-it, "Just dress like yo normally do, and don't worry. Yes, they look intimating, but they are the nicest creatures I've ever meant. NICER then anything we've ever meant."
There was a moment on silence in the group-chat, before Emily replied, "Do you think they'll be into gamming?!"
Amalthea smiled, giggling, "They'll be interested in everything. Just go slow for them, they're still trying to learn 21st-centery slang. Now if you girls don't mind," she yawned on cue, "I'd like to spend the next four hours catching up on sleep."
"Ok, see you at seven Thea." Rae added before they all ended the call.
Amalthea sighed, wrapping herself in the blanket, she dozed off.
Rae grumbled; there was only one hour left before their group meeting. She had finished her homework (besides math) and was now killing time by playing app games on her phone.
As she laid on her bed, phone above her head she heard a faint "Meow!". Sitting up, she saw Ashes; the tiny stray kitten she found three weeks ago. The gray kitten had wondered in, and was now trying to attempt climbing her bed. Rae chuckled, sitting up, "Hey Ashes, how did you squeeze through my door?" gently picking up the kitten, she laid back down. Ashes snuggled up against her neck, purring, "You a happy boy?" she scratched his head.
Sighing she looked up at her ceiling; her mother said she was busy all night, and would be home late again. When Rae asked if she was meeting her new boyfriend again. Elisa said no and that they were just friends! Though, her daughter was having a hard time believing it. Ever since her father walked out on them, her mother didn't have an interest in looking for love again. mainly because raising a kid on your own took a lot.
But just thinking about this gargoyle- Goliath guy was pissing her off. The talk she had with Vidia the other night was still in her head. This had nothing to do with her father, he was barley in her life to care! And yes, she was mad that her mother was now roped into supernatural beings, which could lead to further problems (like finding out her daughter was this powerful water-bending fairy) That felt like the root to her anger, but then...
"Why am I mad that she seeing someone...?" Rae muttered. Yes Elisa was only joking, saying she "had a date", teasing her daughter, but there was no way her mother would be into a mythical monster! "Right...?" why did seem like she was doubting herself?
"Rae, I'm heading out!" Elisa called through her daughter's bedroom door.
"K!" Rae replied back. Once she heard the front door shut, it was time. Gently setting the kitten down, before jumping off her bed, she made a fake body of her using her pillows, covering it with the blanket, "Sometimes I wish I could just make an astral-drop out of thin-air," she grumbled setting the sleepy kitty back on the bed. She took a quick glance at herself in the mirror; rubbing the wrinkles in her shirt, and blew her long bangs out of her eyes, they fell back down. She shrugged, "Eh, good enough. Let's get this train wreck over with." sarcastically snarking, and tella-transported out.
With ten minutes to spar Amalthea quickly walked down the hallways and into the great hall. She glared down at the grimorum, sealed behind it's glass case, opening it she picked it up and stuffed it in her backpack. Rushing out and heading to the tower, making it just in time to see her friends awaken.
The gargoyle's eyes glowed, their stone skin cracked, before shattering into dust, they stretched out their wings, roaring out into the night sky. Amalthea smiled, still awesome to watch. Brooklyn was the first to notice her, "Thea!" he smiled, as did the others, hopping down from their perch.
"Good evening guys!" Amalthea smile widened, walking up to them, "Well, you ready?"
"...Ready for what?" Broadway asked, raising his brow.
Amalthea chuckled, "I told you I had friends I want you to meet, and that I would tell you the full story of last night."
"Are they not coming to the castle?" Lexington asked.
Amalthea shook her head, "Its not safe for them to show themselves here, especially because they want to keep their identity's a secret."
Goliath nodded understanding, "That is understandable."
The teenager perked right back up, "We're meeting them in Central Park, I can show you the way. But I think it's best for now that Bronx stays here." the beast-gargoyle pouted, feeling left out.
"Another time." Hudson patted the beast's head.
Amalthea quickly hopped onto Brooklyn's back, everyone spread their wings. Goliath was the first to jump off the balcony, with his clan following behind.
The flight to the park was a little ways away, as they flew over the bright city, the younger gargoyles started to ask Amalthea questions, "So, how may friends are we meeting?" Brooklyn asked, looking over his shoulder.
"Four," Amalthea smiled, "And don't worry, they won't be scared of you. And before you ask, yes they are all girls, same age as me."
"Can they all... transform like you?" Lexington asked, trying to find a correct word.
Amalthea giggled, "Yes, but we all look slightly different when we transform."
"So, the neckless you always wear, that what makes you transform?" Broadway pointed to her pendent.
"Yep, it not only transforms me and my friends, but also opens portals to other worlds."
"Other worlds?" Goliath raised his brow, listening in.
"Don't worry! You will all see, I promise. Don't want to spoil the surprise." Amalthea winked. Finally reaching the park, the clan flew down slightly closer to the trees. Amalthea scanned down below, "They're over there." she pointed to a grass stop next to dense trees. The gargoyles dived down and landed, Amalthea hopped off her friend's back, "Guys were here!" she called out, but no one answered. Frowning she tried again, "Ok, can we skip the big surprise and go straight into introductions?"
"Thea! Don't ruin the surprise!" whined a female's voice, slightly higher then Amalthea's.
"Yeah we worked on it for months." came another, that was very sarcastic.
"Knock it off you two!" a third one shouted, before stepping out from the trees, revealing herself. Arms crossed, she narrowed her eyes on the gargoyles, for some reason they felt slightly intermitted by the young woman.
"Ugh, you guys are no fun!" the other two voices stepped out, both smiling at their joke. The last one, was still hiding, but they saw her peek out from behind the tree.
"It's ok, Naomi, you're safe!" Amalthea called, getting her friend to slowly come out.
The five gargoyles stared at the five girls, who stared back. Everyone was silent, till the girl with the sarcastic voice tilted her head saying, "I don't know what I was expecting."
Amalthea frowned, "Gee, that was polite Vidia!"
The girl shrugged, "What? Your new friends are not what I expected."
"Yeah, I gotta agree," the girl next to Vidia who played along, touched her finger to her chin, looking them up and down, "I was expecting them to be more... stony?" the gargoyles glanced at each other, the younger ones feeling a bit embarrassed, being the center of attention.
"Oh my God you guys..." Amalthea groaned, shaking her head. Clapping her hands together she smiled, "Ok, how about we go straight into introductions?" she turned to her human friends first, "Everyone, these are the gargoyles; Goliath, Hudson, Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington," then she turned to the gargoyles, "Guys, these are my best friends." looked over her shoulder, she motioned her eyes telling them to introduce themselves.
The girl who kept glaring at the largest gargoyle went first, "Rae Maza." her arms still crossed.
The gargoyles blinked, "Maza...?" Goliath muttered, why dose this young woman have-.
Rae gritted her teeth, "Yeah, its the same Maza you went out with the other night."
The clan looked in disbelief, then that means... Amalthea smiled, and walked next to her friend, "Rae is Elisa Maza's daughter."
The were all shocked, but now that they got a better look at Rea, she indeed looked like her mother, the only difference is that she had dep-blue eyes. Her short dark hair had a long sideswipe that covered her right-eye touching her chin, showing off a left eyebrow piercing, on top of her head was a navy-blue beanie. She wore a black nirvana t-shirt with the yellow smiley-face, underneath a gray long-sleeve shirt, it fit snugly against her form. But she wore baggy-ripped blue jeans that touched the ground, hiding her casual sport shoes.
Rae didn't let up her glare, which made Goliath feel slightly nervous, she was only focusing on him. Thankfully Lexington broke the silence, "But wait, Elisa never mentioned her having a daughter."
"Yeah, well she wasn't suppose to get involved in with you guys in the first place." Rae barked. Her demeanor was very different from Elisa, it was hard to believe they were related.
"Ok, easy there barracuda, you're scaring them," Vidia teased, leading her elbow on Rae's shoulder. She smiled at the gargoyles, "Name's Vidia Mitsuishi, nice to finally meet the famous gargoyles we've heard so much about~."
The Japanese girl next to Rae was the tallest out of the five girls and she had a more laid-back demeanor; her hazel eyes were half closed, but her black matted lipstick-lips was up in a smug smirk. Her long jet-black hair was tied into a high ponytail that touched her waist, with her straight bangs and layered hair out front. Sharp eyeliner on her almond shaped eyes, and deep purple eyeshadow, along with multiple ear piercings, and a nose ring. Her other hand was tucked into her blue Japanese varsity-jacket pocket, with a gold dragon on the back. It covered most of her black long-sleeve mesh crop-top. Her dark-jeans, showed off her blue ankle boots, that matched her jacket.
She turned and looked at Brooklyn with a smug grin, "I heard when Thea fell off from the building you swooped down to save her. Quite the hero~." the gargoyle blinked, before feeling red in the face.
Amalthea's face turned bright-red, "Vidia! Don't say it like that!" Vida only laughed, as Rae shrugged her off her shoulder.
"Ok I'm next!" the third girl rushed up, getting close to the gargoyles, "Emily O'Neil!"
She had a big smile on her face reaching her hand out for them to shake it. The gargoyles were a bit surprised to see her short, wavy bob-cut hair was a light pink color, that made her fair-skin and large-black glasses pop. Freckles covered all over her nose and cheeks, and she had the brightest blue eyes. Wearing a light yellow and white striped shirt and sun-bleached overall shorts. Her white shocks came up her calf's, showing off her colorful sneakers. With how lightly dressed she was, they were shocked that she wasn't cold.
Lexington slowly reached his hand out and took hers. She quickly brought her other hand in, and started shaking him up and down, "Soooo... how did you survive staying asleep for a thousand years? Did you have other abilities other then flying? Was King Arthur real?! I have so many questions!" Emily squealed, getting way too excided.
"Ok, ok Em, slow down, let them prosses first," Amalthea came to Lexington's recuse, pulling the hipper girl back. It took the gargoyle a while to stop shaking. Amalthea turned to the last girl, who was standing to the side, fiddling with her shirt. Amalthea smiled, walking over she took her hand, leading her closer to the group, "And this is Naomi Halder."
The Indian girl was much more timid and quiet, her green eyes stared to the ground. She was a bit curvier then the other girls, in an hourglass shape. She had the third longest hair, going to her chest, it was a deep dark-chocolate color, the ponytail band tied at the very bottom of her ends, making her hair look full, with a few lose strains covering her left ear. Her off-shoulder puffy sleeve blouse was bright peach pink, and her long ruffled skirt, had colorful green Indian pattern. She wore bracelets, and beaded sandals.
Working up the courage, she looked up and quietly spoke, "Umm... I-It's nice to meet you all."
"It is nice to meet you all as well." Goliath gave a friendly smiled.
"I know everyone has questions, but I think we shouldn't be the only ones to give you answers," Amalthea explain, the gargoyles raised their brows in confusion. Turning her back to them she pulled her necklace off her neck and held it out. It glowed bright, and then suddenly a light appeared in front of them, it split opened, hovering.
Smiling, Amalthea turned back, trying very hard to not giggle at Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington dropped jaws. Goliath and Hudson's eyes widened with amazement, "Fascinating."
"I was unaware that you knew witchcraft, lass." Hudson wasn't sure if he should be impressed or concerned.
Amalthea lightly giggled, "It's not witchcraft, but you're close."
The gargoyles watched in shock, as Vidia, Naomi and Rae went through first. Emily turned back to the younger gargoyles and smiled, "Come on! It's only freaky the first few times!" moving quickly she grabbed Lexington's hands pulled him with her.
Lexington's eyes widened, trying to dig his feet in the dirt, "Ah- wait wait wait-!" the gargoyle was cut short when she pulled him through.
Amalthea giggled, walking up to Brooklyn, who was also unsure. She reached out her hand and smiled, "Don't worry, I won't let you fall." using his promise he told her the other night.
Brooklyn snorted a laugh out. Trusting his friend, he took her hand, letting her guide him through the portal. Hudson went next, with Broadway following the elder, leaving Goliath last. Slowly walking up, he took one last look at the city, before stepping through.
The gargoyles squinted their eyes, walking through the portal, it only lasted for a few seconds, like walking through an open door. But the other side, was other worldly. The clan stopped and gazed in awe at the sight that greeted them. It was still night, the moon was full with colorful solar systems visible to the naked eye. they stood at the entrance to a large city, medieval houses of white, blue and brown, stood tall. Clean dirt-roads, with river canals under a stone bridge. Lanterns lit up the streets, as night merchants and pubs opened for the early evening. And in the far off distance, up upon a crooked stone mountain covered in green, and waterfalls, was a tall regal white castle.
"What is this mysterious land?" Hudson asked.
Amalthea smiled, "Welcome to Meridian." the five girls started to walk ahead, with the clan quickly snapping out and following close behind.
As the group walked through the city, the gargoyles took notice of the Meridian's citizens, most looked human, while other were mythical creatures, some not looking too different form the Earth gargoyles. Their eyes wondered all around, seeing creatures like them, living and working along side humans, who were unafraid of them. But their gazing turned sour, when then saw everyone looking at them, whispering.
"It seems that no matter where we go, we are shunned," Goliath frowned.
"Who said they were gossiping about you?" Vida turned back, smirking.
Suddenly the heard, "It's the guardians!" a group of young children came racing towards the five teenagers. The gargoyles blinked, surprised that they were ignored by the children.
"Yeah~ we're kind of a big deal here." Vida bragged, before getting a punched in the arm by Rae, who pushed onward to the castle.
"Please do magic!" one little girl asked, before the other children begged, "please, please, pleeeeease!"
Naomi smiled, kneeling down in front of the girl, she held out her palm and grew a pink rose. Placing it in the girl's hair.
Vida smirked, crossing her her index and middle fingers together, she sparked flames, before shooting them up in the sky exploding like fireworks of gold. The children cheered, dancing around the gold flakes.
"Wow.." Broadway gasped, as he and his rookery brothers watch the girls do magic. Brooklyn took a glance at Amalthea, he already witness her power, now he wondered what the others could do?
"We're guardians, not a circus." Rae frowned, being serious like always. She waited for the others to catch up, as they waved goodbye to the kids.
"Oh, like you don't like showing off a little~." Emily teased, nudging past Rae.
Once at the entrance to the castle, they were greeted by the giant mythical creatures, that were just as tall and intimidating as Goliath. Spears and shields in hand, they guarded the gates, "Welcome guardians!" they bellowed out, bowing in respect, "The queen is expecting you!" they glanced behind the girls, taking notice of the clan.
"It's ok, they're with us." Amalthea smiled. Nodding in agreement, the guards opened the gates, allowing entrance.
The castle was much more regal and fantasy like then the gargoyle's home; the walls were white, with gold rococo around the pillars. A thousand stain-glass windows with red currents, the floor a shiny porcelain. Painting, statues, even water fountains decorated all around. They didn't have time to admire, "This way guys." Emily called the trailing gargoyles behind them.
Two more guards, stood in front of the throne room. Opening the doors, the guardians lead the gargoyles in. Walking down the red carpet, and up a few stairs to the second level, where five throne chairs sat. The two of the right were empty, where the two of the left, sat King Bastian and Queen Fallon.
The man's robes were a dark midnight-blue and black, that touched the ground with gold trims. His long hair, and beard were a deep brown, and he wore a bizarre blue crown that went down the scalp of his head. Eyes a faded blue, skin fair, but on the sides of his jaw line were two green marks.
On his right side, his queen. The woman's skin was much paler then her husband, with long black hair tied in a large braid going over her shoulder, and shinny green eyes. Her long sleeve gown was a shimmery white with layered mesh, coral-pink fabric, and puffy shoulders.
In the center of the four thrones, on a slightly higher level, an elderly woman stood tall. Her face covered in wrinkles, and her long gray hair, tied in two braids with hoops in them, Wearing an arctic-blue rode with a large collar behind her head. And resting on her forehead, a gold crown with a single ruby.
The five guardians leaned forwarded and bowed, "Your majesty."
The elder queen smiled, raising her hand, "No need to be so formal, Amalthea," the five girls quickly stood back up, "it is good to see you are all well." Elyon turned her attention to the gargoyles behind.
Amalthea blinked, "Oh- yes," The girls moved to the side, Amalthea motioned her hand out, offering Goliath to take the lead.
Acting formal, the tall gargoyle wrapped his wings around her shoulder, walked up and bowed, "My name is Goliath, of Wyvern Clan. It is an honor to meet with you." his clan followed his lead, tucking their wings inside.
Queen Elyon nodded, "The girls have told me little about your kind. I must say, it is rather unusual to learn that mythical creatures lived thousands of years ago along side humans," the woman took notices of the sudden shift in their demeanor, "I am sorry for you tremendous lose, but do know, you are welcomed here in Meridian."
The clan blinked in shock, they've only just met and now, "R-Really?" Hudson stuttered in bewilderment, "B-But you-"
Elyon smiled, "Amalthea has told me how you defended her under attack, you have honor and loyalty. And if the heart of Kandrakar trusts you," she took a quick glance at Amalthea who turned to the side blushing, knowing that she was reading her thoughts, "You are more then just an ally."
The gargoyles suddenly felt this warmth in their chest, something that they had know idea they craved for their hole lives; to be equals. Hudson had to turn away, trying not to show emotion, "Thank you, your majesty," Goliath bowed again, "You kind words bring us peace."
Elyon lightly chuckled, "Do not feel obligated to be so formal all the time." she reassured them.
"Ahem!" Rae loudly cleared her throat, getting everyone's attention, "Not to sound rude, but we didn't just come for a meet and greet."
"Ah yes," King Bastian nodded, standing from his throne, along with his wife, "The council are awaiting for us in the great hall."
As the royal family lead the group out the throne room, Emily started looking around, before walking closer to Queen Fallon, "So- uhhh... Where are the Prince and Princess?" she smiled sheepishly.
Queen Fallon smiled, "Fast asleep I'm afraid." she then turned and smiled at Amalthea, "It's too bad, Lake would have been so happy to see you, Amalthea."
Amalthea smiled and shrugged, "Well, there's always next time."
The guards opened the great hall doors, and in the center of the room was a group of humans and creatures waiting for them. Amalthea's smile widened when she saw a familiar face; an old woman, around the same age as Queen Elyon, wearing a council of Kanrakar rode. Her skin was slightly pale, with wrinkles, but her eyes were a bright amber, and her short sliver hair shined.
"Will!" Amalthea cried, running over.
The old woman chuckled, as her apprentice rushed over to stand before her, "How are you, Thea?"
"Good!" Amalthea exclaimed, before re-thinking that, "Well I mean- things are good, sort of..." she rubbed the back of her head, blushing from being too excited, "I just..."
Will hushed her, "You have questions, and we will get to them. But first," she walked around her and greeted the gargoyles, "Greetings, on behave of myself and the council, we welcome you, gargoyles."
Naomi looked around the group, "Where is Hay Lin?"
Will pity smiled, "Someone has to watch the auramerse. But she will be happy to know she was missed." once everyone had interduce themselves it was time to get working, "We heard about the portals opening, the shadows..." Will turned to Amalthea, "Were you..?"
"Totally handled!" Vidia cut in, "All thanks miss Spectrum." she pointed her thumb at Amalthea.
"You should have seen it, your highness!" Emily exclaimed, shaking Amalthea by the shoulders form behind, her eyes sparkled, "She was like a superhero. At the break of defeat she channeled her power and went BOOM! Lighting stuck the sky!"
Everyone's eyes widened, especially the gargoyles, that's when they remembered the giant lightning bolt.
"Wait, Thea, that was you?!" Brooklyn gapped, making the girl blush.
"Uh... yeah, I guess?" the teenager looked down at her hands, "I've never felt such an surge of power before." squeezing them into fits, she turned to Will, "I was wondering, maybe you might know."
Her mentor crossed her arms, humming in though, "Since the veil has been brought down, long before you five of you were born, you all never had a withhold on all you abilities." looked back at Amalthea, "If it helps, we can do some practice training at Kanrakar?" Amalthea smiled brightly, nodding.
"In the mean time, I wish to know more about the sudden attack the other night on earth." Queen Elyon spoke up.
As the group were discussing the events, Emily, leaned against the wall in the back. Yawning out, when she suddenly spotted a glowing butterfly from the window, it flew above the group who didn't noticed. It fluttered right in front of her face, tickling her nose, Emily giggled and watched it fly around the corner, calling her to follow. With a sly smirk, she turned invisible and left the great hall.
While the guardians were discussing what happened the pervious night to the royal family and the council, the gargoyles took a back seat. They were still trying to comprehend everything they saw just a few hours ago. They knew magic existed from the Magus, but another world? No, multiple different worlds all around the universe. It was like waking up from their stone curse all over again, nothing made sense, and if Amalthea wasn't apart of this world, then they likely would have never known it's existence.
The gargoyles listened in to the conversation, they started to wonder if they should be apart of the conversation? Yes, they now knew of Amalthea and her friend's secret life, and the importance of keeping it a secret, but it felt like they were on a different level the gargoyles ever were. They were so use to being the strong ones, beings that weald great strength and abilities no human can posses, but the girls were not normal humans. Would they... even be able to help them?
"This is the first time in five years where an enemy was able to open a portal to Earth," Amalthea frowned, crossing her arms, looking at the ground.
"These shadow monsters had been a pain to get rid of for weeks." Rae added, narrowing her eyes, "The night of the attack they changed their form."
"Changed their form?" King Bastian raised her brow.
"They combined themselves together, making this singular mass." Vida explained.
"It was so powerful we couldn't pernitrate it." Naomi looked with worry in her eyes, "It swallowed Thea, and tried to take her life-force."
The gargoyles gasped in shock, "Wait, Thea, you were attack?!" Brooklyn voiced concerned.
Amalthea raised her hands, "Y-Yes, but it's fine. I'm fine now." she smiled, tried to reassure her friends.
"It's not fine!" Rae's harsh voice bellowed. Everyone turned to look at the teen, her arms crossed. She turned to her best friend with a serious look in her eyes, "You were almost killed, Thea, we had no way of reaching you."
Amalthea frowned, understanding her friends concern, "I'm aware of that Rae, but you did reach me. You pulled me out of there-."
"Barley!" her voice slightly raised, she then turned her focus to the queen, "These things weren't out to attack random citizens, they were after us! They wanted our power!" now that she said it out-loud, it started to make more sense. The monster were aggressive like feral-animals, laser-focus on the guardians, but they also had intelligent, able to retreat when needed, and even ambush them. Vida crossed her arms, looking just as serious, while Naomi's grasped her hands together, looking worried.
"Your majesty?" Amalthea broke the silence, the elder queen looked at the leader, "Being the heart of Meridian, you and your family are able to create. But once told us of a former guardian that used Quintessence to bring monsters to life. Is it possible..."
"That there is someone out there creating monsters?" Elyon finished her sentence. There was an uncomfortable silence through the great hall.
"That's... not the only thing I wanted to talk to you about," Amalthea spoke up. Reaching behind her in the backpack she pulled out the grimorum. Goliath's eyes widened, his body shifted ever so slightly.
"Lass, you took it?" Hudson asked in shock, knowing what kind of power it held.
Amalthea frowned at the book in her hands, "This book, was wheeled by the Magus that lived in Wyvern castle, it has the curse that turned the gargoyles into stone for a thousand years." lifting it up, she handed it to Queen Elyon, "From what I've read, it seems to hold scription power, meaning... anyone can use it."
The council and royal family's eyes widened, Elyon took the book, and skimmed through the pages, reading the spells in her mind. Even with her fast power, she could sense the power in the ancient book. Sighing, she closed it, "This could be very dangerous, in the wrong hands..."
Outside in the castle garden, a lone figure stood tall under the moon-light. the mystical flowers that were planted all over shined of gold and blue. His royal robe were the colors of fire, touching the grass, with his long white hair tied in a brain. A black crown rested on his forehead, with a single sapphire in the middle. He opened his faded-blue eyes, when the glowing butterfly returned. Smiling, he could sense someone behind him, taking a deep breath in.
"Don't even think about it." he smirked, not turning around.
Emily halted, releasing all her air into a raspberry, "You're no fun!"
"Ouch, I can be plenty of fu-" He was cut off when he turned to face her, she threw her arms around his neck, hugging him close. He chuckled again, embracing her, "I've missed you."
"Same," Emily barring herself in his shoulder, before gently pulling back to look at his face, "I wish you would visit me, you can teleport yourself to Earth you know, Jasper~."
The young prince lightly chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck, "I-I do want to visit you! It's just... unlike grandma, I am unfamiliar with your world." his cheeks burned pink.
Emily smirked, leaning closer to his face, "Well~ I could always give you a private tour~" her flirtation always made the prince bashful.
"St-stop that!" Jasper tried to look away, as Emily laughed at his red face.
"Sorry," giving him a little kiss on the cheek, "Do you want to come meet the strange creatures from Earth?"
Jasper took a glance back at the castle, before looking down at the guardian. He wrapped his hand around hers, "Not yet, I... wish to spend a little more time with you." kissing her hands.
Emily's face blushed, "Ok, your highness~."
After the long explanations on the battle and mysterious spellbook, everyone thought it would be good to take a short recess. Queen Elyon and the council wanted to know more of the gargoyles. As the elders stayed to talked with Goliath and Hudsun. The four guardians lead the younger gargoyles through the castle.
"This is a none-judgmental place, you two have the freedom to speak, and tell as much as you want." Elyon reassured them, "But, from what Amalthea has shown, this book, can be very destructive. We need to know who the Magus was, and what happened that night."
Hudson looked to his old friend, who was in deep thought. Goliath knew, that if Amalthea trusted them, they had nothing to worry about. But, he already tried to trust another human, and history almost repeated itself. But, if they were to get anywhere, they needed to give them a chance. Amalthea wouldn't bring them here, if it wasn't for a good reason.
Taking a deep breath, Goliath spoke, "The Magus was the court magician of Castle Wyvern and the princess's top advisor. On that night, we were ambushed; the Vikings destroyed our clan, and captured the royal family. We tracked them down, to save the humans. In a misunderstanding, the Magus thought we failed to protect the princess, in blind rage he cursed us, to be stone during the night." Hudson looked to the side, their lose still hurt, "In the book, it said the spell would only be broken when castle reached the clouds."
"He attack you under a blind rage," King Bastian tsked, crossing his arms, "Such a dishonor to wheeled such power." Queen Fallon, placed a gentle hand on her husband's shoulder, easing his anger.
"And, Amalthea's father... broke the curse?" Elyon raised her brow, getting a nod from the two gargoyles. Humming in thought, she looked down at the grimorum, "This book, in itself is a relic, that allows humans to wheel magic. Of course I cannot forcefully take at. It is already tied to you," lifted her hands, she held it in front of Goliath, "It all demands on how you use it."
Goliath started down at the grimorum. Truthfully, he didn't want anything to do with it, that maybe it would be better if it burned to ashes. But... besides their castle home, it was the last piece of their past. Slowly, he took the book back, "I swear, it shall never fall into the wrong hands."
While the grown-ups talked, the guardians gave the younger gargoyles a little tour around the castle.
"Hey, where did Emily go?" Lexington looked around, now seeing that they were missing one.
Vida smirked, crossing her arms behind her head, "Oh, probably with her prince charming~." Naomi giggle a little, while Rae rolled her eyes, never into romance.
"Prince charming?" Broadway asked.
"Emily is in a relationship with queen Elyon's grandson." Amalthea explained, "she also has a-"
"THEEEEAAA!" suddenly a blur of purple ran in front of the group and tackled into Amalthea, spinning her around.
Amalthea grunted, but smiled, "It's good to see you too, Lake." hugging the little girl back, "Aren't you suppose to be in bed?"
The little princess rubbed her face in Amalthea's shirt, her chest-long black hair all in a frizz, and her tiny silver crown was lop-sided. Her green eyes looked up at the teen, her cheeks red, wearing a big smile, showing off her gap teeth, "I've missed you! You never come visit anymore!"
"I'm sorry, I've been really busy." patting her girl on the head.
"It's great to see you all too!" Lake turned and looked at the four other guardians, who smiled and waved, before noticing the three gargoyles. Suddenly feeling shy, she tucked behind the leader.
Smiling, Amalthea moved from the girl's hiding spot, "Guys, I'd like you to meet, Princess Lake, granddaughter to Queen Elyon." looking back down at the princess, she explained, "These are my friends from Earth."
The six year-old looked up at the guardian. Seeing that it was safe, she took a step forward, lifting her purple and silver dress, she curtsy, "A-A pleasure to meet you gar-gargoyles." trying to pronouns the name.
The three gargoyles smiled, "It's nice to meet you too, you majesty." Broadway did a slight bow, making the little princess giggle.
"Wow, quite the charmer?" Vida teased, leaning close to the gargoyles' side.
"We're use to royalty." Lexington explained.
"Thea told us you were like guards to the royal family in your castle?" Naomi asked, slowly feeling a bit more confident with their new friends.
Lexington nodded, "We fought Vikings during our time."
"Woah, that's badass." Vida crossed her arms.
"Badass?" Brooklyn asked, was that another slag.
"It's kinda the same as cool, but, well..." Amalthea tried to explain without laughing.
"It means you're super cool!" Lake shouted out, smiling big.
"Where did you learn that?" Rae raised her brow, smirking a little.
"From the romance manga Emily gave me!" the little princess said, making the teenagers burst into laugher.
"Just don't say it around your parents." Amalthea told her.
After introductions, the groups kept walking down the halls, with the added princess. As they chatted, Brooklyn kept looking at the famed portraits and statues all along the walls, till he found himself wondering off around a different corner.
There, he saw a portrait of five teenage girls, in their guardian form, fighting what looked like a male version of Queen Elyon. Brooklyn was entrance, the girl with red-hair looked very much like the woman Amalthea was talking with, could this have been her and her team? He though back to last night, Amalthea's guardian form, and her power to defend him when he was under attack, "Is this... what they do?" he muttered to himself.
Suddenly, a strong smell of something putrid; like a rotting fish, entered the hall. Quickly covering his nostrils and peak, trying not to vomit, he forced to keep his eyes opened as the smell came behind a pillar, and outstepped an unusual creature. It was snort, only coming up to his knees, it's skin was a sickly green with big age-spots on it's arms, hands, feet and bald head. Clothes were old and tattered, wearing no shoes but carried a short cane. The creature looked up with it's yellow eyes and pulled at it's beard.
"Hmm, yes, you new friends of new guardians?" he smiled, showing missing teeth.
"U-Uh yes?" Brooklyn answered, trying very hard not to gag.
"Blunk has something... something to help," digging into his pouch on his waste he pulled out an ancient artifact, "Tooth of the Tonga; can open portals... travel through the universes..." he lifted his shaken hand out, offering the gargoyle to take it.
Brooklyn was hesitant at first, but took it. He stared down in awe at the fossilized tooth, with a ruby and chain, "Why are you giving me this?"
Blunk chuckled, "Blank's fighting days are long behind... wish to spend last years with passling-grandbabies..." he steadily turned and looked at the frame painting. A frown then formed on his face, "Ever since ambush... Things have taken dark turn. Promise Blunk, that you will look after new guardians?" he turned back, with a serious look in his eyes.
Ambushed? Brooklyn raised his brow, what ambushed? And what did the creature mean by "taken a dark turn"? But just as the gargoyle was about to ask, horns blared through the halls of the castle. Startling everyone.
"Guardians!" a guard ran down the hall, "monster's, about three dozens! At the entrance to the city!" Everyone's eyes widened, did they just hear correctly? An attack on the castle?! Brooklyn quickly hurried back to the group, unaware of the relic he was still clutching, "They are followers of Phobos."
"What?!" Naomi gasped, eyes wide with worry.
Rae glared, "Don't those losers know when to quit?!"
Amalthea narrowed her eyes, she glanced at her friends, all nodding, "Locate Emily and tell her to meet us at the gates!" she ordered the guard, all the while the three gargoyles froze, unsure of what to do. Should they help? Before they could ask what to do, the four teenagers ran towards the gate, leaving the three gargoyles and little princess behind.
"Wait- Thea!-" Brooklyn called, as he and his rookery brothers ran after them.
The four girls, stood at the entrance of the castle, Emily ran towards them, followed by Prince Jasper, "Sorry I'm late," she panted, taking a stand next to Naomi. the royal family watched at the entrance, as the gargoyles ran out after the girls. Off in the distance they could see a large dark mass.
"What should we do?" Brooklyn asked, looking between Goliath and Amalthea, unsure of who is in charge.
"We can handle this," Rae frowned, glaring daggers ahead.
Amalthea grasped the pendent in her hand, and held it up, "Guardians Unit!" The glow of the heart shined a blinding purple, as it formed around the five girls. The gargoyles watched back in shock, as they took form. Amalthea was right when she said they all had different transformations, each one engulfed in a ball of their elements. A purple ora surrounded Amalthea, sparkles like starts circled around her, as her clothes changed, and her wings sprouted from her back, "Quintessence!"
Rae broke free from her water cocoon; her crop-top was blue, the sleeves barley passed her shoulders, and were curved in like thorns. The bottom of the top curled down on the right side of her navel, while the short pink high-low skirt curled up on the left side, flowing in the back like a wave. Same tights, with baggy ankle boots. Lifting her hands, eyes shined a deep blue, "Water!"
Vida's fireball exploded like a firework, throwing her long hair back; her pink top only had one long sleeve on her left, with a wide wrist, not nearly as big as Amalthea's. Her long, flowy blue skirt had a single slit on her right side, with the waist curling up to her navel. Knee-high purple boots with flames carved on. Blue flames lit from the tips of her fingers as she crossed them together, "Fire!"
Emily spinned around, her little tornado blowing in all directions; her blue short-cloak with a hood, came down to her waste, and matching blue one-finger wrist gloves. Knee-length pink pants, with slits on the ends, and calf-high laced up boots. Throwing her arms above her head, she smiled, "Air!"
Lastly, Naomi's green bud bloomed into a flower; her clothing changed into a pink saree, with a blue pallu draped over her left shoulder. The blue fabric had pink leaves embroidered on the ends. While she did have the same tights, her feet were left bare, in order to feel the earth form under her. Throwing her long hair back, she kneeled down, arms out, "Earth!"
The light dimmed down, once the girls were fully transformed, the gargoyles gasped at the sight. Jasper only focused on Emily, his eyes shined, while Lake jumped up and down with excitement.
But just before they were about to fly, Goliath spoke up, "Wait, How can we help?"
"Don't worry, we got this guys!" Emily smiled back, giving thumbs up. Spreading her wings, she shot up to the sky like a rocket.
"You guys just sit there, and look pretty." Vidia winked, following close behind the air elemental.
Rae and Naomi quickly followed, Amalthea turned back to the gargoyles. She knew they wanted to help, but she also didn't want them to get hurt. Thinking fast she suggested, "Help get the civilians to safety!" before spreading her wings and flying after her team.
The gargoyles watched in awe, as the five teenagers flew like fairies towards the village.
"Will they be ok?" Brooklyn asked, looking worried. The royal family and the council stood by the clan.
Queen Elyon smiled up at the midnight sky, "It is their destiny."
At the edge of the village, the five guardians hovered in the air, standing their ground as the enemy got closer and closer. The monster army with rotting skin and soulless eyes, stopped ten feet away from the flying guardians, "Hear us, guardians!" shouted one, who seemed to be in charge, "this land belongs to King Phobos!"
"Who has been dead for over half a century!" Rae snarked back.
"His royal blood stains the castle walls! It is our right to the fester in Meridian, as it was all those years ago!" the monster went on.
"Ew." Emily wrinkled her nose.
Amalthea flew forward, eyes narrowed, "This kingdom has been under the rule by Queen Elyon, and is under the protection the guardians. I warn you, do not step any further. We will show no mercy." her four friends glanced at her, when ever she used the term, 'no mercy', they knew it was gonna get serious.
"Our blood will stain your hands!" the monster army hollered and growled, not backing down. The guardians did not waver by their threat.
"All right," Vidia cracked her necked, blue fireball ready in hand, "You ready to lose another fight?"
With no fear, the monsters charged, some going toward the guardians while others planned to power-through the village. Vida threw down her fireball as it exploded, monsters was through in the air. Naomi grounded her feet in the dirt, leaning down to touch the earth, before shooting up high. Large venus-fly-traps sprouted up, they snapped down, catching monsters in their mouths.
The monsters threw their spears in the air, trying to bring the guardians down, "WOAH!" Emily quickly dodged, glaring down, "Rude!" flying higher in air, she started to spin around the battle field, the monsters tried to give their feet into the ground, as the large gust of wind sent their weapons flying.
inside the city, the gargoyles rushed toward the soldiers, who were gathering citizens to safety, "We are here to help." Goliath offered.
The beast took a quick glance at the clan, and nodded, "Perfect, we need all the help we can get! Start scanning through alleyways, make sure everyone finds a partner!"
"You three, stick together!" Goliath ordered the younger ones. Nodded, Brooklyn, Broadway and Lexington ran down the street, checking every corner.
"Over there!" Broadway pointed to a group of children, hiding under a kart. This rookery bother's quickly following him.
"It's ok, we're here to help." Brooklyn smiled down, to their surprise, the children weren't scared of them. Understanding it was safe, one by one, they stepped out.
As Broadway lifted a little girl up in his arms, she turned and looked over his shoulder, "Look! It's the guardians!" she smiled, getting everyone's attention. The three gargoyles turned, as they were met with an incredible battle. It felt like they were back in time, watching the guardians fight these monsters. Brooklyn's eyes stayed on Amalthea, her back was turned to him, lightning shot from her hands, as her long hair flowed behind her. It was just as incredible as the first time.
Lexington's shouting, snapped him out, "Brooklyn, let's go!" they rushed the kids to safety.
This fight couldn't last forever, for daylight would soon it, Amalthea needed to get the gargoyles home. Good thing small armies end fast in battle, something you'd think the monsters would have realized by now. Rae flew next to Amalthea, "Let's finish this!" her friend nodded in agreement. lifting both her forearms up, a current of water raised behind the guardians. The monsters looked in terror, as a tsunami came crashing down on them.
Amalthea slapped her hands together, sparks ignited. Glaring at the monsters doused in water, she made a triangle, "Quintessence!" the lighting bolt shot out, and electrocuted the army. There bodies seized up, flesh burning, once the shock was gone, one by one, the monsters fell to the ground, twitching in agony. Some that were still standing started to retreat, leaving their fallen comrades for dead.
Vida, Emily and Naomi, flew over to their friends, "Yeah that's right! Run!" Vidia taunted, while Emily blew a raspberry. This battle was finished, the guardians landed their feet on the ground.
"Do not... think you have won yet..." Amalthea turned to see their leader struggled to stand. It's dead eyes glared only at her. Leaning against it's spear, slowing hobbling towards her, "The fallen... will rise once again!"
Amalthea felt her body go cold; her eyes wide with fear, inhaling sharp. That threat... it was almost the same from her nightmare. Her mind pledged her with images of the giant zombies and the creature covered in tar. She could only hear her heart beat, not paying attention to the monster trying to attack her.
Suddenly, Rae stood in front of her friend, shielding, glaring down at the monster, "Not, today." with her arm covered in water, she slapped the monster in the air, landing in one of Naomi's venus-fly-traps mouth. It's jaw snapped shut and swallowed.
Amalthea was still frozen from shock, unable to hear anything but white noise. Till the loud sounds of the city cheering, snapped her out. the teenager turned back, seeing a crowed of people, smiling and clapping. She felt Emily quickly rush to her side, giving her a hug, "We did it!" her friends joining her side, all tied, but cheery. Finally giving her a chance to relax, Amalthea smiled, and leaned into the hug. The gargoyles stood by the citizens, watching the friend group-hug.
"Wow..." Lexington gasped out, "that was..."
"Extraordinary." Goliath smiled. They were extraordinary.
"This is now the third time in our lives that followers of Phobos have tried to attack." everyone had gathered back inside the throne room. Queen Elyon and her family sat on their thrones. Amalthea stood in front of her team and gargoyles, the council standing by the side. Narrowing her eyes at the queen, she went on, "But they've been attacking longer then this, and while numbers have decreased significantly over the years, their strong belief seems to keep them going.
Queen Elyon nodded in agreement, Amalthea was right, it was much worst the first few years of her brother's death, and even more so after W.I.T.C.H. While the attacks weren't as offend as they use to be, it was a condition that should not be overlooked.
"Before the end, their leader said something... interesting." Amalthea spoke up again.
"Yes, Amalthea?" the queen asked, suddenly weary of what the guardian would say.
Amalthea squeezed her hands tights, shaking ever so slightly. This was her chance to tell her, the nightmare - or - the vision she had, it had to mean something right? Why else did that monster say "the fallen will rise"? Or... was it just a horrible coincidence? But then... the shadow monsters. Were they somehow connected to all of this?
Taking a deep breath, the guardian repeated it's warning, "The fallen... with rise once again."
The king and queen gasped with shock, along with the council. Queen Elyon narrowed her eyes. That wasn't like a threat, it was a warning, "Mother," King Bastian turned to the elder queen, "do you think...?"
Exhaling from exhaustion, Elyon stood up from her throne, "There are still unanswered questions, but for now, I think it's best that you rest. You all have done more then enough. I am thankful for all you have done to protect my people." she gave a kind smile to the girls, then made eye contact with the gargoyles, "You also have my thanks, and are always welcomed here." Goliath bowed in respect, thank the elder woman, "Now, if I'm not mistaken, it is probably and school night?" she smirked raising her bow. The groaning from the teenager's made her chuckle, "I suggest, that you try and get what little bit of rest you have left."
"Won't argue with that, you majesty." Vida lightly chuckled, more in pain though.
Amalthea turned around and opened a portal to Earth. As her friends lead the gargoyles through, she took one last look to Will, and smiled, "We'll keep in touch." her mentor promised. She nodded in agreement, before stepping through the portal.
The dark night sky was starting to take color, when the portal opened in central park. The five teenage girls stepped through next, with Emily and Amalthea helping Brooklyn and Lexington through. The gargoyles felt distorted walking through the portal again. "Uuuh, that's going to take some time to get use to..." Broadway groaned, feeling queasy.
"Well, this night lasted longer then it needed to be." Vida groaned out, stretching her arms over her head.
Naomi let out a tired yawn, "Hopefully we can get a few hours of rest before school." remined of the next school day made the teenagers groan in dread.
"I'm gonna be falling asleep in class, I just know it." Amalthea sighed.
"Hey, at least it wasn't boring!" Emily shrugged, "Now that we've got new members of R.A.V.E.N." she smiled, nudging Lexington with her elbow.
"Raven?" Brooklyn asked, turning to Amalthea.
"It's our team name we came up with. All our first initials make up the word raven." she explained.
"It's was Naomi's idea." Vida smirked at the Indian girl, who's faced turned bright red.
"W-Well- um, I-I just thought it was coincidental that our initials made a word! A-And Hay Lin told us that their guardian name was W.I.T.C.H. so..." she rambled on.
"Now that the team has grown, we need to figure out where to hang." Vida smiled.
"Oooh yeah! You guys have to try out videogames, and go to movies, raves!" Emily squealed, jumping up and down with excitement.
"Video-what?" Brooklyn turned to Amalthea for help, who giggled.
"Don't worry, it will be your next learning experience."
While the group chatted, Rae found herself in the back, and was now uncomfortably walking beside Goliath. She kept taking glances at him, unsure of what to do or say. At the beginning, she was everything but thrilled with the new creatures living with Amalthea. And she was even less thrilled when she suddenly learned her mom discovered them. It was like a perfect storm. She still wasn't a fan of them, even after they were welcomed in Meridian and her friends already growing attached to them, she still kept her guard up.
But as she walked in silence next to the large beast, she tried to level with herself. She knew, that she had a hard time opening up to others; it was hard taking the role as guardian with three other girls from her school that she didn't know very well at the time, it was hard excepting that the heart chose her and that this was her destiny. It was hard... to trust these creatures, that Amalthea already had faith in...
I'll never be able to move past unless I get it off my chest, Rae frowned. Finally breaking the silence she spoke out, "You can't tell her any of this." Goliath halted, turning to look and the teen, who kept her eyes forward, "She already knows about your kind, what's done is done. But everything you've seen tonight... even me of knowing your existence, has to be kept between us."
Goliath stayed silent, as the teen continued, "If she hasn't told me now, odds are she never will. And I don't expect her to ask Thea to tell me the truth, because she already knows how to keep a secret." she referred to her father who was now behind bars. "The existence of our true identities, could be a threat to our families and our home." finally turning her head, she stared the gargoyle in the eye, "You have to promise me, no matter if she asks, or interrogates you, our... acquaintance, never happened."
There was a long silence between the two, nether one broke eye contact. Throughout his life, Goliath trusted two other humans, who withheld the truth, and backstabbed him, costing his clan and their home. But with Elisa, it was different, she was good person and had already risked her life to save his. Something that has never been shown between the two species. He felt agitated, going against his moral of loyalty and honesty. But after meeting her daughter, and everything that happened tonight, he knew she was right. And while he didn't like the idea of lying to his new human friend, he knew, it was for her safety.
"You have my word, Rae." he nodded his head.
Finally, after all night of being on edge, Rae's shoulders relaxed slightly, and her glare lessened. She still wasn't happy that her mom got mixed up in all of this, and all she really could do now was pray that her secret would be kept safe, "Thank you, Goliath." finally saying his name. The gargoyle smiled a little, but Rae didn't return it, she was not yet and that level of friendliness. Giving him a slight nod, she hurried over to Amalthea, joining her friends.
Goliath smiled, watching the group of eight, talking and laughing together, already friends. Just when he thought he was beginning to understand this new Earth, he travels to a different one. The future was unknow, and from one night, it seemed to be filled with danger. Amalthea and her friends faced a new enemy, but no matter what happens, he promised that they would stand by their side.
