The pain in her chest had returned.
It hadn't been as noticeable in the beginning, Kagome being too distracted by the beast's departure, but as the days got warmer, the pain seemed to get worse.
She didn't think anything of it—it was something she'd always lived with—but when her powers started to become affected, Kagome knew something was wrong.
Kagura didn't say anything as she wrapped a bandage around her sister's arm. It should've been a routine hunt, but the boar youkai had turned at the last moment, charging Kagome and smashing through her barrier.
Something that had never happened before.
She'd dived out of the way, Kagura taking the opportunity to attack from behind, but the boar's tusk had caught Kagome's arm, leaving her with a large gouge and wounded pride.
"It's not as bad as it looks," Kagura said, tying off the bandage.
"My barrier broke," Kagome retorted, yanking her arm away, instantly regretting the sharp movement as pain shot through her.
"It's probably just from lack of sleep. You should—"
Kagome tuned the rest of her words out, rubbing her chest as she gazed out the window. She'd known her power was acting up but had gone hunting anyway. She'd thought she could counter it with her weapons, but her reactions had been slowed due to the lack of reiki coursing through her.
If it had been Kagura who'd gotten hurt, she never would've forgiven herself.
