The dreams got worse, though that wasn't the right word for it, considering what happened within them.
The location had never been clear, Kagome's eyes always focusing on the hand around hers, the twitch at his lips. They were constantly moving, the leisurely pace akin to a lover's stroll, but they never reached their destination—if there was one.
The ground began to take shape, lush grass giving way to an assortment of plant life Kagome had only read about in her mother's scrolls. The colours made her dizzy, her free hand grasping for purchase, and an arm wrapped around her waist, keeping her from toppling over.
The cool shade of ivory was welcoming, the scent of pine more so, and she let herself relax, arms wrapping around him as she tucked her head under his chin. Claws brushed the nape of her neck before running through her hair, and Kagome breathed a sigh of relief.
They stayed like that, neither finding any reason to move, the sounds around them muted even as a breeze encircled them, tangling their hair together. She would've laughed, but the overall feeling of contentment caused her energy to wane, and she leaned against him for support.
A soft chuckle ruffled her bangs before he pushed her hair out of her face, head lowering to the crook of her neck, and as the first rays of sunshine pulled her out of the dreamscape, she felt his mouth move against her skin.
"Mate."
