Kagura was the most vocal, always serving her first and giving her the larger portion, even if most of it was left on her plate. As brash as her sister was, her patience knew no bounds, staying at the table much longer than needed, never making Kagome's measly bites feel rushed.

Kagura and Emiko had stared at Kagome in shock when she'd not only finished her plate one morning but asked for seconds, Kagura giving her an encouraging smile before quickly handing over more rice. It had been slow goings, nausea clawing at her insides, but she'd managed to keep everything down, focusing on the strength she knew it would give her.

The fresh air helped too.

Kagura had made her wait a few days before they'd gone hunting, but she'd been eager nonetheless, happy that her sister was showing improvement, a willingness to try.

"Should we start with something small?" Kagura asked, falling back in step with her.

"Probably a good idea. None of the larger game will be out right now. And we don't want to attract—" A startled scream sounded through the trees, the women increasing their pace until they came to a fallen tree.

A man was kneeling next to it, arm caught under one of the larger branches, sandy hair askew as he struggled to pull free.

"Did you hear a tree fall?" Kagura asked. Kagome shook her head, lifting her bow from her shoulder.
