Chapter 2: Longing
Initially Obi-Wan had wanted to go to Mandalore but quickly struck it down. If I go to Mandalore, would the Duchess even want me there, would she care. Obi-Wan looked at his meager belongings in the small suitcase he was backing. Or worse, would he close his pathway of being a Jedi for good. Leaving Satine once still had its scar on him, Obi-Wan was not sure he'd be able to survive leaving her again like he had. Tatooine would be a nice start point but he was worried that Anakin would grow even more emotional due to the close proximity to his mother. Plus living there on that desolate hell hole was the closest thing Obi-Wan could dream of as torture. After some thought, a few drinks and a holonet of local news blaring in the background, Obi-Wan chose Naboo. Sure it came with some problems but the Queen had just about entered her second term and it would be easy to request her help in this matter. They would start there temporarily and then if Anakin still chose to leave they could easily use it as a jumping off point.
While Obi-Wan packed neatly slowly latching the final buttons to the suitcase, Anakin's prefered method was just piling whatever was clean he had in a small carry on with.
"So," Obi Wan started unsure of where to go. "Our first step is Naboo, the Queen will meet us when we land and she'll make sure we have accommodations. From there we will figure out our next path."
"The Queen? " Anakin questioned a slow smile reaching his lips. "When do we leave?"
The flight was long and bumpy without the Jedi transport ships, a large overpacked freighter carried them to the mid rim planets. Obi-Wan stared outside wondering what he did to fail Anakin on his pathway to becoming a jedi.
A man Obi-Wan vaguely recognizde greeted them off the plane. "Hello, I am Gregar Typho, captain of the Naboo Royal Security force."
"Hello there," Obi Wan greeted the man, "I'm Mas-," he stopped himself, "sorry I am Obi-Wan Kenobi and this is Anakin Skywalker my young padawan."
"I am sorry the Queen could not join us," stated Gregar as he picked up the two younger men's bags.
"Is the Queen alright?" Anakin asked quick;y hands fumbling to help the head of security.
"Oh yes, she's quite alright," Gregar chuckled, "Naboo is hosting a trade symposium and Queen Amadala is hosting it, unfortunately the event is lasting a little longer than we expected."
"Don't they always." Obi Wan blankly stated as they entered a new wing in the ancient palace.
"Unfortunately, the Queen will see you both after her last session and then afterwards she invited you both to join the dinner she is hosting for the final night of the symposium"
"Great," Anakin gleefully shouted as Obi-Wan stated that he didn't want to intrude.
.Here are your quarters, use the comm if you need anything Master Jedi" The man abruptly left Obi-Wan to his own thoughts. Master Jedi, huh will this be the last time I'll ever hear that phrase.
Anakin paced in the small quarters, Obi-Wan could feel his anxiety rising. "Anakin," he bit a little too angry, "stop pacing."
"Sorry master," he mumbled. Obi-Wan hated this, when Qui-Gon took a chance on him he vowed that he would live by the Jedi code. When Qui-Gon died he promised to train the boy. And now here he was having to break one of these promises to complete the other. Obi-Wan sighed and laid down on the bed.
Anakin sat down on the one across from him. "Is it okay if I explore the garden outside, until it's time for dinner?"
"Yes, but be back to clean up beforehand and don't wander too far." Obi-Wan responded, he leaned slightly up to get further into the bed deciding that his next two hours were best spent catching up on rest.
It surprisingly didn't take long for Obi-Wan to fall asleep, he was use to long periods of time without rest. In his last mission with his master he had only slept three nights and on the run with Satine sleep was hard to come by. He woke up with a start. There was something strong in the force. He examined it slowly at first thinking it was a threat but then realizing that it was a familiar prescience. A new type of fear hit him. Shit maybe he should have chosen a random fishing port or mining colony instead of Naboo. He was tempted to jump from the balcony and find Anakin and run. Three sharp knocks on his door quashed that escape plan. Slowly Obi-Wan got off the bed quickly using his hand to comb his hair before opening the door.
"Obi," Satine spoke quietly.
