"Did you sense anything?" Kagura asked, pulling Kagome closed as they pressed themselves against the cliffside. Kagome shook her head, trying to get a better view, but Kagura's grip was like iron around her waist.
Sidling along what was left of the path, they made their way to higher ground, breathing a silent sigh of relief when they rounded a corner. It wasn't anywhere near the top, but a few trees had sprouted, their roots firmly planted, and Kagura finally released her.
The beating of wings and high-pitched screeches drew them closer, the mouth of a cave opening up as a harpy flew out, eyes blazing. She was covered in armour and carried a spear, the flames around her feet only growing with her ire.
"I'll teach you to steal from me!" She dove towards the ground, someone leaping out of the way with a grunt.
"I wasn't stealing! I was merely—"
"Lies!" Her spear sliced through fabric as she dove again, leaving scorch lines in the grass.
Kagura groaned. "We could just leave him here."
Scowling, Kagome nocked an arrow. "You know we can't do that."
"But he deserves it! Probably tried to sell her something." They watched as Hojo tried to reason with the youkai, begging for forgiveness and understanding.
It would've been sweet if it hadn't been so pathetic.
Kagura sighed. "Fine, but if he tries to kiss you, I'm letting him." Her fan flicked open before arcs of youki sliced through the air, distracting the harpy long enough for Hojo to dodge another attack.
