Kagome stared in horror as Kagura's kimono turned red, several tentacles piercing her chest and stomach.

"You should really pay more attention," Kagura gasped, smiling softly before falling to her knees. Naraku cackled, and she jerked as the tentacles retracted, leaving her in a crumpled pool of blood.

Kagome pulled her close, tears pouring down her face. "Why did you do that?"

Her chuckle turned into a cough. "That's a stupid question. I wasn't going to let you get hurt."

"But now you're hurt!"

"Oh come now, Kagome," Naraku said, rolling his eyes. "Guardians are easily replaced. As soon as one expires, your power will call to another. No harm done." The beast growled, pushing himself to his feet before stepping between them. Naraku paid him no mind, but Kagura turned her head, eyes hardening.

"I won't forgive you…if anything happens to her." He huffed, tail flicking side to side. "Well, so far, you're doing a terrible job." She coughed again, Kagome's grip around her tightening.

She could feel her sister's heartbeat slowing, her own speeding up as panic seized her.

No.

No no no.

The heat from her power iced over, goosebumps roughening her skin as it flowed through her. All she could see was Kagura, the edges of her vision blurring as her hands began to glow.

She felt Naraku draw closer, the beast's youki spiking, and Kagome lifted her head, the barrier shifting from soft pink to violent purple.

Naraku froze in his descent, a frown puckering his brow as Kagome took a breath, her power so cold it burned. Then she released the barrier, ice shards shooting through the air and blasting through Naraku's body.
