Chapter 4

Ainz, Oberon and the Village Chief were waiting for these so-called knights at the entrance of Carne Village. They spent so many hours waiting for them to come that Oberon started muttering to himself.

The villagers nearby heard him and it confused them. Was he chanting some sort of spell? Or was he thinking of a battle plan?

Unbeknownst to them, Oberon was actually singing a song. A K-pop song, to be specific. He was quietly singing the chorus of Twice's 'Fancy'. Ainz heard him singing and shook his head fondly. Oberon always had this love for K-pop. Anywhere he went, in school, in game, even in a public space, he would sing a random K-pop song he knew.

By the time he was at the bridge of the song, he heard the galloping of horses and looked up from the ground. Men in white and brown armor were coming towards them on their horses.

The one in front of the other knights was the fiercest one. He was a muscular man that looked around his 30's. His eyes were looking straight ahead with seriousness. He stopped when he saw the Village Chief and the two strangers beside him.

"I am the Royal Head Warrior of the Re-Estize Kingdom, Gazef Stronoff." He introduced himself while looking Ainz in the eye. "I have received orders from the King to hunt down the knights of the empire that have been wreaking havoc in this area by visiting all the villages."

Oberon raised his eyebrow discreetly under his hood. For the Royal Head Warrior, he doesn't look like much. Although, he knew he shouldn't underestimate someone so quickly. If he held the position for Head Warrior, then he must be a powerful one.

"Royal Head Warrior…" They heard the Village Chief mutter in awe. All three of them turned their heads to him.

"You must be the chief of this village. Who are these people standing beside you?"

"These gentlemen are-" The Chief was cut off by Ainz.

"Do not worry. Nice to meet you, Royal Head Warrior." Ainz bowed his head slightly. "My name is Ainz Ooal Gown. This is my companion, Oberon." He held his hand out towards his friend, who simply nodded his head in greetings. "We are magic casters that came to help this town while it was being attacked."

Gazef seemed shocked to hear that and got off his horse. "Thank you for saving this village. Mere words cannot fully express my gratitude."

"Head Warrior!" One of the knights behind Gazef called out.

"Unknown figures have been spotted around this area. It seems they've surrounded this village and are approaching as I speak!"

Oh, what the fuck?! Come on, man!

That's what came to Oberon's mind as they once again prepared for another, in his own words 'boring', battle.

I have no idea why I am familiar with this smell.

When that knight announced that another group of people were coming here, we immediately hid in one of the houses of the village as we looked to see what the threat was.

The moment I looked outside, I smelled something very fragrant. Smells like cotton candy with a hint of rosemary. And for some reason, I hate that smell.

When I looked outside, I instantly realized why.

Angels.

No wonder why I have this urge to run outside and go crazy on them.

You guys already know what happened to Angels and Demons in Christianity. How Demons were once Angels who rebelled against God and became fallen angels and stuff like that.

It's no surprise that I felt a flare of competition when I saw these bright, flying, mechanical beings. Nearby human magic casters just made the feeling grow worse.

"They've surrounded the village in equally spaced intervals." One of the knights observed.

"Who are they exactly?" Ainz asked them, genuinely curious.

"Only the Slane Theocracy could send out this many magic casters at once. And they're part of the special ops unit directly under the Head Prest. It must be one of the six scriptures."

"Then, the ones who attacked earlier…" I spoke out loud. The knights flinched at the sound of my voice, clearly spooked at the sound of my voice.

Gazef was the first to snap out of his shock. "They were dressed as soldiers from the Empire, but it looks like they were actually from the Slane Theocracy."

"As I thought." I heard Ainz mutter to himself. "Does this village hold that much value?"

"Sir Gown, if you have any idea why they are attacking then there is only one reason they are attacking this place."

Did he just call Ainz 'Sir Gown'?

"Looks like you are wanted around these parts, Head Warrior." I said.

"This is quite a problem." Gazef looked back outside the window with a smirk. "To think that even the Slane Theocracy is after me…"

I looked back at our attackers. Specifically, the Angels.

Now that I think about it, those are Archangel Flames. They were monsters in YGGDRASIL too. Well, if our abilities from YGGDRASIL still work, It's no surprise that monsters exist here too.

"Sir Gown, I would like to hire you and Sir Oberon. I will be sure to reward you as you wish."

Well, that's unexpected.

"We decline." Ainz bluntly told him.

You couldn't have sugar-coated it, Momo?

"I see. Then, please take care. Thank you again for saving this village." He told us with a warm smile. He walked towards us to shake our hands.

"I am really, truly grateful. I know this is a selfish request, but please protect them once more."

I am getting tired of these requests. Please, for the love of God, let me go home and sing some K-pop in peace!

"I have nothing to give you at this moment, but I beg of you." He was about to get down on his knees before us. "I beg-"

Before he could complete that sentence, Ainz put his hand on the Head Warrior's shoulder, stopping him in his tracks.

"There is no need for you to go that far. I understand. I will be sure to protect the villagers. I will put my name, Ainz Ooal Gown, on the line." Ainz promised him.

Gazef stood up and smiled, "Then, I will have nothing to worry about. I will just focus on the enemy before me!"

"Then, please take this." Ainz opened his palm towards Gazef where he held a statuette. It was an Exchange Puppet.

I remember these things. They were cash items that allow Players in YGGDRASIL to switch with the person who carries it.

"A gift from one such as you?" Gazef asked Ainz, confused but he took the item nonetheless. "I will accept it gratefully."

He bowed his head slightly towards us. "Goodbye." He then walked towards the door with us following shortly after, just in time to see him and his army depart.

Ainz sighed. "When I first met the humans here, I saw them as nothing more than insects."

I looked at him a bit surprised. "You too?"

"Yes. But I grow fond as I converse with them, coming to see them as small animals."

"Damn. I wish I could have the same thoughts as you do." I said, a bit jealous of how his emotions against humans work.

"Lord Ainz and Lord Oberon." I heard a familiar, old voice call out to us and saw the Village Chief and his wife walking towards us. "Why is the Head Warrior leaving?"

"Their aim is the Head Warrior." Ainz answered his question.

"Th-Then, should we stay here like this?!"

"That is not the case. We should escape once the head warrior breaks the ring of soldiers. He will cause a ruckus as he escapes, to make an opening for us."

That plan made the couple relieved.

"I'll follow the Head Warrior and make sure they don't try anything suspicious while you help the villagers. Besides, I don't do well with humans." I muttered the last part.

Ainz thought about my plan for a while before nodding. "Very well. Stay safe out there, my friend."

"I always am." I assured him with a grin. I turned towards the direction of where Gazef rode off to and used [Fly] to get there quickly.

After a short flight, I saw Gazef and his men fighting against the Slane Theocracy. I have no idea what happened to Gazef's horse since I can't see it anywhere and he is on his feet.

Gazef tried slashing one of the Archangel Flames with his sword but it merely bounced off its metal skin. He tried again, this time with enough force to send it flying away.

I whistled. Not bad. The people here are full of surprises.

I took my gaze off of Gazef and looked at what we were dealing with. Doesn't look like much. Just a bunch of mages and Archangel Flames. Although I did see something standing out from our other enemies.

"Huh. A Principality Observation. Cheeky."

Beside the large Angel is a blonde man with a scar running down the left side of his face.

I switched my gaze back to Gazef who actually managed to cut down the Angel he was fighting with, turning into nothing but specks of light.

How the hell? I thought the Archangel Flames reduces the damage normal weapons do to them unless they were imbued with magic. I didn't sense any magic from him.

I'll have to look into this further.

5 more Angels surrounded him and went to attack him but they were interrupted by the sound of hooves and shouts coming towards them. I looked at the source and saw his men coming back to help him.

The magic casters cast a spell towards the oncoming knights, which caused their horses to run wild and for them to fall over. They must have done the same thing to Gazef's horse. Archangel Flames went over to them and stabbed them.

All of the Angels spread out and fought with the soldiers. Some of them managed to hold off on their own, the others, not so much.

Seeing their disadvantage, Gazef opted to attack the blondie with the Principality Observation, dodging any attacks the Angels sent him.

Angels tried blocking his way but in a blink of an eye all of them were sliced in half.

I sent a [Message] to Ainz, hearing the familiar click in my head.

"You're seeing this shit, right?"

"Yes, I am. I can't quite hear what they're saying though."

"Yeah, me neither. I want to get closer but that would mean getting my cover blow-"

I was cut off by a yell of pain and I looked back at Gazef, only to see him being brutally attacked by the magic casters. Pieces of his armor fell off and he spit out blood.

A horde of Angels attacked him. He tried defending himself but one managed to pierce him on the side, a streak of blood spewing out of him before he fell down.

"...Well, shit."

"...Oh."

"He's still alive, surprisingly." I watched as the man weakly grabbed his sword and stood up.

"DON'T UNDERESTIMATE ME!" He roared out loud.

Oh my God. Is everyone in the world dramatic?

He dropped his voice a bit. He was still screaming at the blondie but I could barely hear his words. I did pick up a few things like "I am Head Warrior", "I will not lose" and something like that.

I looked at the blondie to see what he would do. His mouth was moving, which meant that he was probably taunting Gazef.

Ah. The trope where the villain taunts the hero. Classic.

"...Alright, I'm going in."

"What?!"

"I'm not repeating myself."

"Oberon, you can't-!"

"Ainz, I am bored. I am tired. And I really just want to go back home. If we can deal with this problem ASAP, then that just might happen. Besides, those are YGGDRASIL Monsters and Spells. We are nothing if not prepared for this."

For a while, I didn't hear anything on the other end. I finally heard Ainz let out a very long sigh.

"Fine. But don't fight just yet. Wait for me to use the item, okay?"

"Sure thing, Momo."

"...I told you not to call me that."

I simply chuckled before disconnecting the [Message] and looked back to where Gazef was still standing.

I flew down in front of Gazef, just as the Angels were closing in. The look on the blondie's face was priceless, I almost lost my composure.

"Wh-Where did you-" He stuttered out.

"L-Lord Oberon?" I heard Gazef's weak voice call out to me.

"Good job, Captain." I praised him. I pushed my hand out towards our enemy before a purplish flame covered it.

"We'll take over from here." Just as I said that, Gazef's presence was replaced by a familiar one. I could feel the stares of the blondie and his magic casters behind me. I can already guess who it was.

"What took so long?" I asked Ainz as he walked to my side.

"Had to make sure the villagers and the warehouse were safe."

"Who are you?" The blondie asked him, his shock nowhere to be seen.

Ainz stepped forward. "Nice to meet you, people of the Slane Theocracy. My name is Ainz Ooal Gown. Please call me Ainz. This is my companion, Oberon." He gestured towards me as I tilted my head in a threatening way, my flame-covered hand still pointed towards the mages.

"We have a bit of a relationship with that village." Ainz told them.

"No, I don't." I muttered quietly but it seemed Ainz heard me and glared at me from the side of his eye.

"Have you come to beg for the lives of the villagers?" Blondie said with a smug smirk that I so wanted to punch off his face.

"No, no. Actually…" A tense silence hung in the air as the Slane Theocracy were on their guard.

"...I overheard your conversation with the Head Warrior. You really have a lot of balls." Blondie seemed shocked to hear that.

"You announced that you'll massacre the villagers that we bothered saving. I cannot imagine anything more offensive."

"Offensive?! Big words, magic caster. So, what will you do about it?" The idiot smiled madly at Ainz's words.

"Offer your life to me without resistance. If you do so, there will be no pain. However, if you refuse, you will die painfully and in despair for your foolishness."

Dramatic ass.

"Have the angels attack!" Blondie ordered his men as the Angels quickly flew towards us.

Finally some real fun.

I was about to shoot the [Fireball] when Ainz thrust his hand and stopped me in my tracks.

"What are you doing?" I asked Ainz.

"Let me handle this, Oberon."

"Are you sure?" I got a nod as confirmation.

"...Fine. If you die, I'm gonna resurrect you and I will rip off your face."

Ainz chuckled at my threat just as two Archangels impaled him.

I gasped a little. At that moment, I thought that I just let my friend die. I tried to calm down by telling myself that he wouldn't die that easily. Not from these weak Angels.

"How pathetic. This is what happens when you make stupid bluffs." Blondie said with a smug grin before it turned into a frown when he saw something happening to the Angels.

Ainz had the Angels in his grasp.

I let out a small sigh of relief seeing him still alive. That relief turned into irritation. How dare he make me worry about him.

"Didn't I tell you?" Ainz started to say as the Angels in his hands writhed. "'Offer your life to me without resistance.' Don't you know it's important to listen to the warnings of others?"

"Impossible!"

"It must be some kind of trick!"

I heard some of the magic casters shout out in alarm. I walked towards Ainz.

"You made me worry back there."

"Sorry. But it's nice to see that [High Tier Physical Immunity III] still works."

Without warning, he slammed the two Archangels down onto the floor. The ground cracked under the force and dust kicked up around us. The Angels disappeared into specks of light.

"I want to know why you all can use the same magic and summons as YGGDRASIL. But I'll put that aside for now. It's our turn now. Ready, Oberon?"

"Ready as I'll ever be." I said with excitement in my voice and a mad grin on my face.

"Have all the Angels attack at once! Hurry!" Blondie screamed.

20 or so Archangel Flames dashed towards us with their flaming swords at the ready.

"Oberon." I jumped away immediately, already knowing what's about to happen.

"[Negative Burst]!" I heard Ainz yell not a second later.

A dome of black energy formed around Ainz and exploded outwards, disintegrating every single Angel coming at him.

"Wha-?!"

"I-Impossible!"

Once the dust cleared, I jumped back towards Ainz.

"[Holy Ray]!"

"[Poison]!"

"[Shockwave]!"

And now we're being bombarded by spells. Fortunately, they were at least 4th Tier. It was nothing we couldn't handle.

"They're scared of you." I said to Ainz under the barrage of spells. A purplish shield surrounded before those weak spells could even hit us. Thank God for [High Tier Magic Immunity III].

"You're right. As I suspected, these are all spells from YGGDRASIL." Ainz looked towards our enemy. "Who taught you that magic?!"

That sentence made a guy scream so loud, he looked like he pissed his pants off. That same guy fired an iron pellet towards Ainz in a slingshot on his arm.

I rolled my eyes and bitch-slapped the iron pellet back towards the idiot. Let's just say that his mind was blown.

Literally.

It took a while for the Slane Theocracy to process what just happened.

"You do realize that wouldn't have hurt me, right?"

"Yes, I know that." I said as I watched the look of terror on the blondie's face and the way his men were shaking. "But I also didn't want to just stand here and miss the thrill of the fight."

He lightly chuckled. "I apologize, then."

"Principality Observation! Attack!" Blondie screamed at the large Angel beside him.

As the Angel summoned a large mace and moved towards us, Ainz spoke to me. "Perhaps this one will satisfy you."

I smirked at him in thanks. It raised its mace and striked down and I blocked it with my bare hand.

Surprisingly, that didn't hurt.

I used the [Pheromones III] skill on it. I blew a fog of spores onto the Angel, as if blowing a kiss. Within seconds of contact, the Principality Observation started twisting and turning before flowers with demonic mouths sprouted from its body.

More monstrous plants grew from it before it finally fell down the ground and disappeared into specks of light.

"One… hit?" I heard blondie mutter before he shouted out, "That's impossible! There's no way a high-level Angel could be destroyed with one spell!"

"Captain Nigun! What should we do?!" One of the magic casters asked him.

The blondie had a look of realization before he dug his hand into his pocket before pulling an item. A Sealing Crystal from the looks of it.

"We will summon the highest level angel!"

Oh. Oh shit!

Ainz and I are incredibly weak against Holy magic, being evil beings. If they summon a Seraph or a Seraph Empyrean, then this will get serious.

I was just about to summon a spell to stop them but Ainz stopped me.

"Wait." Ainz said to me.

"Ainz, Are you serious?!" I whisper-shouted to him. "If they have a Seraph Empyrean, then we are in danger! You know that, right?!"

"Yes, I do know that." He said, too calm for my liking. "But based on how it glows, it cannot seal any top-tier spells. Besides, even if we are in trouble, I am certain both of us can defeat it together."

I am not as knowledgeable on Sealing Crystals as Ainz is, so I genuinely had no idea what they could other than the obvious, they seal things. His words slightly reassured me.

"...Alright. Let's see how this turns out." I grumbled as we turned back towards the blondie still holding out the Sealing Crystal.

"Look, the shining form of the highest of Angels!" Blondie declares to us. "Dominion Authority!"

Wait, what?

As if summoned straight from Heaven, the area was bathed in a holy light and a slight fragrance was brought in the air. I so wanted to gag on the smell.

The giant toaster Angel had no head and legs and was covered with numerous glowing feathered wings. At the front of its head, it has a magic circle.

Are you serious? This is their trump card?

While the Slane Theocracy gasped in awe and cheered, I stood there stunned and embarrassed that I worried about something so weak.

"This angel is your strongest trump card?" I heard Ainz say behind me but I didn't care. I was still looking at the Angel in disbelief.

"That's right. I have determined that you are worthy enough to use this item." Blondie told us with a smug smile.

I slowly turned my head towards Ainz, who had his head in his hand. "I'm speechless."

The blonde idiot took this as another thing though. "Are you afraid? It cannot be helped."

"...This is stupid." Ainz said.

"What?!"

I put my head in my hands in embarrassment. "I'm so sorry I doubted you, Ainz. I thought that…" I mumbled underneath my breath.

"No, no, it's alright, Oberon. I just can't believe we were on guard against such child's play."

"Child's play? What are you saying? I-It can't be…" I heard the blondie question us and I finally looked up and fixed myself, exhaling.

"No, it's impossible! In front of an existence which mankind cannot defeat, you're bluffing!"

Why is he still saying all these all these things when he literally saw us do something not even Gazef can do?

"Use [Holy Smite]!" Blondie ordered the Dominion Authority.

The staff it held broke into glowing fragments and floated around it in a circle.

I ignored it and focused on other things. I played with my nails for a little bit. It was a habit I adopted when I was still a teen. My family said to stop doing that but there's something about it that just seemed so satisfying.

"This is a 7th-tier magic that no man can go against. Taste the power that annihilated demons, the judgment of God!" Blondie declared.

I don't care. I just wanna go home now.

A pillar of Holy magic descended upon us. I did feel a little pain from the attack but it felt like a child trying to punch a fully grown adult. Barely hurts.

The idiot looked at us smugly, thinking he finally won against us. That was until Ainz started laughing.

"So this is what it feels like to take damage! This is pain!" Ainz said in wonder.

What the hell, Ainz? Are you secretly a masochist?

The blondie gasped in horror when he saw us still standing. I quietly snickered at the look on his face. Honestly, this guy is not nearly so ugly when he's horrified.

"Should I kill it or should you? I'm itching to kill this last one"

"Let me handle this. There's a chance that you could kill everyone here if you use one of your abilities. We still have questions to be answered."

Wow. He doesn't trust me anymore? How rude.

"Well then, after you, my lady." I jokingly said to Ainz while bowing.

"Oh, stop it." He said as he stepped forward. "It's my turn now. Know despair."

He's having way too much fun to be this dramatic in one fight.

"[Black Hole]!" He lifted his hand up to the Dominion Authority where a small black dot the size of a basketball appeared. It vacuumed everything, even the Dominion Authority.

It only lasted a second.

"Well, that was quick." I muttered quietly. The light brought by the Dominion Authority disappeared. I just found out that it's already evening.

"A power that surpasses the devil. Who in the world are you people?" The blondie weakly said.

"Ainz Ooal Gown. In the past, there was no one who did not know this name."

"My real name is Oberon. No lies there."

A crack appeared in the night sky momentarily before it disappeared in a flash of light.

"Wh-What was that?" Blondie wondered out loud.

"It seems someone was watching you from afar, using information magic. My counter attacking defense barrier activated, so they must not have seen much" Ainz informed him.

"My country was watching me?"

"As much as I love you being humiliated in front of everyone, I think it's time to stop playing around. I've had enough fun and games for today." I told them while brushing the dust off my cloak.

"W-W-W-W-Wait a second!" Blondie shrieked aloud. "Sir Ainz Ooal Gown. No, Lord! All of us… No, I alone am enough! If you spare my life, I will give you whatever r-reward you wish!" His followers gasped at his begging.

I smirked at his cowardice. I like him begging.

"If I remember correctly…" Ainz took off his mask while I took off my cloak revealing our true forms. "'Stop this futile resistance and fall quietly. As an act of mercy, I will make sure your death is painless.'" Ainz said while he looked at us in horror.

"FINALLY!" I said as I flew excitedly in front of Ainz. The Overlord chuckled at my excitement.

"You're rather happy today."

"Who wouldn't?! We spent a whole day in that hellhole!"

After more spinning around in the air, I realized something. I had a question to ask him.

"I forgot to ask. Why did you change your name? You promised that you would tell me."

He was silent for a while before he finally answered me.

"I changed my name because it was more well known back in YGGDRASIL. If any of our friends are here, they will know we are here as well."

"Mhmm. And what about our emotions?" He seemed genuinely confused when I asked that question. "Don't think I didn't notice the way you act. You're feeling something's wrong with them, aren't you?"

He sighed deeply. "I thought I could hide this from you."

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

"No, it's alright…" He took a deep breath before he started talking again.

"I think my emotions are being suppressed. But if the emotion is strong enough, it will be suppressed. Not completely, of course."

Well, that makes a lot of sense, given his constant emotionless state.

For a moment, we stood there in silence.

"...How do you feel about today?"

Huh?

"What do you mean?" I asked him.

"I mean, How do you feel? About what we did?"

I let out a thoughtful hum. "All things considered, I feel great. I mean, I got to show off a little in front of people who are considerably weaker than us. But if you're asking about the people we killed, I still feel fine. How about you?"

"I admit, I had my doubts about this plan of mine. But at least we got information and connections. We know far more than we did before. As for killing… I suppose I feel the same way as you do."

I nodded my head. "Well, despite me being irritated most of the time, we had a damn good day, didn't we?" I smiled up at him.

If you squint a little, you could say a smile somehow made it into his face. "Yes, it appears we did."

After a few moments of silence, we started walking back towards where Nazarick is supposed to be.

"By the way, are we just gonna ignore how you acted like a masochist back there?" I asked him.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

"...Um-"

"First, we apologize for moving on our own. We will tell you all that has happened."

We finally made it back to Nazarick after a while. Ainz dodged my question by opening up a [Gate], leaving me behind in the fields. I am so gonna beat his ass after this.

"However, there is one thing I must say immediately." He pointed a finger towards the flag that held his symbol. "[Greater Break Item]!"

The flag disappeared in a matter of seconds. The residents of Nazarick looked at the place where it once was in horror. They turned their attention back towards Ainz when he spoke once again.

"I have changed my name. From now on, my name is Ainz Ooal Gown. You shall call me Ainz. If you have any objections, stand and voice them now!"

I just shook my head with a smirk. I've gotten used to his dramatic speeches by now.

"We have heard your precious name. We devote absolute loyalty to our venerable leader. Hail Lord Ainz Ooal Gown!" Albedo declared with the rest of the residents following her.

"We shall give ourselves completely to the Supreme One!" Shalltear said with a sultry look.

"To the most powerful king." Aura and Mare said in unison and with smiles on their faces.

"Everyone in this world will know of your greatness." Demiurge uttered with that same dashing smirk.

"The one who rules over all, our king." That was Cocytus in his deep voice.

"Glory to the Overlord, the ruler of death!" Albedo spoke out.

Why do I feel like I'm nothing but decoration here? It's like they all swear their loyalty to Ainz and just completely forget that I am right here.

Ainz slammed his staff on the ground and declared, "This is an absolute order! Make Ainz Ooal Gown an eternal legend!"

And with that, everyone cheered while I smiled softly at the scene below before leaving the room.

A/N: Hey y'all! Sorry for not posting for a while. I didn't have time to make a chapter since school has been giving me a lot of stuff to do. I do have a thing or two to say.

I don't know if I should turn this into an Ainz x OC fic. All the other fics I've seen where either they replace Ainz to be the ruler of Nazarick or they just straight up have a harem. I am pretty reluctant to turn them into an M/M pairing. I'll leave it to you guys to decide whether or not I should do it.

Other than that, please tell me what I did wrong so that I can improve in my writing. Thanks for reading! See you next chapter.
