Kagome stood still, fingers tingling as she blanketed the area with her power, not trusting him to—
"What, no grand finale?" Kagura winced as she sat up, holding her side. Kagome rushed to help her, reining in her power after finding no trace of Naraku and concentrating on her sister instead.
The wounds were still fresh, her youki depleted, but her heartbeat was strong, and Kagome breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm telling Mama you almost died," she chastised softly.
Kagura chuckled and pressed their foreheads together. Kagome held her close, the emotions she'd kept buried rising up with a vengeance, single tears quickly turning into choked sobs. Kagura stroked her hair, managing to keep a straight face even though her shoulders shook just as hard.
"You're more than just a guardian," Kagome said, the sound muffled against Kagura's kimono.
"I damn well better." Kagura wrapped her arms around her. "You get into too much trouble for me to be anything but a sister."
Another sob escaped Kagome's lips. "Only a sister would try to set me up with a monster," she said, pulling back, their eyes meeting for a brief moment before they dissolved into laughter.
"How was I supposed to know?" Kagura griped between giggles. "He had that 'come hither and save me so that I might worship you' vibe."
"You mean the 'come hither so I can torture you because I've been obsessed with you since birth' vibe." They looked at each other and collapsed again, tears pouring down their faces as they lost their composure for a second time, the weight of their relief making it hard to stay upright.
