"Is he really gone?" Kagura asked, looking around at the surrounding trees, clicking her tongue at the scorched earth. Kagome extended her reiki, any last vestiges of Naraku dissolving as the sky finally cleared.

They sucked in a deep breath, lungs expanding with fresh air, and Kagome finally smiled. "I don't sense anything. I think—" Something caught her eye, shimmering in one of the few patches of grass still left intact.

She assumed it was the bit of fur Naraku had sliced off the beast, but as she got to her feet, she noticed some red patches. Had he been more seriously injured than she'd thought?

She hadn't noticed any extra blood, but she'd been more concerned with Kagura, her injuries more grave than any of the flesh wounds Naraku had dealt to the beast. Idly wondering if something like this could be reattached, she reached for the item, eyes widening when her fingers brushed the corner of a red hexagon.

She knew that crest.

Heart hammering in her chest, she picked it up, a tingle of youki raising the hair on the back of her neck. Whirling around, she stared at the beast from across the clearing, crimson gaze unblinking as electricity crackled across the sky. Kagome was forced to cover her face as lightning struck him, mixing with the torrent of youki.

When the storm cleared, the beast was gone, and Kagome found herself staring into a pair of familiar amber eyes.

"You."
