Considering what he was and what they'd been through, it was strange to just wander around holding hands. They stayed within the barrier, Kagome's chest filling with pride that he took her power so seriously, content to just be in each other's presence.

"Do you have duties back at the castle?" she asked, leaning against his arm.

"Mother will likely put me in charge of the infantry," he replied, leaning down and pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

"Even though there's no threat?"

He snorted. "There is always a threat. Some just require more attention than others."

She smiled cheekily, giving a sideways glance. "Not too much attention, I hope." Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow, his expression giving nothing away, but she could feel the interest in his aura. "I just don't want you to be with the soldiers all day and then be too tired for everything else."

His fingers twitched, and he brought the back of her hand to his mouth. "It seems you have much to learn about youkai stamina."

She managed to keep herself still, biting back a moan when his tongue darted out against her skin. "We wouldn't want you to work too hard. You might hurt—" Kagome's eyes widened, and she grabbed his clothes in earnest. "Does the castle have healers? Ones that heal youkai? I could help!"

He blinked, twice, as if the thought had never occurred to him. "There are many, but they mostly deal with superficial wounds, especially when it comes to humans and hanyou."

"But not youki. Or spells. Or seals," she said, becoming more excited with each word. "I could train them."
