I know everyone is tired of Edward and Bella but I am using them to lead into Seth's secret and the final ending which I have outlined already.
Edward followed his wife out of the church leaving the Newtons' wedding, it had been a tiring affair. He hadn't wanted to be there, but Bella had made him go. Things had been tedious with his wife, so he was trying to appease her as best he could. She clutched Little Edward to her chest as Renesmee clutched her skirts. He watched her interact with her friends and acquaintances as they slowly, very slowly, walked to their waiting wagon.
He knew why she was upset with him, though he didn't see it as big a deal as she did. Charlie Swan, Bella's father, was angry he was quitting the saloon to work full time as a deputy. Emmett hadn't spoken to him since their cuss fight at the bar several weeks ago, that had been the night he'd confessed to Charlie he was quitting. It seemed like everyone was against him, Bella was angry he angered Charlie, Charlie was angry he was quitting the saloon, Emmett was angry he'd be working the bar alone also that Edward hadn't shown for his shift that day.
Finally, they reached the wagon and he helped Renesmee up to crawl in. He took Little Edward from his wife and helped her as well then handed her back the baby. He then climbed up in the driver's seat and grabbed the reins and steered the horse toward home.
"It was a lovely wedding," Bella said from the back of the wagon.
"Uhm," he agreed.
"I wish our wedding had been like that… Instead of a shotgun wedding." She continued.
"Uhm," he agreed again.
"Are you even listening to me?" she demanded. Climbing from the back to sit next to him on the long bench upfront.
"Yes," he said glaring at her. He looked over his shoulder finding his children nestled together and asleep.
"What did I say then?" she challenged him raising an eyebrow.
"The wedding was lovely and that you hated our wedding." He replied.
"I didn't say I hated our wedding! I said I wish it hadn't been a shotgun wedding." She said folding her arms over her chest and staring forward.
"So, you regret Renesmee?" he asked hurt and shocked.
"NO! Never." She turned to him looking him over. She scooted closer to him and laid her head on his shoulder; he kissed her head smiling to himself. "It just gives Pa another reason to hate you. I just want the fighting to end."
"So, you're not angry with me?" he asked.
"No, this is just hard for me. You're my husband, the love of my life, and the father of my children. But he's my Pa and he thinks I should take his side in the matter. I don't want to be in middle, Ma did that to me when she started havin' that affair with Phil. She used you against me, saying she'd tell Pa about us." Bella was practically in tears when she finished.
He stopped the wagon in front of their house, dropping the reins, and turning to her pulling her into his arms. "I'm sorry, love. I didn't know Charlie was doing that to you. I'll talk to him."
She only nodded, rubbing her face against his chest while taking a deep breath, breathing him in. It felt amazing. A whimper from the back of the wagon drew his attention to the sleeping babes. Little Edward was wiggling and rubbing his eyes. Bella pulled away from him and climb back to the children she lifted Little Edward into her arms and gently shook Renesmee awake. Edward climbed down and help his family out of the wagon, leading them inside.
He wasn't all that shocked to learn Charlie was trying to turn his wife against him. Charlie had only allowed the match because Bella had been pregnant, he would use any excuse to come between them. They were inside now and Renesmee had run off to her dolls as Little Edward toddled behind his mother who was preparing Sunday brunch. Brunch would be the perfect time to speak to Charlie, as he and Sue would be there, along with Seth and Leah with Jacob Junior.
An hour later they arrive. Charlie helps Sue out of their wagon, then takes Jacob Junior from Leah and hands him to Sue before turning back and helping Leah to the ground. Seth refuses Charlie's help and jumps down on his own. Bella welcomes them in, she and Sue begin seating the table. Leah places JJ on the floor and he joins Little Edward, who is now playing on the floor with old toys. Leah watches the boys play and makes no move to help her mother and Bella. Renesmee greets Charlie with a smile and hug, before running over to her brother and JJ. Edward motions for Charlie to follow him and leads him out back, with Seth tagging along.
Charlie glares at him saying, "What's this about, boy?"
"You're angry with me and I understand why," Edward starts, Charlie gives a raised eyebrow. "But stop trying to turn Bella against me!"
"I'm not!" Charlie says outraged.
"You are! She told me!" Edward replied.
"Is it working?" Charlie asked dropping his lie.
"NO! And it's only hurting her." Edward said glaring.
"I would never hurt her!" Charlie was angry again.
"But you are. You keep trying to get her to take your side. And she doesn't want to go against you, but I am her husband. She doesn't want to be at odds with me either." Edward paused giving the other man time to understand. "You're mad at me, that's fine. Don't put her in the middle of it."
Edward walked away then letting Charlie think about what he'd said. Not long after brunch was ready and they sat down to eat. Sue told them all the gossip going on in town. A stranger called Aro Volturi had come to town and had taken to spending time with Maria. Word of Irina and Embry had reached his mother and they were both now staying in her apartment. Sam had gone to the shaman and asked for something to help him and his wife conceive. Jacob had gone to his father the village chief and asked for a devoice from Tanya, Leah even confessed that Jacob had expressed wanting to marry her.
As they were getting ready to go Charlie stopped and grab Edward by the arm, "You were right I shouldn't have brought Bella into this. That wasn't fair to her, she loves you and I knew trying to bring strife between you was wrong. I… I just thought that someday you'd both take over the saloon and you working with Jasper puts a hold on that…"
"Why? Bella enjoys working at the saloon. Let her run it, you know Emmett would never let anything happen to her." Edward said.
Charlie thought about for a moment, "Your right. I never thought of that." Charlie turned to his daughter, "Would you want to run the saloon?"
"Really? That's what this was about?" Bella asked.
He only nodded asking, "would you?"
"Of course, I love working at the saloon," Bella said throwing herself into her father's arms.
They left and not long after he kissed his wife and children goodbye and headed into town for his shift at the station. There wasn't much to do in the quiet little town, just the usual behind bars. Garret was napping in his cell sleeping off whiskey and a fight he'd been over Kate, a saloon girl. James was cursing the unfairness of being behind bars while Emmett wasn't, he'd been caught stealing from Caius Volturi. There were also two Quileutes whom Edward didn't know, but they were there often.
Jasper returned dragging a boy behind him, he was cursing the kid up and down. Edward stood from behind the desk just as the boy appeared from behind Jasper. Seth stood close to tears.
"What's going on?" Edward asked him.
"He was caught sneaking into the Mallory house," Jasper explained.
"I wasn't sneaking Lauren asked me to come," Seth said.
"Did Miss Mallory deny that?" Edward asked. There was no way he wanted to explain this to his father-in-law or wife.
"No," Jasper admitted. "But Mr. Mallory wanted him brought in. I plan on let 'em go."
"I… I love her. And she loves me." Seth insisted.
"That may be so." Edward started. "But ya can't be sneaking into folks' homes, even if she asked ya too."
"I'm sorry, Edward. Please don't tell my ma and Charlie." He begged.
"Alright, I won't. However, I am telling Bella." He said.
Seth hung his head, "Really?"
"You can't ask a man to lie to his wife boy," the voice came from the cells. Garret was sitting up on his cot looking at them.
Seth looked at him then at Edward, "Fine tell her but don't let her tell anyone else." He looked to Jasper "Can I go?"
"By all means leave," the sheriff said. "I'll bet the whole town will know by morning." The sheriff said laughing.
Edward smirked know Jasper was right. Maybe they wouldn't know the whole truth but there'd be rumors. There were always rumors in a small town.
