After spending most of the weekend with Toby, Spencer has some very important decisions to make. Very important. (Read until the end)

Chapter 14 Beginning of The End?

That evening, Spencer returned to her house with a smile that would not leave her face. Her smile had nothing to do with her lunch with her friends. Of course, she was always happy to see them, and she did have an enjoyable time with her friends. Toby gets the credit for her smile that just won't quit. She had such a wonderful time with him last night playing scrabble in his loft, drinking coffee, sharing an apple pie, and even sharing a few laughs. This morning when she woke up with him, she remembered how truly at peace she felt. Toby made breakfast for her and made her coffee that would make any sane human being tremble for days, but for Spencer it was how she liked it. Their horse ride together was so peaceful that it left Spencer feeling like she had been living in a world clarity since this morning. She felt great. Nothing could ruin the incredible feelings she felt in that moment.

Spencer tossed her purse on the chair in the living room then walked to her fridge to look for something she could have for dinner. Neither of her parents were home. It was typical for them to be gone a lot. She didn't mind being alone much. Most of the time she preferred it. At last, Spencer found left over chicken salad that her mom must have made the night before. She took that out and made herself a plate.

After finishing her meal, she washed her plate, dried it, then stuck it in the dish drainer. The night was still young. Spencer spent the next thirty minutes sitting on her couch flipping through channels on the television. Nothing interested her, so she turned it off and picked up one of the magazines from the coffee table. She read about a page and half before getting bored. She tossed the magazine back down on the coffee table. Just when she was about to call it a night and go upstairs, her phone rang. Spencer's heart grew as she hoped it would be Toby that was calling her. It wasn't. It was Wren. Her heart dropped. She took a breath before answering.

"Hey," she said.

"Hey, there, love," Wren's voice came through the other end. "Are you asleep yet?"

"No, I'm not," she said. "It is pretty late here, but I'm still awake."

"Oh, good," he said.

"But it is late for you, isn't it or early? It's almost 3 in the morning where you are."

"Yeah," Wren snickered. His words were coming out slowly. It was almost hard to understand him correctly. "The guys and I went out to a pub after our meeting. I forgot how much I love the beer here!"

"Right, your seminar. How did that go?"

"Oh, I'm too hammered to remember." Spencer heard him hiccup through the line. "What about you? How have you been spending your time since I left? You're not missing me too much, I hope."

Spencer reflected on the last two days with Toby. She smiled, remembering the relief she felt when Toby wanted to spend the evening with her just spending time together. He didn't plan any sleezy events like she had expected. It was just some cool, laid-back fun, just like Toby. She thought more about their ride up to Lookout Point. How Toby had been completely open with her about something so troubling from his past. She snapped too when she heard Wren comment, waiting for a response.

"Oh, not much," Spencer said. "Just hang out with my friends. We had a fashion show yesterday. That was fun."

"Good, good," Wren slurred. "Listen, darling, I got to go. The mates and I want to play a final round of darts before we turn in."

"Okay." Normally, Spencer would be upset by a short, distant call, but she was more than ready to hang up. "Goodnight then, I guess."

"Night," was all she heard Wren say before hanging up on her.

Spencer hung up her end of the call then stuffed her phone back inside her pocket. Okay, that call from Wren drained her happiness a little, but not as much as it would have if her mind hadn't been filled with memories of Toby. She pushed the negative thoughts away and used her thoughts of her day with Toby. Soon, that dreamy smile was back on her face.

Monday morning Spencer was awakened by the faint sound of a vehicle reversing. Her heart raced and she instantly bolted out of bed, and over to her window. The heat rose to her cheeks the second her eyes found Toby down in the backyard with his crew. He was wearing a light gray shirt and jeans. He was already busy at work.

Spencer quickly threw on an outfit: a deep green short sleeve shirt, a pair of jeans, and a white jacket. She brushed her hair then added a touch of makeup to her face. She pulled on a pair of brown boots then bounced downstairs to the kitchen. She was grinning by the time she reached the bottom step knowing that she'd be seeing Toby face to face soon. Just when Spencer was about to reach the door to the backyard…

"Spencer!" Her mom was sitting at the kitchen counter with an empty plate and a half cup of coffee.

Spencer about faced and smiled brightly at her. "Good morning, mother."

"Wow," Veronica raised an eyebrow in suspicion. "Why are you so cheery this morning?

Spencer shrugged, "I'm just in a good mood today. That's all."

"I know something else that will lift your mood." Veronica held up the wedding planner folder and grinned. "Your wedding planner finally sent this! What do you think about starting plans for your wedding?"

Spencer's smile faded as her heart sunk to the bottom of her stomach. She suddenly felt queasy and a little lightheaded. Spencer walked over to the kitchen counter and gripped one of the chairs tightly.

"Wow, mom," Spencer forced a smile. "I don't know what to say."

Veronica had already started flipping through all the pamphlets. She had one on wedding locations, wedding venues, and wedding themes. She had a stack of wedding dress photos, wedding flowers, and so much more.

Veronica smiled, "I think we should pick a venue today. Now, honey, I know you're not big on church weddings, but they can be decorated to look so beautiful. It doesn't have to be a religious ceremony if you feel that strongly about it."

"I don't know, mom—"

"Oh! For the reception, it should be outdoors. We could rent out a garden, a lovely place with a pond or even a fountain. It would look so beautiful."

"I'm sure it would, mom."

Veronica continued to ramble on about wedding plans. Spencer sunk down on a stool. She didn't say much regarding wedding plans. She didn't say much about anything. She just listened to her mom go on and on. In the forefront of her mind, Spencer began to wonder if she still even wanted to go through with the wedding at all. She was too frozen in her own thoughts that she couldn't even dare to think about voicing that opinion to her mother. Spencer knew her mom would try to reverse those thoughts quickly. So, instead of speaking, Spencer just nodded along allowing her mom to plan out a wedding Spencer wasn't sure she wanted anymore.

Spencer's mom has started planning Spencer's wedding. Spencer appears to have second thoughts about her wedding. Will she still go through with it?

I might give you guys an extra chapter this week. I was thinking of having the next chapter posted by Friday, but that will only happen if people write a review for this chapter. Here's an idea. Share your theories for future chapters in the reviews. Thank you. (:
