I don't own twilight.
I know it's been a while since I've added any chapters and I'm sorry for that. My computer went down and then I broke my laptop so I haven't been able to write until recently. Also just a heads up according to the outline I have two more one-shots and this will officially be complete.
Charlie and Sue
Charlie was at the saloon which Edward and his daughter Bella had renamed Masen's, Bella had somehow convinced Edward to help with the saloon. He wondered how she had succeeded where he'd failed. He had finally moved Sue and Seth into his cabin, but she seemed upset more and more as of late. He wanted to talk to her but had never been one to express his emotions, he felt that was where he'd failed with Renee. Yes, for Charlie Swan these were bad times all around.
Just when it felt like things were coming together. He had Sue who he had loved from afar for years. He had Seth who was the son he'd never had. For once he didn't have to come to work every day. Even he and Bella had managed to patch things between them and he and Edward were on ok terms. He had two wonderful grandchildren, three if he counted Jacob Junior and he did. He just couldn't understand where things had gone wrong.
More importantly, he couldn't believe Edward had caved to Bella, where Charlie had spent a year trying. Sue insisted he should let it go cause in the end he'd gotten what he'd wanted all along. Charlie had known Bella wouldn't be able to run the saloon on her own, and at least he felt justified in that knowledge. Edward had even quit as a deputy so he could focus on the saloon with Bella. Masen's was doing well under the new changes, better than before even.
James and Victoria had been run out of town and were forced to return all they'd stolen. Garret had confessed to being the leader of the Nomad Gang but thanks to having proven he'd changed for Kate he was allowed to stay. Tanya and Liam had built a cabin a mile from the mine but she was still a saloon girl and he was still a miner. Turned out the rumor that Leah had denied at the saloon showdown had been true, she was with child again, so Jacob had taken on extra shifts in order to accommodate a second child. Things were changing everywhere, but for Charlie, they weren't good changes.
Edward, though he wasn't a bartender anymore, was working at the bar that night as Emmett had had a family emergency. Edward returning to the saloon had managed to fix their relationship. Charlie flagged down Irina for another drink.
"I'm afraid I can't do that Mister Swan," she said in her Russian accent.
He scowled, "why the hell not?"
"Mrs. Masen asked all of us not to serve you anymore." She replied.
He stood walking toward the bar leaving the waitress standing there shaking her head. The room was spinning a little but he managed to make it and told Jacob he wanted to talk to his son-in-law. Edward appeared but Charlie wasn't sure which one to yell at so he looked at the one in the middle.
"Who do you think you are to cut me off?" Charlie demanded.
"I didn't, your daughter did. But with good reason." Edward said.
He was joined by Bella who was glaring at her father, "Pa, go home. Sue has already sent Seth here looking for you. He's seating at the end of the bar waiting on you."
Charlie shook his head, "I'll leave when I'm ready. Now give me another drink!"
Edward had apparently walked around the bar and was at Charlie's side. He tried to lead Charlie toward the door, but Charlie turned away and found Seth at his other side. In an attempt to get away he threw a fist at Edward and hit in on his right cheek. Edward let out a curse and dodged the second swing managing to get both of Charlie's hands behind his back. Jasper was suddenly there and taking him to the jailhouse.
Sunlight poured through the window Charlie rolled over falling onto the floor hard. There was a laugh from close by. He lifted himself up looking around he was in a cell in the jailhouse. He'd know this place anywhere, though he'd never slept in a cell before. He stood up off the floor stretching. Jasper was leaning back in the desk chair feet on the desk, hat over his face.
"Whitlock! What is the meaning of this?" Charlie demanded.
Jasper moved the hat and opened one eye looking toward the cells, "ya took a swing at Masen last night, saw it myself. I had to bring ya in for disturbing the peace."
"Did I at least get a hit in?" Charlie asked.
"Yeah, he's got a shiner," Jasper said laughing.
"Good!" Charlie said nodding.
"You wouldn't be saying that if you'd seen the look on Bella's face when ya hit 'em," Jasper replied.
Charlie grimaced at that. It also crossed his mind at that moment how angry Sue was at him right now. As if he didn't have enough problems. At the moment Edward walked in, a bruise on his cheek and sporting a black eye. Charlie wanted to smirk but Bella was following behind him as were Sue and Seth. He looked down as his wife and stepson walked in.
Jasper stood then walking to the second cell, "get out of here," he said opening it. A tall Quileute walked out nodding to everyone before fleeing the jailhouse. "I'll leave you to it," Jasper said handing the cell keys to Sue as he walks out, leaving Charlie alone with his family.
"Damn 'em?" Charlie cursed.
"Pa!" Bella said glaring. "As if you haven't caused enough trouble!"
"Last time I checked I was the parent!" Charlie said to her.
"What was last night about?" Sue demanded getting down to business while trying to keep the peace between father and daughter.
"I spent a year trying to get Edward to take over the saloon and all Bella had to do was seduce 'em into it! You don't love me anymore, Sue. Seth doesn't need me… done went and fallen in love and didn't even tell me! I had to find out from Jacob!"
They all stared at him.
"Who told Jacob about Lauren?" Seth was the first to break the silence.
"Whose Lauren?" his mother demanded and he blushed looking down.
"I did not seduce Edward into anything!" Bella said offended speaking up.
"Well…" Edward trailed off. Bella smacked his shoulder glaring.
"Do you really think I don't love you?" Sue asked sadly.
"I don't know…Maybe?" Charlie whispered.
"We'll talk about it when we get home! For now, I have to have a talk with my son!" she grabbed Seth by the ear leading him out of the jailhouse.
"Look, Charlie, Bella didn't seduce me… not entirely, anyway," Edward said and she smacked him again. "I realized I was wrong quitting the saloon, I also realized I really didn't like being a lawman after all. The grass ain't always greener and all that, ya know. We're family and there being problems between us only hurts Bella and the kids and I don't want that. I know you don't want that."
Charlie was looking down at his feet hating that Edward was being the bigger person first, "You're right I don't want that. I'm sorry about the shiner, I hope it wasn't too awkward explaining that to the kids."
Edward snorted, "Little Ed wanted to know how he could get one!"
Charlie laughed shaking his head, "umm…do you two think you could chase down my wife for the key?" he asked and they laughed.
They left still laughing but they must have done as he asked as Sue walked back in a few minutes later. "I was going to save this talk for later but seeing how you're here and can't leave I might as well do it now."
Charlie sighed, he should've known this was coming, "okay."
"Charlie, I don't even know what made you think that I've changed my mind about you? It's only been a little over a year!" she says.
"The truth is I'm not sure at what point during mine and Renee's marriage that she stopped loving me, maybe it only took a year for her to change her mind!" he admitted looking anywhere but at her.
Her eyes were sad as she frowned, "I'm not her."
"I know that Sue, truly. But I… I don't… What if she was right? What if I am unlovable?" he asked still not looking at her.
"I love you. Seth loves you, you're the only father he's ever known. Bella loves you, Renesmee and Little Edward love you. Even Leah and Jacob Junior love you, hell I'm sure even Edward loves you a little bit." Sue says.
"I know…I'm sorry. I'm still figuring this whole relationship thing out, I kinda failed the first time." He finally looks at her and gives her a sad smile.
"I know," she smiles back, "but I won't let you fail this time." She leans forward kissing him through the bars of the cell.
"Do you think you could let me out now? Whitlock might want use to this cell again at some point." Charlie asks.
"I kinda like you this away, now we know where to put you the next time you forget how to communicate," Sue says laughing but she unlocks the cell. Charlie glares but says nothing fearing she'll lock it back before he can get out. "Come on let's go home, I'd like you to have a talk with our son about lying." With that, she led him home.
