Author's Note
So, after some votes, because I'm quite impatient, in both DeviantArt and , I have decided to do this. I hope you enjoy this! Note that this chapter takes place before My Hero Academia and after Brand New Animal.
In Anima City, there lived people known as Beastmen. Beastmen are capable of changing between human form and anthropomorphic animal form. This city has had many an incident where it used to thrive under one rule: The strong survive and the weak trample on the weaker.
However, ever since Michiru Kagemori, a tanuki-type Beastman, came to Anima City, this became less and less the case.
Michiru Kagemori used to be a human in a school for humans. However, an unfortunate incident turned her into a Beastman. After that, her parents, afraid of Michiru being discovered and killed for being a Beastman, locked her away in her room, still able to feed her. If not for the existence of Anima City, she would have lived in her room forever.
After making it to Anima City, Michiru was able to change that city for the better and change its laws. She had also met a detective law enforcer known as Shirou Ogami, a wolf-type Beastman that lived for a thousand years.
Her best friend, Nazuna Hiwatashi, a fox-type Beastman that was also originally a human, was also in Anima City. And after the Church of the Silver Wolf disbanded, the two began living as best friends, neither human nor Beastman, together in Anima City.
One day, however...
Michiru and Nazuna were eating outside a restaurant, chatting each other up. Michiru suddenly sees a lady with brown skin, a lab coat, and gray dreadlocks approaching them. "Oh! Ms. Itami!" Michiru called.
Ms. Itami, also known as Marie, is a Mink Beastman, but it's easy for people to mistake her for a weasel when she is in her mink form.
"Hey there, kiddos~ I've got something you might want to know about. Plus, it'll get you two an actual job." Marie told, showing a poster.
"What is it?" Nazuna asked, taking the poster. She and Michiru see the contents.
The poster shows a school and a large, muscley superhero. It reads: "Come to UA! Any upcoming heroes are welcome! Once you graduate, you are set for living the hero life, saving civilians, defeating villains, and making tons of money!"
"Sounds like a really dangerous job..." Michiru pointed out.
"But do you think the payoff is good enough for it?" Nazuna brought up.
"You're not thinking about going there, are you?"
"Come on, Michiru, think about it! It could be fun!"
"But I'm a pacifist!"
"You wouldn't have to necessarily beat up villains. I'll take care of that for you!"
"But what about your dream of being an idol?"
"This will be my side job!"
"You know, this is the first time I'm seeing you two argue." Marie told.
"I don't know if we should, Nazuna..." Michiru sighed.
"You'd better hurry and make a decision. I hear that it's going to be three days until initiation starts." Marie warned. "Besides, didn't you want to go back to school sometime?"
"...I... I do..." Michiru moped.
"Michiru. You don't have to if you don't want to." Nazuna assured, holding Michiru's hands. "It's just on the table for the time."
"Nazuna..." Michiru called before giving it a little thought. "Okay... I'll try my best to be the best hero and Beastman I can be."
"That's the spirit. Just in time, too. It'll take you a day to get to where UA is from Anima City." Marie said. "Might take longer to find where it is, too."
"Either way, thank you very much, Ms. Itami." Nazuna bowed before she and Michiru leave.
"You two have fun. I'll be rooting for you every step of the way~" Marie waved goodbye.
A day later, the two search where UA is located before finally finding it. "Here it is...!" Michiru marveled.
"It's gigantic..." Nazuna gasped. "Okay, Michiru. Once we sign, there's no going back. Let's do this." She held up a fist towards Michiru who nods and bumps it with her own fist. After that, the two sign for registration.
Two days pass while Michiru and Nazuna train themselves for the day they get to UA after they purchased a home to live in.
Nazuna and Michiru go down the road to the building of UA. "This is it... UA..." Nazuna declared. "Let's get to it."
"Right." Michiru nodded.
The two enter the building and see a man with sunglasses and a speaker-like metal collar. "What's up, UUA Candidates? Thanks for tuning into me, your school DJ! Cool! Now let me hear ya!" The man exclaimed, hand to his ear, he hears... silence. "Keeping it mellow, huh? That's fine, I'll skip straight to the main show. Let's get to how this practical exam's gonna go down, okay? ARE YOU READY!? Yeah!" He cheered, hearing silence again.
"Oh my goodness, it's the Voice Hero Present Mic!" The two girls heard a boy. "So cool!"
"Like your application says, today, you rocking boys and girls will be out there contesting two minute mock battles in super hip urban settings!" The man known as Present Mic declared, the screen showing some things. "After I drop the mic here, you'll head to your specified battle cities! Sound good?" He asked, earning even more silence. "Okay! Okay, okay! Let's check out your targets. There are three types of faux villains in every battle center. You'll earn points based on their level of difficulties, so better choose wisely! Your goal in this trial is to use your Quirks to raise your scores by shredding these faux villains like a wicked guitar solo!" He instructed. "But check it: make sure you're keeping things heroic! Attacking other heroes is a big UA no-no, ya dig?"
"Excuse me, sir, but I have a question!" A blue haired student with glasses exclaimed.
"Hit me!" Present Mic ordered.
"On the printout, you've listed four types of villains, not three. With all respect, if this is an error on official UUA materials, is this not shameful?" The student asked.
"Alright, Examinee Number 7111... Thanks for calling in with your request." Present Mic gave a thumbs up. "The fourth villain type is worth zero points! That guy's just an obstacle we'll be throwing in your way. There's one in every battle center. Think of them as a hurdle you should try to avoid." He said. "It's not that it can't be beaten, but there's... kinda no point."
"I get it!" A long blonde haired girl hollered.
"Do you really have to...?" A red haired girl in a cape groaned.
"I recommend my listeners try to avoid it and focus on ones popping the charts!" Present Mic instructed. The student bows.
"Thank you very much. Please continue." The student thanked before sitting down.
"That's all I've got for you today! I'll sign off with a little present. A sample of our school motto! As Napolean Boneparte once laid down, 'A true hero is one who overcomes life's misfortunes.' So, students... you ready to go beyond? Let's hear a Plus Ultra!" Present Mic exclaimed. "Good luck! Hope you practice more than hitting just books!"
'So all we've gotta do is destroy some faux villains that will get us some points? Sounds easy enough.' Michiru thought.
"We've got this one in the bag, don't we, Michiru?" Nazuna asked.
"We sure do, Nazuna~!" Michiru answered happily.
