Author's Note: Welcome to the main missions of my ND story.
After leaving prosperity Marcus and the Kids ran for a while till they stopped at an abandoned Barn. If they wanted to start fighting against the Highwaymen, they would need people to help build up Prosperity 'Specialists'. Kim said she knew of three people that could help get things started.
The captain pulled out the map that Kim gave him out of his bag, unfolded it and looked at it. Hunter and Carmina gathered around him to look at it. The Captain looked at the map for a moment before looking up at the teens.
"OK, according to the map that Kim gave me, there are 3 specialists near here. One is West of here and pretty close, his name is Bean, Kim said he can provide maps and Intel." He looked at the second one. "The next one is a woman named Selene. Kim told me she's a drifter who uses her medical knowledge to aid injured civilians. She has a wide knowledge of medicinal plants that could help us."
They both nodded in response.
"OK" Cap turned to the third location on the map."The third one, is Grace Armstrong."
Carmina then spoke up. "Auntie Grace."
The captain looked up from the map. "You know her?" He asked.
Carmina nodded. "Yeah she's the one who taught me how to use a gun, as years passed her health began failing, then eventually she became that did not stop her from fighting, however she's one of the only few people who are still brave enough to fight the Highwaymen."She informed "And before you ask no,we're not related Grace is just family to me." Carmina quickly said.
"We are also good friends with Selene, and I was a friend of Bean" Hunter said.
The captain put the map back in his bag and turned to Hunter and Carmina. "OK, This will go faster if we split up, but if y'all don't want to,I'll understand."
"What about you or either one of us? If we split up,who will watch our backs?" Hunter asked.
"Don't worry about me kids, I can handle myself perfectly fine. And what do you suggest?"
Hunter and Carmina looked at each other for a second then turned back to the Captain. "You're right about splitting up Marcus, it will speed things along, but me and Hunter are gonna stay together in case we run into any danger." Carmina said, grabbing Hunter's arm."Yeah we'll go get Grace. How about you get started on getting Selene or Bean." Hunter suggested.
"OK, I'll start with Bean. When or If you manage to convince Grace, then meet me at Bean's location." The captain instructed.
They both then started heading in their opposite directions.
Helping Grace
Carmina and Hunter arrived at the place that used to be one of the small towns that the scavengers built, until the Highwaymen came and took over it. They were a suitable distance away, but crouched down to avoid being spotted by the guard towers. Hunter pulled out a set of binoculars. "OK, lets see what we got here." Hunter said whispering to himself,as he looked through them and counted the number of guards.
"How many do you see?" Carmina asked, whispering.
Hunter put his binoculars back in his bag then turned to Carmina. "I count at least five total." He guessed.
"Do you see Grace anywhere?" Carmina asked.
Hunter shook his head in response."No, but she could be held prisoner there." he guessed.
"OK, What do we do?"
Hunter began pointing to the places he saw guards. "If we take out the guard on the roof of the barn, the other on the windmill, and that one ever there on that guard tower with lights. The rest will be easy to kill." Hunter whispered.
"You got your suppressor?" Hunter asked, eager to start killing.
Carmina nodded as she pulled out her pistol, attaching a suppressor to it.
"You go left, I go right." Carmina said confidently, raising her fist out to Hunter.
Hunter smiled, bumping her fist."Let's do this." He said confidently.
They got up and quietly moved down the hill, with Hunter moving to left and Carmina moving to the right. Hunter quietly climbed up to the roof of the barn using the ladder,as he climbed he saw Carmina quietly shoot the guard on the windmill. When he reached the top, he looked to see that the guards back was turned, he quietly climbed up, pulling out his knife as he slowly walked up to him. When he got close enough, he grabbed the guards mouth and plunged the knife deeply into his neck, after that he quietly put the body down. Hunter sheathed his knife and pulled out his bow. He aimed at the guard atop the tower right beside him and fired an arrow, hitting the guard clean through the eye. Hunter kneeled down and saw Carmina killing the last two Highwaymen. Carmina looked up at Hunter. "I think that's all of them" she said.
Hunter climbed down from the barn and walked up to her. "OK, now let's find grace." Hunter said
"No need, I'm right here." A voice said suddenly, they quickly raised their weapons at the person behind them, but when they saw that the person was Grace they lowered them. They looked at her for a second, surprised that she could still sneak up on them like that, despite being blind. However the looks on their face quickly turned happy at seeing Grace again.
"Carmina and Hunter, I should have known it was you two, y'all are like two peas in a pot." Grace stated.
"Oh my god, Grace." Carmina said as she and Hunter ran up to her, hugging her. Grace smiled as she wrapped one arm around Carmina and her other around Hunter.
"It's good to hear your voices again, kiddos," Grace said overjoyed, then broke the hug a few seconds later. "Now what are you two doing here?"Grace asked.
"We came to find you, prosperity needs your help." Hunter told Grace.
"Yeah, the captain and us are gathering people to help build up Prosperity so we can start fighting back." Carmina said.
Grace frowned. "I heard about what happened to the train. It's good to know that you both got out and that at least Rush's Captain made it out. It's about time people started stepping up to the plate. I'd love to help but I can't right now."She explained to them.
"Why?" Hunter and Carmina said in unison.
"I've learned that the Highwaymen have been hoarding the supplies they've been taking from us at the old train yard. I would attack it myself but I can't see shit and it's guarded." Grace explained.
Hunter and Carmina looked at each other with their eyes widened in surprise, Grace had just found the place where the Highwaymen had been taking all of the supplies they stole from Hope County, if they took that train yard the supplies there could really benefit Prosperity.
"Maybe we can help each other." Carmina suggested.
"What do you mean." Grace asked.
"We could take that outpost." Hunter suggested. Causing Grace to turn to him. "Kid I admire your bravery, but that place has too many men for just the two of you to handle,if y'all want to take that Rail yard you'll need help, and I can't help you with my eyes the way they are." Grace said.
Hunter and Carmina thought it over and decided to call the Captain, with all three of them together the could take the Rail yard and get those resources, but they should contact Kim first and tell her about this. Carmina pulled out her radio, pushed down the button and held the radio to her mouth. "Mom, it's me do you copy?"
Marcus just finished helping out Bean. He retrieve the business plan from the bunker, his associate said he hid it in and retrieved it. Bean seemed a little weird in his opinion, but he looked like a nice and very smart kid. He was just finishing up with him.
"Here you go Bean." Marcus said, handing him the Business Plan.
Bean took the business plan from Marcus's hand, he looked up at Marcus and smiled. "Thanks, I'd clap for joy, but my daddy always said that's for clowns and babies, and I'm neither." Bean said.
The captain nodded. "OK, you know setting up your... HQ at Prosperity will really help us out and I just helped you out,so what do you say?" Marcus offered.
"You got it, I'll start setting up shop there right now. I got scouts collecting hot tips, and I'll get maps again, and well, you'll see. With my business plan Wiki-bean-ia will go global." Bean said fast.
"Alright, I'll see you in Prosperity." Marcus said holding out a hand.
Bean shook his hand."OK, I gotta get going." Bean said as he left for Prosperity.
As soon as he was gone Marcus pulled out his radio to contact Kim. "Kim are you there?" Marcus asked.
Marcus waited for a moment then the radio crackled to life."Captain, I was just about to contact you is everything OK?"
"Yeah, I convinced Bean to join us, he's on his way to Prosperity right now."Marcus informed.
"That's good news, we rarely get that." Kim said then continued. "I just received a transmission from Carmina."
"What did they say?" Marcus asked.
"She said she and Hunter have found Grace, she told me that they found where the Highwaymen were hoarding all of the supplies they've stolen from us."
"Really?" Marcus said surprised.
"Yeah, meet up with them at that Rail Yard and get our supplies back." Kim instructed.
"OK, I'll head there right away." Marcus said. He grabbed a motorcycle that he took from the Highwaymen and drove to the train yard.
The Rail Yard
Marcus arrived at the Rail yard, the motorcycle allowed Marcus to get there faster, he got off and walked up to the vantage point where Hunter, Carmina and Grace were scouting the place.
"There you are Cap." Hunter said as he was looking through his binoculars.
Grace stood up and walked up to the captain."You must be the captain that I've heard about." she said holding a hand out to him
Marcus shook her hand."Thanks, you must be Grace Armstrong."
"In the flesh." Grace announced with her face quickly frowning."I'm sorry about what happened to Rush and your people."
"I appreciate that, but let's not worry about that right now." The captain said to Grace then walked up right beside Hunter and Carmina, crouching down. "So what are we looking at?" He asked.
Hunter handed him his binoculars, he took them and looked through them to inspect the rail yard.
"We counted over a dozen guards, maybe more, they're probably keeping a lot of our resources in those freight cars." Carmina pointed out.
Marcus gave Hunter back his binoculars then stood up,pulling out his rifle. There were too many to just take head on, but if they can distract them, they can launch a surprise attack on them. Marcus then turned to Hunter. "Hunter, can you sneak in there and cause a distraction?"Marcus asked.
Hunter nodded. "As Kim said.'I'm a good infiltrator' They won't even know I'm there until it's too late."Hunter stated confidently.
"OK" Marcus nodded then turned to Carmina. "Carmina, when Hunter gives us a signal, you're with me." She nodded in response,Marcus then turned back to Hunter.
"How long do you need?"Marcus asked. Hunter pulled out his knife and said."Maybe five or 6 minutes."
"I'll stay behind." Grace said."I won't be much use to you, given that I can't aim for shit."
Marcus nodded in response "Alright."
Hunter then quietly sneaked down to the Rail Yard. They waited a few minutes until they started hearing Gunshots,Hunter contacted them saying that he killed a couple of men and now he's surrounded. They ran down and launched their surprise attack. All three of them did pretty well fighting them, the captain was very resourceful and skilled,Carmina had good training and Hunter was a very skilled archer and a great knife fighter.
After some fighting they've killed all the Highwaymen guarding the Rail Yard and informed Kim about it. She said she'll send some people to retrieve the supplies and to sit tight till they get there.
Marcus reloaded his AK-47, he looked at Carmina who was eyeing Hunter as he lowered his hoodie and pulled off his mask. He saw Hunter pulling out his knife from a woman's chest and wiped the blood off with the leg of his jeans, when it was clean he put it back in his sheath then Marcus saw Carmina walking up right beside Hunter. Carmina looked to see three dead people that he killed right in front of him.
"You're good with that knife."Carmina complimented.
"Thanks," Hunter said appreciatively. He turned his head to Carmina."You're good with that gun" Hunter complimented back.
Carmina giggled in response."Thanks, we're making a good team."
Hunter nodded. "Yeah, we work well together." he pointed out.
Carmina nodded smiling. "Yeah" They both looked at each other for a moment then Hunter broke the staring and suggested getting to business.
Marcus, Hunter and Carmina were opening up the train cars, finding all their supplies. Among them were food, medicine, weapons, ammo and other things the Highwaymen have been stealing from Hope County. Grace thanked Marcus, along with Hunter and Carmina for helping getting these supplies back and she told them that she's heading for Prosperity. Grace couldn't fight but she could still train the people of Prosperity to fight against the Highwaymen. She then turned and left, Marcus and the teens alone.
As they were looking through the supplies Hunter opened one of the train cars and looked inside finding Building Materials. He whistled in amazement, he went inside seeing that there was so much. Marcus walked up right behind him. "Damn, look at all this, not that it will do us much good without Rush to help us."Hunter commented.
Rush was supposed to help build up Prosperity, but since he got captured by the twins they won't be able to upgrade the community. They can start building the facilities they need, but they won't be able to upgrade them.
"But we can still use these materials to help us get started on building the facilities we need." Marcus pointed out.
Hunter sighed and continued looking through the materials.
Carmina opened one of the freight cars, finding a stockpile of weapons and ammo. "Cap come here." She called out. Marcus walked up to her, looking inside the freight car seeing all the weapons inside. "Wow, look at all of this."
"I know, these weapons will really help our people in Prosperity fight back." Carmina said happily.
Eventually Kim's people arrived at the Rail yard, they started loading the supplies into their cars. They said they could handle things from here so the Cap and the Kids left, getting into one of the trucks the Highwaymen had there and drove off. Hunter and Carmina asked what's next, the captain thought it over, it was currently the afternoon and they still had time to get the third person Kim mentioned "Selene." They drove to the old Missile Silo where the map said she would be.
Selene
Marcus and the Teens arrived at the old Silo. They got out of the truck and walked up to it where they saw a woman looking down at the missile silo, with a weird hairstyle, wearing a ripped white coat,a blue knit shirt, shorts and a pair of boots. Who also appeared to be high, and also panicking. Carmina glanced at Marcus."That's Selene alright."
"High as ever," Hunter stated then chuckled.
Marcus nodded as they approached her. She turned to face them with a relieved look on her face.
"Oh my god, Killer and Queen,my dudes it's good to see you." Selene said as she hugged them, wrapping an arm around Hunter and another around Carmina.
"It's good to see you, Selene."Carmina said. She broke the hug and panicked again."My dudes I am in like the worst real-life come-down that's ever graced the freakin' planet right now."
"Which is?" Hunter asked.
"Y'all know I grow these herbs right?" Selene asked.
Hunter and Carmina both nodded aware of what Selene does.
Marcus watched as they talked, she explained how she was trekking around here and how she accidentally dropped her field kit into the hole right beside her. She explained that it had a years worth of home-grown stuff in there and how it's saved her multiple times, and she could re-cultivate it,but she said that kit was her lifeline and she probably wouldn't last the next month without it.
Marcus then cut in, walking right up to her. "I could get it for you." Marcus offered.
Selene didn't even notice him till just that moment."Uhh... who are you?"
Marcus introduced himself."I'm the captain, my name is Marcus." Selene then realized who he was."Oh, yeah I... uh heard... a little about you." Selene then went back to the point."Look just get me my kit and I'll keep you and your people in Prosperity ticking. So y'all can die from violence, like your god intended! Stead of,like, stepping on a nail." Selene offered. The captain wasn't sure how she could be an asset given that she's high on drugs and seems a little incompetent, but Kim said she was good and Kim seemed like a smart person so that was enough for him.
"Alright" Marcus nodded and turned to Hunter and Carmina."OK you two, stay up here in case anything happens." Marcus ordered. He removed his bag and anything else he didn't want to risk getting ruined by the water.
"OK" Carmina nodded
"Yeah" Hunter nodded.
Marcus walked up to the edge.
"Be careful!"Carmina said.
Marcus looked back at them "Don't worry, I will." He reassured them. He looked down at the bottom, seeing water below. He took a few breaths then jumped down into the silo. He climbed up from the water and climbed into the door into the Bunker, he kept his radio thankfully it was water-proof. He pulled out his pistol in case of running into anything like dangerous wildlife.
As he moved through the old bunker he had to kill snakes, alligators and wild dogs while listening to Selene's talking which annoyed him. He had to raise the water in the Bunker in order to get to her Kit and as he moved through the Bunker he noticed that people must have been living here, because of some notes he found, but he wondered how they could. This place looked really damaged and the water would make it really hard. He couldn't worry about that right now however he had to get the kit.
Eventually he raised the water high enough to reach Selene's Field Kit, he grabbed it, climbed out of the silo and walked up to them. He sighed in relief that he was finally out of there. Hunter handed him back his bag and other things. Marcus walked up to Selene handing her her field kit. "Here you go" He said, holding it out to her. She took it from his hands and hugged it tightly. "Oh my sweet baby spunk, we got it back. This'll make life so much easier. Now I can itch my bug bites and get em' infected without dropping dead a month later." She said.
Selene then looked up at the captain."Thank you. I'll start setting up my lab in your home-camp garden so I can boost your immune systems and get you feeling real good. Constitution and junk. I'll just set up my stuff there now, yeah? yeah I'm going now thanks." Selene thanked Marcus.
Marcus nodded."Your welcome."
Selene then left for Prosperity. As soon as she was gone Marcus pulled out his radio to contact Kim. "Kim you there?"
"Yeah I'm here, what is it?" Kim asked.
"We finished recruiting the last person on your map and it's getting late so we're gonna head back."Marcus said. He looked to the see that the sun was setting.
"Alright, and thank you for getting those supplies back." Kim thanked Marcus.
"You're welcome." Marcus put the radio back and turned to Hunter and Carmina. "Let's head back."
They nodded as they got into their truck and drove for Prosperity.
Prosperity
They arrived in Prosperity, as soon as they entered they saw that people were getting to work. With the resources they got from the Rail yard, people were beginning on building facilities for Prosperity. Grace was working on building her training course and weapon bench, Selene was working on the Infirmary and herb garden and Bean was working on his mapping facility. Marcus looked to see that the people's moods have improved, but only a little, he knew that things were improving but Prosperity was still way off from being able to stand against the twins and their goons. It was still nice to see that things are starting to change.
Kim walked up to them with a smile on her face."You all did well today, things are starting to get better."
"We've noticed." Carmina said as she looked around.
"Yeah,it's nice to see things are starting to change." Hunter nodded.
"This is just the beginning though, we're still a long way from challenging The Twins, there's much more work to do." Marcus stated.
Kim nodded."I know, but your actions are giving us hope. That's something we haven't had in a long time. We are all very grateful for your actions." Kim said to Marcus
"Come on,let's get y'all some food." Kim took us to the dining room where she prepared some food.
The Captain changed into some new clothes since his current ones were soaked by helping Selene. He put on a red t-shirt, a black jacket, black jeans and a pair of boots. He then joined everybody at the table.
Carmina sat by Hunter at the dinner table and the captain sat right in front of them. As they ate Carmina confessed to Marcus that one of the main reasons she wanted to find Rush was to get her dad back. She explained that the Highwaymen took him and she hasn't seen him in months and she and Kim wanted him home, she realized that they weren't the only people losing loved ones and it's one of the many reasons she won't stop fighting. Carmina's talk about Nick really seemed to depress Hunter, he then explained to the captain about Jerome, how he's the one who raised him and how he got captured by the Highwaymen. Marcus looked at them seeing sadness in their eyes, he felt bad for them, they only had each other and really wanted their loved ones back.
After Hunter and Carmina ate they left the table. Hunter walked up to the patio where he could get the best view of the community, he leaned on the edge looking around still seeing that people were working as best as they could. As he grew up he and his friends always worked hard to rebuild, but now everyone has to fight to protect everything they've worked so hard to build.
As much as Hunter wanted to fight, a part of him didn't want to do it alone. When they arrived in Prosperity with the Captain. Kim told him that Jerome was recently captured by the Highwaymen. As much as he wanted to cry about it he had to stay strong but he didn't know if he could. Jerome was the closest thing he had to a dad in his life and he was worried about what the Highwaymen would do to him. He wouldn't know what to do if he lost Jerome, he was always there for him when he needed him,but this time he's not so he has to push on without him for now.
Carmina then walked up to him, she leaned right beside him looking at the view. "It's a nice view." She commented.
"Yeah" Hunter nodded muttering.
Hunter then looked at Carmina."I miss him, Carmina."
"Me too, Jerome was a good man." Carmina said, trying to comfort Hunter by placing her hands on his shoulders.
"He's been more of a Dad to me more than I will ever know." Hunter said somberly.
"I miss my dad too,but right now we have to push on." Carmina said confidently trying to reassure Hunter.
Hunter smiled at her words, he and Carmina were always there for each other as they grew up.
Hunter then pulled in Carmina for a hug, he wrapped his arms around her,she wrapped her arms around him.
"Thanks." Hunter said
They hugged for a moment then Carmina broke it. "You're welcome." They looked at each other for a second then she placed a kiss on his cheek and walked off leaving him alone.
Hunter later turned in for the night.
Somewhere else in the valley the twins sat in a room going over some things until a guard came in.
"Mickey! Lou!" he said.
They looked up to face him "What is it?" Lou asked annoyed.
"One of our men reported that the Captain has looted the rail yard." He informed them.
Mickey and Lou's eyes widened in surprise and quickly turned to anger."WHAT?!" Mickey shouted.
"He's stealing the supplies we stole." Lou said.
The guard nodded. Lou then shot the man in the head and turned to her sister. "This Rabbit may be a problem soon."
Mickey nodded."Yeah and we better prepare."
