Bella:
I decided I wasn't going to go back to sleep or let my mind wander again. There was no need to make my brothers worry about me again. They worried about me for two hundred years before. I was a sight to behold back then. I killed wherever and whoever I wanted. I had no care in the world until my brothers found me. That is when I learned that Aro had a search party out for me and the unnecessary killings were an instant give away as to where I was. I fled California in 1919 after being there for fifty years. We landed in Mississippi.
Back to the present. It's my turn to drive. We stopped off somewhere in Virginia at a truck stop. The guys went inside to get some drinks and snacks while I stayed to pump the gas. I looked around the land, taking everything in. That's when a piece of paper appeared out of thin air. It fluttered to the ground. I knew who sent it without having to read it.
I bent over and picked it up. A smile lit my face.
Bella,
To your right.
Help her now.
Black SUV.
3 guys.
-Rose
I folded the paper and put it in my back pocket. I looked to my right and sure enough, I saw three guys escorting a lady to their vehicle. I moved at a fast human walk, hoping to get to her quickly.
The driver's door just shut as I made it to the truck. Luck was on my side because I was able to tap on the window before they took off. I could see through the tint on the windows and noticed one of the guys in the back next to the lady had a gun to her side.
The driver rolled the window down. "What?" He spit, smelling like he hadn't taken a shower in months.
"Hello. I have a flat tire and I was wondering if one of y'all could help me?" I say in my southern accent.
"No can do little lady. We have to get on the road. Find someone else." The passenger said.
I could hear whispering about how I would bring in a good amount of money for them. Ha.
The driver turned back to me. "Sure. We can help you real quick." He opened his door and started to get out along with the passenger.
"Really? Thanks. My car is over here." I pointed to a random car.
I could hear that my brothers were back at our car and I knew they would be looking for me soon. Not that I needed backup but human males were scared of Emmett.
We were about fifty feet from their truck when Emmett called my name. I stopped and turned to him. I gave him a look and pushed my emotions to Jasper knowing he would relay it to Emmett.
The two guys stopped and stared at them then back to me.
My eyes turned blue and I said, "Run."
They didn't need to be told twice. They turned to the direction of their truck and took off. Not that they will go anywhere.
"Jasper, get the girl from the truck. Em, come with me." I tell them as I use vampire speed to chase them.
The two runners change direction and head to the woods. Emmett and I beat them to it. Emmett's eyes and the skin around them are pitch black. Mine are blue with the skin around them black. Fangs out. Again my fangs are different from his. They are longer with a curve towards the end.
The guys stop. "What are you?"
Emmett lets out a small chuckle and replies, "Death."
The small chase was fun, kind of like the old days. We fed once we caught them. We made sure to leave no trace of what we are for the police to find. Jasper calmed the lady down using his power and stood with her while she gave her statement. Apparently, she was the ex to one of them. I don't know though since I stopped listening.
Once back in the car, the conversation started.
"What was that about Bells?" Asked Jasper from the backseat.
Emmett nodded from the passenger seat. "Yeah really? Why involve us? Not that I minded helping but we don't need to draw attention to ourselves, you know?"
I sighed because he was right. The last thing we needed was for Aro to find us. "I received a note while filling the car up." I said. Leaving one hand on the wheel, I used the other to grab the note from my pocket and handed it to Emmett.
"No shit, this is from Rosalie." He smiled. "But how did she know?"
Jasper laughed. "Who do you think Bells got to cloak Alice, Em?"
"WHAT?" He yelled.
"Bloody fuck Em, inside voice." I yelled at him. "We are in a small space with supernatural hearing. No need to be that loud."
"My bad. Sorry. I was just surprised that it was from her."
"We have kept in touch over the years. Yes I asked her to cloak Alice because Rose is the most powerful witch I know. Her magic isn't restricted so she can use it anywhere she is. Plus I know the two of them can take care of themselves plus each other." I told him and Jasper as well.
Emmett looked out the window for a while before he spoke. "How is she?"
I sighed because I knew deep down that my oaf of a brother loved that woman with everything in him and he would do whatever it took to take care of her. "She is good. At least the last time I spoke to her face to face, which I believe was like fifty years ago."
Emmett looked over at me. "I miss her."
"We all miss her Em as much as we miss Alice." Jasper said, leaning between the seats. "Our family will be whole soon."
"Now onto something happy. What kind of music do you want to listen to? We have a collection of stuff." I said.
It seemed jazz won. That was usually the genre we listened to on road trips. It was just something about that time period that was great.
The road continued to go on and on. It was like the never ending road. Why didn't we fly? It would have been easier. We had to stop to fill the tank several more times plus to stretch our legs. Not that we needed it but I like to be able to taste the weather.
I was once again back in the backseat. Emmett being as big as he is could only ride in the front if he wasn't driving. I didn't mind because I could lay down and read. However, I started to feel the familiar tingling sensation throughout my body. Fuck! I had been so occupied with finding Alice that I totally forgot it was a full moon tonight and yes while I can control my shift, I can not do it on a full moon.
"Fuck Jazz, I need you to pull over as soon as you can."
Emmett huffed and turned around. He was about to say something when he noticed the all too familiar tremors rocking through my body.
"I'll pull off at the same rest area. What's wrong?"
"Jazz man, she isn't going to make it to the next stop. She's about to shift."
"Shit. Hold on."
I'm not sure how he managed to get the truck to a complete stop as fast as he did. Emmett had my door open for me and was helping me out of the truck. They knew the drill by now. It has been happening every month for 800 years.
I ran at vamp speed to the tree line. Once I was in the cover of the trees, I began to strip from my clothes. They would get them for me. I dropped down to my hands and knees and waited. My bones started to crack as my body prepared for the changes. I didn't cry out because it never helped. The pain would get worse the more you fought against the change. It's easier to let it flow through you.
I watched my hands turn into paws as my body got shorter. I felt my tail move back and forth as I turned into a wolf. Bigger than an average wolf that is. All my vampire senses left me and I became a complete wolf.
The first thing I did was stretch. Ah that felt great. Now it was time to run. This was the best part of being a werewolf. The freedom.
My brothers found me. They liked to help me hunt. That is another natural thing for me to do. I preferred mountain lions or bears but it seems that deer would have to do it tonight. That is one of the things I always checked into before moving. The wildlife population. One has to be careful nowadays on where to hunt and how much to hunt. Wild animals aren't around as much as they used to be.
My brothers got great joy from watching me roll around on my back. That came naturally. Marking my scent. We ran for hours. It felt great to run like this with them again.
The sun was starting to rise. I watched it with my brothers. They stood to give me privacy to get dressed because with the sunrise, I would go back to myself. I joined them once I was dressed.
"Thanks guys. It's been a while since we did that. It felt great."
"Of course it was. Has there ever been a time when it wasn't great?" Asked Emmett.
Jasper laughed. "Duh Em, it wasn't that great when we ran from witch hunters after her first few shifts."
"Oh god, I had forgotten about that." Emmett replied.
"Come on. Let's get back to the truck. By the way, where the hell did you park?" I asked.
"We went to the rest area and ran to meet up with you. Come on, it's this way." Jasper answered.
Jasper slid back into the driver's seat as Emmett and I climbed in. It always felt great to shift and run but it almost always left me tired afterward, especially when I don't shift regularly. I laid down and felt my eyes close.
There you have it folks. Does that give you a clue to what Bella is? Let me hear your thoughts…
Until next time… Stay safe…
