Veers knew things were not going well the moment the power switched to emergency and his Lord came to collect him. The General of the 501st was at Vader's side as they headed to hangar bay 106-A3, as he wondered what was going on. As they entered the hallway that would fastrack them to the hangar, he finally asked the question to the supreme commander of the Military Forces of the Empire.
"What exactly happened, My Lord?"
Lord Vader was silent for several respirator cycles before he answered, clearly measuring his words, "We were surprised by the sister ships of the Manevelance, the Tyranny and Solitude. Both Subjugator-Class Heavy Cruisers, they ioned all the ships in the Death Fleet due to Admiral Ozzel's incompetence. However, the creator of the droids that ambushed us has given you and I an invitation to meet the maker of them."
His blood chilled at that as he realized what had happened, meaning that Ozzel was going to have his throat crushed by Vader once he got around to finishing off the man. They continued in silence for several minutes before they arrived at the hangar bay, finding an old Nu-Class Attack Shuttle waiting for them. It was modified to handle deployments under fire if the composite-beam laser turrets built into the wings were any indication, along with multiple smaller laser weapons on swiveling mounts.
"Impressive modifications," Vader rumbled as he looked over the shuttle as the front lowered, as the ramp of the shuttle was built facing forward instead of the cockpit jutting out over the ramp to protect it, "this engineer has clearly got some skill."
Veer's nodded, following his lord as two Death Troopers and four of the 501st followed after them. He hadn't noticed them form up behind them until he heard the garbled radio of the Death Trooper say something to Lord Vader.
"No, I suspect that the engineer will keep us from harm as long as we don't cause any issues in her workshop or the creations."
With that, it was silent during the trip as Veers looked at his datapad. Seemed like 'Droid Foundry Corp' released another video, so Veers put on the subtitles while muting the volume. The video was called "How to engineer your Base defenses so they don't suck", and Veers was treated to several mind blowing ideas before he pushed them to the side. Getting octuple barbette turbolaser batteries for base defenses would be pretty expensive for anyone other than the Empire, but also modifying Ion cannon batteries into high end snipers was another. He pulled up the specs on them from the website, noticing many inclusions that would easily help get the ion cannons of the fleet to be better at their jobs.
He was interrupted by the voice of the Supreme Commander, causing him to jump a bit in his seat, "You seem to have found something, General."
Veers nodded, "It was that new youholos channel I told you about, My Lord. They dropped a new video about base defenses, including having several octuple barbette turbolaser batteries becoming rapid firing anti-air weapons. Though, given the specifications of the base defenses, it would work for those in the outer rim to have these defenses if given the budget and clearance."
Vader was silent for several breathing cycles before speaking, "If this engineer is the same one that was able to get the Tyranny and Solitude in working condition, then I would hire her to be the head engineer of the Executor."
The general thought about that, given the young woman that ran the channel was working with old technology from the Clone Wars and scraps dumped on the Geonosian surface, that would be an upgrade indeed. However, he also saw the negative side of the credit. She could refuse and have the Death fleet destroyed to protect herself as no Imperial was crazy enough to get anywhere close to the planet that sparked the galactic wide war.
"What if we gave her an Executor-class ship to have her workshop on?" Veers asked, causing Vader to look at him.
"Continue with that thought, General," The monolith of black armorweave and durasteel said.
"Well," Veers spoke, letting his thoughts out, "if she did agree to this, I suspect she would want to have a workplace that would allow her to build and engineer without wasting resources on the Executor itself. A ship that can repair the fleet and upgrade it while also having its own weapons to give us superior cover if we are attacked or we go on the assault. Also, giving some consideration, she could work on the Executor while using the other ship to come up with new innovations."
Vader was silent before nodding, "The Kuat drive yards already have the body of another SSD constructed but have been waiting for my command on what to build the SSD as. A modified Executor class as an engineering warship would be a very good incentive for any aspiring engineer prodigy."
Veers nodded before the shuttle rumbled, entering its landing phase. He was surprised at how smooth the atmosphere reentry was before the ship settled down and the main ramp opened, showing the orange sandy land of Geonosis. Veers got up from his seat, waiting for Lord Vader to step off first to follow in his wake. All around them, the sounds of multiple droids filled the air as the noises of construction added themselves to the cacophony. The massive wheeled forms of modified IG-227 Hailfire-class droid tanks moved this way and that, massive limbs that were construction tools on them instead of the missile pods.
OG-9 homing spider droids with modified limbs were putting down beams for buildings that connected the landing pad to the massive foundry, welding the beams into place with surgical precision as BX-series Commando Droids were pouring concrete into place. Everything was working at an efficiency that would have made any Imperial Governor jealous, as the small group waited. Before them was something that made Veers heart stop, as the form of General Grievous stepped out of a dust cloud.
Except, it wasn't Grievous. It had the droid generals silhouette but that was it, as the white armored figure was followed by a squad of metal skeletons. The being that looked like Grievous looked like something Grievous would have looked like if the Jedi had a hand in building him, having the design similar to that of the clone armor during the war. However, his guards were the most unnerving thing. Walking in perfect synchronicity, the metal skeletons looked at them with glowing red eyes that were their photoreceptors. In their hands were huge boxy weapons that Veers was sure that no human could wield without hurting themselves.
The false Grievous stopped before Vader and looked him over before speaking, "I am Qu'ell, right hand of Engineer Jasmine Hel Potter. I see that S1-44r followed his orders, despite his arguments to the contrary."
Veers felt himself involuntarily swallow, as Lord Vader said, "Despite his arguments?"
Qu'ell nodded, "Indeed, Jasmine built his brain casing like that of a human and programmed it with the intent of a super tactical naval war genius. Including several parts of ancient HK model Assassin droids and Protocol Droids, you have a rather argumentative Commander that would rather obliterate the foe before it becomes a problem. However, his loyalty to Jasmine is airtight."
Qu'ell then motioned down the path he just came from, "Shall we go meet the engineer? We don't want to waste her time as she works on something exploding like her new artillery weapons platform."
Veers couldn't help but wonder why Jasmine was building so many weapons and droids when nobody came to this system. He could only wonder, as he suspected that she might have a healthy dose of Black Sun pirates. Better to be prepared than be wanting, he would say.
