A short chapter, but my favorite to write so far! I know that this song is from 1987, but it really is the perfect song for this particular moment. And the words are just great. Please just suspend your belief a little because it makes for such a beautiful scene, in my opinion, even though this takes place in august of '84. Also, Dirty Dancing is an amazing movie. Hope you enjoy this Chapter!
Sunday morning was always a big breakfast day. Harry had gone to wash up and Sirius and Lily were in the kitchen, cleaning up the aftermath that followed. The radio was on, playing top hits and Lily was humming along to the songs as she washed dishes. Sirius was sweeping up the dirt and grass that Charlie dragged in daily. "Hungry Eyes" started to play and Sirius looked at Lily's back as she started to sway to the song. Her deep red hair glittering in the morning sun coming through the window. He set the broom aside and pulled Lily to him and started to sway with her in his arms. Startled slightly and letting out a soft "oh!", Lily started to sway with him, looking up into his face, trying to avoid getting his shirt wet from her soapy hands.
I've been meanin' to tell you
I've got this feelin' that won't subside
He spun them around, an arm around her waist and one of her hands in his. She smiled up at him.
I look at you and I fantasize
He started to hum the tune as they continued to sway.
You're mine tonight
Now I've got you in my sights
He spun her around and she threw her head back and laughed.
With these hungry eyes
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
I feel the magic between you and I
He held her closer as they continued to slow dance, Sirius pressed his cheek against hers
I wanna hold you so hear me out
I wanna show you what love's all about
Darlin' tonight
His eyes met hers, his breath quickened at their closeness. His mind traveling a million miles a minute, wishing he knew what she was thinking.
Now I've got you in my sights
He spun her again and slowly pulled her back into his chest, his eyes half lidded, looking at her lips, wondering what they would taste like.
With these hungry eyes
His hands at her waist. She looks up at him through her lashes, a small dazed smile on her face, looking up at him curiously, her arms around his neck.
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
And suddenly, his lips were against hers. His stomach somersaulted.
I feel the magic between you and I
I've got hungry eyes
He broke off the kiss and pressed his forehead to hers as they continued to sway. Sirius closed his eyes as he noticed that hers were closed.
Now I've got you in my sights
With those hungry eyes
Now did I take you by surprise?
He looks her straight in the eyes then, and she breathes out heavily as she looks back into his dark brown eyes.
I need you to see
This love was meant to be
He held her even tighter, swaying to the song, still looking her in the eyes and then pressed his lips to hers again, briefly, but a longer kiss than the last. It sent electricity down his spine.
I've got hungry eyes
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
He swung his hips with hers, she looked at him, mesmerized, as they swayed to the music.
I feel the magic between you and I
I've got hungry eyes
He leaned in closer, their noses touching.
Now I've got you in my sights
With those hungry eyes
He closed his eyes and enjoyed the feel of her so close, his forehead to hers.
Did I take you by surprise?
With my hungry eyes
I feel hungry eyes
He leaned in and pressed his lips to hers again and extended the contact, really kissing her, his heart beating so fast he could hardly contain it. He deepened the kiss and she opened her mouth to him, her hands going up around the back of his neck and into his hair, rising up to the tips of her toes as he held her tight to his chest.
Now I've got you in my sights
With my hungry eyes
Got you in my sights
Hungry eyes
The spell was broken when Harry walked back into the kitchen and they split apart. Lily touching her lips with her fingers and Sirius breathing a little heavier than usual. Harry stared between the two of them, looking from one to the other. Then he looked out into the yard and exclaimed,
"Remus!"
The sliding glass door to the back yard slid open with Lily going back to the dishes and Sirius just stood with his back against the counter, his hands braced behind him as he took a steadying breath, his eyes slightly unfocused, as Remus walked into the house, smirking slightly but saying nothing accept hello to Harry as he launched himself into his arms. Then,
"Good morning. Beautiful day." He greeted Charlie as he came racing into the room, dragging a blanket behind him, his tail wagging furiously as he whined a little, his whole body wiggling. Remus took the blanket from the dog's mouth and placed it on the back of the chair as he scratched behind the excited dog's ears. He set Harry back on his feet, who promptly ran outside with the dog, and then walked over to the counter and grabbed a towel to start drying dishes. The music continued to play in the background. He didn't say anything for a moment, just silently dried dishes.
"Just thought I would pop by and see how things were going." He looked up at Sirius, his eyes filled with humor, then looked at Lily, not seeing the tense expressions on both their faces.
"Sirius, you have suds in your hair, by the way." When Sirius looked up at him, his eyes flashing with worry as he ran a hand through his hair, Remus went on. "Don't worry, I saw you groping each other through the window in the backyard. No need to be so awkward about it." He placed the dry plate into the cupboard and grabbed another to dry. "So, are we keeping this a secret and ignoring what I saw? Because I can do that, too. Or…" He smirked at the two of them. Then read the tension in the room fully. He dropped his gaze at seeing how tense Sirius was and the look on Lily's face as she stood with her hands in the dish water, staring at him with her mouth slightly open.
"What?" He asked, as he placed the plate in the cupboard. "What did I miss?" Lily looked over at Sirius, but Sirius kept his eyes on his feet, breathing slowly. "I think…. Maybe I stepped right into the middle…. I'm just…I'm gonna…. You know…." He dropped the towel on the counter, his voice fading at the end, and then walked out into the backyard again where Harry was playing with Charlie.
Lily grabbed the towel and dried her hands as she stepped closer to Sirius. The moment was gone. She felt the shift in the air as he took a step to the side, avoiding her gaze.
"Sirius, look at me, please?" When he didn't, she stepped towards him again, grabbing his shirt so he couldn't step away from her. "What's wrong?" She asked, still trying to make eye contact. Sirius shook his head.
"I'm sorry, Lily. I shouldn't have done that. I really shouldn't have." He finally looked at her and he saw the look in her eyes. The disbelief at what he was saying. She didn't respond with words, she just reached up and pressed her lips to his again, her hands balled into fists in his shirt. She pressed closer and he straightened up, removing his hands from the counter behind him and placed them on her shoulders instead. He pulled back and looked down at her green eyes, seeing that she wanted this too and a smile started to form at the edges of his lips. She returned it with a brilliant one. He had never felt this nervous about anyone in his life. He was about to grab her again and kiss her, hard, when he remembered that Remus was hanging around outside, probably watching. At the very least he was listening. He looked out the window over the sink and saw Remus quickly look away and pretend he was actually just watching Harry feed the dog a dandelion, hands in his pockets.
He backed Lily up to the other side of the window and kissed her again, her hands going to his elbows as she kissed him back, smiling.
"That's better." She whispered as he pulled away again. "Erm… maybe we should go and talk to Remus…" She reached up and stole another quick kiss before stepping out of his arms. She smiled a little shyly as she made her way to the glass door. "You coming?" Sirius was braced against the counter, he took a deep breath and nodded as he followed her out into the bright August morning.
