Chapter 4: The worst day ever
15 years since the rise of the empire
Lothal inside the Ghost
"I raise five credits," Zeb said as he put some chips on the pile in front of him
"I call," Jason responded placing the same amount of chips on the pile
"I fold, dammit I got shit," Sabine said as she threw the cards into the pile
"Okay, read them and weep it," Zeb said as he showed a trio of kings and put them into the pile
"Nice cards Zeb but not better than mine, now give me your credits," Jason said showing him a trio of Aces and Zeb cursed loudly
"God dammit," Zeb said as Jason grabbed the credits from the pile
"How are you so good at this?" Sabine asked Jason and the redhead just chuckle
"It's just a combination of luck and talking skill, easy peasy," Jason said as he counted the credits
Then they heard a door open, and the captain of the ship enter the dining area and noticed the chips on the table
"What are you guys doing?" Hera asked and Jason looked at her with a big cheeky smile on his face
"I'm cleaning these guys out of their money," Jason said and Sabine punched his shoulder "Wanna play with us, captain?" Jason asked and Hera looked at him with curiosity
"Sure, its been a while since I played," Hera said and took a seat next to Zeb and Sabine moved to sit next to Jason
"Okay, Sabine shuffle the cards," Jason said and Sabine started shuffling and giving each member their cards
"So, how's Ezra's training going?" Hera asked Jason and he just shrugged
"I don't really know, that's Kanan department, I just offer some advice from now and then," Jason said, "The one I'm really training is Kanan," Jason said as he took a look at his cards
"Ah yes, he told me you were training together," Hera said and Sabine chuckled
"More like beating the crap out of each other," Sabine said with a chuckle and received a shove from Jason
"What does she mean by that?" Hera asked in confusion
"We are testing our defenses, see where we can improve and what we can modify," Jason said as he ask for two cards and dropped two from his deck
"Seems like you're getting along," Zeb said with a laugh and Jason looked at him with a smirk
"Like you and Ezra?" Jason asked and Zeb grunted "I mean you two keep fighting and getting us into quite the adventures, is kind of funny," Jason said and Zeb grumbled
"Yeah, like the time me and Hera got stranded in that asteroid because you forgot to fix the phantom," Sabine said, and Zeb sighed in frustration
"I already told you I'm sorry," Zeb said and Sabine nodded
"And I forgave you, doesn't mean I won't tease you about it," Sabine said and raise five credits to which everyone did the same
"Where is the kid?" Zeb asked as he asked for two cards
"Training with Kanan, I'm surprised you're not there Jason," Hera said and Jason just laugh it off
"Ezra is in the early stages of his training, he needs someone with patience and wisdom to train him," Jason said, "And that's definitely not me," Jason remarked as he stared at his cards
"You should lend a hand once in a while," Hera said and Jason nodded
"Oh, I will. I'm going to teach him sword fighting once he's ready," Jason said as he raised 3 credits making Zeb fold in frustration
"Finally, I got something good, I call," Sabine said, and Jason chuckle
"You suppose to play it quietly love," Jason remarked making Sabine blush at that comment
"I raise 5 credits," Hera said, and Jason called her raise matching her credits and they turn to look at Sabine
"Dammit I got nothing I was bluffing," Sabine said folding her cards
"So, it's just the two of us captain," Jason said, and Hera smirked at him
"Indeed, we are, what are you going to do?" Hera asked with a smirk on her face
"Maybe we should raise the stakes, and play for something other than credits," Jason said while placing a hand on the credits
"What do you have in mind?" Hera asked in curiosity
"If I win, I get to fly the ghost for 10 minutes," Jason said and the other two looked at Hera waiting for her response
"I'm considering it, depends on what I get if I win," Hera said, and Jason looked at her smiling
"I'll owe you one, my contacts are yours to do as you please from now on then," Jason said and got Hera intrigued
"What's the difference from what you already do for the team?" Hera asked in curiosity
"I trade general information I find in chatters for the team to use, this will be information only for you, like a guy I know who can get you a ride in an old republican ship," Jason said and Hera smiled
"I'm in, I can't believe I get to fly an old republican ship," Hera said showing him a poker of Aces on her cards
Hera started grabbing the credits but stopped when she heard Jason chuckling "FYI just so you know, I don't know a guy who can get you an old republican ship," Jason said showing her a royal flush and grabbing the ships in front of the shocked captain
"Wow you are really good, can you tell me how you did that?" Sabine asked in amazement and Jason looked at her
"Maybe another time, can't reveal all of my secrets," Jason said as he finished grabbing the credits "Drinks are on me guys, to celebrate my win," Jason said and started exiting the ship
"Wait Jason let's talk about that deal!" Hera said chasing the redhead and being followed by Zeb and Sabine
Old Jho's pit shop sometime later
"One glass of whiskey please," Jason said throwing some credits at the bar stool and the Jho nodded as he started serving Jason
"What's the occasion?" Jho asked and Jason looked at the imperial announcement of the anniversary of Empire day
"To the republic," Jason said raising his glass and taking a sip of his glass while Jho let him celebrate quietly
Then Jason felt his senses flare up and glanced back as he saw several black troopers entering the bar and started scanning the people inside the shop
Jason saw Kanan and Ezra enter the shop and walk to where he was and leaned on the bar stool
The troopers glanced for a while at Zeb and Hera before they decided to get on with their mission and continue scanning the persons in the bar
"Keep your guard up Jason, in case of trouble," Kanan whispered and Jason nodded taking a sip of his drink
One of the troopers walked to the bar stool as the bartender put a drink in front of the trooper "The imperial broadcast should be played at all times," The trooper said pushing the glass away and almost hitting Jason with the drink
"No one has requested well ever," The bartender said and Jason could feel the glare of the trooper behind his helmet
"It's the law," The trooper said as the bartender sighed and put on the broadcast
Jason looked at the broadcast in annoyance as he gripped his cup hard trying to get control of his anger, this day just remained him of everything he lost
Suddenly the broadcast was cut off as Senator Gall Travis's image appeared on the screen and Jason narrowed his eyes the same feeling that told him that something was off with the senator came back as he listen to what Gall had to say
"Citizens, this is Senator-in-Exile Gall Travis bringing you more information the empire doesn't want you to hear," The broadcast said "I urge you to boycott all Empire Day celebrations to protest the ongoing injustices of the Imperial regime," Gall said but Jason didn't believe him, for some reason, his words seemed hollow
"Shut this off!" The trooper that had demanded that the broadcast be turned on ordered the bartender who just smirked and looked at the trooper
"I can't," The bartender said "It's the law," the bartender said and Jason hold back a snort
"We're done here," The trooper said slapping his hand on the counter and walking away toward their ships
"Bastard almost spilled my pants," Jason mumbled as Sabine place herself next to him and chuckled as the bartender turn off the broadcast
"We wouldn't want that, do we?" Sabine said looking at him with a smirk on her face and his nose scrunching mocking her as she shook her head and shoved his arm playfully
"TIE pilots on search patrol?" Kanan asked the bartender while Jason and Sabine kept playing with one another "What's going on?" Kanan asked in concern
"Imperials have locked down the ports and put destroyers in orbit," The bartender said "It's a full planetary blockade," The bartender said and Kanan look back
"They're after a Rodian," Kanan said looking at the person who the troopers had scanned
"Just be glad they aren't after us for once," Sabine said looking at Kanan as Jason looked at their boss
"Although it's getting kind of boring," Jason said playing with his cup
"Well with what we have planned for the parade, they'll be after us tomorrow," Kanan said and then smirked at Jason "And things will be pretty fun," Kanan said and Jason snorted
"You're old, like really old," Jason said and Sabine chuckled when she saw the betrayed face of Kanan
"Well you'll have to do it without me," Ezra said heading out of the bar
"Hey, where are you going?" Kanan asked in concern
"I just need to be alone," Ezra said looking back at the team "Today just brought back bad memories," He said exiting the bar
"Ah teenage angst," Jason said looking at where Ezra wander off "What a wonderful thing to see," Jason said chuckling but stopped when Sabine slapped the back of his head
"Be nice," She said and Jason rubbed the back of his head
"Sorry, this day tends to bring out the worst in me," Jason said as he looked around "Hey, five cups of the strongest thing you have, bring it to our booth there," Jason said placing some credits on the table "Here's some extra, for your troubles, and your discretion," Jason said as the bartender nodded taking the credits as the crew went to the booth
Hera sat in the middle of the booth with Sabine and Zeb on each of her sides, Kanan took a seat next to the Lasat and Jason took a seat next to the Mandalorian girl placing his arm on the couch behind her and keeping a watchful eye "So, the plan lay it on me," Jason said to Kanan and the older Jedi looked around
"You sure about doing this here?" Zeb asked and Jason nodded
"Don't worry too much, you'll be surprised what kind of deals happen in bars like this," Jason said as the bartender brought five medium glasses with an orange-red liquid inside of them
"Whiskey, from Jabba's personal stash, strongest thing I have," The bartender said and Jason nodded
"Thanks, chief," Jason said passing the cups along and taking a sip of his own cup "Oh yeah that's smooth," Jason said as the rest of them took a sip of their own drinks
"Okay, plans simple, we'll cause a distraction for me to go and place explosives on the new ship they're presenting, we blow it up and then we leave quiet and peacefully," Kanan said as Jason leaned back
"So, distraction, destruction, and extraction," Jason said musing out loud as the rest of the team nodded "I'm guessing Sabine is in charge of the distraction?" Jason said and Kanan nodded "And you're in charge of the destruction meaning Hera is in charge of extraction," Jason said mussing out loud
"Yep that was the plan," Hera said and Jason nodded
"I think Zeb should stick with you," Jason said looking at Hera "With the orbital blockade and the extra security, we can't risk them finding where the ship is, so he should be with you as extra protection," Jason said and Zeb nodded
"Kid is right, we can't get too cocky," Zeb said and Hera nodded in understanding
"And where you'll be?" Kanan asked and Jason smirked placing a hand on top of Sabine's head
"I got to make sure our weapon expert here doesn't take it too far," Jason said ruffling Sabine's hair until she swatted his hand away
"Then we have our plan, let's get going people," Kanan said but Jason put his hand up stopping him from getting up
"Actually I have one more concern, but it has nothing to do with the mission of today," Jason said crossing his arms and turning serious in a blink of an eye "Senator Gall Travis, what do we know about him?" Jason asked looking at Hera
"Just the basics, Senator who worked for the empire until he had to go into exile because he started to expose certain things from the empire," Hera said and Jason looked at his glass with narrowed eyes
"When we heard about Master Luminara, you said he's the only Senator with the courage to speak about the empire right?" Jason asked rhetorically and Hera nodded "Doesn't that seem weird to you?" Jason asked the team who looked at each other in confusion
"Not exactly," Zeb said in confusion and Sabine looked at Jason with worry in her eyes
"Jason, what are you implying?" Sabine asked putting a hand on his shoulder
"I'm a cynical person, I am since I was four, you have to be when the men that swore to fight on our side, turn their back on us, and slaughter as all lead by one of our own," Jason said playing with his glass "A lot of people, hell even civilizations have died because they stood against the empire, so why do they have such a problem in handling one man, who says he's in exile?" Jason asked sarcastically
"Maybe he's just that good at escaping," Hera offered weakly and Jason nodded
"Look, I'm all for believing in goodness and all that crap," Jason said and Sabine snorted "But look at the facts, not even the best Senators like Organa or Mom Mothma speak out like that, they stay low and debate on the Senate, senators are in charge of a whole planet, disagree with them publicly," Jason said moving his hand back and forth
"And they disappear from the planet," Zeb said and Jason looked at him in sympathy
"Yep, and the last civilization to be wiped out like that were the Lasats sorry buddy," Jason said and Zeb shook his head telling him not to worry "The only ones that are in open conflict with the Empire are the Wookies in Kashyyyk with the help of Saw Guerrera and his crew of misfits," Jason said "A Senator wouldn't be dumb enough to put his whole planet in jeopardy unless the situation calls for it," Jason said taking a sip from his cup
"It sounds real, but maybe he just had enough of the empire and took a stance," Kanan said and Jason nodded
"Yeah fair, let's say he's brave, and he really wants to stick it to the empire, fine, he's a great guy who pisses rainbows and shits marshmallows," Jason said and the crew chuckled at his comments "But then there's Master Luminara's situation," Jason said leaning back
"The inquisitor said, she's dead but she helps the empire by luring Jedis to their deaths, so my question is, did we had any other information other than the one that we got from Travis?" Jason asked and the crew remain silent
"I mean, of course, the information he gets, wherever the hell that may be, could be faulty but then why hasn't he stopped giving that faulty information?" Jason said as he pinched his nose in annoyance "And that's my point, the more I think about it, the more I feel like something is off with that guy," Jason said and Hera nodded
"I see what you mean, you want to believe in the guy but you don't want to trust him that easily," Hera said and Jason nodded "So, why did you bring this to the team, especially now that Ezra is not here?" Hera asked in curiosity knowing where Jason wanted to go
"Because if I'm right and he's shady, we need to do something about him," Jason said and looked at the crew "We cannot allow him to keep giving false information to other rebellion cells, so the question is, what?" Jason said
"You want to kill him don't you?" Hera said as the rest of the crew's eyes winded "That's why Ezra isn't here," Hera said and Jason nodded
"I mean, I wanted to discuss the possibility, but I don't have a plan in mind," Jason said and took a sip of his drink
"I mean we cannot do that, that would make us like the empire," Zeb said and Jason nodded in understanding
"Well I kind of get where Jason's coming from, sometimes you have to do everything to stop people from hurting others, and sometimes killing them is the only way to stop them," Sabine said and Jason put a hand on her shoulder to comfort her as he knew she was talking from experience
"That's a possibility, but I have a better one," Hera said and Jason looked at her in curiosity "We make him a real rebel," Hera said smiling and Jason chuckled
"We threaten him huh?" Jason said smirking and Hera nodded "What do you think boss? You've been awfully quiet," Jason said and Kanan grabbed his chin and beard
"We'll go with Hera's plan, for now, we stay clear of any information that Senator gives out, and Jason," Kanan said as Jason perked up and looked at him "Try to dig some dirt on him, see what can we do to make him bend to our will, but," Kanan said as he looked at the group "If he doesn't want to, if he tries to keep doing it, then we'll have no other choice," Kanan said and Zeb's eyes winded
"Kanan you can't be serious," Zeb said and Kanan sighed
"Back in the day, it was easy, we fought droids and generals took care of major separatists, but master taught me something when I ask her the same question we are discussing, especially with our ideology of every life being connected to one another," Kanan said as he took a sip of his drink "Sometimes there's going to be enemies that won't stop doing awful things, we can try and stop them but sometimes, we have to make sure they don't do more damage," Kanan said and Zeb grumbled and Jason looked at him in sympathy
"Hey, I know what you're thinking, you're a warrior, killing in cold blood is not on your code, I get that," Jason said and Zeb looked at him "But we are at war, the quicker we understand that the better, we will be tested and we will do things that no normal citizen should, for a better future, for freedom," Jason said putting his glass forward
"For freedom," Zeb repeated back as the crew touch glasses together and took a big sip finishing their drinks
Sometime later minutes before the parade starts
"Hey, can I ask you a question?" Sabine asked as she and Jason were hanging in a deserted alley, she was leaning on a wall and Jason was leaning next to her on the same wall
"You can always ask me anything Sabine," Jason said turning to look at her
"When you joined us you told us you mostly do rescuing and retrieving jobs, were you lying about that?" Sabine said and Jason looked forward and sighed
"I wasn't but that doesn't mean I didn't do execution contracts, they were mostly scumbags, criminals, or mafia lords, but I'm still not proud of it, so I tend to not say it," Jason said, and then felt Sabine grab a hold of his right hand with her own
"Hey look at me," Sabine said as Jason turn his face to look at her, she wasn't wearing her helmet as she had placed it on the ground next to her, she put her free hand on his cheek and started moving her thumb alongside his cheek in comfort "Look Jay, this is a cruel world, me and you know that to survive we had to do things that we aren't proud of, that's why we are here, to make sure other people won't have to go through that," Sabine said and Jason smiled
"You're right, sorry for getting sentimental," Jason said squeezing her hand
"Hey, that's what friends are for," Sabine said staying in the same position
"Yeah, I don't like that, I'm changing that sooner or later, preferably sooner," Jason said and Sabine narrowed her eyes
"You don't want to be my friend?" Sabine asked her voice betraying a little of how that hurt her but Jason sensing that acted quickly grabbing her by the waist and bringing her closer to him
"I don't want to be your friend, I want to be something more," Jason whispered close to her face "So I ask you, do you have a problem with that? If you do I can back off, but if you don't," Jason said leaning closer to her
"Ah well," Sabine said nervously but looking straight into his eyes "I don't mind, but aren't you moving a little too fast?" Sabine asked and Jason chuckled as he put his hand on her cheek and started caressing it just like she did
"We live in a world that took our freedom away and a world where we could lose everything in a blink of an eye, I refuse to live in fear and I will always move to get what I want, and I want you, so I won't wait, because I know that tomorrow may not come, so I have to live as this is my last day," Jason said leaning a bit closer their lips almost touching "The question is Sabine of clan Wren, do you want this? And are you willing to go for it?" Jason asked as Sabine moved her hand to the back of Jason's neck
"I do, I'm kidding myself saying that there's nothing between the two of us, but living in the way we live, it may be difficult to have a relationship," Sabine said and Jason smirked again
"Nothing worth fighting for is easy, and if we decide to give it a shot, know for a fact that we will walk this path together," Jason said and Sabine smiled
"Good, then we are on the same page then, so I won't regret doing this," Sabine said lunging forward and kissing Jason on his lips
They hugged each other tightly as they kissed each other and explore each other's mouths, the kiss lasted about thirty and forty seconds before they had to separate
They looked at each other and smiled as they leaned forward again to kiss again but the coms went off and they quickly stop their actions
Jason grumbled before picking up the coms device making Sabine silently chuckle at his annoyance so she punch his arm slightly to make him stop and listen to orders
"Okay people," Kanan said as Sabine put her helmet on "Let's start the celebration," Kanan said over the coms
"Copy that," Sabine said as Jason placed the coms device in front of her "Commencing festivities," She said cheekily and Jason chuckled before ending the convo
"We will finish what we started later, okay?" Jason said looking at her with desire
"Oh I'm sure we will, looking forward to it," Sabine said taking out an explosive and turning it on before throwing it at Jason
"Uh, please tell me you aren't planning on blowing your boyfriend up," Jason said looking at the explosive
"Huh, boyfriend? Never thought I would have one," Sabine said musing out loud "Don't worry I won't blow you up unless you cheat on me," Sabine said and Jason chuckled nervously "Just throw it as high as you can when I say now," Sabine said and Jason nodded
Jason stared at the device that started beeping rapidly waiting for Sabine's signal "Uh love? Do I throw it now?" Jason asked as the beeping increased
"Wait," Sabine said as the beeping increased more "Okay now!" Sabine said as Jason throw the device into the sky and fireworks started to appear from it
"You never cease to impress me, my love," Jason said looking at the fireworks in amazement
"Thank you, but stop making me blush, we have a job to do," Sabine said and Jason chuckled
"Fair enough," Jason said as she throw him another device, he glanced at it and then smirk, "I think I have a better idea for this one," Jason said as Sabine looked at him in curiosity
He levitated the device using The Force and float it toward the sky and maintain it there for a moment until the device blow up and more fireworks appeared
"Show off," Sabine said as both teens walked forward and placed their attentions on the new empire ship
"And now for the big finale," Jason said as they smirked when they saw the ship exploding and going into flames
Jason and Sabine fist-bumped as they chuckled for a job well done "Well then, I suppose is time to run, don't you think?" Jason asked with a smirk on his face
"I suppose you're right," Sabine said starting to run away as Jason trailed behind her
They met with Ezra and Kanan in the hallway and Jason smirked seeing the younger kid "Nice of you to join us kid," Jason said as the group started running away
"Hey, where were you?" Sabine asked in curiosity and Ezra smirked at her
"Why did you miss me?" Ezra asked cheekily and Sabine scoffed
"Well now I don't," She said and Jason chuckled at the duo but then he felt a familiar darkness behind him
He turn around and saw the Grand Inquisitor staring at him, Jason smirked and blow a kiss to him as the group started to run away from the scene
"Specter-2 we're on route for the rendezvous," Kanan said as they kept running away
"Negative Specter-1, the streets are blocked," Hera's voice said over the coms and Kanan grumbled "I cannot, repeat, I cannot reach rendezvous," Hera said and Jason sighed
"Great, anyone else has any bright ideas?" Jason asked the group as they stopped in an alley
"I know a place we can use to lay low," Ezra said as he looked around "Follow me," he said as he lead them into a vent entrance
Ezra crouched and took out the vent gate and entered it and Jason smirked at Sabine "Ladies first," Jason said and Sabine leaned and whisper something to him
"You just want to look at my ass," Sabine said entering the vent and noticing Jason didn't deny her comments
Jason entered behind her followed by Kanan who closed the vent behind him
They followed Ezra through the ventilation system until the young kid stopped and looked around for imperial troopers
He saw none and exited the vent as he walked slowly to an abandoned house followed by the rest of the crew
"That's an imperial warning, declaring this building off limits," Sabine said in surprise as she looked at the imperial graffiti
"This place has a weird feeling to it," Jason said looking around the building
"You were coming here today, this is your home, where you grew up," Kanan said speaking to Ezra, the kid looked back at Kanan with sadness in his eyes
"I grew up on the streets, alone," Ezra said as he opened the doors and led them inside
"Then why here? Why now?" Sabine asked as the other three males explore the house
Jason grabbed some kitchen utensils that were lying on the sink and focused on the memories that were attached to the objects
"We have to, for Ezra's sake, we cannot bow our heads to the empire," Jason heard a male voice on his head as he dropped down the utensils and look at Ezra who was moving a table around to reveal an underground entrance
"Tseebo it's me, Ezra Bridger," Ezra said as a green Rodian climbed up from the underground bunker
He looked at Ezra for a moment before the device on the Rodian's neck beeped and he perk up and started saying something in his native language and walking to the window hitting his head with the wall
"That's the Rodian that the empire is looking for," Kanan said looking at Ezra in surprise "You know him?" Kanan asked in shock
"Name's Tseebo, a friend of my parents," Ezra said taking a seat on the couch "But somethings wrong, what's the thing on his head?" He asked as Jason and Sabine walked to the Rodian
"Look at that beauty, haven't seen one in ages," Jason said grabbing the sides of the Rodian's head and checking the device on his head
"Empire's been known to implant lower-level technicians with cybernetic circuits," Sabine said as she stared at the device of the Rodian "Personality sacrificed for productivity," Sabine said
"In simple terms, it makes his mind a storage unit," Jason said letting go of the Rodian
"Tseebo's productivity is 19% percent higher than the average Imperial data worker," Tseebo said and Jason's eyes winded
"Tseebo went to work for the Imperial information office after the Empire took my parents away," Ezra said and Jason grabbed his chin in deep thought
"The information this one has in his head could be a gold mine, there's no way in hell the Empire would put the planet on lockdown unless it's sensitive information," Jason said looking at the device "You're more familiar with it, think you can crack it?" Jason asked Sabine who nodded
"You're parents, you never told us," Kanan asked as he approach Ezra
"What's to tell, they've been gone for eight years," Ezra said as he stood up from the couch "I've been on my own since I was seven," Ezra said
"Seven, Imperial…" Tseebo started saying and then witch to his native tongue as Kanan looked at Sabine in confusion
"What's he saying?" Kanan asked as Sabine stared at the Rodian
"He's detailing Imperial fighter deployments on Lothal," Sabine said and looked at Jason smirking "You were right, this could be a freaking gold mine," Sabine said as she started working on the device on the Rodian
"Ezra, are you okay?" Kanan asked in concern as Ezra scoffed
"I'm fine," Ezra said dropping down into the underground base
"Leave him be Kanan," Jason said stopping Kanan from speaking whatever he wanted to say "I sense a disturbance in his mind, he needs some time alone," Jason said and then the Rodian started speaking
"Ezra Bridger, son of Ephraim and Mira Bridger," Tseebo said and Jason's eyes winded as he recognized those names "Born 15 years ago today," Tseebo said and Sabine stopped what she was doing and gasp in surprise
"Empire Day, it's Ezra's birthday," Sabine said as Jason rubbed his face
"Let me talk to him, I knew who their parents were," Jason said as Kanan nodded, he shared a look with Sabine easing her concern before dropping down
He saw Ezra staring at a disk with intent and raised an eyebrow "Oh wow you're an empath, that's rare," Jason said bringing Ezra out of his thinking
"What?" Ezra asked in confusion staring at Jason
"You heard voices right? When you were holding the disk," Jason said pointing at the disk
"Oh yeah, how did?" Ezra asked in confusion and Jason smirked
"Ah, takes one to know one," Jason said chuckling "Some objects, depending on how close they were to the person, can hold memories from their owner," Jason said and he took out his lightsaber and handed him to Ezra "Here hold on to it, and focus, what does its history tell you?" Jason said as Ezra grabbed the lightsaber
Ezra closed his eyes and let the force course through his mind "I feel cold, like freezing, someone is giggling, no two people a male and a female," Ezra said and Jason smiled sadly "Now I feel warm and concerned, my master is dying and there's nothing I can do about it, I feel your resolve, to protect those who matter to you," Ezra said and Jason smiled before taking the lightsaber away from Ezra
"How did it feel?" Jason asked as Ezra opened his eyes
"I felt like I was there beside you like I was living your memories," Ezra said and Jason nodded
"My lightsaber is more powerful than the regular objects because it has a kyber crystal that channels the force so that's why it felt more real," Jason said and then smiled sadly at Ezra
"I knew you're parents, well, not in person, but I knew of their work," Jason said and Ezra looked down "After what happened at Coruscant, well I had my master to lift me up, but they were days where I did question my resolve, then we started to hear your parents broadcasts, and that kept us going, knowing that normal citizens had the balls to rise up to injustice," Jason said and Ezra just kept looking down
"I would've preferred if they stayed with me," Ezra said and Jason nodded
"It's fair to feel that way Ezra, but trust me, your parents would've been proud of the person you have become, I'm certain of it," Jason said putting a hand on the kid's shoulder
"Hey, guys!" Sabine said from upstairs "You should come to see this!" She said and Ezra quickly escape from Jason's grasp and quickly climb up
Jason sighed and looked back at the disk, he grabbed it and placed it in his pocket before climbing up to meet the rest of the crew
Sabine punch some buttons on her arm pad as the device from Tseebo activated and a hologram appeared in front of them
"What are we looking at?" Kanan asked as they looked at the hologram
"Well it's everything," Sabine said looking at the hologram in amazement "Imperial specs on the new TIEs and new T-8 disruptors," Sabine said "Schedules of troop movements tactics and strategies," She said as Jason took over
"Half of it is encrypted, if I had the proper tools and time I could de-encrypted it but I think we should take him to Hera first, he's more valuable to other certain important people, and the money we could make out of him," Jason said smirking and Kanan chuckled
"We need to smuggle him out of world," Kanan said and Sabine scoffed
"Need to smuggle him out of town first," Sabine said as she put a hand on her chin "The only reason they haven't caught him yet it's that they're busy with Empire day, but the day is almost done," She said as they saw Tseebo hitting his head with the wall
"This is going to be a pain in the ass, isn't it?" Jason asked the group internally groaning as the others sighed and nodded
The group quickly exited the house and silently walked through the streets "I see our getaway vehicle," Jason said as the group saw a cargo ship next to group "I'll take the one on the right," Jason said to Sabine who nodded as they waited for the ones in the bikes to leave
They saw them leave and Sabine quickly took out her weapons but Jason put a hand in front of her "Hold up, let me try something," Jason said as he push his hand forward in a quick swift motion and freeze them in time the as they became things in slow motion
Jason send a nod to Sabine as he quickly ran forward and grabbed the back of the head of the trooper on the right and push him down knocking him out cold and hearing how Sabine's blaster connected to the one in the left
"What was that?" Sabine asked in curiosity
"You'd be surprised by the things a force user can do," Jason said smirking as Kanan walked to the cargo ship and knocked on the door
A trooper came out and Kanan knocked him out as the crew made sure that Tseebo entered the cargo ship, then they entered after him and Sabine and Kanan quickly took a seat on the pilot's seats
They drove into an Empire blockade and Jason chuckled as he saw the scene "Is that what they are using to stop us? How pathetic," Jason said as he put his hand forward
"Oh, Jay what are you doing?" Sabine asked in curiosity as she kept driving forward
"Trust me love, and just keep driving," Jason said and Sabine nodded, he placed his palm facing the roof and closed his eyes as he concentrated, he started lifting his hand up as the whole empire blockaded started levitating
Jason frowned as he was struggling to lift the cargo ship and the AT-STs so he took a deep breath and push forward as the machinery lift up creating a path for Sabine to maneuver on
They pass the blockade as Jason let go of his control the machinery behind them feel to the ground and exploded
"How the hell did you do that?" Ezra asked in surprise as Jason caught his breath again
"I trusted in the force," Jason said simply as he looked at the scanners "Great now were being followed," Jason said as he saw the door of their cargo ship explode
Ezra walked to the open door to see what had happened and then he fell back when a trooper kick him and enter the cargo ship
The trooper stopped and looked at Tseebo "The Rodian," the trooper said in shock and that distraction was all Jason needed as he put his lightsaber on the trooper's chest and lit it up stabbing the chest of the trooper, he look behind the trooper and saw another one on a bike
He pushes the dead trooper's body with the force into the trooper on the bike making him crash "You alright?" Jason asked Ezra who started to stand up
"Yeah I'm fine," Ezra said as the cargo ship behind them crash into them
"I'm going up, have a feeling I'm going to be needed there," Jason said walking to the open space where the door was and quickly climbing to the roof of the cargo ship
Jason stood in the middle of the roof as he saw agent Kallus climbing on his shuttle, Jason glared at him as he lit his own lightsaber and took a stance putting the lightsaber sideways and his unoccupied hand and pointing two fingers at Kallus
Agent Kallus glared at him as he turn his weapon on and jumped to the cargo ship where Jason was and didn't waste any time and took a swing forward
Jason blocked the strike as the two of them got into a stalemate "Tell me Lasat slayer, do you even have an inch of remorse for the people you slaughter?" Jason asked as the agent glared at him
"They went against the empire, they gave us no choice," Kallus said and Jason narrowed his eyes
"There's always a choice, you just took the easy one," Jason said as he leaned back and took a strike forward
They both traded blocks and strikes for a while until the Ghost appeared on the scene making Kallus get distracted a thing Jason took advantage of "Rule number one agent, don't get distracted," Jason said as he cut the shoulder of the agent and force pushed him into the edge of the ship
Jason saw how the Ghost shot down the cargo ship that was following them as the ship placed itself on top of the cargo ship for the crew to get in
Jason entered first as he helped Ezra with the Rodian, the crew entered the ship as agent Kallus got up and started shooting at Kanan
"Go! Go!" Kanan said as he deflected the blasts of Kallus as the ship lift itself, Kanan jumped and landed gracefully on the ramp as the gate closed and the ship started flying away
"Go man the guns, now!" Hera ordered from the coms as Kanan and Jason ran to the artillery guns of the ship respectively
The ship rocked as they were hit on the back of the ship and Jason tumbled forward hitting his head with the ship, he quickly got up and touched his head and noticed he had cut himself
"Great, just my luck," Jason said as he kept running and found Chopper laying on the ground "Oh fuck, we will take of you buddy," Jason said as he heard Hera's voice on the coms
"Chopper, I'm rolling us starboard, be ready to fire those rear guns," Hera said and Jason quickly took a seat on the artillery gun dissipating the flames with the force
"Chopper's down, I got you cover captain," Jason said as the ship rotated on its back Jason aimed the guns at the TIE fighters and blow two of them but cursed when he saw more ships behind them "Dank Farrik, we have more ships incoming!" Jason said as he kept firing the gun
"Sabine I need you on the nose gun," Hera said as she kept maneuvering around the TIE fighters "Someone wants to tell me why we're extra popular today?" Hera asked
"Because we're good Samaritans," Jason said cheekily as he kept firing the guns
"Okay someone other than Jason," Hera said and Jason grumbled
"We picked up a passenger," Kanan said "The Rodian the Empire is looking for," He said
"And he's important because…?" Hera asked in curiosity
"Because his cybernetic implant has downloaded half the empire's secrets," Sabine said and Jason chuckled
"Meaning he is a walking pot of gold," Jason said smirking at the thought of the credits
"You're really such a greedy person Jay," Sabine said chuckling and Jason laughed
"You do realize the more money we have, the more weapons we can buy right?" Jason said and Sabine stayed quiet for a minute
"Great, now you're turning me into a greedy person too," Sabine said sighing and Jason chuckled
"Okay you lovebirds, first we need to get out of here and then we can talk about guns and money," Hera said as the ship rocked again "Shield's down, Ezra I need you in the cockpit," Hera said and Jason kept firing at the TIE fighters taking another one down
Then after a stressful moment, Jason felt the ship go into hyperspace and leaned back on the chair sighing in relief, he touched his face and saw blood dripping from his cut and sighed again "Yeah, that's not good," Jason whispered as he stood up from the chair and looked down at Chopper "Let's get ourselves fixed buddy," Jason said as he put his hand forward and levitated Chopper as he walked into the dining area of the ship
He put Chopper next to the table as he leaned on the table and waited for the rest of the crew to come there, Sabine arrived first with her helmet on her hands and her eyes winded when she saw the bloody face of Jason
"Jesus, what happened to you?" Sabine said grabbing a cloth and started cleaning Jason's face
"I fell and hit my head with the ship, like an idiot," Jason said chuckling and Sabine smiled
"You are certainly one, please take care of yourself better from now on," Sabine said finishing cleaning his face
"And miss how you take care of me? Not a chance love," Jason said making Sabine blush and smiled at him
"We're out of the fire for now," Kanan said as Sabine separate herself from Jason and stood next to him "Jason, Sabine, see if you can fix Chopper," Kanan said and both teens nodded and started working on the downed android
Sabine looked at Ezra in concern and Jason raised an eyebrow in concern at her and she shook her head when she met Jason's eyes, telling him not to worry
"So, what do we do about him?" Ezra asked looking at Tseebo
"We have a few ideas," Kanan said and then walked to stand in front of Ezra "But it should be your decision, you have a history with him," Kanan said
Ezra put his helmet on and looked at Kanan "Don't know, don't much care," Ezra said and Kanan sighed
"Ezra, you'll never advance as a Jedi if you can't be honest, with yourself at least," Kanan said
"What's that supposed to mean?" Ezra said standing up from the couch and Kanan stopped him by grabbing his helmet
"It means that Tseebo matters to you," Kanan said as he glared at the kid "You do care what happens to him," Kanan said
"Why should I?" Ezra asked sarcastically "He did nothing to save my parents," Ezra said and Jason intervened
"You care because he is one of the last remnants you have of your parents," Jason said as he looked at Tseebo "I know where you are coming from, you're angry and I understand that, but you also know that there's not much a guy can do against the empire alone, but that doesn't mean he didn't try," Jason said as he walked to where Tseebo was and Hera took his place fixing Chopper
"These devices are not mandatory, not yet at least, so he volunteered to take them, so he could access Empire information knowing it could mess with his head, my guess is that he wanted to know what happened to your parents, and once he knew, he downloaded everything he could and ran away," Jason said looking at the device on Tseebo's head as the Rodian speak something in his native tongue, Jason looked at Sabine and she nodded understanding his silent question
"He says that the empire can track the Ghost," Sabine said to the crew
"Oh please, the empire can't track us through hyperspace," Zeb scoffed then he narrowed his eyes "Can they?" Zeb asked and a hologram appeared from Tseebo's device
"Imperial XX-23 S-Thread Tracker was developed by Sienar Systems, to trace ships through hyperspace destinations," Tseebo said as the crew looked at the hologram
"Hera, could they have tracked us with that thing?" Kanan asked as Hera finished fixing Chopper
"Guess we better find out," Hera said as the android came back to life and started speaking and moving around "Calm down Chop, you were just offline for a few minutes," Hera said as the android stopped moving "We need you to scan the Ghost for that," Hera said pointing at the hologram behind the android
Chopper made some more noises as he walked to the cockpit followed by the crew "Stop grumbling and find that tracker, you rust bucket!" Zeb said following the android as the team minus Tseebo entered the cockpit
"So they did tag us," Sabine said as Chopper put a hologram of the ship forward signaling where the tracker is
Jason was leaning on the wall behind Sabine as he looked at the group in silence and deep thought
"Yes," Hera said "But the good news is the tracer's actually on the hull of the Phantom," Hera said and Zeb grumbled
"How is that good news exactly?" Zeb asked in confusion
"It'll allow us to detach the Phantom and lure the Imperials away from the Ghost and Tseebo," Kanan said
"Wow, wow, wow, you want to detach in hyperspace?" Sabine asked in shock "Do you know how incredibly dangerous that is?" Sabine said and Kanan chuckled
"Not as dangerous as what I have planned to do with the ship," Kanan said and Zeb grumbled
"Can't wait to hear this," Zeb said and Kanan looked at Hera
"I checked our current trajectory if you can modify the hyperspace coordinates," Kanan said and Hera looked at him in confusion
"I could," Hera said raising an eyebrow at him
"Then we can pass by that asteroid field the old clone base is," Kanan said
"Wait, you mean the base with those nasties that live in the shadows?" Sabine asked
"Wait what?" Why would we want to go down there?" Ezra asked in confusion
"He's right Kanan," Hera said "Why not just drop the Phantom into our trail and let the Imperials chase after their tracker?" Hera asked but before Kanan could answer Jason spoke up for the first time since they got to the cockpit
"Because there are two trackers on this ship," Jason said and the crew minus Kanan looked at him in confusion "The inquisitor is following us, I can feel him," Jason said as he had his eyes closed "And as long as me, Kanan or Ezra remains on the Ghost within his reach," Jason said and Kanan finish for him
"We're putting Tseebo and the Ghost in jeopardy," Kanan said
"So I have to leave the Ghost and go to this nasty-filled asteroid as a favor to Tseebo?" Ezra asked and Kanan nodded
"As a favor to all of us, and don't worry, me and Jason will be there right beside you," Kanan said and Ezra sighed
Ghost's kitchen sometime later
Jason was working on Tseebo's device to try and download the information Tseebo had on his head, he started coding some chip to download all the info while Ezra looked at both of them
Sabine entered the kitchen and shared a look with Jason before turning to speak to Ezra
"So your parents, do you really believe they're dead?" Sabine asked in curiosity
"Yes," Ezra said and then shook his head "No, I don't know, does it matters?" Ezra asked
"Of course, it matters," Sabine said in exasperation as Jason tried hard not to intervene "You have to talk to Tseebo before we go," Sabine said
"Tried that already," Ezra said
"Well try harder, once Hera takes him away, you may never see Tseebo again," Sabine tied to plead with Ezra but he scoffed and headed to the exit of the kitchen
"Maybe it's for the best," Ezra said and Sabine's eyes winded
"Wha, how can you say that!?" Sabine asked as Jason frowned in concern sensing the distress he felt coming from Sabine
"Sabine," Ezra said turning to look at her "I've been on my own since I was seven, okay?" Ezra said narrowing his eyes "If I'd let myself believe my folks are alive, if I'd let myself believe they'd come back and save me, I'd never have learned how to survive," Ezra said as the door opened revealing Kanan behind it
"You ready?" Kanan asked as Sabine looked at Ezra pleading with her eyes for Ezra to talk to Tseebo but he just turns and faced Kanan "Ok, Jason?" Kanan asked and Jason sighed putting his programmed chip on the Rodian's device, he looked at Sabine and then looked at Kanan
"Give a moment, I'll catch up with you at the Phantom," Jason said as Kanan nodded and led Ezra to the ship, Jason walked to where Sabine was and put his hands on her shoulders "Hey, are you okay?" Jason asked looking into Sabine's eyes
She looked up and stared into Jason's eyes "Not really, but you know that don't you?" Sabine asked rhetorically and Jason nodded "Can we talk when you get back? Just the two of us," Sabine pleaded and Jason nodded
"Of course, we can love, here let me give you something to keep your mind preoccupied," Jason said taking out the chip he had grabbed from Ezra's home "Two things actually, first, I put a chip on Tseebo's device, it should gather a lot of info from the storage unit, in an hour or two tops, once it's done, take it out before Hera gives Tseebo away, I want to sell those plans to the guild and the public," Jason said and Sabine nodded and then looked at the disk in Jason's hands
"And that?" Sabine asked and Jason handed it to Sabine
"An old disk from Ezra's parents, think you could de-encrypt it for me?" Jason asked and Sabine nodded putting the chip away "Okay then, I should go," Jason said and Sabine put her hand on Jason's right cheek
"Stay safe Jay, we need to figure out where this is going okay?" Sabine said referring to their relationship and Jason nodded
"I'll come back to you," Jason said placing his forehead on her and taking a breath of her essence before walking away to the Phantom
Jason entered the ship as Kanan was reading it to take off and took a seat in front of Ezra and closed his eyes to prepare mentally for the mission
"Ready for separation," Hera said as Kanan grabbed the handle of the ship
"Copy that Ghost," Kanan said as Hera started counting down from five
"Detach!" Hera said as Kanan pressed the detached button and the Phantom exited the hyperspace and rocked back and forth as Kanan tried to get a hold of the ship
Jason grabbed the handle of his seat trying to stay steady as Kanan managed to get control of the ship
"Yeah, we're never doing that shit again," Jason said as Kanan looked at him and chuckled
"Well that was the easy part," Kanan said as he navigated to the old clone base
"So, should we go over the plan?" Ezra asked and Kanan smiled
"I never told you what the plan was," Kanan said as they got to the old base
"Exactly," Ezra said and Jason chuckled
"Knowing the old man, it's a stupid and dumb one," Jason said and Kanan scoffed
"I'm not old," Kanan said and Jason smirked
"See how he didn't correct me about the plan," Jason said cheekily as Kanan grumbled
"You remember the nasty creatures Hera and Sabine found here?" Kanan asked and Ezra nodded
"I rather forget about them, but yes," Ezra said sighing
"Well, I'm going to need you to connect to them, like I was trying to teach you before if we're going to survive this," Kanan said
"Is now really the best time for a lesson?" Ezra asked in nervousness
"No, but I figured it's learning as you do best, by surviving," Kanan said and Ezra looked down
"Kanan, I can't, I'm afraid," Ezra said and Kanan looked at Jason feeling he needed to stay quiet and let Jason speak
"It's normal to be afraid, it's an emotion after all, but we need to control our fear, and not let it control us, because fear is the path to the dark side," Jason said as Ezra looked at him in confusion
"The dark side?" Ezra asked and Jason nodded
"The dark side of the force, the inquisitor uses it, listen to Ezra, and make sure these words stay in your head," Jason said as Ezra looked at him "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering, that's why Fear is not the Jedi way," Jason said as Kanan put the ship on the floor of the base where the sun didn't shine
Ezra gulped as both Jedis stood up and walked to the exit of the ship "Let's go make some new friends, Jason you take out the tracker," Kanan said as Jason nodded when Kanan opened the ship Jason quickly climb the ship up, and started ripping the tracker off
He managed to take it out and throw it away and saw that the creatures of the asteroid circling around them, his hand instinctively went to his lightsaber but stop to let Ezra handle the situation
"You're blocked, let go," Kanan said as he put his hands forward to intervene in case Ezra didn't control the animals
"I can't," Ezra said
"Don't be afraid," Kanan said as he looked around at the animals
"I'm not afraid of them," Ezra said with his eyes closed
"Then what?" Kanan asked in seriousness
"I don't know," Ezra said and Kanan glared at him
"Yes you do," Kanan said as Ezra's closed eyes winded "Ezra what are you afraid of?" Kanan asked as Jason dropped down next to Kanan and put his hands up
"I'm afraid of… I'm afraid of not knowing," Ezra whispered and then he screamed, "I'm afraid of the truth!" Ezra screamed as Jason's eyes winded as every single creature in the area stopped and took a seat
"Kanan, his connection to the force is raw and unstable, what have you been teaching him?" Jason asked whispering to Kanan who looked at him
"The basics, but I think it's time to speed up the training," Kanan said as Jason nodded and jumped to the roof of the ship and took a crossed-legged seat on it as he started meditating
After a while, Jason opened his eyes as he saw the Gran Inquisitor entering the area and looking straight at him
"Is this your plan, making these creatures do your work?" The inquisitor asked sarcastically Jason stood up and jumped in front of the Inquisitor as he finished slicing a creature and blocking Jason's swing
"It's called a distraction jackass, ever heard of it?" Jason asked rhetorically as he slashed upwards and then spun around trying to slash the stomach of the Inquisitor
The empire enemy noticed that Jason was only using one lightsaber and narrowed his eyes in anger at the thought of being underestimated "You two have a space for one more?" Kanan asked as he tried to slash the unprotected side of the Inquisitor
The Inquisitor lit up the other part of his lightsaber to block Kanan's attack and push him back with his feet
Jason stepped back up as he tried to slash the head of the Inquisitor but the white pale man kept dodging and blocking Jason's attacks
They kept at it for a while neither the dark user nor the light users gaining any advantage, then the Inquisitor shoved Kanan aside sending him crashing into an abandoned ship with the force
The Inquisitor focused his attention on Jason and smirked "You know, you caught me off guard several times now, never knew why," The Inquisitor said and Jason raised an eyebrow
"You know that you shouldn't compliment your enemies in the middle of the fight," Jason said as they kept trading blows
"Oh it's not a compliment, it's an observation," The Inquisitor said as they fell into a stalemate "Your signature is familiar, I've sensed it before, when I witness your sister's training at the Empire, tell me how long since you have seen Vaylin?" The Inquisitor asked rhetorically and Jason's eyes winded
"No, my sister is dead, she died back at the temple, like everyone else," Jason said and the Inquisitor laughed
"Are you sure about that? You know I speak truthfully, your sister lives, and she's a weapon for the empire," The Inquisitor said Jason faltered a second and that's all the Inquisitor needed as he kicked Jason in his stomach and send him flying into the Ghost knocking him out cold
"Vaylin where are we going, you're going to get us into trouble," A four-year-old Jason said as he flowed a young blond girl about his age through the hallways of the Jedi Temple in Coruscant
"Come on Jason, where is your sense of adventure?" Vaylin asked rhetorically as she led them
"I have a sense of adventure, but one that doesn't get us killed sis," Jason said and Vaylin scoffed
"Just trust me, dear little brother of mine, I know what I'm doing," Vaylin said and Jason grumbled
"We're fraternal twins, and besides we do not know who came first," Jason said grumbling as Vaylin chuckled
"I'm the bold one, obviously I'm the older one," Vaylin said as they got to a huge door "Were here, come one help me push," Vaylin said as she and Jason pushed the doors and entered quickly to the room
"What is this place?" Jason asked in wonder
"An archive storage, but that's not what I wanted to show you, come on," Vaylin said as she led Jason into the middle of the room and placed a disk on the computer as a hologram lit up around the children "Long ago, an Empire ruled the edges of the outer rim, this empire was called the Eternal Empire, or the Zakuul Empire, they rose when the Galactic War was on its peak," Vaylin said and Jason raised an eyebrow at her
"Why are you telling me this?" Jason asked as Vaylin moved her hand and the hologram changed into a woman with black robes and tattooed arms
"She and I carry the same name Jason, and I felt a connection to her, I think these are our ancestors Jason, this is our family," Vaylin said with a huge smile on her face
"You're saying that we are children of the Eternal Empire?" Jason asked and Vaylin chuckled
"Why do you have to put everything poetically?" Vaylin asked chuckling but nodding nonetheless "But yeah, that's what I'm saying, and she's not the only important figure, of course, there was the Emperor Valkorion, the Sith emperor of the time disguising himself as the emperor of that planet," Vaylin said and Jason looked at her in confusion
"How do you know all of this?" Jason asked in curiosity
"It's all in the holograms, and I've been coming here a lot and studying all of this," Vaylin said as she changed the image
"Of course, there's my namesake Vaylin, a young force user who was turned into a witch and a tool for the Emperor, then she became Empress after her older brother deflect the throne, then she ally herself with the outlander to fight against her father the Emperor himself," Vaylin said and Jason nodded in amazement
"Then there's one of the sons of the Emperor, the only one who survived, Arcann," Vaylin said as Jason looked at the hologram in amazement and a sense of belonging invaded his system, the male in front of Jason was wearing a set of white robes and grey armor, with a black robotic arm where his left arm was supposed to be and a broken black mask with yellow lights highlighting his eye covering the left side of his face
"You feel it too, don't you?" Vaylin asked rhetorically as Jason nodded
"I feel like I'm looking in a mirror, like I've known this guy my whole life like I'm this guy," Jason said and then turn to look at his sister "What does all of this mean Vay?" Jason asked and Vaylin shrugged
"I don't know Jay, but I believe these are our ancestors, and they are the key to figuring out what happened to our parents, and who they are," Vaylin said and Jason nodded "Ready for another adventure brother?" Vaylin asked and Jason smiled
Jason opened his eyes as he groggily woke up and saw Ezra controlling a giant creature behind him, he gasped as he felt the darkness pouring out of Ezra as the creature attacked the Inquisitor "Shit," Jason whispered under his breath as he saw Ezra passed out
He and Kanan ran towards Ezra and picked his arms up and put them in each person's neck respectively "Kanan we need to get out of here," Jason said as Kanan nodded
"Kanan, Jason? What happened? I feel so cold?" Ezra said as he woke up for a second as Kanan and Jason carried him to the Phantom
"I know, it's okay, we're leaving," Kanan said as they approach the ship, Kanan grabbed his lightsaber with The Force as Jason opened the ship
Jason saw the Inquisitor sending his lightsaber towards them and quickly lit his own and blocked the weapon sending it away and entering the ship
He quickly took the pilot seat and started flying away while Kanan secured Ezra on one of the seats
Jason flew the ship out of the shadow area and shoot at the Inquisitor ship blowing it up and preventing him from following the Jedis
Jason sighed and leaned back on his seat once they were safe in space as he rubbed his face in tiredness and spun back to share a look with Kanan
"I saved us?" Ezra asked in confusion putting his legs close to his chest
"You did," Kanan said as Jason let him carry the conversation
"But something doesn't feel right," Ezra said hugging himself
"If your will isn't strong enough when you open yourself to the force, you become more vulnerable to the dark side," Kanan said and Ezra frowned
"But I was trying to protect you, both of you," Ezra said while looking at the two older Jedis
"We know Ez, but your fear of what may happen to us, turned into an anger that caused the monster to attack," Jason said and Ezra looked down at the floor
"I don't remember it," Ezra said and Kanan smiled
"That's for the best," Kanan said as he sighed "You're powers are growing so quickly, you weren't prepared, I didn't teach you what you needed to know, I'm sorry," Kanan said as the trio fell into silence and Jason turn back around to watch the horizon
Ghost sometime later
The trio arrived at the ship as the rest of the crew waited for them in the dining area
"Welcome back you three," Sabine said as she went to stand by Jason's side and put her hand on his arm Jason send her a small sad smile that Sabine noticed as her concern grew a little
"You outsmarted him again, good job boss," Zeb said and Kanan smiled but it didn't reach his eyes
"You made it," Hera said looking at Kanan with a smile and he smiled sadly at her making her raise an eyebrow then she noticed Ezra walking forward "Oh Ezra, I have something to say…" But he walked away without hearing her
"Ezra needs some time alone," Kanan said as the crew watch him leave, Jason sighed once the door closed behind him and leaned on the table of the dining room
"We have a problem Jarrus," Jason said using the leader's last name to emphasize the seriousness of the situation
"I know," Kanan said sighing and rubbing his face as the crew looked at them in confusion
"What are you guys talking about?" Hera asked as Kanan looked at her debating on whether to tell them or not but Jason spoke out anyway
"He's growing stronger, at a rate that neither me nor Kanan could've anticipated, making him vulnerable to the dark side," Jason said looking at where Ezra had gone, "I told myself, I shouldn't interfere, this a bond between master and padawan, I shouldn't meddle in, guess that's out of the window," Jason said and Kanan looked at him with a raised eyebrow
"What changed?" Kanan asked in curiosity
"If he falls, it will take all of us fighting tooth and nail to bring him back, me meddling in will prevent him from falling," Jason said and Kanan nodded sighing
"You're right, like I said, we need to speed up his training," Kanan said and hardened his eyes
"I'm going to my room if anybody needs me, I need to think about some things," Jason said separating himself from the table and walking to his room under the concerned watchful eyes of Sabine
Jason enter his quarters and walked to the box of his belongings taking off his upper clothes and putting his lightsabers on his nightstand
He open his crate and took out a silver necklace with the letter V hanging on the end of the necklace, he sat on Sabine's bed and stared at the necklace for a while in deep thought nearly missing Sabine entering their room
"Hey," Sabine said in concern as she put her helmet on the nightstand and sat next to Jason putting a hand on his shoulder "Everything okay?" Sabine asked and Jason looked at her with troubled eyes
"It's just something that the Inquisitor said, I think my sister is alive," Jason said and Sabine's eyes winded
"Are you kidding right? That's good news," Sabine said but Jason dropped his head
"Not really, I heard of what the Empire does to force sensitive children Sabine, they torture them and make them into weapons, if my sister is indeed alive, then she went to all that pain and I didn't even know," Jason said as Sabine placed a hand on his back and started moving it up and down comforting Jason
"Hey, Jay look at me," Sabine said as he turn to look at her "We will find your sister, and we will save her, it's what we do, isn't it?" Sabine asked rhetorically and he smiled
"Yeah, it's what we do," Jason said and then frowned "Something was eating at you earlier, you wanted to talk about it," Jason said and Sabine sighed
"It's not important," Sabine said and Jason placed his hand on her cheek and turn her face to make her look at him
"Hey, just because I have problems doesn't mean that yours aren't important, I'll gladly carry your troubles, Sabine, so please tell me, what's troubling you?" Jason asked in concern as Sabine smiled and sighed
"Okay first, if you're so intent on carrying my burdens, then I'll carry yours, we're partners got that?" Sabine said and Jason smiled smirking a little bit "It's just that, the whole situation with Ezra, made me think about my parents," Sabine said as Jason took one of her hands into his own
"I made a weapon, for the empire, a bad one, they used it against my people," Sabine said and Jason squeezed her hand once he saw she was almost tearing up "After I found out, I just couldn't face my family, I couldn't face their disappointment, so I fled, and I haven't talked to them in a while," Sabine said and Jason nodded in understanding
"So this situation made you think what if your parents had passed and you didn't know?" Jason asked and Sabine nodded "Hey, look at me," Jason said as Sabine stared at him with teary eyes "You're a Mandalorian, like you're parents, if someone from Clan Wren died, I would have heard it on the chatters, we have to believe that they're alive and that you'll meet them again, to prove them you regret your choices and that you're fighting to fix them," Jason said and Sabine smiled
"You're not judging me for helping the empire?" Sabine asked and Jason shook his head
"I would like to hear about your past sure, but that doesn't matter much, what matters is you now, the warrior you have become, I don't want to date your past, I want you, and like we said, we've done awful things to survive, it's how we live now that matters," Jason said and Sabine smiled as she leaned forward and placed her forehead on Jason's one
"Thank you, you don't know how much that means to me," Sabine said and Jason smiled "Can you sleep with me tonight?" Sabine asked and Jason chuckled nervously
"Ah well, sure, but don't you think that's too fast?" Jason asked and Sabine chuckled as she punched his arm and separated herself from him
"Not like that you pig," Sabine said smirking "Just sleeping, I don't want to sleep alone tonight," Sabine said and Jason nodded
"Oh that," Jason said "Sure, do you want my bed or yours?" Jason asked and she stood up and started taking off her armor
"Mine, turn around, we may be a couple but I'm not comfortable stripping in front of you yet," Sabine said as Jason nodded and turned his head around
"Oh, that reminds me, I have the chip with Tseebo's info," Sabine said and Jason nodded without looking at her
"Put it on the nightstand, I'll check it out in the morning," Jason said "What about the Bridger's disk?" Jason asked in curiosity
"It was a family photo of them, I already gave it to Ezra," Sabine said "You can turn around now," Sabine said as Jason turned around and saw Sabine wearing a black sports bra and some black shorts, letting nothing much to the imagination
"You're really beautiful," Jason said and Sabine blushed
"Shut up, now stand up, I want to be the little spoon," Sabine said as he stood up from the bed and let Sabine make herself comfortable before laying next to her and putting his arm around her waist as she leaned into his body "Oh yeah, I can get used to this," Sabine said using Jason's free arm as a pillow
"I'll take that as a compliment," Jason said as he leaned forward and hugged Sabine tightly "Thank you for listening to me, my love," Jason said as he started drifting into sleepiness
"Any time, sleep well Jay," Sabine said as everything around Jason faded to black
