Leaning against the wall of Ba Sing Se, Avatar Aang looked up noticed just how large this wall truly was. Sure he had seen it from the air and from the ground at distance and even up close before. Though just standing here in front of the wall itself without anything else on his mind. He could see just how big it really was. The sense of scale was something that was a lot easier to notice when you could just stand there taking it.

Aang let out a rather long sigh as repairing this wall was much harder then he thought it would be originally. The hole cause by Iroh was not that hard to fix nor was the damage cause by the Fire Nation attempt to drill through the wall. These were just a typical hole that in the wall itself. However the real problem was the ones cause by the Da Li. Though they were called holes the truth was that it was that they did was take down a section of the entire wall itself.

Although merely repairing was not the holes were the only trouble that was sprung up. There were people that were questioning if they should even be fixed at all. Sure it was a huge remainder of how they were taken over by the Fire Nation. Yet there was others that were pushing to look beyond this saying that it opened up the city to those that were outside it. The walling off their entire capital made seem like it was separate from the rest of kingdom. Of course the most avid supporters of this was for the Inner Wall instead Outer one.

Having done all that he could for the day it was finally time to go home for the day. On his way back to his home in Ba Sing Se, Aang thought about sending a letter to Katara telling that she should come here after all. She was waiting for Toph but it was made very clear that she was busy with her parents. After all the Earth King told him that they had tried contacting her first in attempting to fix the wall. The type of stone needed was not available around the wall, yet another problem that Aang was facing. Otherwise he could have just used the Avatar State to raise the earth in place where the Da Li pulled it down.

His thought of this were disturbed when someone ran into him apparently focused on their own thoughts.

Offering to help him up the person froze as they realized just who they had bumped into.

"Hello Avatar" the Earth Kingdom girl said managing to find her voice

Replying back in kind, Aang tried to walk around them but the girl remaining standing in his way. She attempted to speak a few time but other then just saying hello again a few more time.

"Is there something that you want" he asked wanting to just get home to carry out his plan and relax.

"Can you tell me about your culture I really want to know" she blurted out.

Of course this left him dumbfounded as usually he was not the one that started conversation like this. Normally he was the one that just started talking about his people or when something from his culture was staring people in the face he would explain it.

Inviting her over to his place as she really seem eager to learn about his culture and not just in him.

The girl who introduced herself as Yee-Li just stood there like a cat deer in a spotlight.

"Hey are you okay?" Aang asked curiously looking over at her then where her eyes were directed.

She was just staring there looking at Appa who somewhat visible even though he was backyard.

"You want to pet Appa?" he asked as she then turned her head and nodding vigorously.

Yee-Li then rushed towards him after being the go ahead jumping over the fence then started rubbing Appa's head (who had been made aware of the situation).

After her amazement of his Sky Bison died down a bit, Aang then started talking about his culture to her. Which Yee-Li listen giving her full and undivided attention to him. She was always really curious about the Air Nomad and their culture. She felt this connection that drew her towards them. This interest was awaken within when she traveled outside the wall of Ba Sing Se and learned of the Air Nomad through a merchant. One that later sold her a flute they claimed was an airbender flute. When she showed it off to her mother she almost immediately freaked out telling her never to show this to anyone.

Appa then noticed it was getting dark but neither the Avatar nor Yee-Li seem to notice at all. He tried getting their attention so they could notice this but Aang was so engrossed on talking about his culture that he did not hear him and Yee-Li was too busy listening.

"I have a flute just like that want to see…huh? When did it get so dark" she called out noticing this for the first time.

"Its pretty dark out so how about I give you a ride. Rather then let you walk all the way there since I kept you here so long" Aang offered.

This took awhile for her mind to process and when it did she nodded vigorously as she could not find her voice again.

"Yee-Li where have you been all this time. Do you know how dark it gotten outside" her mother said as she saw her child at the door.

"My apologizes as she ran into me while was on my way home myself. She showed interest in Air Nomad culture and well I been telling her about all this time" Aang said after having jumping off of Appa(luckily there was enough space to land nearby)

"Since you here I can show you my flute. Just wait there for a moment" Yee-Li told him.

"So Avatar what brings you to the city this time" the woman said with a smile yet manner in which she called him avatar left him wondering.

"Dealing with the repairs to the Inner and Outer walls mostly" he repiled.

Yee-Li came back with the flute which look a lot like the one Gyasto(his mentor) had himself. Wanting to try and impress him as she claimed to have some scrolls on how to play one with shocked even her mother when she overheard this. Causing her to trying to stop her but was too late in trying to do this.

Yee-Li began playing the flute and though it was badly played music, it was still notably recognized as music.

"Was I that bad…I practiced but kind of hard to do so given the war and…." she said visibly worried when she noticed the Air Nomad before her having gone pale.

"Are you a bender" he asked.

"Nope I am not as I can not earthbend" she replied.

"Come here for a second" Aang asked her.

Yee-Li looked towards her mother as she was not really sure what was going on she wanted to impress him but was not sure about the respond that she had got.

"Go ahead I am glad this happened AFTER the war and not during it" her mother said.

Confused even more walked over to him and held her arms for a second. Moving them in the most basic of aribending exercises.

"Woah so this is what airbending is like it so amazing…its…its…." Yee-Li said but immediately stopped as her eyes then rolled up into her head and she passed out. Realizing that she was the one doing this as Aang let go of her hands.

Grabbing Yee-Li before she could hit the ground, Aang looked towards her mother that seem to know this could possibly happen.

"Sozin did not wipe out all the Air Nomads. Her grandmother, Malu, was an Air Nomad that survived the attack. Thus Yee-Li is a quarter Air Nomad herself. I guess that while I did not inherited my mother's bending she had instead" her mother told him.

Yee-Li then started coming too and looked at her mom and noticed that she was in Aang's arms.

"I just had the strangest dream as the avatar was airbending and when he let go of my arms turns out I was" she said.

"That was not a dream as you were airbending. The reason why cause your grandmother was an Air Nomad" her mother told her.

Again Yee-Li had the cat deer in spotlight look on her face as Aang tried waving his hand in front of her face yet got no respond.

"How was she able to be unaware of her own bending for so long" he asked her mother

She just shrugged her shoulders in reply "Neither one of us are fully Earth Kingdom people so whose to say why"

So it seemed that while all Air Nomads were air benders that does not mean all airbenders were Air Nomads same as other three benders then.

Author's Note:
Rather then having Aang be the last Airbender. I decided to make the so that he was merely the last Air Nomad instead. I probably go in to more detail because I have not finish thinking of all the details at the moment.

As for Yee-Li, she is an actual character from the Avatar universe. She does not appear in the series itself but the first of the comic only follow-ups called The Search. Where she is listed as one of the original Air Acolyte, which were originally just members of the Official Avatar Aang Fan Club. Though in this story I am just skip over the Official Avatar Aang Fan Club phrase and make them Air Acolyte from the start as number of them and others would have the ability to airbend. Also Yee-Li will be sticking around In this story as Aang's first airbending student but she only view him as her friend and mentor in Air Nomad culture.

As for the character Malu being an Air Nomad. That something taken from the Avatar card game where there is a character called Malu who is a Air Nomad that thanks to her mother hiding him the mountain of the Earth Kingdom managed to avoid getting killed like everyone else minus Aang. For the purpose of this story I just made her Yee-Li's grandmother as the reason she is able to airbend.
