A/N: Hey! So I know, the grammar and writing is poor, I have written the 5th year, three years ago in Word Pad, and have been completing the book's last few chapters now and editing them. I know, I should edit the starting chapters but I am a bit lazy and more excited to finish the book first and my head is completely into the last chapters, the characters there have grown up and the theme has gone a bit dark due to war. So, I promise once I am done there I will improve these chapters. I thought of publishing it here only after finishing it completely but you know it takes time to edit, so I decided to upload it here.
So, what do you all say? Should I continue posting the chapters here or should I improve the grammar and writing and edit it then publish? Please tell me whether you're interested in this book or not.
"Why we still have to do the detention?" groaned Lily.
All the students were called to remain in The Great Hall till noon as the aurors and teachers searched the whole school and checked safety status. The students were still unaware of last night attacks.
"Because MacGonagall is not soft and we broke the rules and also you saw that Filch was up to her neck until she had made sure that we get a detention." said James. "And don't worry it will be fun to hang out with Hagrid."
"What you all are talking about ?" asked Fabian as he and Gedeon sat at Gryffindor table with the Marauders , girls , Alice and Frank.
"Just detentions and school. How is Auror training ?" asked James
"Its hard and tiring but when you know that it'll help to fight in the war it gives a purpose and is surely worth it." said Gideon.
"Alice and I are also going to apply for auror training " said Frank.
"Good, we will meet soon then, by the way we have a good news from Molly " said Fabian excitedly.
"What?" asked everyone.
"She is expecting a third baby in August" said Gideon and others chhered
"Good, she is really making love very much. How is Arthur by the way " asked Alice.
"Oh he is really loving his work in the Muggle department but sometimes gets all sad with the way many ministry people think of muggles. And the war is not helping." sighed Fabian.
"Okay guys we will leave now, we have to get back to London by noon and you all take care"said Gideon
"We will miss you both " said Sirius.
"We will miss you all too, but I hope we will meet soon." said Fabian and both the twins left.
Dumbledore stood up and addressed the great hall.
"You all must be wondering why you have been asked to remain in here and why there are Aurors here." nearly the entire student body nodded. "Well, I am sad to inform you that last night there was an attack in the Hogwarts, death eaters were involved." many people gasped and exchanged worried looks. "But I am happy to inform you that there were no casualties thanks to the aurors who were all alert, though Professor Ritwick was injured and has been sent to St. Mungo's , he will not return to continue his post as it was mentally drasting for him and old age wasn't helping, so that position for now will be looked over by Caradorc Dearborn, an Auror who on my request has agreed to remain as a a substitute until we find a permanent teacher.
With deep regret I have to inform you that four students Carrow, Mrs. Amycus Carrow, Mr. Scabior Nott and Mr. Adrian Synde has been expelled from the school due to their involvement in the attack. I request you all not to do stupid things like them and act sincerely."
The whole day passed with students making their own version of the attack, but no one suspected the 11 gryffindor students involvement at all. Though Professor MacGonagall has given them 20 points each for behaving well in the Great Hall.
The next day in the afternoon Lily found herself walking to Hagrid's hut along with James for their detention. James has gone back to normal again after the outburst in the hospital wing that night. He has started to annoy Lily and asked her to go out with him 3 times. Lily each time has come up with a witty reply.
"How many times have you had detention with Hagrid?" asked Lily
"So many times that I have lost count." grinned James.
"And that's a proud thing?"
"Yes, Hagrid invites to his hut sometimes, I must warn you not to eat the food he offers, tea and other drinks are good, but you will break all your teeth if you try to eat the food he cooks." warned James.
"Thanks but I already know this we have visited him few times before." said Lily as they approached Hagrid who was waiting for them outside his hut.
" Hullo James and Lily, got yerself in detention again eh James " beamed Hagrid.
"Was missing you Hagrid, so found an excuse to meet you" replied James.
"You will like the task, come follow me" they both followed Hagrid into the forest. After sometimes they reached an open space where a table was there with a large box set aside and few small boxes on the other side.
"You have to take out the large meats from the big box cut them in small pieces and out 'em in small ones. It's for the Thestrals , they might even come here if they smell the meat. Now, I will be on that side making place for the next class and don't get afraid if your meat disappears, it means they are here, you may or may not see them, I hope you don't as a lot of people are able to see them and freak out " sighed Hagrid and left them.
They both took out the meat and begin cutting it into small pieces.
"What was he talking about? It didn't make sense to me." asked Lily to James who looked at her curiously.
"You don't know what thestrals are?" Lily shook her head.
"Ha! I know something that Evans doesn't ." Lily rolled her eyes, and James continued "Well they are magical creatures and are visible to only a few people." informed James.
"Why?" asked Lily thinking James was messing with her.
"They are only visible to people who have seen death and felt the deepness of it." shrugged James.
"Oh that's sad... but how do you know about them, we haven't been taught Thestrals and they are not in O. syllabus as well."
"Because they are taught in N.E.W.T level" James replied and started focusing on cutting the meat.
"You still haven't told me how you know about them if they are not in O. ?" asked Lily.
James bit his lips and was silent for a minute, he noticed Lily looking at him for answer.
"Well...um...because ... I can see them and when I reached Hogwarts I saw them and thought I was hallucinating as when I asked Sirius, Peter and Remus they said they didn't saw anything so... I went to Madam Pomfrey who told me I was ok and that the creatures I saw were Thestrals and that only few people can see them." James said.
Lily felt instantly bad for James, Hagrid's words now made sense. Lily understood why he had said that he hopes that we don't see them. Before Lily could stop herself her mouth has already spoken.
"Means you have seen someone dying?" Lily looked at James' eyes which had lost its spark and his expression kind of resembled to the night at hospital wing but this time there was no anger.
James nodded.
"Sorry." Lily said she wanted to ask who but thought better of it and they spent the next half hour in silent until there was some noise, James put down his knife, took a piece of meat and approached a horse like creature and offered him the meat who eat it.
Lily looked as the meat disappeared from James's hand.
"What just happened?" asked Lily to James who was moving his hands in air as though patting an animal.
"Here is one thestral " he said looking at the creature.
"I cant see it."Lily said.
"Sorry about that.. no good I hope you never have to see them." said James and Lily understood what he meant.
"How does it look ?"
"Horse-like but skinny and with wings, kind of ugly in appearance." replied James still moving his hand up and down its neck "You wanna touch it ?" he asked Lily who hesitated then nodded and moved beside James with a piece of meat in her hand, the thestral ate it instantly and Lily jumped back.
"Dont worry these ones are harmless, come here I will help you to touch him" said James taking Lily's hand, both of them felt current grinning in their bodies.
"Its bony " remarked Lily as James put her hand on the Thestral's body.
"Yeah."
The thestral looked here and there, then left to go into the woods again.
"Is it gone ?" asked Lily to James who was looking at the thestral's last spot.
"Yeah" he sighed
They continued working in silent again till Lily's curiosity overtook her determination.
"Whom did you saw dying?" she asked and regretted instantly as James stopped cutting and continued looking down at the piece of meat on the table, biting his lips. "Sorry, if you dont want to tell its okay."
They both fell silent again Lily curded herself inwardly for asking such a private question to him when they were not even properly friends.
"My aunt... or to be aunt " replied James after few minutes, he saw Lily looking confused, " She was the Fiance of Uncle Ben but she died 2 days before the wedding."
"Sorry, were you close with her ?" asked Lily then cursed herself again.
"Yeah, I loved her, she was a close friend of my mother too, she mostly used to live with us." James replied looking fixedly at the piece of meat.
"Oh" a realization dawned to Lily and she couldn't stop herself from asking the question fuck her self-control. "You were talking about her at the hospital wing?" James nodded.
"Was it natural death or ...?" asked Lily
"Killed" James replied, Lily saw pain in his eyes and caused herself for making him sad.
Lily put her hand over his wrist to give him comfort. "Sorry I shouldn't have asked, I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm sorry that you lost her."
"It's okay, her death had a great impact on me, it made my choices clear for the future. " James said then looked at Lily looking at him with a concerned look, he remembered something and gave Lily a sad smile " I will tell you more about her later."
Lily nodded and then both started working their work, once they finished Hagrid invited them to his hut and offered tea and cakes, but they just took tea and ignored the cake, they talked and laughed with Hagrid, Lily noticed James has become cheerful again and wondered what it was with all the talks she has heard in hospital wing and then today. Surely his aunt's death must have affected James deeply. She couldn't help but feel sorry for him.
"Dumbledore informed me you know who has got giants to his side" Hagrid's angry voice brought Lily back to the conversation. " I went their to talk to them but they ignored me and warned me to leave or they will kill me. My mum doesn't recognised me, I tried to remind her but she didn't talked to me, they said giants have been treated badly by wizards, and he is offering them more freedom under his reign so they joined him."
"Sorry about your mother Hagrid" said James patting the enormous back of Hagrid.
"She abandoned me and my father, never came back, she was disappointed that I was small. My father was a great wizard, asked me never to be ashamed of who I am. I miss my father. " sobbed Hagrid.
"Hagrid I have told you before and I will tell you again that it doesn't matter whether you are a half giant or not, you are a great person, you are brave and caring, you have a kind heart, you are hundred times a person than those fucking death eaters. Dont be ashamed" said James
"It was good that he didn't have to see me expelled, he would have been disappointed with me too just like my mum, I failed my father." said Hagrid big drops falling from his eyes.
"Hagrid I know your father would have surely believed you that it was not your mistake. I believe you Hagrid, I know that you didn't opened the Chamber of Secrets, Dumbledore believes you Hagrid and so do I, I can trust you with my life Hagrid, we all love you never forget it okay, we all love you ." assured James and looked at Lily who knew about the chamber of secrets story via Moaning Myrtle, and she just knew that Hagrid was expelled but she didnt knew that Hagrid and Chamber of secrets were somehow related. Neverthless she joined James in helping Hagrid to stop sobbing.
It took them half an hour to stop Hagrid from crying again and again.
"Thank you. you both , it meant a lot , now go back to castle or it will be late. And you will both get into detention again." Hargrid pointed out. James and Lily bid their good byes and left.
"What Hagrid got to do with Chamber of Secrets?" asked Lily once they were out of the hut. The sun was slowly setting down and the sky has turned orange, few students were wandering and playing outside the castle gates.
"Very few people know this that Hagrid was expelled because he was accused of opening the chamber of secrets." said James in a low voice.
"So, its real and Myrtle wasnt just faking things." Lily said more to herself.
"Yeah its true it has been opened thrice, the first two were more than 100 years ago and the third one about 30 years ago. But no one has found it ever, it is said that only a true heir of slytherin can open it." James told her.
" So, they thought Hagrid was a heir of slytherin...but he cant kill anyone." gasped Lily.
"No, he cant he is a good man and was in 3rd year when the incident happened and I think he wasfalsely accused because...um... well he was different... a half giant so they covered it easily, and Dumbledore trusts Hagrid so do I. I just hope we could find out what happened but all the records of that particular year was removed so we weren't able to know more about it. And I am not heir of slytherin so I couldn't find the chamber of secrets to prove Hagrid innocent." James shrugged. Lily looked at him trying to figure out what he means by all this.
"I think Dumbledore might have tried to prove Hagrid's innocence but I suppose he failed." said Lily.
"Hmm, I just hope someday someone prove Hagrid's innocence." said James.
"Yeah I hope so too." Lily said and then added "His mother was horrible"
"Much like Sirius' mother" James pointed out.
"Maybe both are sisters." Lily remarked and James burst out laughing.
They continued talking until they reached the Castle gates where they were interrupted by a girl.
"Hey Lily , hey James " greeted the girl, Lily recognised as a 5th year Ravenclaw, Lucy Mackay, one of the best looking and most popular girl in Hogwarts, boys were always running behind her.
"Hey Lucey" both of them replied.
"James, next Saturday is Hogsmeade." she said to James.
"Yeah, I know." James replied and Lucy took a step towards him.
"So, you remember when I asked you for ball, you said you already had a partner?"
"Yeah" James said.
"So, now will you like to go to date to Hogsmeade with me?" Lucy giggled. For the first time Lily felt a strange feeling, jealousy towards Lucy. What does that mean. Lily looked at James who was looking anywhere but the two girls near him. Lily knew that any boy would be eager to go on a date with Lucy for she was one of the most beautiful girl and she thought James would took the offer instantly.
"Um...actually I am not interested in dating these days... you know with O. and quidditch." replied James and Lily's mouth fell open James has just asked Lily in the morning to go with Hogsmeade with him but now he was not interested in dating and that too with Lucy, The Lucy, whom even the girls praise for her beauty.
"Oh okay" Lucy turned and stormed back to castle throwing both James and Lily an angry look.
"You are not interested in dating , now?" asked Lily.
"I am but I wasnt interested in her and this was a good excuse beside she was not interested in me." James sighed.
"She just asked you on a date and you say she is not interested in you?" asked Lily.
"She asked me because she was more interested in my blood purity and family name." said James.
"I dont understand."
"You see, I am a Potter, we are quite wealthy, Lucy's parents wanted as to be you know get together, they approached my parents also with all that bullshit but my parents denied it and said it is my choice with whom I want to be married, they will not force me into it. So, she is trying to go on a date with me since then." shrugged James, Lily felt relieved and confused at the same time.
"Why would her parents do that, its wrong to force children into such bonds."
"Yeah I know, but most of Pureblood families do the same, so their purity line remains." James said.
"Oh that's bad and idiotic." said Lily.
"Hmm I know but we cant do anything. I am just grateful my parents are not like them otherwise I would be running away from my home too."James said and they both continued towards great hall for dinner which was to begin in 10 minutes.
All the 5th years were called for Career advice in the upcoming week. The Marauders and the Valkyries sat together in the common room ti discuss their options before the meeting with Macgonagall.
"I am going to be an auror without a doubt, though if war wasnt going on I might have considered future in quidditch, but no I am clear I want to be auror and am going to fight in the war. " said James confidently.
"What about you Mary?" asked Marlene.
"I think a healer will be good, I can help people or I would go for Arithmancer, as I love arithmacy." said Mary.
"I am going to take some time off after hogwarts, then I will apply for curse breaker, it is much adventurous." said Sirius.
"I think of something with herbology or care taker, but my mom said to go for a job in Ministry, so I am all confused, but I like Magical creatures and am good at it so something in that field." said Peter .
"What about you Marls?" asked James
"Unspeakable probably." replied Marls.
"And you Remus?" asked Mary
" I am not clear, I will not be going for Auror as I dont like potions. I think a professor is good." Shrugged Remus.
"Professor R.J. Lupin " grinned Sirius.
"Lily you are left tell about what you want to do?" asked Marlene.
Lily was as always having difficulty in making decisions about her future, she was good at potions and charms, a potioneer looked a good option and few months back Severus has told her that they both can be potioneers together it had looked good option at that time. But then with being a muggleborn all the war going on and the recent events had made her doubtful on being potioneer. Dumbledore's words rang in her ears, she looked at all her friends, her eyes settled at the hazle ones which were looking directly at her green ones. She thought James loved quidditch and was free to become a quidditch player but has decided to be an auror to fight in the war which was not his. She thought about all muggles and muggle borns. She found a strange reassurance and her mind cleared as she continued looking at the hazle eyes.
"I am going to be an auror and fight in the war. " Lily smiled, as she felt her mind cleared and the Gryffindor bravery caught up with her. She saw that James smiled at her.
Soon Quidditch Final arrived and it was Gryffindor Vs Ravenclaw, all Gryffindor has to do was just win the match or avoid losing by more than 40 points, otherwise, Ravenclaw would win the Quidditch Cup.
The match was a very tense one as both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw were fighting neck to neck. Frank Longbottom has used new tactics against Ravenclaws but it wasn't very successful. The match entered the third hour and the score was 210 to 190 Ravenclaw.
Kevin Bell was circling the pitch his eyes searching for a glimpse of gold. After 20 minutes of circling the grounds he spotted the snitch above Frank's head. Kevin looked quickly at other seeker who was at far end and hasn't spotted the snitch yet, Kevin grinned and sped his broom towards the snitch, Frank saw the coming seeker and panicked but for merlin's sake he decided to move down and not up, thus making it easier for Bell to catch the snitch.
"What the hell was that you would have knocked me off my broom " shouted Frank at the seeker who laughed and showed the captain the golden snitch in his hand.
The entire Gryffindors cheered and happily collected the trophy.
"Party common room " shouted Peter at the Gryffindor team who al nodded.
"You go mate, I have to talk to Hooch." James said to Sirius and approached Madam Hooch.
"Madam Hooch can I help you in returning the balls at quidditch room ?" asked James with the most innocent and charming face.
"Sure, thanks Potter." said Hooch.
James took the box with quidditch balls and took it to quidditch room and placed the box at right spot. Then he looked around the room and found the place where previous snitches which were caught were kept, he looked for the one he had first caught in his second year and after few minutes found it.
"There you are, now you will be with me and not in the closed box." he kissed the snitch. James then took out an ordinary ball (which he has nicked from Remus) and tapped it with his wand, the ball turned into snitch shape, with no snitch like quality and placed it where his first snitch was and left.
