I have gotten a new editing software and hope it helps minimize my writing errors. I also have gone through all my criminal minds fanfictions and re-edited them.

I obviously can't continue with this story and ignore a major plot point of Spencer being arrested in Mexico. However, because my story ignores a lot of canonical things I will be going about it in a way that makes sense with my characters.

Mid-Season 12 is where we are in the storyline.

Lorelai paced Emily's office. She couldn't believe this was happening. Spencer had just been arrested in Mexico for drug possession and intent to distribute. He had been found with a lot of cocaine and heroin in a car that the local PD had been chasing towards the border.

Lorelai didn't even know he was in Mexico. He was supposed to be in Huston talking to his mom's doctor.

She needed her dad right now more than anything. But because of Peter Lewis, he had taken Jack, Lily, and Rachel and gone into hiding. There were even talks of him not coming back to the BAU at all.

Emily had chosen not to go into hiding with them because she wanted to be near to help bring down Mr. Scratch to bring her family home.

Lorelai thought being in her dad's old office might help her think about what to do next. Figure out what her dad would do in this situation.

Emily had gone to Mexico with Rossi and Luke. Luke came to the team after Aaron had gone into hiding. Lorelai wasn't sure how she felt about him yet but he seemed like a good agent.

JJ, Morgan, and Garcia were trying to figure out how to help Spencer from here. Lorelai was supposed to be helping them but she couldn't do it. She was doing okay until they realized that this was probably connected to Scratch. This was bad. Scratch was thorough in everything he did. He left nothing behind to tie him to anything he had done which meant Spencer was likely going to take the hit for this one at least for now.

There was a knock on the office door.

Lorelai looked up and standing there with her baby was the nanny. She had sent another FBI agent to go get them and bring them here. If Scratch was going after Spence now then they were all at risk.

"What is going on?" Tabitha the nanny asked.

"I'm sorry Tabitha. Things have gotten complicated and my family is being targeted by a really bad guy putting Hailey and you at risk." Lorelai said she nodded to the FBI agent who had brought them in as a silent thank you.

Tabitha nodded.

"I asked agents to bring you both here to make sure you are both here and safe while I decided what the best way to handle this is," Lorelai said

"Is Spencer okay?" Tabitha asked, Lorelai could hear the fear in her voice and see it in her eyes.

"He's… being targeted," Lorelai said. She sat down on the couch in the office and put her head in her hands. "Sorry. Please sit." She told Tabitha

Tabitha sat with the baby in her lap.

Lorelai took a breath and took Hailey from her and hugged her tight.

Morgan stuck his head in the office.

"Here you are," Derek said.

"Sorry, I just needed to make sure that Hailey is safe," Lorelai said.

"Don't apologize for taking care of your family," Derek said.

Lorelai handed Hailey back to Tabitha.

"Those agents will be outside the door if you need anything," Lorelai told Tabitha.

Tabitha nodded.

Lorelai got up and left the office with Morgan.

"Any updates?" Lorelai asked

"They found the doctor he went to meet," Derek said.

"Okay. What does she say?" Lorelai asked

"Nothing, she was murdered," Derek said.

"Fuck," Lorelai said with tears in her eyes.

"Hey, Lorelai. We are going to figure this out. We all know Spencer didn't do this," Derek said.

"Has he been able to give more information about what happened?" Lorelai asked.

"A little," Derek said.

"Derek, if he was drugged. He could have done all these things…" Lorelai said

"In theory yes, but that would have been against his will," Derek said.

"I just don't get why he went there and didn't tell me. He lied to me." Lorelai said.

"I might have some answers for you about that," Derek said

"Oh?" Lorelai said.

"Come on, we should go sit to have this conversation," Derek said.

Lorelai went with him to the conference room.

They both sat down.

"I have to ask you a few questions, I don't like this any more than you do but I need to ask you a few questions," Derek said.

Lorelai sighed. "I had no idea Derek, he lied to me too. Since things happened with his mom and he wanted to bring her to live with us and I had to tell him I wasn't okay with it and that it wasn't going to happen things between us have been tense."

"You never told anyone that did you?" Derek asked.

"No. Not even my dad knew about the issues. I know Spencer just wanted to help her. And I get that but I know she has been violent before and I have Hailey to think about. Spencer said he understood and he wanted to keep Hailey and me safe too but I could see in his eyes he was hurt. And I felt awful," Lorelai said.

"You're sure he didn't tell you anything that would give you any idea that he was leaving the country?" Derek asked.

"Derek I promise you if I knew he was going to I would have asked why? I know what the FBI protocol is. He broke that and I wouldn't have let him do that if I had known," Lorelai said.

"Okay, well now I can tell you what we know," Derek said.

Lorelai nodded.

"Spencer went to Mexico to get some sort of medication for his mom that you can't get in the states," Derek said.

"Illegal stuff?" Lorelai asked

"No, not illegal just not FDA approved," Derek said.

Lorelai nodded.

"Apparently some herbal stuff," Derek said.

"Spencer? Looking into herbal remedies?" Lorelai asked

"Apparently he has been giving her it for a while. And it must have been helping for him to go to the lengths he did to get more after she dumped what he had out in a fit of rage," Derek said.

"For fucks sake Spencer," Lorelai said

"Yeah, we are all really confused about all this," Derek said

"He is my husband, he lied to me, for months, he has been to Mexico three times Derek and I knew nothing about it," Lorelai said. "Probably because he didn't think he could trust me with anything to do with his mom anymore…"

"Or, maybe because he didn't want you to be stuck having to lie to anyone, he was protecting you because he knew he shouldn't have been doing what he did the way he did," Derek said.

"If he was going there to get something legal just not FDA approved he didn't do anything wrong that he had to hide," Lorelai said

"He didn't want to deal with the FBI and having to be briefed and having to explain it to them. It's not illegal but it breaks the rules and doesn't look great," Derek said.

"I'm his wife," Lorelai said. "If Penny did something like this how would you feel?"

"I'm not saying you aren't allowed to be angry, hurt, and confused," Derek said. "And when we get him back, and we will I will help you kick his ass."

Lorelai smiled a little.

"What do you want to do right now?" Derek asked

"We know Scratch is behind this. So I need to protect my daughter, and I can't do it alone, not without Spencer," Lorelai said.

"We are going to get Spencer back, but we need your help to do it," Derek said.

Lorelai nodded "I can't protect her and work. I will not leave the nanny alone with her at the house."

"So what are you going to do?" Derek asked

"I don't know… I need your advice," Lorelai said

"I can tell you have an idea what are you thinking?" Derek asked

"I'm thinking about what my dad is doing to protect Jack, Lily, and Rachel," Lorelai said

"I know he tried to convince you to do the same," Derek said.

"I couldn't leave Spencer," Lorelai said. "And Jack was the target, not me, not Hailey, and not Spencer," Lorelai said.

"But that's not the case anymore," Derek said

"No, and I want to stay here and help Spencer but I want to protect my daughter, I have an idea but the mother in me is calling me selfish," Lorelai said.

"What are you thinking?" Derek asked

"Asking my dad to keep Hailey for right now," Lorelai said.

Derek nodded a little.

"But she is barely walking, and I don't want to be apart from her any more than I already am," Lorelai said.

"I can't imagine what you are feeling right now," Derek said. "And I can't make this decision for you."

"But what would you do if you were in my shoes?" Lorelai asked

"You have approved for Hailey and your sitter to stay here right?" Derek asked

"For now, yes," Lorelai said

"Give it a few days, we will get Spencer out of there and he will come home," Derek said.

Lorelai nodded

"Hailey and your sitter are safe here, you can help us help Spencer," Derek said. "One thing at a time."

"I'm so scared Derek," Lorelai said her voice shaking.

"I know," Derek said. "Keeping busy will help your mind off being scared."

Lorelai nodded.

JJ and Penny came into the conference room at that moment.

"Oh, Lorelai are you okay?" Penny asked

Lorelai took a breath and wiped her eyes, "no, but I can't talk about it."

"Right, let's just focus on getting Spencer home," Derek said.

The four of them got to work trying to figure out how to help Spencer.

Eventually, they were able to get Spencer back to the states. He came into the FBI building with Emily, Dave, and Luke. He was handcuffed with his hands in front of him an FBI jacket hiding that fact.

After everyone else had hugged Spencer, Lorelai went over to him and hugged him

"Are you okay?" she asked

"I'm okay," Spencer said.

"Spencer, why didn't you tell me?" Lorelai asked

Spencer looked down he knew he had let her down "I'm so sorry Lor."

"That's not an answer," she said as she gently put a hand on his face.

"I knew what I was doing was shady," he said softly as he looked up at her.

"I should have let you bring your mother home…" Lorelai said.

"No, that has nothing to do with this. I would have done this either way, I want to help my mother but you were right it wouldn't have been safe for Hailey or you if we brought her home," Spencer said.

"We aren't exactly safe now either, and this is a monster we are up against now," Lorelai said

Spencer nodded, "and I made it easy for him to target me."

"He would have found another way, it was only a matter of time," Lorelai said.

Spencer nodded again.

"I have checked in, your mother is doing okay right now," Lorelai said.

"And Hailey?" Spencer asked

"She is here, with Tabitha, in Emily's office," Lorelai said

Spencer nodded.

"I need to know Spencer if you are not telling us anything," Lorelai said.

"I promise you I have told them everything I know, and I didn't do this Lorelai," he said.

"I know, I don't think you did," Lorelai said.

Spencer nodded. "I'm so sorry I let you down."

"It's okay, Spencer. I know you didn't mean for things to happen this way," Lorelai said

"I didn't," Spencer said. "But I know this is going to get worse before it gets better."

"Yeah, probably," Lorelai said.

Spencer took a breath and looked down again

"And I will be here through it all," Lorelai said.

Spencer looked back up.

"You're not the only one who can read people well, in good times and bad, till death due us part," Lorelai said

Spencer nodded, "Can you do something for me?"

"Anything," Lorelai said

"Listen to what your dad wanted you to do, take Hailey, and go into hiding until this is all figured out," Spencer said.

"Spence…" Lorelai said.

"Take Hailey and go into hiding," Spencer said again

"But," Lorelai said

"Please Lorelai, I will not be able to think clearly in jail if I don't know you are safe," Spencer said.

Lorelai took a breath and nodded.

Spencer kissed her and she kissed him back before he was taken away.

Lorelai waited until he was out of sight to break down sobbing.

Rossi went over to her, "hey, it's going to be okay."

Lorelai leaned into him and sobbed

"It's going to be okay," Rossi said hugging her.

"My husband is going to jail for crimes he didn't commit, how is that okay?" Lorelai asked

"Because we are going to prove his innocence and get him out and it will be okay," Rossi said.

"How do I help him?" Lorelai asked

"By doing what you always do, help us prove his innocence," Rossi said.

"He wants me to go into hiding like my dad," Lorelai said.

Rossi let out a breath and nodded, "are you going to?"

"I don't know, I was considering seeing if Hailey could go be with my dad and staying here but I don't know if I can leave my child without either parent," Lorelai said. "And I want to do what Spencer asked."

Rossi smiled a little. "You've come a long way."

"What do you mean?" Lorelai asked

"You listen to the people who want to protect you," Rossi said

Lorelai chuckled softly.

"Come on, let's go get Hailey and you two are coming to my place for a meal, you can spend the night even if you want," Rossi said. "Jules would love it."

Lorelai smiled, "not fair to bring her into this."

Dave smiled and gently lead her toward Emily's office.

She went in and found Emily with Hailey and didn't see the nanny.

"Where is Tabitha?" Lorelai asked

"She handed her to me and left…" Emily said

"No. No, no, no," Lorelai said as she sank into the couch. "It was so fucking hard to find a nanny we trusted and liked."

"Don't worry about that right now," Rossi said. "Maybe she had to go, she had something to do."

"No Rossi, she quit, I saw the fear in her eyes earlier," Lorelai said.

"Okay, well. Right now you need two are coming home with me, I'm not asking," he said softly.

Lorelai smiled a little and looked at Emily.

"How have you been able to keep yourself together without your husband?" Lorelai asked.

"We have found a way to make it work," Emily said.

"How? You never see him," Lorelai said

"Come on now, your not that naïve," Emily said

"How? That's breaking so many protocols and putting them at risk," Lorelai said

"We make it work," Emily said. "And Spencer asked me to make sure you go into hiding as well."

Lorelai sighed.

"I told him I'd see what I can do, but I'm not going to make it an order," Emily said.

"Thank you," Lorelai said

"But now you should go, get some rest," Emily said.

Lorelai nodded "I won't rest until Spencer is home but I will go." She got up and took Hailey and the diaper bag and headed out with Rossi.
