Snape's fist was clenched as he sat in the Great Hall for breakfast, the food in front of him was untouched, he was not feeling hungry instead he wanted to throw up, he wanted to hurt, to rip his throat, to kill, yes that's what he wanted.
His gaze was as always fixed on the red-haired girl on Gryffindor's table, she was sitting beside the arrogant git Potter, and she was looking at him every now and then and was laughing as he continued speaking to her in an animated manner.

Potter stole a toast from her plate and ate it, she hit him on the arms playfully, but he stole her another toast, she just shook her head and then started stealing his food, Black tried to steal her food when she was focused on Potter but she caught him and with a flick of her wand sealed Black's lips together, making everyone laugh as Black struggled to detach his lips.

Potter put a hand around her shoulder and kissed her temple and she leaned into him, he then took a scone from his plate and feed her with his own hand and she smiled as she ate the scone. He then took a toast and put its half in his mouth when she moved closer to him and bite the toast from his mouth, and after eating it she laughed as Potter pouted, she then pinched both his cheeks as if he was a small child before leaning in and kissing him.

Snape has never seen her like this, so relaxed and care-free of her surrounding, he can't believe she would do this, he thought that this was just her dumb mistake when he saw them over Christmas and other times, he thought just like her previous two dates, this would be over in a week at most. Back when they were friends he had observed that Lily was not much into these things, she was the one who would focus on her classes and lessons, this was not like Lily at all, who didn't liked public attention, but now, now she is drawing attention towards her as she kissed Potter yesterday to announce to the whole school that they were official.

This was not like Lily, shit, surely Potter must have tricked her, there's only this explanation that Potter must have done something, probably forced her into it, manipulated her or given her a love potion, yes, this is what would have happened.

He looked at the two of them, they were looking at each other mischievously, their wands were out, but hidden, but Snape has caught them, he saw them flicking their wand together and then instantly putting it back in their robes and then . . . .

Then one by one each goblet present in the room made a "POP!" sound and colourful gases erupted from them colouring the person sitting nearest to them, everyone including the professors and headmaster was now having colourful faces, and funny looks and everyone laughed looking at other's face, except Snape who growled angrily, but no one heard him over the waves of laughter.

Then there was another loud "pop!" at the Slytherin table and a ball of gas shot up in the air bursting and revealing the words:

GRYFFINDORS ARE THE BEST,
GRYFFINDOR RULES,
SLYTHERIN SUCKS!

And there was another POP! from the teacher's table, from the goblet in front of Minnie and Dumbledore, another ball of gas and another set of words:

CONGRATULATIONS! JAMES POTTER ON MAKING HISTORY!

"I didn't plan that," shouted Sirius, "And neither did we plan to colour everyone's faces."

"This Mr Black is from me and Professor McGonagall for Mr Potter," answered Dumbledore with a wink, indicating the words above him. "As for colouring everyone's face, I have no idea who did that."

"And it will be detention Mr Black, for that last sentence," said Minnie pointing at 'SLYTHERIN SUCKS'

"Well it was worth it," grinned Sirius.

There was another POP! from the Gryffindor table, as Potter raised his wand and the words appeared, though it was lower than other words and small too.

HEY, EVANS, WILL YOU GO OUT WITH ME ON A DATE?

Lily grinned as she too raised her wand and words appeared beneath the one James has made:

YES, POTTER, I WILL GO ON A DATE WITH YOU!

"There was no need of that," said Sirius Black shaking his head, but Lily and Potter just grinned.

Snape knew Lily and Potter did the prank, Lily was a prefect, she hated pranks, and she will never do it, now it was sure that Potter has her under some influence. Lily can never say yes to him, Snape's mind with the reasoning part stopped working as he had only one motive to stop Lily from going on a date with Potter, though he has seen them kissing, has seen them hugging in front of the entire class has seen them talking closely, but he ignored all that Lily must be under some influence, maybe Potter had even put an Imperius curse on her.

"I will meet you at the castle gates," said Lily giving James a peck as she ran up the girls' dorm along with Mary and Marls.

"Come Prongsie, I need to make you presentable for your first date," said Sirius, James thought of telling Sirius that this wasn't his first date but decided against it as Sirius will get angry that James hasn't taken him along to the adventures on the Boxing Day.

"Yeah sure," sighed James, Remus and Peter gave him sympathetic looks.

Sirius was the stylist of the marauders, whenever they had a date, he would take it upon himself to make them look good. Remus and Peter had faced it over the last year and James has faced it in his 4th year. But all three of them agreed that Sirius' styling sense was rather good and each time they had looked way much better than they would when they used to get ready themself.

"Now, first we will decide what you will wear," thought Sirius loudly.

"I can decide that for myself, Padfoot," protested James while Remus and Peter snorted.

After deciding on the dress going for a simple t-shirt, jacket and jeans, Sirius wanted different but James didn't approve of his choices.

"Well, we will have to fix your hair," said Sirius pointing at James' untidy hair. He took a bottle of Sleekeazy's Hair Potion and dumped a large amount on James' hair.

"Hey! Don't do that, I like my hair how it is," protested James but Sirius shook his head.

"Look at my hair Prongsie, just trust me, after all, I have the best hair in the entire school, better than those chicks," said Sirius.

"You do spend an hour in the morning just on your hair after all, not even girls with long hair spend so much time on their hair," snorted Remus and James and Peter laughed while Sirius scowled.

"Don't be jealous Moony, you know even Minnie admires my hair," smirked Sirius.

"Sure she does, that's why she gave you a haircut last month in front of everyone," laughed Peter.

That day Sirius has tried a new style on his hair, which only Marlene and the girls of Sirius-Fanclub liked, when he entered Transfiguration class, Minnie had immediately called him in front and with magical scissors and her transfiguration skills had cut his hair, much to his annoyance as he had spent 2 hours to get the perfect hairstyle.

Lily reached the castle gates early, and Mary and Marls were still behind, getting ready, Lily didn't like doing makeup and all those things, she preferred natural looks and James too liked it that way. She has hoped as like their previous visits James will arrive soon, so they could leave before everyone but today he was late, Lily had an idea that Sirius must have caught him, she smiled as she remembered a grumpy-looking, but well-dressed Peter going to date last month was dressed by Sirius.

She leaned against the wall by her side as she saw a few excited third years going towards the village after being checked by Filch, only third years were excited to go this early.

She was humming a song, looking out towards the different shapes of clouds when someone tapped on her, she turned happily thinking to see James but her face dropped as she saw Snape standing there, she immediately took a few steps backwards, he was a death eater now.

She looks at him with disgust, "What?" she asked angrily.

"Lily, Potter is not the right person for you," said Snape immediately. "He is still an arrogant bully, he is a bad person, he will hurt you and leave you when he has got what he wants from you. You are blinded."

"I am blinded? James is bad? And what do you mean 'he will leave you when he has got what he wants from you'? Who are you to say anything to me?" asked Lily angrily.

"I am your friend, and Potter is just using you to fulfil his desires, once he will use you, he will throw you aside like others, he is just playing with you, and you are not able to see it," said Snape.

"First you are no friend of mine, and hold your tongue, you have no right to say those things, just because you hate James doesn't everyone hates him. And it is you who are not able to see clearly, first go and get your eyes checked, oh sorry get your brain checked then you might able to think properly," snapped Lily as she turned to leave but Snape caught her wrist.

"He has done something to you, he has changed you, he might have used a love potion or Imperius curse on you, you are not like this Lily, you used to hate him and his pranks, and now you are helping him? But don't worry Lily I will help you," said Snape as Lily tried to remove her hand from his grasp, but was failing, she thus used her other hand to get her wand.

"People change Snape, and so have I, I am not gloomy, I like to have fun, and James hasn't got me under any curse or potion because he doesn't need to," shouted Lily." She was about to draw her wand and hex him when a girl came and pointed her wand at Snape's throat.

"Leave her hand Snape and back off, or else you will not be able to use those hands again," said Amy angrily, Fiona just behind her with her wands pointed at Snape too, Lily too had her wand out now.

Snape let go of Lily's hand, but didn't move, "Why don't you understand Lily? I am helping you, I want your well-being, I am your friend, but you are not listening to me," he said angrily.

"Ha ha ha, a death eater wanting the well-being of a mudblood, and saying he is being a friend of a mudblood when he has joined the organization that wants to kill people like me, nice joke," shouted Lily.

Snape ignored her and ignored three wands pointed at him. He has to make his point, he only knew that.

"Lily, you don't have to go with Potter, I know he has somehow forced you into it, by threatening or by power, or money or curse or potion, but you don't have to, I am powerful now, powerful than any other student in the castle, you don't have to be afraid of Potter or anyone," he said desperately while raising his chest.

Lily looked at him as if he was the most disgusting thing ever, his words and ideas were just as disgusting as him. She was about to answer him and then hit him when a familiar voice spoke from behind Snape, which Lily can recognize anywhere, the voice was angry but he was suppressing it.

"You are right Snivellous, she doesn't have to be afraid of me or anyone, but not because you think you are more powerful than everyone but because she is a powerful witch, a duelling champion, she doesn't needs anyone to protect her she is strong enough to protect herself and others around her," said James and a smile appeared on Lily's face the moment her eyed locked with his, she smiled that he trusts her this much, and thinks she is capable to take care of herself and others. "Now, fuck off, or you will face her wrath and taste how powerful her hexes are."

"And one more thing Snivellous, not everyone wants power or is hungry for it like you, some people want love and friendship, and that's what is enough for them," said Lily intertwining her hands with James'.

Snape looked at their joined hands with disgust and turned to leave, "You will understand how important power is soon when you will face the real world," he said over his shoulder.

"But we already have the most powerful weapon, dear Snivellous, more powerful than the mark on your left arm," smiled James, Snape stopped and turned to face James. "You think that mark on your hand makes you powerful, but you are wrong, the most powerful weapon is 'Love' and to be precise 'true love' and not 'obsessive love.'"

Snape looked at James with disgust before leaving.

"Thanks for the help, Amy," smiled Lily, "and Fiona."

Both the girls smiled at her, "We were helping him actually, otherwise you would have sent him to the hospital," said Amy, all four of them laughed.

"That's true," laughed Lily.

"We'll meet you both in Three Broomsticks then, Amy and Fiona," smiled James as he led Lily into the Hogsmeade. "You okay, Lils?"

"Yeah, I am okay, but he just spoilt my happy mood," said Lily sadly.

"Well then let's cheer you and make you happy again," said James stopping and turning to Lily, who smiled widely as James leaned in to kiss him, her hands snaked around his neck while his one hand cupped her cheek, fingers in the hairs, while other at her back pulling her closer. Lily slid her hands into his hair, it felt different and a little oily, she broke the kiss and pulled back to look at his hair, which looked as though someone had tried to iron it but had failed miserably, she laughed.

James looked at her confused, "What?"

"What have you done to your hair, it looks funny, well it looks funny always but is looking funnier now," she laughed.

"I didn't want to but..."

"Sirius forced you?"

"Yeah," sighed James.

"I will fix it," grinned Lily as she placed her hand in his hair and ruffled his hair, she took a step back after she was done to admire her work. "It's better now."

"So, can we go now? Now that you have messed my hair," asked James grinning.

"Yes, and I liked playing with your hair, you know I wanted to do it since we were in the first year," confessed Lily.

"Really?" asked James amazed.

"Yeah, but I didn't do it because it would boost your ego," said Lily as James placed his hands around her waist.

"Well, now you can do it whenever you want because my ego is already skyrocketing now that Lily Evans has agreed to go on a date with me in front of the whole school and has confessed she liked some part of me since before we became friends in summer," said James.

"As I have already made a confession and your ego is already skyrocketing, one more confession won't hurt I guess," smiled Lily.

"And that will be?"

"I had a crush on you since the time we started practising for the duelling championship," she said and looked at him to see his reaction, he was shocked.

"Really? Then why don't you say so?"

"Because you were different when you used to be around others and were different when you used to be alone with me, it was at that time I saw your other side and realized who you really are, I used to hope each time we were alone that, this time never ends because once you were used to be back among others you used to act like a prat. I prayed each night, that you would start acting normal in front of others like you used to when we were alone."

"Yeah, I too used to hope those times never end, but I am glad they did because now I can do this," he said as he kissed her.

"Come, let's go in there, I need to buy some quills, auto-correct ones to be precise, as some idiot used all of mine," said Lily pulling him into the shop.

Soon as more and more students arrived the Hogsmeade village was crowded with students, James and Lily, however, enjoyed after much thinking they decided to go to Madam Pudifoot's shop but they left within 10 minutes, it wasn't their kind of place.

They roamed around the village looking at new items that were put on sale, they had decided to meet others in three broomsticks, at last, however after one hour when they were exiting Honeydukes, Mary and Marls caught up with them.

"I know you both are on a date, but we need to show Lily, a dress we have just saw," said Mary.

"Can't she see it later?" asked James frowning at them.

"No, and you both can leave apart from each other for ten-twenty minutes," said Marls shaking her head.

"You can come with us too," said Mary.

"Into a girls' clothing shop? No, I would pass it," said James.

"Okay, then we will meet you in three broomsticks along with others. Let's go Lils, you will love it," said Marls.

"Okay, see you in twenty minutes," said Lily to James giving him a kiss on the cheek as she left with Mary and Marls excitedly as she listened to them, James smiled as he saw her go and turned to find his buddies.

"They will be probably at Zonko's," he said to himself as he proceeded to Zonko's shop but was disappointed to find that they weren't there, though he brought a few pranking items.

He then go to Dervish and Banges, which sold all sorts of magical instruments and stuff, he had to buy a few things from there so as to help himself in healing and massaging the hurts he used to get after the full moon.

There he found Amy and Fiona looking at some latest products, he thought of not disturbing them, so he himself silently looked at the magical objects, he was looking at a box, he picked it up and it got stuck to his fingers, he tried to remove it but failed, he groaned in frustration and looked around for the shopkeeper who was showing circular plates which get cleaned by itself to few younger students.

"Do you need help with that?" asked Fiona as she and Amy saw him struggling.

"Yes, please, I didn't read the instruction which says not to touch with bare skin," he groaned.

Fiona pointed her wand at the box and muttered a spell the box reattached from his fingers and returned to its original position.

"Thanks," he smiled at her.

"No, problem, actually both of our hands got stuck with it too earlier," said Amy.

"What is it for anyways?" asked James as he looked at the boxes.

"They contain strong glues, to attach portraits, photos, and decorations on walls and ceilings, they don't affect clothes though, so we have to wear gloves before using them," answered Fiona.

"Anyways, where is Lily?" asked Amy.

"She has gone to see some clothes with Mary and Marlene, we are to meet at three broomsticks in 20 minutes, which means 5 minutes from now," said James checking his watch.

"Well we have to just pay for these items and then we can go together," said Fiona.

"Yeah, I will just grab a few items I need," said James as he searched for the massaging ball and lotion for every type of cut box, and after the shopkeeper was free he paid for it and left the shop with Amy and Fiona, they were talking about the retirement of the old divination teacher, Professor Videntis Predittore.

"She is retiring after teaching for 59 years, she is older than any other teacher," said Amy.

"Her lessons used to be very boring, to be honest," said James.

"She is said to be one of the few true seers along with the Trelawneys," said Fiona.

"Yeah, they say she has made 24 correct predictions through her prophecies, wonder who will Dumbledore hire next year," said James.

"I will not be studying it so it does not matter to me, I am just as good at divination as. . ." but before Amy could finish her sentence there were several loud bangs all around them and they were thrown off their foot, the three fall several feet behind landing with a thump.

James immediately took out his wand and stood, the roof of the shop they were about to pass had exploded and was on fire, and the same was the condition of many other buildings, the air was soon filled with smoke, and screams of people, James found Amy and Fiona, the latter of whom have injured leg and she wasn't able to stand on her legs properly. Ame and Jamws helped her up.

"What the fuck just happened?" said James.

"Death Eaters," gasped Amy as she pointed at two hooded figures at the end of the path, people were running in panic. James' blood froze.

"Let's get out of here," said James as the three of them walked in opposite directions as they could, Fiona was not able to walk properly, though she walked as fast as she could, but they had barely walked ten feet when they saw another death eater ahead of them, they were trapped.

"Let's take cover there," he said pointing at a table.

The death eater was now firing spell at the students who were trying to run past him.

James pointed his wand at him and shot a stunning spell, it hit its hood, which was thrown back and revealed a man with silver hairs. "Fuck."

Soon two death eaters apparated 10 feet from them and put the building to fire, before they saw James and Amy and an injured Fiona, they laughed at them. "Fiona take cover."

James casted a shield charm around themself, the three of them were now trapped, and there was no route to escape. "We have to fight if we want to live," he said to the other two girls.

James stepped forward and engaged in a duel with two death eaters alone, but soon Amy joined him, James' mind was split in three, first Lily, second to get them out of here, and third to send a message to Dumbledore.

"Cover me for a few moments," he shouted to Amy as he conjured a translucent and thick shield charm around them. He thought of the laughing face of Lily, "Expecto Patronum," a stag appeared, he then placed the wand at his mouth, "' Attack in Hogsmeade many death eaters, please help!' go send this message to Dumbledore as fast as possible." The stag turned into a ball and flew into the air. At that exact moment, James' shield broke, as two strong spells hit it.

James pointed his wand at one of the Death Eaters' legs and a rope tied his leg, the DE fell to the ground, and James started attacking the other, who sent a spell at Amy and it hit her straight in the chest and she fell to the ground panting, James stood in front of Amy to shield her and started firing spells at the DE, and successfully disarmed him and then stupefied him, the other DE has got rid of the ropes and was standing but James quickly sent another stunner at him and then tied both of them together in ropes.

"Can you walk Amy?" he asked helping her to her feet, she nodded. James then healed Fiona's leg with a spell he knows and the three of them walked forward, wands raised and alert.

There was a bang behind them, they turned to see flames rising in the air, and then James' heart stopped the dark mark was hanging in the sky, it was near three broomsticks.

"Dementors," shouted Fiona, James too saw three dementors were going towards that place, and there was a high chance his friends would be there.

"Expecto Patronum!" shouted James, the stag appeared in front of him. "Go and find Lily, stay near her and others, Go!" The stag ran towards that direction. "We should keep moving."

They walked 20 feet and saw two third years holding each other and crying, James ran forward towards them.

"Hey, it's all right, you are safe, let's get you to the castle," said James to them, he was bent to talk to them when he heard Amy shriek, he turned, standing near him was a death eater and two were standing near Amy and Fiona.

"Are they safe? Kids are crying, I love it," laughed the DE near James, and before James knew he was engaged in a duel with the DE.

"Someone has died" cried Mary as she and Lily ran away from the dark mark.

"It's three broomsticks, oh no," said Lily, her heart sinking, James must be there, Marls has been pulled away by Sirius somewhere just before the attack, Lily and Mary were approaching the shop when suddenly there had been blasts all around they had faced a death eater, which Lily had stunned and tied.

"We should keep moving, we can't help now," said Mary tears falling from her eyes, Lily nodded.

The two girls were walking when suddenly the temperature around them fell, and sadness and hopelessness filled the air. Lily shivered, her heart sinking. "Are you feeling cold too?"

"Yes," Mary whispered, then she saw a black hooded figure floating towards them, "Stupefy!" but it didn't stop the figure.

"Dementor," said Lily, she too fired several spells at it but failed to stop the approaching figure, "Fuck, do you know Patronus charm?" she asked in a hurry to Mary who shook her head as she too sent another stunner at the figure now 10 feet from them. "Expecto Patronum," said Lily nothing happened. "I have never used it before just know the spell," she cried and then both of them fell to the ground the death eater over them.

"We are going to die," cried Mary as she try to back away but failed. The happiness and life were sucked out of them when suddenly a silver stag approached them and attacked the death eater, the death eater flew away, and the stag started circling Lily and Mary.

Lily felt warmth and hope return to her, she looked at the stag and then realized that it was James' Patronus.

"That bastard didn't teach me this spell," cursed Lily as she got to her feet and helped Mary to her feet. She was shaking, the dementor has attacked her first. "Are you okay Mary?"

"Yes, just feeling very weak, it was like life being sucked out," said Mary and Lily nodded.

"You know how to produce a Patronus, but let's see how good you are at duelling," said a figure appearing in front of them.

Both the girls shrieked and jumped back, two Death Eaters were standing in front of them, and Lily was engaged in a duel with them, she recognized this voice as the Carrow sister.

Lily cast a shield charm around herself and Mary, the latter was weak but was still helping Lily as much as she can. Lily was focusing on attacking, the stag was still circling her, giving her hope, that she has to fight and get back to James.

Her shield broke and Mary hit the ground, Lily didn't lose her focus but the DE did as they continued laughing. She sent a dozen of arrows at them, but they were late to bring up the shield and many arrows injured them, they backed away and Lily advanced on them. She used the bombard spell and the death eaters were thrown in the air and landed on the ground, groaning, Lily advanced further, disarming one of them, they crawled backwards as one of them tried to hit Lily with Crucio curse but Lily ducked it, she stunned him and then stunned the other and tied them in a strong rope throwing their wands far away from them before running back to Mary.

She bent to her knees and felt Mary breathe, she was alive she used a spell and brought her back to consciousness.

"It's hurt," groaned Mary and then Lily saw a few drops of blood falling on Mary's cloth, Lily's shoulder was burning, she touched the spot, there was a deep cut, and the part of her cloth was soaked in blood. "Oh my god, Lily you have several cuts on your face."

Lily now realized that she too was injured from the fighting, the back of her head was aching, she has hit the ground when she has fallen due to Dementor.

"We have to escape from here first," said Lily as Mary got to her feet, she was shaking badly.

"I don't think I can walk fast, and you can't support me, you go run ahead, and bring help," said Mary.

"Don't be stupid, I am not leaving you, and I too can't walk fast," said Lily.

They heard another blast from a few blocks away, another building started burning. They could hear screams and shout from there.

The two girls were walking slowly, the streets were no longer recognizable, and many people were on the ground, whether alive or unconscious, they don't know and didn't want to, they were already very weak.

The stag was walking near them, Lily felt tears in her eyes but was relaxed that James was alive, the Patronus was her source of power, as James has said, "at times maybe I won't be by your side, I can't promise that, but I promise that you will remain strong because I will make sure of that.' And he has fulfilled his promise, but she still wanted to meet him, hug him and never let him go.

The sky was darkening, and they were walking slowly, holding on to each other, they heard a footstep approaching them, and both the girls froze on the spot, they pointed the wand toward the noise.

Lily casted a shield around her and Mary as she prepared herself for another round of the fight and then there was a DE, he smiled when he saw the girls, he sent a stunning spell but it was deflected by the shield, he then sent a cruciatus curse, Lily and Mary jumped to their sides as the shield broke.

Lily casted another shield immediately, while Mary sent a stunner at him, both the girls were shaking as they fought the DE, and then they heard several footsteps, if they were more DE then they were surely going to die.

But that wasn't the case, Sirius, Marls, Remus and Peter approached them, the death eater didn't pay attention to them until one red beam of light passed him, he got distracted and Lily stupefied him, he fell to the ground, and them Remus tied in his ropes.

"Thank god, you all are alright, we were worried," said Marls hugging both the girls who winced at the touch.

It was now that Lily saw that all four of them were injured too, Sirius was most injured with cuts all over his chest and hands, his face covered in bruises.

"His Patronus is here, but where is James?" asked Sirius, and Lily's heart sank and she panicked James was still not with her neither he was with others. "We weren't able to reach three broomsticks as we were buying a cauldron and then we caught up with Remus and Peter."

"He is safe as his Patronus is here, he is a good dueler, and he will be fine," said Remus, and Lily felt relaxed.

"We should leave, and reach the castle, James may be there," said Peter, his face white.

"And we might find who died," said Mary.

"Professor Murphy," replied Remus.

"What? Are you sure?" asked all of them horrified.

"We were near three broomsticks when it happened, the death eaters taunted and abused her, did you know she was a vampire, she had deserted them and has joined Dumbledore, they were angry at her, she was protecting us when. . . when . . . " Peter trailed off, tears falling.

"When one of them used the killing curse on her," said Remus.

"Let's continue walking," said Marls.

The six of them began walking towards the castle, with their wands held tight, ready for any attack.

And then they heard a bang, all of them turned and saw another dark mark rising in the sky as the stag in front of Lily disappeared.

"NO!" cried Lily as she jumped at the spot where the stag was moments ago in hope of catching it but the stag was gone.

"Lily we should keep moving," said Remus his face white as a ghost.

"I am going to find James," cried Lily as she started to move toward the dark mark, but Remus caught her.

"No, Lily it's dangerous, and it might be that James lost focus, we should go back to the castle," said Remus.

The bracelet was glowing brighter, "No, I am going to find James," cried Lily. "He would do the same for me."

Jame conjured burning chains and attacked the DE with them, he had to deal with him fast and then help Amy and Fiona, but the DE, repelled the chains turning them into dust. The DE then hit James with a cruciatus which he was able to avoid by inches, but the next spell hit him on the head and he felt the spot burning, but he didn't lose control.

He heard a painful scream from where Amy and Fiona were standing, his anger rosed, and the two kids were crying behind, him, James has to do something fast, he remembered a scene from a comic book. And then with a flick of the wand around 50 bats emerged from his wand and started revolving around the DE, who shrieked, James used it as an opportunity to defeat him, he sent three spells back to back at the DE, and when the bats disappeared, the DE was on the ground tied from head to neck in chains.

James turned to Amy and Fiona, and saw Fiona lying on the ground, Amy was screaming, as b both the DE laughed, one has the wand pointed at Amy, the laugh was of a maniac woman, James instantly hit the DE with a spell, she was thrown back, her, ask removed, Bellatrix Lestrange was the one torturing Amy. Bellatrix however got immediately to her feet and began duelling with James.

James was throwing jinxes after jinxes at her, she continued fighting him while laughing, her many spells hit James, he felt his thighs tear open, a deep cut appearing there, and then one spell hit his chest, and the spit began to pain.

James' two jinxes hit Bellatrix, and she was thrown backwards but she continued laughing, James advanced at her and sent a stunning spell at her but she deflected it, and then James heard Amy shriek.

"What's your name," he heard the other DE asking Amy.

"Amy.." she panted.

"Full name and tell truth or I will torture you again," said the DE.

"Amy Glen," answered Amy, crying.

"A mudblood," laughed the DE.

James' heart began to beat faster, and he started attacking Bellatrix faster, but she was too good for him, she easily deflected all his spells

James had to use an advanced spell if he has to save Amy, he flicked his wand in a complex way, and blinding light after blinding light hit Bellatrix, she shrieked and covered her eyes, James used the moment and hit her full-on chest and she was thrown backwards on the ground and she shrieked again, James turned to the DE, who was laughing at Amy and torturing her, but before James could do anything the DE spoke the words which froze James.

"Avada Kedavra," said the DE, a jet of green-ray hit Amy, and her screams ceased as she hit the ground and went numb.

"He has said not to kill anyone Rodulphus," shouted Bellatrix.

"She was a mudblood and it will send a message to everyone," laughed Rodulphus, as he pointed his wand in the air and a dark mark appeared, above him.

James has seen many times the killing curse used, but it was in memories, this was the first time he has seen it being used in real.

"He is calling, we should go, take Rabastan, we are leaving, our work is done here," said Bellatrix.

James threw a stunner at Rodulphus but he disappeared and so has Bellatrix, James turned to look at the DE he has stunned and saw a black figure catching the DE on the ground and disappearing.

Everything has gone silent, he could only hear the sobbing of two boys and some distant screaming, he was looking at the figure of Amy, he knew she was dead, he has seen the spell hit her full in the face.

He looked at Fiona and walked over to her, she was breathing, she was alive. James didn't know what to do, he slowly walked over to Amy and sat on his knees beside her limp body, her pulse has stopped, and she was no longer breathing.

He heard the two boys crying, he stood and walked to them, he was limping, and his whole body was aching.

"It is okay, now it is over they are gone, are you both okay?" he asked them.

"He used a spell and I felt a lot of pain, my entire body is aching," cried one of the boys.

"My hand is paining I fell on it, my leg has burned from the fire," said the second boy.

James looked at the figure of Amy, he can't leave her here. He conjured two stretchers, on one was the dead body of Amy and on the other was the unconscious Fiona, James didn't have the courage to wake her up and tell her that her girlfriend is dead.

The two stretchers floated behind him, "Let's get back to the castle, keep your wands out," said James his voice brittle, he wanted to just run away somewhere and bury himself, he has just lost a close friend and wasn't sure how his other friends are, someone else has died before, the dark mark was the prove, his heart racing fast, and then he could feel his eyes watering but he didn't cried, his entire body was aching and hurting, it was hard to continue walking and with these two stretchers it was more difficult, but he didn't stopped.

Soon a figure approached him, he raised the wand at it, and soon Minnie appeared she has some bruised on her face, she was looking horrorstruck, and there was soot all over her.

"Potter, who is on the stretchers?" she asked with wide eyes.

James hasn't lowered his wand yet, he was looking at her, she was sad, there were marks of dried tears, "Who died near three broomsticks?"

"We will talk about it later," she said sternly. The two-third years looked at her fearfully.

"NO! Answer now, please," cried James.

"Professor Murphy is dead, and I don't know who the other person is, I am going there, Aurors are on their way," she replied.

James lowered his wand, "You don't have to go there, she is with me."

"Two people?" she asked horrified.

"No, Fiona is just unconscious, it's . . it's Amy only," said James.

McGonagall gasped, "I will take them to the hospital along with these two and then will return for you."

"I am okay, Professor, I can return on my own, take them," he replied.

The professor looked at him and then the two boys and then the girls, she nodded and then by using some magic she hold all of them near her, there was a green flame and she disappeared along with them.

James was now alone, he continued walking, his mind was blank, he didn't feel any other pain but just grief of losing a friend and failing to save her.

He thought of Lily worrying whether she was safe or not, he was with her all the time but wasn't with her in this dark time.

"James," called Lily, each moment was making her more nervous.

The other 5 were behind her, wands ready, looking for signs of life, they had helped several students and people.

They had met Dorcas, she was injured too, but there was a fire burning in her eyes, she had knocked down two death eaters, she had asked them to return to the castle but Lily being the stubborn she is, didn't listen to her, Lily was just focused on James, to find him, praying to every god that let him be safe.

She cursed herself for leaving him. She searched for him, and the moment his stag disappeared after the Dark Mark has appeared, she has been afraid.

And then she saw him walking alone, towards them, she recognized him even in the darkness, his face was badly messed up, he was limping, but she had recognized him and ran towards him, she felt alive when his eyes met with hers, but the moment she saw the look in his eyes she knew something worse has happened, but it didn't matter, at least he is alive.

"James! I was afraid," she cried as she hugged him tightly.

James winced but hugged her, and both of them relaxed slightly in the warmth of the other.

"I am sorry I left you, I was worried sick about you, thank Merlin you're alive," he said hugging her tightly and then noticing the deep cut on her shoulder. "Lily you have a cut on your shoulder, it's deep."

"It's nothing, and don't be sorry I and Mary are alive because you sent your Patronus to me, there was a dementor who attacked us and then the stag came and the dementor retreated, then there were death eaters too, we defeated them, then the others came, helped us, but then . . . then there was a bang and another dark mark and . . .. and .. your patrons . . . disappeared . . .. I was afraid. . . I thought you . . you were. . .dead," she cried into his chest. "I am so glad you are alive." She relaxed a little. "Where were you? You were coming from that direction, the dark mark was there, I am glad you are. . . "

James rubbed her back, "Amy is dead," he whispered and Lily froze.
