Arabelle's body hung limply from Charlie's arms. Him and Bill were now fighting their way through the sea of crowds, going against the tide. Bill who was leading the way was getting beaten and bashed around badly. One man collided with him so hard blood bag an to pour from Bill's nose.
"Which way is the tent?!" Bill cried back to Charlie trying to stem the flow of blood pouring from his nose.
"I dunno where we are, I can't tell" Charlie yelled back. Sweat was starting to run down his face from the heat of the fires and the weight of Aabelle's body.
They pushed against the crowd for what felt like an hour before they found their tent. Charlie dropped Arabelle onto the sofa in exhaustion.
"I'm going to find dad and Percy," Bill said not pausing to rest "You revive Arabelle then we'll go and find the kids." Bill said before running back out the tent.
Charlie looked down at Arabelle's lifeless body. He had watched her sleeping hundreds of times when they were younger but now she looked different. Her face looked as though she had been in pain. Her limbs twisted and tangled at odd angles. But she was alive at least. He took the three wands out his back pocket, having taken the beauxbatons girl's wand Arabelle had been using too, and with his own wand revived Arabelle.
A faint moan escaped her lips as if releasing all the pain she had been feeling from her body. Charlie bent down so he was eye level to her and smiled.
"Hey" he said.
She looked back in confusion as if she didnt know Charlie, she looked around dazed, before focusing back into his eyes, comprehension filled her own eyes as they widened and she sat bolt upright in sudden panic. "Charlie!" She cried, "the girls, what happened to the girls?!"
"Arabelle stay calm, they are fine they got away they ran off to the woods."
"No I've got to go and find them, they're my responsibility" she got to her feel at wavered dizzily as Charlie caught her arm to steady her, he pulled her down onto the sofa. We will, but just sit a minute. Besides we've still got to find the kids in the woods anyway."
"Theyre alone too?!" She said panicked. "Are they okay?"
"They will be fine Arabelle just calm down" he said whispered soothing into her ear, stroking her hair. After a few minutes he sat down next to her and she lay her head on his shoulder.
"Arabelle..." Charlie started.
But just then Bill returned to the tent followed by Percy the twins and Ginny.
They all ran over to the sofa Arabelle and Charlie were sitting on, Ginny wrapped her arms tightly around Charlie and Arabelle's necks.
"Are you alright Arabelle?" Percy asked. " Bill told us what happened."
"I'm good thanks Percy," she said hugging Ginny back tightly. She got up from the sofa as if nothing had happened moments before, and reached up to hug the twins reassuringly, checking if they were hurt before continuing, "but I really should go find the girls, they must be terrified." She said turning back, "Hold on," she said looking around "where are the others?"
"They got sepperated from us in the panic" George said looking guilty.
"I'm sure they're fine, Dad is out there looking for them" Bill said placing a large saucepan of water on the stove and summoning mugs to make tea for everyone. Arabelle walked over to the kitchen to help Bill, needing something to distract her.
They all sat around the room in silence for what felt like an hour before Mr weasley returned with Harry, Ron and Hermione. They all pulled up chairs and sat down as Arabelle and Bill got up and handed out mugs of tea to them.
"Thank you Arabelle," Mr weasley said "oh and to put your mind at rest we saw the beauxbatons girls with the head teacher at...well what's left of your tent. They looked shaken but unhurt."
"Oh thanks Arthur I should go and check on them, ill be back as soon as I can though" she said glancing around the room and catching the apprehensive look on Charlie's face.
Mr weasley sat up straighter in his chair. "You really shouldn't go alone Arabelle it's still dangerous out there, Charlie go with her."
Charlie picked up Ginny who was still sitting on his lap and she moved across the room towards Bill.
"No it's okay you don't have to" she started.
"Charlie looked confused as to weather move towards her or sit back down, was she trying to avoid being alone with him? Or was he just paranoid?
"Yes he does" said Mr weasley matter of factly, and with that charlie moved across the room and they left the tent together.
For while they both walked in silence and uncomfortable gap between them.
"So..." Charlie said awkwardly, running one hand through his hair and shoving the other into his pocket. "Oh right, your wand, I picked it up for you, and here's the other one" he said handing them over.
"Oh!" She replied in surprise. "Thanks Charlie, I totally forgot I lost it." She smiled shyly towards him, before turning and walking again in silence.
"Yeah you uh left it on my bed" he said quietly. Thinking back to earlier that night and the drunken state Arabelle had been in when she had told him she still loved him.
Arabelle said nothing for a moment, looking at the ground too embarrassed to meet his gaze. "Right. Yeah. Sorry about that"
"Dont be." Charlie racked his brain for something to say. Anything to say to take away this awful unnatural feeling between them but nothing happened. He felt pressure pushing down on his lungs as he longed for the ease he had always felt when Arabelle was with him. Had she meant what she said, or was she too drunk to even remember properly?
As if she had read his mind she stopped and turned to face him. "I meant it you know, what I said, I know I should have gone about it better but I had to let you know. I do still love you. I never stopped." She said quickly before turning away and walking ahead of him.
Charlie stood there open mouthed for a moment. A bubbly feeling erupted in his stomach and he smiled widely before running to catch up to her. "Do you mean that?" He asked.
Arabelle smiled but continued walking "I mean that" she said.
He threw his arm over her shoulders and kissed her on top of the head. She wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him, burying her face into his chest as they walked awkwardly wrapped around each other.
That night amidst all the terror and destruction the two of them stood together, reunited as lovers and best friends.
Even if it was only destined to last a few short hours.
