Owl's Well That Ends Well
As the sun was beginning to set in order to make way for the night sky, Spike was busy gathering some items that his friends would need to be a rare nighttime phenomenon. Spike had just put the telescope into the wagon, which already had a nicely folded red checkered tablecloth inside as Twilight and Comet were waiting excitedly from upstairs.
"This meteor shower tonight is gonna be amazing!" Twilight said excitedly.
"Awesome!" Spike agrees, collecting come bananas and tossed them into the wagon.
"You know, this shower only happens once every 100 years." Twilight told him as Spike was juggling some apples he was gonna pack into the wagon.
"A centennial celebration!" Spike remarked as he was beginning to lose control of his juggling, but Comet used his magic to levitate the apples into the wagon. "Thanks, Comet."
Comet confirmed with a nod.
"We better get a move on." Twilight said.
"Don't want to be late!" Spike added as Comet helped him by levitating the bowl of freshly made punch into the wagon without problems. "Phew, thanks again, Comet."
Comet then nods as he walks next to his mother.
"Spike, did you grab my quill and ink?" Twilight asked when she and her son began to make their way down.
"Check!" Spike said as he tossed them into the wagon.
"Scrolls?" Twilight asked next.
"Check!" Spike answered as he tossed two scrolls into the wagon. "I've also packed a telescope, apples, bananas, fruit punch, and my freshly baked homemade triple decker nut-crazy vanilla cream cookies!"
Spike listed off the items with his fingers before lifting a large plate of cookies, but he had some cookie crumbs all over his mouth. Twilight and Comet took noticed and giggled.
"We can see that." Twilight remarked as Spike noticed the crumbs while licking them off. Twilight and Comet make their way downstairs. "Once again, you've read my mind, Spike. And that's why you are my number one assistant."
"I'm sorry, I didn't hear you." Spike said, grabbing the wagon and followed them.
"That is why you are my number one assistant." Twilight repeats.
"Missed that! Huh..." Spike teased.
"I said..."
Twilight then realized that Spike was just having fun with her as she turned around to face with and giggled.
"Come on, let's get going." Twilight said, but stopped just as they were approaching the front door as she faces Spike again. "Wait! I almost forgot! I wanna bring the 'Astronomical Astronomer's Almanac to All Things Astronomy'."
"The Astronomo-lomo Homono what?" Spike asked curiously, stood blankly while shook his head in confusion.
"The Astronomical Astronomer's Almanac to All Things Astronomy. It's a book that has the information about stars, moons, planets, the universe..." Comet explains.
"Right, Check!" Spike said as he rushed into another room, climbed up a ladder and found the book in just a few seconds.
Since the book was covered in dust, Spike used his hand to wipe it off, but the dust got up in his nose.
"Ah...Ahh...Ahhh...Ahhhh...!"
Spike was about to sneeze, but managed to stop himself with a sigh of relied, but then...
"AAHH-CHOOO!"
With a giant sneeze, Spike accidentally roasted the entire contents of the book to crisp. Spike begins to panic, unsure of how he would explain what happened to Twilight.
"Hey! What's taking my number one assistant so long!" Twilight called out as Spike just tucked the destroyed book back on the shelves and heads back to her.
Some ominous music could be heard as a sign that Spike couldn't hide what had happened forever...
My Little Pony, My Little Pony
Ahhhh
My Little Pony
I use to wonder what friendship could be
My Little Pony
Until you all share this magic with me
Big adventure,
Tons of fun,
A beautiful heart,
Faithful and strong,
Sharing kindness
It's an easy feat
And magic makes it all complete
You all have my little ponies
Do you know all you're my best friends?
Outside, the stars had already come out to play as the Twilight's friends, the 4 foals, and the CMCs were already sitting at the top of a hill waiting for them as Applejack and Apple Shine approaching the group. There were also a few other ponies there as well to catch the meteor shower. As for Mario, Twilight, Comet, and Spike had gone to the martial arts dojo once leaving the Golden Oak Library and the four were now making their way towards the top of the hill.
"I was sure I put the astronomer's guide back." Twilight pondered since Spike had 'claimed' that he couldn't find it. "The book would've helped me and my son identify planets and stars tonight."
Spike just looked rather nervous as he tried to think of something to say.
"Well...Maybe someone borrowed it?" Spike suggested.
"Maybe." Twilight said, turns to Comet. "Comet, did you borrow it and read it?"
"No." Comet shook his head, not remembering that book. "I only read children's book and education books."
"Hmm...What about you Mario?" Twilight asks. "Did you borrow it and not telling me?"
"Not that book." Mario answered, not remembering that book either. "I don't even take your books out of the library without any permission."
"Besides, you don't need that book." Spike continued. "You can already name all the planets and stars, 'cause you're super smart and astronomically awesome."
"Thanks, Spike, you're such a flatterer." Twilight thanked him.
"Yeah, I'm a sweet talker." Spike replied, causing Comet to roll his eyes in annoyance.
"And a number one assistant, right?" Twilight added.
"Check!" Spike said happily.
"Oh, Spike." Mario said with a chuckle.
They reached the top of the hill. Spike immediately got to work setting up the blanket, a bowl of fruit, the bowl of fruit punch, and some cups to drink for the punch. That was when the rest of their friends arrived to stargaze, Rainbow Dash wasted no time grabbing an apple and began to eat it as Spike set up the telescope.
"Wow, Twilight!" Rainbow Dash said as she continued to munch her apple. "You're lucky to have such a rad assistant. I wish I had someone to do whatever I told them."
"Seriously, mom?" Storm Hawk asks, raised his eyebrow. "Why do you think I help you at home?"
"Hey, you're still my son and my special colt." Rainbow Dash said to her son, messing his mane. "I'm not replacing you for an assistant. That's not gonna change."
"Ooh! Ooh! Me! Me! Me!" Scootaloo said excitedly and bounced on all four of her hooves. "I'll do whatever you want, Rainbow Dash!"
"Oh yeah, pipsqueak?" Rainbow Dash said as she held the apple core in her hooves, dumped it on the grass. "How about taking out the trash?"
"Yes ma'am!" Scootaloo said as she picked up the apple core in her mouth and zoomed away as the other made their way towards the blanket filled with snacks.
"Do we have Spike to thank again for this amazing spread?" Rarity asked as the others gathered around him. "Isn't he simply amazing?"
The others shared their compliments as well, making Spike look rather bashful at being the center of attention.
"Oh, come on." Spike said and then there was a pause of silence. "I said come on."
Though, he gestured for the praises to continue as Pinkie Pie got behind him.
"Little Spikey-Wikey!" Pinkie Pie cooed as she gave him a hoof noogie to his head. "Who knew that big ferocious dragon started off so cutsey wootsy?"
"Spike, you are such a little star that I had to make a little bow tie for you." Rarity said as she used her magic to present Spike with a large jewel studded red bow tie.
Spike smiled as Rarity put it on for him.
"Gosh, you guys are embarrassing me, stop it." Spike said, but then paused again. Deep down, he was loving all the attention. "Twilight, your turn."
"Spike, that's enough." Twilight warned him.
"You had enough attention." Comet adds.
"You don't to get a big head of it." Mario added gently.
"Oh, right, that's enough." Spike said sheepishly.
"Hey, everypony! The show is starting!" Sweetie Belle announces.
Everypony made a mad dash to the top of the hill. Sweetie Belle ducked to avoid the dust cloud before trying to catch up to everypony else. She then carefully climbed on Rarity's back to get a better view. It wasn't long before a huge collection of meteors began to stream across the night sky.
"Wow, that's amazing!"
"It's really cool!"
"Once!"
The other ponies commented as they enjoyed the show together. Spike was sitting comfortable on Twilight's back as they enjoyed the meteor shower together.
"Wow..." They said together.
As the show went on, Spike gave out a loud yawn.
"Huh?" Spike mumbled as he tried to wake himself up as the meteor shower continued.
Once the meteor shower has finished, everypony began to enjoy the punch and party snacks Spike had brought along. They were continuing to chatter as Pinkie Pie tipped the plate and devoured the last three cookies at once.
"Mmm. Wow!" Pinkie Pie said with her face full of cookie crumbs. "Those cookies are delish!"
Mario, Comet, Storm Hawk, Rose Lotus, and Djahli just looked unamused by this and rolled their eyes.
"Spike made them." Twilight told her. "Speaking of, Spike, can you bring us some more punch? Spike?"
Twilight looked around, worried since the baby dragon hadn't answered. But she didn't to search for long before she found him fast asleep with his head inside of the nearly empty punch bowl as he snored, making inside of the punch bowl fogged up from his breathing.
"Oh, poor little thing." Rarity said gently.
"Aww...He's worked himself to the bone." Twilight added with a smile on her face.
"And now the punch has been...'spiked'!" Pinkie Pie added and everyone laughed as Spike just continued to snore.
It wasn't much longer before everypony had returned home. Twilight gently placed Spike into his basket.
"Good night, Spike." Twilight said with a giggle as she tucked him in. "Sweet dreams, number one assistant."
Twilight quietly made her way to Comet's room as she opens the door, quietly approaches to her son, who's sleeping.
"Good night, Comet." Twilight said with a motherly smile, kissed him in the forehead. "Sweet dreams, sweetheart."
She then quietly made her way downstairs. With a piece of paper, ink, quill, and a small candle for light, Twilight got ready to write her latest report on the meteor shower. Mario had gone home to write his own since they each needed to submit their own separate papers for this assignment, but planned on comparing notes in the morning. Twilight sighed contently before getting started on her own paper.
"The Study of Comets." Twilight said as she began to write. "Comets are small, irregularly shaped bodies that are made of nonvolatile grains and frozen gases. They..."
Crrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeak!
Twilight was then taken aback by the sound as she looked behind her to see what it was. A dark shadow flew past the door leading to her balcony as she quickly made her way outside.
"Huh?" Twilight said, puzzled.
Once she found nothing outside that's unusual, she headed back inside and closed the balcony door, but not properly. The door slowly creaked open a bit as Twilight returned to her desk and continued writing.
"...have body structures that are fragile and diverse..."
Crrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeak!
The same shadow quickly flied across the window as Twilight opened it and barely missed seeing what the shadow was. Just then, a cold night wind blew into her room, causing the paper she was writing on to float off her desk.
"Shoot!" Twilight muttered as she tried to chase after her paper, but because she didn't close her balcony door properly, the door opened with the wind and the paper flew away into the night sky.
Twilight just barely missed seeing the shadow again as she watched her paper disappear and then headed back inside.
"Oh...this is a job for Spike." Twilight said nervously, bouncing on her hooves. "If only he were awake..."
"Hoo!"
Twilight then looked at her desk and noticed an owl sitting on top of the desk with the paper inside its beak. The owl dropped the paper and turned around to leave.
"Wait! Don't go!" Twilight said as the owl made a perfect 180 turn of its head to look at her. "Don't be afraid. Thank you for returning my scroll."
The owl then turned the rest of its body to face her when the blew by again.
"Hoo! Hoo! Hoo-hoo!" The owl said as it shivered from the cold wind.
"Gosh, it's cold tonight." Twilight said. "Say, would you like relax in here and keep me company while I work?"
"Hoo! Hoo!" The owl replied as it headed over to the side of the desk to get comfortable.
"Now, where was I?" Twilight as she reread her scroll. "Oh yes...fragile and diverse with a surrounding cloud of material called a coma, that grows in size and brightness as the comet approaches the sun..."
The owl just listened quietly as Twilight continued her report.
The next morning, Twilight went to Comet's room, smiled as she walked to her son, then kissed his forehead and nuzzled him, waking him up. Comet shrugging while he was waking up, opened his eyes.
"Good morning, Mom." Comet said with smile.
"Good morning." Twilight said. "It's time to get up."
Comet then got out of the bed and headed downstairs with his mother, but noticed an owl sitting on the desk. The owl slowly 180 degree turn its head and stared at Comet.
"Whoa!" Comet said, startled a bit. "Um, why is the owl here?"
"Owlowiscious grabbed the scroll when I tried to make report last night." Twilight explains, making breakfast for her and her son. "So, I have him keep me company while I need to submit the assignment."
"'Owlowiscious'? Ooh boy, that's a tongue twister." Comet said which it got Twilight giggled when she heard that.
An owl named Owlowiscious then stared at Comet, curious of the little colt when Twilight finished cooking breakfast.
"It's okay, Owlowiscious, Comet is once a human from another world known as Elijah, but he turned into a pony after he died and a magical labor." Twilight explains to the owl.
Owlowiscious then understands as he flew towards Comet, lands on his back. Until, Comet's magic aura is surrounding him as the new animal spirit appeared and his eyes are starting to turn white. Comet is starting to see the vision of Golden Oak Library, noticed Spike was climbing up the ladder to grab a book Twilight asked, and accidentally burned it by sneezing.
As the vision ended, Comet lands on the floor with a groan, panting heavily which it got Twilight and Owlowiscious worried.
"Comet, are you all right?" Twilight asked.
"Yeah...but for some reason, I'm starting to see visions." Comet said with a pant.
"What kind of visions?" Twilight asks curiously.
"It's almost like I can see the past, not the future." Comet explains.
"Hmm, recognition. Instead of the premonition, you have the opposite which is retrocognition. And that's not the only thing, look behind you." Twilight said, pointing at the animal spirit as Comet turns around, noticed the owl spirit. "It seems you've got a new animal spirit."
"An owl spirit." Comet said in shock. "But how is it possible that I have so many?"
"Maybe it's because of your ancestors culture from your old world." Twilight guessed. "But lets not think about it, you've got school and our breakfast is getting cold."
Comet decided not to pry any further while followed his mother to the kitchen and the owl spirit vanished.
After Comet finished his breakfast and left for school, Spike was still fast asleep in his basket as the sun had already risen high into the sky. He awoke with a start once he saw how bright it was inside the room.
"Huh? Waaah! I overslept!" Spike exclaimed as he look at his clock and then rushed downstairs.
Twilight was busy packing some stuff into her saddlebags as Mario waited patiently for her so they could get going when Spike rushed into the room.
"I know it's already ten, but I'm scaley-tailed and bright-eyed and ready to work twice as fast!" Spike said, earned Twilight and Mario's attention. "Oh, don't be upset, Twilight! And what do you want for breakfast? Oatmeal? How about a sunflower smoothie? Grass pancakes?"
As strange as those last two meals items sound, that's a pony delicacy. Twilight just smiled at him.
"Spike, don't worry." Twilight said.
"But my morning chores..." Spike protested.
"It's okay." Twilight said. "Owlowiscious did them for you."
"Who?" Spike asked, puzzled with his raised eyebrow.
"He's our new junior assistant. He's going to help to out with your chores so you won't be so tired all time." Twilight explained, gathered what she need and walked away.
It got Spike snapped out of his stupor, then followed Twilight.
"Wha...What do we need a junior assistant for?" Spike asked. "I'm not tired. I'd do fine on my own. I don't need sleep. I..."
"Spike, don't worry. He's just here to help a little." Twilight assures him. "Now Mario and I have to go out, so why don't you introduce yourself to Owlowiscious? He's in the library."
"Worried?" Spike said nervously as he began to sweat. "Do I look worried? I'm not worried. Who's worried?"
"You might want to watch out, Spike." Mario warned him. "He's got this...little trick he does with his neck and beady eyes, but he means no harm."
"Uhh...sure...thanks for...the update." Spike said slowly as Mario and Twilight took their leave.
Spike then slowly made his way down the stairs to the area where Owlowiscious was.
"Hello? Hello!" Spike called out when he found the owl just sitting on Twilight's desk.
The owl made a slow 180 degree turn of his head and stared at Spike.
"Whoa! Dude, that's creepy." Spike said as he flinched away in fright before approaching him. "Uh...Hi there, I'm Spike. I'm sure Twilight has told you all about me."
"Hoo." Owlowiscious said.
"Uh, Spike?" Spike repeated. "You know, assistant number one?"
"Hoo?" Owlowiscious repeated again.
"I'm Spike!" Spike snapped, getting annoyed. "And who are you? What are you?"
"Hoo!"
"Who?"
"Hoo!"
"I thought your name was Owlowiscious!" Spike retorted in irritation.
"Hoo?" Owlowiscious asked.
"Okay, 'Hoo', 'Owlowiscious', whatever." Spike said in exasperation. "I'm Spike okay? Look! All you need to know is that I'm number one and you're number two. Got it?"
"Hoo?"
It was all Owlowiscious said in reply. Spike was losing his patience as one of his eyes began to twitch.
"So, a man of mystery, huh?" Spike retorted. "I'm keeping my eyes on you! I've got my eyes in the back of my head too, you know!"
CRASH!
Spike was too busy trying to show Owlowiscious who's boss when he walked right into the front door. Spike was a bit dazed for a bit for he recovered.
"Well, not really, but...You know what I mean!" Spike said angrily as he opened and slammed the door shut.
Outside of the Golden Oak Library, Spike was fuming.
"That bird is out for my job." Spike said angrily. "He wants to be number one. I'll prove to Twilight and Comet that I deserve to be number one, not 'freaky feathers' over there. I won't let him have my job if it's the last thing I do!"
Spike was unaware that Owlowiscious was staring at him from a window with ominous looking eyes.
Later on, Spike was just sitting on a tree branch outside the Golden Oak Library. He was currently reading a book about owls as Twilight was showing off Owlowiscious to the rest of her friends.
"Oh, what a fantastical, flufficious feathery friend!" Pinkie Pie said. "I'm...hooked!"
Everypony laughed at her joke as Spike continued reading his book.
"He's just wonderful." Fluttershy added.
"He's just wonderful." Spike repeated in a mock tone, but was left eating his words when everypony turns to look at him.
He smiled at them sheepishly.
"Uh, yes, wonderful." Spike said, casually before adding under his breath. "He's quite...the charmer."
Though, neither of the 5 foals were buying it and can tell that Spike is letting jealousy get the better of him.
"And Owlowiscious is just such a star, I just had to make this little bow for you." Rarity said before presenting and tying on a bow that's almost identical to the one she had given Spike that day. That got Spike angry.
"Grrr!" Spike growled before crawling inside via a window and slammed it.
Everypony just looked at him blankly.
"What's he all saddle sore about?" Applejack asked.
"He's probably just jealous of Owlowiscious." Rainbow Dash pointed out.
"We could tell." Mario added when the 5 foals nodded with an agreement.
"Green is not his color." Comet adds which it got Mario and Storm Hawk snickered.
"Maybe Spike feels threatened or worried that Owlowiscious will replace him?" Fluttershy added with concern.
"Both of those would make sense." Storm Hawk said in agreement.
"Replace him? Ha! That's crazy!" Twilight said with a laugh. "Spike knows he can't be replaced."
Comet rolled his eyes in annoyance while Owlowiscious just sat quietly with its new bowties sparkling in the sunshine. Mario looked at her skeptically before he shook his head.
"What?" Twilight asked with a glare.
"I'm just gonna be upright and honest this time." Mario said. "Twilight Sparkle, you are so clueless sometimes."
"Hey!"
"I know jealousy when I see it." Mario said. "Rainbow and Fluttershy are probably right about Spike. Why else would he look so steamed?"
"Well, I think he's just cranky over lack of sleep." Twilight said. "Just you wait and see."
"Mom, it's not a lack of sleep. Spike overworked himself to the point that he needs to rest. I know that look on his face when he first look at Owlowiscious." Comet said seriously. "He's jealous, and he'll be planning that'll get him into a lot of trouble."
"He's right, your son is getting the right ideas." Mario added.
"Well, I'm gonna state my answer." Twilight told them. "Just you wait."
"And if we're right?" Mario asked with a raised eyebrow, but only got a silence from the Mane 6.
"Ya know by now we're not gonna admit you're right, don't ya?" Applejack asked plainly.
"Ma, there are times when ya have to admit yer wrong 'bout some things." Apple Shine told her mother, walking to her uncle. "Which is why Ah'm agreein' on Uncle Mario."
Then, the 4 foals walked next to Mario, defending him which it got the Mane 6 surprised that they're taking on his side.
"And maybe, just maybe, we all should listen to him more often so he won't lecture us." Rose Lotus adds.
Back inside of the Golden Oak Libary, Spike was stomping around.
"They're trying to replace me!" Spike said. "I better step it up and make sure that Twilight and Owlowiscious both know whose still number one!"
Spike didn't realize until after he had been talking to himself that he had been heading downstairs and saw Twilight with Comet and Owlowiscious at the bottom of the stairwell.
"Hey, Spike!" Twilight said. "Can you fetch that book called: 'Two-Headed Myth-'"
"...Mythological Mysteries!'" Spike finished her sentence. "I know where it is."
In his efforts to be useful, Spike had done his very best to memorize the locations of most of the books on the library shelves. Using a ladder and a small stack of books, Spike reached the location where the book was...only to find it empty.
"Thanks, Owlowiscious." Twilight said. "Hey, Spike, no worries, Owlowiscious flew up and got the book for me. Oh and gee! I guess I need 'Ferrets if Fairyland' too."
Spike felt rather annoyed until Owlowiscious flew up and grabbed the said book that's under the stack he was standing on.
"Hey! Whoa! Whoa!" Spike retorted as he wobbled to try and regain his balance.
"Come down from there before you fall." Twilight said, not even bothering to look at him.
Luckily, Comet used his magic to stop Spike and the stack of books from falling as he placed the baby dragon on the floor while placing the books back on the shelves. While Spike was thankful for Comet, he's still angry.
"Grrr!" Spike growled, steam spewed from his ears.
Later on that day, Twilight was busy writing some notes when her quill snapped and broke.
"Shoot!" Twilight remarked.
"Yes sir!" Spike said as he appeared beside her.
"My last writing quill." Twilight said. "It's broken."
"Never fear! Spike, your number one assistant is here!" Spike said confidently as he immediately begins to search for something that would make a good writing quill.
"Quill...quill... where is it?"
Spike began searching through the basket, the kitchen, under the bed.
"Not here...quill...quill...where is it?"
He then searched the bathroom and opens a curtain.
"Hoo!" Owlowiscious said, wearing a shower cap on his head and in the bathtub.
Spike just shut the curtain, pretending he saw nothing, and move on.
"Where am I gonna get a quill?" Spike asked as he even searched inside of a sandwich and then made a fast exit from the Golden Oak Library and ran into town.
"Spike! Wait! Wait!" Twilight called out from the balcony, but Spike was already out of hearing range.
It wasn't long before Spike reached a store that was known for selling only two things, quills and sofas. Yet today had to be the day they were out of one thing Spike needed the most.
"But the store is called 'Quills and Sofas'." Spike protested to the owner named Davenport. "You only sell two things!"
"Sorry, junior, all outta quills until Monday." Davenport told him. "Need a sofa?"
Spike just groaned loudly and stomped away to look elsewhere.
It wasn't long before he found himself just outside the Sugarcube Corner talking to Rose Lotus instead of Pinkie Pie.
"I'm sorry Spike, we don't have any quills around here. This is where we sell sweets, not quills." Rose Lotus told him.
"I know that, but there's gotta be a quill somewhere." Spike protested.
"Sorry, Spike, we don't have quills." Rose Lotus said. "You'll just have to find a quill elsewhere."
"Ah, shoot!" Spike muttered before he walked away.
Spike is now at Sweet Apple Acres, chasing a chicken.
"Come on, chicken!" Spike called out. "Here, chicky-chicky-chicky! Here, chick-chick-chick-chicky! Come here! Ugh! Come here!"
The chicken then ducked into the coop as Spike continued to pursue it until the chicken went through its door and Spike crashed into the wall. The entire wall came crashing down with Spike on top. Spike grunted angrily before continuing the chase with the chicken. The chicken came to a stop and Spike attacked the chicken.
"Ugh! Gah! Oof! Not the face!" Spike shouted as the struggle continued. "No! Hey! Stop! Quit it!"
Soon the chicken left the dust cloud, unharmed as Spike look rather beat up. As he lay there, a single chicken feather floated towards him.
His mission was complete. The was already setting when Spike finally arrived back at the tree house with the chicken feather in his hand.
"Spike...to the rescue." Spike panted before Twilight as he plops the floor on his stomach in exhaustion.
"Oh, Spike, I was calling out for you when you were turning this place upside down." Twilight said. "Owlowiscious gave me one of his feathers to use as a quill."
Twilight showed Spike the owl feather. Spike rose to his feet as his fists balled, burns the feather with the anger swelling inside of him.
"That's just great." Spike snapped. "Perfect! Sweet! I think I'll just, uh...finish up the rest of my chores! Or did Owlowiscious already do them?"
"Actually, Comet did it for you." Twilight told him.
"Well, that's fine!" Spike snapped as he sat on one of the step leading upstairs. "Because I can up all night and finish..."
Spike said no more, he had fallen asleep on the steps as Twilight just smiled.
"Poor Spike." Twilight said. "He'll come around. He's genuinely a good little guy."
Owlowiscious said nothing.
Unknown to them, Lord Garmadon was watching everything from his flames with a sinister smirk.
"Excellent. When Spike left, he will lead my minion to the cave and the fang will be mine for the taking." Lord Garmadon said, watches Spike sleeping. "Once Mario and Twilight rescue Spike, my minions will be ready."
By morning, Comet was about to get ready for martial arts training when Owlowiscious called him.
"What is it?" Comet asked as Owlowiscious showed the book to him, the same book that Spike accidentally burned. "This is the book mom asked."
Twilight got up and noticed her son is carrying the book, approaches him.
"What book have you got there, Comet?" Twilight asked, but noticed that it's the book called 'Astronomical Astronomer's Alamac to All Things Astronomy'. "Spike said the book was missing. Where did you find it?"
"I didn't, Owlowiscious found it where it belongs." Comet answered. "I think it's one of my visions, Spike burned it by accident when the book is covered in dust and he didn't tell you."
Twilight was starting to get angry that not only Spike didn't tell her, but lying to her.
"Thank you for telling me, Comet." Twilight said. "You go on ahead, I'll deal with Spike once he wakes up."
Comet then left the Golden Oak Library. Spike was still fast asleep before the sound of a loud book plopped next to him.
"Spike, what is this?" Twilight asked sternly. "You said this book was missing. Well, Owlowiscious found it right where it belongs, but like this. And Comet told me you burned it by accident. I want you to tell me the truth and tell me how did it get this way?"
Spike looked rather uneasy.
"Um...Well, um...You see." Spike stuttered. "I...I just wanna disappoint you and uh,...have you ever seen a dragon sneeze?"
The last part was actually Spike telling the truth, but because he made a rhetorical question out of it as he hugged his tail. Twilight took his answer as an excuse.
"I've seen a dragon lie!" Twilight retorted. "I'm very disappointed in you, Spike."
Twilight then excused himself from the room as Spike felt ashamed. Until, he saw Owlowiscious standing nearby and his shame turned into anger when he remembered it wsa him showed Comet and Twilight the destroyed book in the first place.
"You set me up!" Spike said angrily, pointing a finger at the owl. "Well, two can play it that game!"
"Hoo!" Owlowiscious said.
"Now 'who'! Two! Urgh!" Spike bellowed in frustration as he stomped his way out of the library, steaming in fury while storming around the town. "Owlowiscious is out to take my place! I just know it! I've gotta stop him, but how?"
It was just then, Spike saw a white mouse run by. He then got a devious smile on his face.
"Ah!" Spike exclaimed as he zipped away and returned with a black top hat, a matching cape, and a villainous mustache, which he twisted one side with his hand and laughed. "Muahahahahaha!"
Spike had officially gone to the dark side.
In order for his dastardly plan to work, he first headed to the outside of the Carousel Boutique. His timing couldn't have been more perfect as Rarity and Opal both stepped outside.
"Come along, Opal." Rarity said. "Let's hurry up and get to Fluttershy's tea party."
Opal just walked with Rarity in a snooty manner as they passed a particular bush. Once they're far enough away, Spike popped out of the bush and made his way inside through the bottom half of the front door. As he tip-toed around the shop, he looked around to see a ball of yarn, some rolled-up fabric, and then a toy mouse.
"So lifelike." Spike said as he picked it up and examined it. "And when Twilight discovers it shredded up on the floor, she'll think mouse eating Owlowiscious is too blame. And I'll be number one...again! Muahahahahaha!"
Spike then opened the door, made a rather dastardly pose, before making his escape.
Once back at the Golden Oak Library, Spike put his dastardly plan into action. With the toy mouse in his hand, he tore off a patch Rarity had sewed on it and shook it a bit to make some stuffing come out. Next, he roughed up the whiskers a bit as well as the face, causing one of the button eyes to dangle by the thread. He then tossed some of the stuffing into the floor. Then, Spike rushed into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of ketchup and poured a large glob of it around the mouse to add a gruesome factor to the destroyed toy mouse. Then, he grabbed Twilight's pillow and began to toss the feathers around to leave a trail. Walking backwards, Spike laughed evilly as he continued to make a mess and became unaware of two things: 1) He had stepped into the ketchup and was leaving footprints on the floor and stairs. 2) He's so in the moment of his little scheme that he didn't notice Twilight, Comet, and Owlowiscious were right behind him...until he bumped into somepony.
BUSTED!
Twilight and Comet just gave him a stern glare as Spike just shifted his eyes from the two ponies to the mess and back again. He then zipped away to remove his costume and then came back in just a few seconds flat.
"That poor little field mouse! Torn to pieces!" Spike said melodramatically. "It must've been Owlowiscious! You know, since owls eat, you know, mice. What a terrible, terrible bird! He must be punished! Right?"
Twilight was now at her wits end.
"Spike! I don't know what upsets me more!" Twilight scolded angrily. "That you deliberately tried to set up Owlowiscious or that you actually thought this pathetic attempt would work! You've let your jealousy get the best of you, Spike! I am truly disappointed! This is not the Spike I know and love!"
If the fact Twilight was disappointed in him didn't hurt enough, hearing the last statement really broke his heart. Twilight and Comet just left the room without another word as Owlowiscious just did a 180 with his head to look at Spike as they left with a hard slam of the front door.
"She...She doesn't love me anymore." Spike said, feeling like he's going to cry.
Lord Garmadon watched everything from the flames as he sees Spike packing his things and left the Golden oak Library.
"Pitiful, that pony doesn't even know how to be sensitive." Lord Garmadon scoffed. "No matter, I must make preparations for the trap and getting the third fang of the Great Devourer."
He turns around and given the skeletons and a wraith an order.
Spike is gonna be in more trouble than ever now.
It was later that evening when Twilight and Comet finally returned just outside of the library. After what had happened, she needed some time to cool down and recollect her thoughts. As wrong as Spike was, she felt rather guilty herself.
"Maybe I was a little hard for Spike." Twilight said.
"Hoo." Owlowiscious replied.
Twilight was about to say something when Comet grunted as the owl spirit revealed itself while his eyes turned white again. Comet is starting to see a vision of Spike walking towards the cave, where he get an unfriendly welcome of another dragon, and saw a pair of skeletons ready for a fight against Mario and Twilight. As he finished seeing visions, Comet lands on the floor, panted heavily.
"Comet, are you okay?" Twilight asks with worry. "Are you starting to see visions again?"
Comet stood up with a groan as he confirms with a nod.
"Okay, what do you see?" Twilight asks.
"I'm seeing Spike...entering in a cave at the Everfree Forest, where the dragon is in there." Comet explains, recollecting. "And then, there are skeletons...ready for a fight..."
"'Skeletons'? Wait, those are Lord Garmadons army!" Twilight exclaims shockingly. "Who are they fighting?"
"You...and Mario..." Comet answered, but starting to have visions again.
Comet then saw the vision from the past, seeing Spike packed his things and left the Golden Oak Library. Comet then finished the retrocognition as he was about to land on the floor when Twilight was able to grab hold of her son.
"Beginning to see visions again?" Twilight asks.
"Yeah, but it's the past..." Comet groaned.
"What do you see?" Twilight asks again.
"I'm seeing Spike...he packed his things and then...he left..." Comet answered which it got Twilight shocked. "Spike left because he felt like you didn't love him anymore..."
"Oh no...what have I done..." Twilight said sadly. "Spike...he must have gone to the Everfree Forest..."
Twilight and Owlowiscious then ran towards Sweet Apple Acres and banged on the door frantically.
"Mario! Mario! Mario!" Twilight shouted as Mario used his nature element to snare her with vines.
"What's with all the banging?!" Mario asked as he lets Twilight go. "You nearly woke them up!"
"He left!" Twilight said which it didn't take long for Mario figure it out.
"Spike?" Mario asked with confirmation.
"Yes, he ran away!" Twilight replied and began to talk rather fast. "You were right, Mario! He's jealous and what did I do?! I scolded him! Now he's gone! And if anything happens to him I'll never..."
Twilight didn't get to finish as Mario wrapped his fore-hooves around her in a hug. While Twilight was still worried, his hug did at least settle down what was clearly becoming a panic attack. Mario held her for a few seconds until he could tell Twilight's breathing was close to normal again.
"Then lets go find him." Mario said as he stomped his hoof, bringing out the hammer. "Should we get the others?"
"No need." Twilight said as Owlowiscious was hovering nearby. "Comet has unlocked his new power and his new animal spirit while Owlowiscious found some footprints leading towards the Everfree Forest. If we hurry, we can find him before the trail disappears."
Mario nodded as the three soon headed towards the Everfree Forest while Twilight began explaining.
Meanwhile, Spike had aimlessly headed into the Everfree Forest, carrying just a simple sack on a stick as he continued to walk through the dark forest with his head low.
"Twilight and Comet hates me." Spike said to himself. "I'm cold, hungry, tired, and lonely. Could it get any worse?"
KA-BOOM!
It's just then, a small thunderstorm hit the forest and rain began to pour down on the small dragon. Spike was startled for a moment.
"I guess that's a yes." Spike remarked.
Spike hadn't walked that much farther before he found a cave.
"Hello? Hello?" Spike called out from the outside edge before deciding to make his way inside to get out of the rain as the lightning outside struck a few times behind him.
As Spike walks further inside, his eyes caught a glimpse of something sparkling in the distance.
"What is that?" Spike wondered as he made his way close to it.
There before him was a large mountain of gems which it got his eyes widened excitedly.
"If this is what running away is all about, I never wanna go home!" Spike said, then dived into the gems. "Gems! Mmm...woohoo!"
Spike surfaced, dived back down into the pile, and then surfaced again as he gobbled up a few gems happily.
A few minutes later, Spike was now reclining against the mountain of gems with a nicely sized potbelly to show that he had eaten his share and gave a satisfied hiccup.
"Even if my tummy's full, the rest of me is still empty." Spike said as he patted his stomach. "I miss Twilight and the pony gang, but she doesn't love me anymore. So, I'm better off here, all by myself."
Spike then held a half-eaten yellow gem and began to suck on it when some mysterious steam begins to float near him.
"Wow, seems to be getting warmer." Spike said aloud as he tried to fan himself a bit. "The steam is great for my complexion, but it's sure getting hot in here."
Spike looked around for the source and then gasped silently as he saw another dragon. A large, fully grown green dragon, snorting and glaring at him.
"What are you doing in my cave? And why are you eating my gems?" The dragon demanded angrily.
"Heyah bro!" Spike said, trying to play it cool. "I didn't know this was your cave. And I didn't know these were your gems, but...we're cool right?"
Spike's question was soon met with a threatening growl from the green dragon.
"Whoa, whoa! Hey...we're like brothers, you know." Spike said, trying to reason with him. "I mean, you're a dragon, I'm a dragon...it's us against the world, right?"
The green dragon just roared, making it clear that he's not willing to relate or make friends with him. Spike was startled a bit before trying to rustle up some courage.
"You don't scare me!" Spike said bravely. "So, you're big!"
The green dragon growled at him again, making Spike cower a bit.
"Really big..." Spike continued, feeling more nervous by the second. "And you're claws are super sharp. Tail...extra spikey..."
Spike got a good look at the claws and tail, felt his courage began to fade, but then tried again to stand strong.
"But, uh...You don't scare me!" Spike said, tried to act tough and blew a rather feeble green flame from his mouth. "Ha! How'd you like that?"
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRP!
The green dragon released a huge flame towards Spike. He just ducked in time to avoid being barbequed, though the top of his head was slightly singed.
"Uh...I'd love to stay, but gotta go!" Spike said. "See ya! Wouldn't want to be ya! Aah!"
Spike then ran underneath the green dragon's legs as it tried to roast him again. Spike ran for dear life and ducked behind the rock, but the green dragon easily smashed the rock with his tail. Spike then continued to run away as the green dragon tried to grab Spike with his jaw, but just barely missed. Soon, Spike was pinned against the wall with nowhere to run, the green dragon got ready to deal with Spike when...
"Hoo-hoo!"
Help had arrived in the form of Owlowiscious as he began to fly around the dragon's head to distract it. The green dragon roared and tried to attack the owl first, but Owlowiscious was too quick and was able to avoid the spiked tail. He was even able to trick the green dragon into slamming his tail on his own head, causing the dragon wailed as it painfully removed his spikey tail from the top of his head. Spike just watched in awe.
"Spike! Over here!" The voice of Twilight shouted.
"Hurry while scaley is distracted!" The voice of Mario added.
Spike looked toward the cave exit to Twilight and Mario standing outside.
"Am I glad to see you!" Spike said as he ran as fast as he could towards the two ponies.
"Hurry! Hop on!" Twilight said as Spike climbed into her back and they ran away from the cave with Owlowiscious behind them.
But the five army of skeletons were struggling to get out of the tree roots, which Mario was able to capture them earlier as they ran past them. The green dragon rose up from the cave and chased after them while destroyed the skeletons. The wraith then sieze the opportunity as it grabs hold of the third fang of the Great Devourer, then vanished.
Back at the Everfree Forest, Twilight, Mario, Spike, and Owlowiscious still ran as fast as they could from the dragon as it was gaining on them.
"It's too dark!" Twilight said. "I can't see!"
"Hoo! Hoo-hoo!" Owlowiscious called out.
Both ponies smiled as they remembered that owls had a natural ability to see in the dark. They allowed the owl to guide them through the dark forest, which also allowed them to keep up their pace from the approaching green dragon. Soon, the green dragon got stuck behind some fallen trees. Fortunately, this dragon couldn't fly, so he roared out a large blast of fire from above the trees in frustration as Spike gave a sigh of relief. Eventually, they finally made their way out of the Everfree Forest. Twilight and Mario slowed down near a lone tree on the outskirts and set Spike down.
"Spike, we were so worried about you." Twilight panted. "I was so worried about you. Why did you ran away?"
"I thought you didn't need me anymore." Spike said sadly. "And that you didn't love me anymore."
Twilight just looked at Mario sadly, but he just rested a hoof on her back, urging her to say something.
"Spike, sure, I was disappointed, but you are my number one assistant! And friend. And you always will be." Twilight said. "It's just sometimes I need some help at night. I can't ask you to stay up late...I don't feel comfortable always asking Mario pulling off all-nighters to help me. He has things to do as well. I don't feel comfortable asking Comet either, because he's my son and he needs some sleep at night so he can practice martial arts and magic, and so he can go to school. Besides, you're a baby dragon and you need your rest. Owls are nocturnal, so I asked Owlowiscious to help, but not to take your place. No one could ever replace you, Spike. Not even when you are being a jealous numbskull."
Twilight noogied his head, making him smile before they exchanged a hug with each other.
"I'm sorry, Twilight. I never should've been so jealous." Spike said.
"And I'm sorry too, Spike. I should've been more sensitive." Twilight said.
"And Owlowiscious...I know now that you weren't out to take my job." Spike told the owl. "Forgive me?"
"Hoo?" Owlowiscious said.
"Me, forgive me, Spike." Spike repeated.
"Hoo!" Owlowiscious repeated which it got Twilight and Mario chuckled.
"He forgives you, Spike." Twilight said.
"And you need to read an owl translator, bud." Mario suggested. "It'll help you understand him a little better since all 'hoos' aren't the same."
"Quite true." Twilight agrees. "And thank you for helping me find Spike."
Twilight then kissed his cheek. While Mario had received a handful of cheek kisses from Twilight in recent times, he still blushed when receiving this one.
"Hey!" Spike said in realization. "How did you guys know where I was?"
"It was Comet's new magic and animal spirit." Mario explains. "Twilight explains that Comet has unlocked a new animal spirit that allows him to see visions in between the past and the future. His new animal spirit is an owl."
"And it's your ketchup covered feet." Twilight adds. "Owlowiscious discovered your footprints and we followed them all the way to the cave."
Spike lifted his foot and saw that his feet still had some of the ketchup coated on them.
"Oh yeah, the ketchup. It looked pretty real though, didn't it?" Spike said with a question.
Though, it got both Twilight and Mario gave him a skeptical looks on their faces. Spike can only chuckled sheepishly to himself, regretting that comment had came out of his mouth.
Once they'd returned to the Golden Oak Library after Comet cleaned up the mess Spike made and repaired Twilight's pillow, Spike had collected a scroll and a quill for Twilight to begin reciting the letter. Mario just stood next to Twilight and Owlowiscious was perched nearby. Comet was in his room, sleeping.
"I know Princess Celestia will wanna read about what happened today." Twilight told him.
"I'm ready when you are." Spike said with a quill at hand.
Then, Twilight had an idea.
"Hey, Spike, why don't you write to Princess Celestia?" Twilight suggested. "And tell her what you've learned?"
"Really?" Spike said surprisingly. "Why, that's a big responsibility."
"I know." Twilight replied. "But nothing my number one assistant can't handle."
Spike smiled and began to write.
'Dear Princess Celestia,
This is Spike, writing to you about my adventures. This week, I've learned that being jealous and telling lies gets you nowhere in friendship. I also learned that there's plenty of love for everyone to share. So from here on out, I promise that I, Spike, will...'
As Spike recited his letter, Mario and Twilight listened with smiles on their faces, but were then stunned when Spike stopped. They then noticed that Spike had dropped asleep on the desk.
"Oh, Spike." Twilight said, shaking her head when Mario gave a smirk.
"Hoo?" Mario asked teasingly which it caught Twilight surprisingly before she turned to him.
"Who?" Twilight asked. "Spike! You kno...Ohhhh...Mario!"
Twilight smirked at Mario, who smiled innocently.
"What?" Mario asked innocently before turning to Owlowiscious. "I think he's starting to rub off on me now."
Twilight then giggled to herself, realizing she had fallen into the same trick when Spike misunderstood and Mario did the same trick on her. Owlowiscious just turned his head 180 degrees and gave a wink.
That's it for the 36th chapter.
