Chapter 8: Ritchie vs Brock
Our story picks up in Pewter City and it is the next morning as Ritchie gets up and is ready to earn his first gym badge. After everyone gets ready they all head to the gym once there Brock greets them and tells Ritchie to follow him as the others head to the stands. Once seated and Brock and Ritchie were ready Brock asks Ritchie if he remembers the rules Ritchie nods as Brock sends out Geodude, Ritchie then sends out Pidgeotto? This gets them confused as why would he send out a flying type maybe he taught his Pidgeotto a move like Steel Wing. So Brock gets on with the battle as he says Ritchie can have the first move. He nods and orders a Gust? which does not even scratch it Brock orders a Rollout which hits Pidgeotto hard as Brock asks if he even taught his Pokemon anything and when he doesn't answer that is all the answer that is all the confirmation they needed. Ash scowls saying that Ritchie is pathetic for not even teaching his Pokemon any moves or even finding a Pokemon that has the type advantage. He says that Pidgeotto is going to lose but Misty says to watch and maybe he will win but Ash was correct as Pidgeotto did fall leaving Ritchie with one Pokemon left. He thinks and sends out Pikachu as Pikachu is actually able to take out Geodude. Ash is not impressed and as Brock sends out Onix he gets up to leave as Misty asks where he is going and he explains that this battle is pathetic and that Ritchie already lost. After he leaves it turns out he was correct and Ritchie ended up forfeiting because Pikachu was nearly crushed by Onix's Wrap after that they left the gym feeling somber.
After getting to the Pokemon Center and getting healed Misty asks Ritchie if he would like to be lent one of her Pokemon as they are water types and they should give him the win. But Ritchie politely declines saying that he will win with his own Pokemon but the question is how? But then Flint walks up and says he can help by Super Charging his Pikachu. They asks how? and he tells them to follow him as he takes them to an old water mill. When they reach they begin by pumping electricity through Pikachu eventually putting some much that the mill exploded but Pikachu got much stronger and learned a new move Thunderbolt.
After that Ritchie goes to challenge Brock again the next morning and this time he was ready. His first Pokemon this time was Butterfree who manages to take out Geodude with a few Tackles and Poison Powers. But eventually Onix comes out and takes out Butterfree with Slam. But then Ritchie uses Pikachu and his new move Thunderbolt which doesn't do much but when he makes the sprinkler system go off while in cased in Wrap he unleashes a thunderbolt on a wet Onix which knocks it out and wins Ritchie the match but he declines the badge as he only won with sprinklers. As he and Misty look to leave Brock meets up with them and hands Ritchie the boulder badge since he did beat him in the battle as well as caring for his Pokemon. Ritchie accepts and pins the badge to his jacket. Then Brock says he would like to come with them but he need to look after the gym and his siblings but then Flint appears and says he can go as he takes of his hat and fake beard revealing an older version of Brock as he turn out to be his father he explains that he ran away to get away from the kids and gym but he apologizes and says that he has come to make things right as he tells Brock he can go with Ritchie and Misty and says its time for him to be a gym leader and Father again. As he leaves and Ritchie and Misty welcome Brock to the group now together the three friends hed of to a new Adventures.
