"Jimmy" Potter was nervous. It was his first Formula One race in front of his home crowd and he had a lot to live up to.

It wasn't just the fact that his parents and grandparents were watching him, standing at the side of the grid.

And it wasn't just the fact that he was the son and grandson of two previous Formula One drivers either.

But it was also the fact that she was there, watching him.

"And on this sunny summer Silverstone Sunday, welcome to our home. Not just Athena and my home, but the home of the Formula One World Championship. The place where it all began."

As the crowd at the Grim Star pub in Brackley, Northamptonshire, started watching the coverage on the television, the landlord, Sirius Black, was looking at the photographs around the bar.

Photographs of his schoolmate, James Potter, in the racing colours of the Scuderia Ferrari, the colours of Tyrrell and even the colours of the French Ligier team.

There were photos of his godson, Harry Potter, the cover of a magazine which showed his godson with the woman who would soon become his wife on his first race at Silverstone, and photos of Harry's sister, Athena.

And the newest ones on the wall. Photos of James "Jimmy" Potter. The third generation of Potters in Formula One.

"Its Silverstone, its British Grand Prix Sunday, and here's the circuit. 52 laps around this 3.66-mile track. 18 corners, 8 to the left, 10 to the right, 2 DRS zones along the Hanger Straight and the Wellington Straight. It features some of the greatest corners in the world. And in the Vale Chicane, this year has already proven interesting with the battle between Aston Martin's Scorpius Malfoy and Alfa Romeo's Jimmy Potter during qualifying, with Malfoy getting a five-place grid penalty.

"The two have had a couple of comings together this season, with Monaco being a major point of contention for the two, Malfoy getting a penalty for that."

The few workers at the Good Faith Foundation were watching the coverage, some supporting the grandson of the Foundation's owner, some supporting others.

But none of them were supporting Jimmy Potter.

"Here's the starting grid then for the 73rd World Championship British Grand Prix. Scorpius Malfoy starts at the back of the grid alongside Mick Schumacher, Malfoy having had a 5-place grid penalty for his actions in qualifying."

The workers at the Good Faith Foundation were booing at the announcement that there was a penalty for the Aston Martin driver.

"Bottas with his worst start here since 2014. Into the top 10, Nicholas Latifi was 10th for the second time ever, with Jimmy Potter, and his best ever start in P9."

The crowd at the Grim Star pub cheered when they saw that Jimmy Potter had managed to get into the top ten on his Silverstone debut in Formula One.

"You couldn't write that script, Athena Potter, and I don't know what the scriptwriters have in store for us this afternoon, but the rivalry between Scorpius Malfoy and Jimmy Potter has caused some interesting times."

"Absolutely. Normally the topic of conversation would be about Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz being on the front row, but this rivalry seems to have come to what feels like a head in Monaco."

Dan Granger was sitting in the stands near to Abbey corner, watching the formation lap, seeing his grandson have a good start off the grid.

"As they leave the grid, you see people standing at the side of the grid. Some of them are members of the teams, some family of the drivers, but the drivers are obliged to stay on the pit lane speed limiter until they pass pole position, 50 miles an hour is all they can do until they are past it." Athena said on the television as the cars left the grid for the formation lap.

The television cameras showed former 3-time World Champion, Harry Potter, with his family, standing on the side of the grid, standing with the Alfa Romeo team as the cars went through for the formation lap.

"All the drivers are looking to score points, score places which pay the points, and the rivalry between Jimmy Potter and Scorpius Malfoy have the points swinging so far in favour of the Alfa Romeo driver." Croft said, as the cars snaked their way around the Vale chicane.

The crowd at the Grim Star pub were on the edge of their seats as the start lights lit up.

"Here we go then. This is what we've all come to Silverstone for. The British Grand Prix, and its lights out, and away we go."

The workers at the Good Faith Foundation and the drinkers at the Grim Star pub were all watching the start of the race in anticipation as the cars left the grid.

"Max Verstappen already into Abbey, takes the lead. And Carlos Sainz… and at the back… that's George Russell out of this race!" David Croft announced to the TV audience. "Its not just George Russell, as we've got a red flag which is going to make racing redundant. It looks like the car that went upside down through the gravel is…

"I think it was Jimmy Potter who was also involved with this."

Dan Granger, along with the rest of the crowd in the stand stood up as the Alfa Romeo of Jimmy Potter found itself stuck in between two fences.

"We saw George Russell going across the gravel. Jimmy Potter involved, and also down there, Alex Albon in the Williams"

The cameras showed inside the Alfa Romeo garage, where Harry Potter was holding his wife's hand, and Al Potter was talking on the radio

"Is Jimmy alright?" Al's voice came over the Alfa Romeo team radio on the television.

"I'm not sure." The response from Valtteri Bottas came. "He went in between the fences."

"****" the response on the television feed came, but the meaning was implied.

"Athena has had to leave due to the circumstances surrounding the incident on the opening lap, here at Silverstone, so I'm now joined in the commentary box by Karun Chandhok. Karun, thank you for coming."

"Thanks Crofty."

"Karun, we've seen the incident on Abbey, George Russell getting out of his car to check on Jimmy Potter, who's car has flipped over, and now finds itself between the fences. My question is, what will be going through the minds of both drivers?"

The cars pulled into the pit lane, just as a protestor decided to start jumping the fences on the track, but for George Russell, who was in the medical car, sitting next to Alex Albon, there was worry.

He had caused a crash on the opening lap of the British Grand Prix.

He had made contact with the Alfa Romeo of Jimmy Potter, causing the youngest driver on the grid to flip, not just once, but multiple times, with the car getting stuck in the fences.

When he had come to a stop in the gravel, he knew he had to check on the driver of the red and white car. Leaping out, he didn't care that the race was under yellow flags, he just had to check, to make sure, to hope.

Seeing the marshals were already there to provide assistance, George had been slightly reassured, but he still needed to check.

"Jimmy!" he shouted, hoping the young Northants born driver would be able to respond.

There was no response.

George could see a distraught man in the stands trying to get close to the fence, the stewards pulling him away, the man protesting.

He could hear the medical car approaching. The assistance for the young Potter coming along the gravel.

He also knew he needed to contact his pit wall, at least to get his team to pass on a message to the young race engineer at Alfa Romeo that would be worried about his brother.

Daniel Granger was distraught.

His grandson had been involved in a crash at Silverstone, and he was powerless to do anything.

Daniel, or Dan as he preferred to be called, had seen many accidents at Silverstone. He had seen the previous days accident between Dennis Hauger and Roy Nissany on television, he had seen the accident involving Max Verstappen on Copse corner in 2021. He had even been present when the German race driver, Micheal Schumacher, had crashed into Stowe in 1999.

But this crash was closer to home. He had been looking forward to Jimmy in his first race at Silverstone, and then this happened. His grandson had gone out in the first turn, contact between him and the Mercedes-Benz of George Russell.

The last time Dan had been this distraught was when his wife, Emma, had been in hospital, a crash which took her life and could have took the life of his grandson, Albus. Al had been lucky, his arm getting broken, but at the same time it had ended a promising karting career for the younger of the two Potter brothers, all because it had never healed properly.

Running down the steps in the stand, knowing that he would pay for it the next day with his arthritis, he knew he just had to get to his grandson, to hope that he was alright, to be able to be there for him.

He could feel the hands of the stewards, pulling him away from the fence.

He could remember protesting that he needed to be there, that he needed to see that his grandson was alive.

He could see the approaching of the extraction team, how they would have to get Jimmy out.

How he could do nothing in what would be his grandson's hour of need

He was powerless.
