"Mitsy, let's go out for a while." Jack suggested. Mitsy sighed and followed him. Slinky followed at a distance, partly to keep a watchful eye on them, also to give them some privacy yet be reminded of their presence. After slowly strolling along a bit, Jack stared at Mitsy. She was very quiet and kept sighing. Though she was with him and knew he'd keep her safe, she was obviously tense. She tried looking at the relaxing, overcast sky to think cheerfully, yet her eyes kept wondering around as if she expected something to come out and grab her. "Hey," Jack whispered, tilting his head. Mitsy sighed again and mounted his back. The slow swaying back and forth of his shoulders was very calming.
"Jack, what happened when Spike found out you were alive?" Mitsy asked out of the blue.
"Not much he could do." Jack smiled.
"I'm serious." Mitsy frowned. "What happened?"
"So am I." Jack insisted. "Really, he was too shocked to think straight. Besides, I started in on him...we started in on him before he realized what was happening! It's okay, honey. Believe me, he did not have the upper hand this time!" Mitsy's shoulders sagged in relief.
"Hey there, partner." Woody greeted Matthew.
"Hello, Sheriff." Matthew saluted. "I'm sorry to drop by unannounced, but I just wanted to check up on everyone."
"No, no. It's alright, soldier." Buzz smiled. "You're a welcome sight."
"So, how is everybody doing?" Matthew asked.
"We're...glad to be home." Woody said quietly.
"I see." Matthew nodded. "Well, I won't stay too long. Uhm...how, how is the princess?"
"Having a rough time." Buzz admitted.
"Sorry to hear that."
"Well, how are your friends settling in?" Buzz inquired.
"Mmm. I think Link and Fox are in a state of shock. But, a good shock!" Matthew answered. "Not even in Bobby's house twenty-four hours yet, and Iris is already flirting with Link. I'm beginning to think he actually wishes he was back in captivity!" He joked.
"Poor guy." Buzz chuckled.
"Katan begged to come with me, but I told him no as firmly as I could," Matthew explained. "I told him that you all needed lots of rest, something he's not capable of producing by any means. Besides, he's grounded for the day for following us without permission."
"Ouch." Buzz tsked sympathetically.
"Only for the day." Matthew grinned. "He was a very brave little cub. I'm not denying that. Well, I'd better get back. If you all need anything, just holler and we'll be over. Okay?"
"Roger that." Buzz agreed. "Same to you, soldier."
"Sure thing. Take it easy today, Sheriff. See ya." Matthew saluted Woody.
"Thanks, partner." Woody said.
"Jack? Can we go back inside now?" Mitsy asked.
"Sure, darling." Jack complied, changing direction to head back to the window. He was relieved that she'd stopped shaking. "Hey, isn't that-" Matthew appeared, riding on Alice's back.
"Hey!" Matthew waved to them, and Alice did with her trunk.
"Oh, hi." Mitsy slightly smiled when they were standing next to each other.
"Your Highness." Matthew nodded, with a fond smile. Mitsy briefly stared at him then glanced down at the ground.
"Jack, Mitsy, it's good to see you." Alice smiled widely. "Matt told us about how roughed up you all were. I hope you can settle down after all that mess."
"Thanks. We're working on it." Jack nodded. "Well, you have a larger household today, huh?"
"Yes." Alice beamed. "It's the most lively things have been since Bobby moved to this neighborhood. Well, we'd better get back, Matt. We'll talk soon."
"Right." Jack agreed.
"Take care of her." Matthew told Jack firmly.
"You don't have to tell me, boy." Jack retorted, bristling his shoulders. Mitsy blushed hard, keeping her eyes on her fidgeting hands. She shivered slightly, though she wasn't sure if it was still from fright, the outside breeze, or the soldier's presence.
"Sorry." Matthew cringed. "Of course I know you will."
"Your point?" Jack narrowed his large eyes.
"I guess I'm still frazzled from last night too. Uhh, we should go, Alice. Uhm, I hope you feel better, Your Highness." Matthew gulped.
"Mmm." Mitsy grunted solemnly. Jack abruptly trotted away, back to the door. Matthew smacked his own forehead in frustration. How could he have let himself speak so stupidly?
"Cheer up, dear." Alice grinned, patting Matthew's shoulder with her trunk. "It will all work out in the end."
"What will work?" Matthew feigned ignorance.
"Don't play dumb with me." Alice bucked her shoulders.
"I'm beginning to think that boy moving so near to Bonnie's was not such a good idea." Jack growled.
"He's not a boy. He's a soldier!" Mitsy declared defensively.
"Oh?" Jack cocked his head, frowning.
"He was brave to help you and Buzz and Jessie rescue us!" Mitsy exclaimed.
"You're becoming terribly stirred up over a mere good neighbor, Precious." Jack teased.
"Huh?" Mitsy gaped. Jack smirked. Mitsy's head swarmed. Did he know, or was he just trying to lighten things up? She was too worn out to figure it out. "I'm tired, Jack." She sighed.
"Well then, let's get you inside."
"Slinky. Are you okay?" Mitsy asked when she noticed him waiting for them.
"Sure! Just keepin' an eye on ya." Slinky said.
After a suggestion from Buzz, Woody called everyone together to watch a movie in the living room. Buzz knew that Woody and Mitsy needed to get their minds off their traumatic experience, and it wouldn't hurt the other toys to take a break either, so they chose a slap-happy comedy. Woody and Mitsy winced at times from the soreness of their beatings, but they did enjoy the laughter. The toys spent hours howling with laughter at the quirky, hilarious, and sometimes stupid occurrences in the plots on the TV screen. It was a relieving break for everyone to loosen up and relax.
Jessie and Jiminy read storybook after storybook to the aliens and peas, with Buttercup and Trixie acting out the stories, making the kids laugh. Jiminy turned out to be an avid narrator, so much so that Jessie let him take over. With the kids entertained, Potato Head spent the day relaxing.
