Pyra arrived just as another two transports were leaving. While Mor Ardain's titan had joined a landmass like the other continent titans, its structure still meant it was in increased danger of collapsing after its death. Knowing this, evacuation plans were still put into action to migrate the entirety of the nation onto the new mainland. A feat that would take years but was well under way.
The capitol was emptier than she remembered as a result though. The government was moving piece by piece starting with less important departments, but a decent amount of civilians had packed up by now as well. This left quite a few buildings of the formally bustling city completely vacant. It was almost eerie.
All the same, she made her way toward the palace to see if Mythra had come to see Morag or Brighid. She hoped she was just visiting a friend or something. She hoped beyond reason that was the case. Maybe she just did not want to leave the core crystal unguarded for so long. Pyra doubted her own reasoning, but she kept her hope alive.
She was able to get in with little issue. Most of the guards were familiar with her at this point, so they simply rung up Morag and let Pyra go on through. The palace seemed like one of the few areas that had not changed much. The emperor insisted that he would not leave until his people were taken care of, and his staff and guards stayed with him.
That, of course, included Morag usually, though she also had an office in the new capitol as she worked to maintain order in the fledgling city as well even if Brighid used it more than she did. Fortunately, she was in town today, so Pyra was able to get a meeting. Though, the inquisitor seemed especially confused to see her there.
"Can't say I was expecting to see you today. Mythra said that you had sent her in your place."
"Mythra was here?" Pyra leaned forward not even bothering to hide her interest in that fact.
"Yes, though, might I ask why you're here?"
"I…I came to track down Mythra."
"And you chose to chase her down all the way out here?" Morag rested her elbows on the desk as she linked her fingers.
"Well," Pyra shifted uncomfortably, "She took Malos' core crystal with her."
That certainly got Morag's attention, "You're certain?"
Pyra nodded, "There were no signs of a break in, and she was the only one there that knew the code. It had to be her."
"Why would she do that?"
"I don't know, but she had apparently been acting erratically. Best case scenario is she didn't want to leave it unguarded for a prolonged period of time, but…"
"We cannot afford to take chances," The special inquisitor sighed, "This is especially troubling given the intelligence I shared."
"What intelligence?" Pyra's eyes narrowed.
"I had sent for you after I received words that one of our exploratory ships came across a strange cave in the northern regions. Some swore that they saw something in the ice. I immediately ordered the ship to leave and swore them to secrecy. I was going to let you know that you might need to move Aion."
"They found it?" Pyra grimaced. She thought she had hidden it better. She had even encased it in ice and everything.
"So it would seem. I did not give Mythra the exact location, but she knows the general area now. Fortunately, she would likely stop off in Tantal, and they have been slow to open up trade. A transport should not leave for there until at least tomorrow."
"Good," Pyra nodded as she stood from her seat, "In the meantime I'll try to find her."
"I'll have the city guard on the lookout as well. I hope it's nothing, but I would rather be safer than sorry."
"Right."
Pyra walked through the streets of the capitol having no luck in finding her sister. She was starting to get anxious and was tempted to try tapping into some of that light energy for a speed boost, but before she made up her mind, she caught sight of blonde locks flowing around a corner.
Knowing she had her, Pyra gave chase. Pyra finally caught up to her in the clearing where they had fought Lila over a year prior. Though, it was significantly emptier than before.
"Mythra!"
"Pyra?" The elder Aegis stopped in her tracks, "What…are you doing here?"
"I came to find you."
"Please, Pyra, I'm not a child. I think I can take a trip to town."
"People back home said you had been acting strangely."
"So is that reason enough to invade my privacy?"
"You also took Malos' core crystal." This made Mythra stop in her tracks, "Why'd you take it?"
"I-I don't know. I just did, okay?" Mythra backed away defensively, "What do you care? Go back to your perfect little life."
"Mythra?" Pyra approached slowly, "What are you talking about? I care about you."
"I don't need your pity," Mythra spat as her personality shifted even further and she drew her weapon on her sister, "Just leave me alone!"
Before Pyra could respond further, a group of Ardainian soldiers found them, "Stop right there!"
"Wait!" Pyra called as they tried to surround her, "Stay back!" The soldiers did not listen though, and one made the fatal mistake of lifting his weapon. In a flash, Mythra's sword was pointed at him, and he fell back with a gaping hole in his chest from the beam of energy.
"Mythra!" Pyra called as she did not need to check on him to know he was gone.
"I-I," Mythra's eyes dilated as she looked at the fresh corpse she had made before frantically turning her weapon back toward Pyra barely catching her outstretched hand leaving a moderate cut, "Leave me alone!"
Without another word, Mythra vaulted over the nearby gate and made for the bridge. Not wanting to let her get away, Pyra jumped after her and gave chase, but Mythra was faster than her if she did not tap into more power.
With that in mind, she held her sword out in front of her and began to spin it with her power. The darker parts of her outfit shifted to a dark green as she channeled some wind to mix with her fire. The tornado of flame raced forward and forced Mythra to dodge to the left. Pyra aimed it to intercept her, but Mythra vaulted over it and looked out to the water. With a massive burst of speed, Mythra flung herself from the bridge and into the ocean.
Pyra followed to the edge of the bridge. She could make the jump if she tried, but she would rather not risk breaking her legs on entry. She was still a lot more vulnerable than Mythra in her current state. Plus, she would rather Rex not suddenly have his legs snap like twigs as he went about his day.
Grimacing, Pyra went to coordinate with Morag on where Mythra would likely go next. And…to apologize for the loss.
