Sorry for not updating sooner but I wasn't quite happy with the ideas I had for this chapter. So it took me a while to find the perfect idea and rewrite the chapter. I did it more than once. And it still feels not right – but nevertheless it is time to post chapter 2.

Chapter 2

Kim and Antonio looked at each other wordlessly for a moment. Oh, what was that all about? What had just happened? They kissed. One moment. For that they found no words. And for a moment it seemed as if Antonio wanted to say something to Kim, wanted to do something.

Kim saw him clench his hands into fists.

" `Go. Come on, get out of here,'" he hissed, struggling to keep his composure.

Kim couldn't guess at that moment that he was struggling to keep his composure. That he was fighting with himself not to give in to the urge to kiss Kim. He knew that if she didn't leave now, he would kiss her again. Over and over again.

He wasn't sure if he would regret it. Whether he would regret kissing Kim again. Antonio closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Trying to push any thoughts out of his mind. No longer thinking about the feeling of her lips on his.

And then he heard footsteps moving away. When Antonio opened his eyes again, he was alone in the alley. Thank goodness.

Kim had gone back into the bar without turning around again. She had literally fled from Antonio and her own thoughts. From this moment of weakness. And now Kim just wanted to go home. She wanted to get away, from Antonio and the temptation he offered.

Outside the bar, she stopped and took a deep breath. She would never find Millie in this hustle and bustle. Her hands shook as she pulled her mobile from her purse. Quickly, she had texted Millie that she would take an Uber home.

During the ride back to her apartment, and even later as she lay in her bed, Kim continued to replay what had happened in the alley in her mind. In fact, when she closed her eyes, she saw it in front of her. Also, in her mind, the moment went much further. In her mind, he was touching her, kissing her. In her mind, they were having sex in that alley. In her mind, she was having sex with Antonio.

When Kim awoke the next morning, she was completely overtired. She had barely gotten a wink of sleep the previous night. Drowsy, she went to the coffee maker. Fortunately, she had turned on the timer last night, so the coffee was all ready.

As she poured herself the coffee, she couldn't help thinking about the previous evening again. And of Antonio. What would it be like if they came face to face at the precinct? Would things be awkward between the two of them?

She stared thoughtfully at the cup in her hand.

Again Kim's thoughts wandered to the previous evening. To Antonio. What had they both been thinking?! A kiss. A forbidden moment. And such a moment of weakness could cost her her place in the unit. Hank Voight had strict rules about intelligence.

The knock on her door jolted Kim out of her thoughts. Kim guessed it would be Millie, after all, she had just left her at the bar yesterday. Without any real explanation. And now Millie would want an explanation. You know, about yesterday.

As she opened the door, Millie was standing in the doorway.

" C' mon in," was all Kim said.

After closing the door behind Millie, Kim turned to her friend. She guessed the words Millie would say to her. However, she hadn't expected the words that came next. They weren't reproaches for leaving her friend alone, but words of concern.

"What was going on yesterday, anyway? You weren't just tired, were you? We once used to stay up all night, too, didn't we?"

"I was really just tired. The day was exhausting," Kim replied.

Millie eyed her friend. No, Kim hadn't just been tired, Millie was absolutely sure of that. Something had to have happened. Yesterday. With this man.

"Oh sweetie, what's wrong?" Kim could clearly see the concern in Millie's gaze.

"Nothing," Kim lied. She couldn't talk about it.

" Try again with the truth" Millie pleaded, sitting down at the table with Kim.

Kim lowered her eyes and stared at the coffee cup in her hand. Maybe she should talk to Millie about this. You know, about Friday and the kiss. Maybe Millie had some advice for her. Millie might know what she should do. I mean, what she could do. About Antonio. For the thoughts that wouldn't leave her alone.

"It's your colleague, this Antonio, isn't it?" asked Millie cautiously.

Kim just nodded.

"Did he hurt you?" Millie feared the worst.

"No," Kim shook her head emphatically.

"But-"

"We kissed," she then confessed to her friend.

Wordlessly, Millie looked at her friend and waited for Kim to continue. She suspected there was more to this story. Namely, that it hadn't just been a kiss. At least not for Kim.

Kim sighed before she began to recount the previous evening and the chaos inside her.

As Kim sat at her desk on Monday, she had successfully blocked out the events of a previous Friday and the conversation with Millie the next day. Well, partially, because Millie's parting words still haunted her: 'Maybe because you want that kiss to mean something, you just don't want to move on from it.'

No, Kim didn't want him to mean anything more. She wanted to forget him. But that was so hard. So hard to banish the thought to the far corner of her mind when they kept looking at each other like that. Looking over and over at each other.

Sighing, Kim put the file back on the pile. She just couldn't concentrate. Maybe a coffee would help her. Maybe it would dispel the fatigue of another sleepless night. Maybe it would help her to think clearly again. Thoughts that didn't revolve around Antonio and the kiss.

"I'm going to get some coffee," Kim mumbled as she stood up and walked toward the coffee maker.

Kim was pouring herself a coffee when she heard footsteps behind her.

She didn't have to turn around to know who had followed her here. Antonio. Oh, and she knew why. The thing they'd done in the alley in behind the bar, it haunted her.

"Kim," she heard his voice, "can we talk?"

Kim hesitated before shaking her head. Talking wasn't a good idea, at least not until she had sorted out the mess in her mind herself.

"I don't think that's a good idea," she said therefore.

"You mean because of what happened between us," Antonio mused.

"Yes."

"That's why I want to talk to you. So . . I, oh Kim. . . I don't know what that was either. The thing on Friday, but . Kim, we were, well you know," he said then.

In the last few days he had always thought about what had happened on Friday. Antonio never thought something like that would happen between Kim and him. However, when he had seen her, he still couldn't get a clear thought about it. His mind was still with Kim and that dress. Of what might have happened. Just between the two of them. And the question as to whether he had really wanted it. The kiss. And maybe more.

"We kissed," Kim explained, putting into words what they had done.

"That was-"

"A mistake."

"We shouldn't have done that, but," Antonio tried to explain to her. He wanted to explain to her that in that moment his mind had shut down. In that moment when he had seen Kim. The moment he hadn't seen Kim, his partner, but Kim, the woman.

Antonio wasn't sure if that was really the point. A mistake. But he had come here to tell her that they couldn't do it again. No way. And yet, as he looked at her now, standing before him . . . And then at the same time they took a step towards each other. It was as if some inner power was drawing them magically together.

"Kim," he murmured and raised his hand, gently stroking her cheek.

"I," Kim broke off and put her hand on his chest, feeling the fabric under her fingertips. Felt his heartbeat quicken.

They both knew what was about to happen. What they were about to do. Here. Now. But then reason prevailed. So to speak. They weren't allowed to. It had already been a mistake the first time. And they were not allowed to repeat it. Not ever.

"I have to finish the report," Kim said then, breaking away from him. They were a team. Partners. They weren't allowed to be more. Not even for one night. Or a fleeting moment here at the precinct.

Without looking at him again, she went back to her desk. But her thoughts lingered. Stayed with Antonio. And this whole situation. Why had this happened? Why had she kissed Antonio on Friday? Why did she want to do it again? Kim didn't know. Didn't want to answer the questions for herself.

"Are you okay?" she heard Al's concerned voice.

"Yeah," Kim replied, even if it wasn't true. Still, she didn't have a better answer. Neither for Al, nor for herself.
