Ch 15 Dark Times

Kovu's green eyes went wide with horror as he watched his brother hit the ground. "Kopa!" he cried out, running over to check on his brother. Dogo was watching all of this with shock as he debated on rather or not he should stick around. But the young jackal thought it would be better for him if he stuck around. Kovu lowered his head to check Kopa's breathing. But before he could do anything else suddenly Kopa's eyes flew opened and he let out a growl. "Whoa!" Kovu cried out as he stumbled away from Kopa, who was now on his feet and glaring at him. "Kopa," Kovu began. But he didn't get a chance to finish when Kopa let out another growl.

"Time to teach you a lesson," Kopa hissed, his voice barely audible. Kovu blinked in surprise. Kopa's voice didn't sound like his normal voice. It almost sound evil. Like someone or something was possessing him. But Kovu couldn't place just who or what that was. Kovu opened his mouth to speak but before he could say or do anything Kopa lunged at Kovu, tackling him to the ground. Kopa wasted no time and began to pummel his brother, making sure he aimed for his head as much as possible.

"Kopa please," Kovu pleaded as he tried his best to block his brother's blows. "Please stop!"

"You'll never learn," came Kopa's hate filled voice as he continued his viscous attack on Kovu. As much as Kovu tried he couldn't block his brother's blows. "No one is in charge but me! And it's high time you and everyone else realized that!"

"Kopa stop!" Kovu said, shoving Kopa off of him. Kovu tried to get to his feet but the spinning in his head prevented him from doing so. Kovu wiped the blood away from his eyes and tried to focus and he slowly got to his feet but Kopa quickly recovered and tackled Kovu once again.

"I should have listened to Kion long ago," Kopa growled as he began to hit Kovu once again. "He's been right all this time! He's always been right!"

"No!" Kovu shouted. "He's not right! You need to fight him Kopa! Don't let him win!"

"Oh you fool," Kopa said, only his voice sounded more like Kion's than his. "Can't you see? I've already won!" With that Kopa let out a roar and hit Kovu hard in the head, sending him into a world of black.

Meanwhile back at Pride Rock Simba and the rest of the group were in stunned silence at Kuato's words. Finally Simba found his voice. "Kuato surly you must be mistaken about this," the King said after a few minutes of stunned silence.

"No Simba I'm not mistaken," Kuato said, a hint of sadness in his voice. "Moto and Chana were very adamant about Kopa being the one that attacked them."

"Kopa wouldn't do something like that," Kiara said, shaking her head. "He's Moto, Chana, and Kijana's friend. He would never hurt them."

"I know how difficult this is for you all," Kuato said. "And trust me its not easy for me or my family either."

"There's got to be a reason for all this," Asha said, her voice coming out very soft. "Kopa is a sweet boy. He's been trying so hard to fit in."

"I knew all this stress was getting to him," Jasiri said as she too shook her head. "He hasn't been sleeping well and he's been really moody lately. But I never imagined he'd go this far."

"Maybe..." Simba began. But just then Vitani came running into the cave.

"Dad!" the tan coated young Princess cried out. "Mom! Kovu's been attacked!"

"What?!" the group cried out, their eyes wide with horror.

"Zazu came and informed us!" Vitani continued. "He said Kovu was laying near the Outland border and there was blood all around him. Nuka, Chafu and Safara are already heading there!"

"Oh Kings Above!" Asha cried out, her blue eyes wide with horror. "My baby!" With that the gold lioness dashed out of the cave with Simba and the rest of the group right behind her.

The group ran until they reached the area near the Outland border. There they, to their horror, saw Kovu laying in a pool of blood not moving. "Kovu!" the group cried out their eyes wide.

"My baby!" Asha wailed as she raced over to her injured son. Nuka was off to the side, comforting Safara, who had tears streaming down her face. Chafu was doing his best to stop the bleeding. Kiara and Jasiri quickly went to help the grey coated lion

"I'm going to get Rafiki," Vitani cried out, racing towards Rafiki's Tree.

"I think I've got the bleeding under control," Chafu said with a sigh.

"You mean we got the bleeding under control," Kiara said with a sigh of her own.

"Yeah whatever," Chafu said, rolling his eyes. "But I don't think Kovu's stable enough to move."

"We can't just leave him here," Safara sniffled, wiping her eyes with her paw.

"And we won't," a voice cried out. The group turned and saw Vitani running towards them with Rafiki on her back.

"Oh my what happened here?" Rafiki said as he grabbed his bag and began to examine Kovu. While he was working the group heard a low groan. Looking down they saw that Kovu was waking up.

"What..." Kovu chocked out, his voice coming out hoarse and weak. "What's happening? Why..."

"Shh its alright darling," Asha said, gently nuzzling her son. "You were attacked but don't you worry Rafiki is going to take good care of you."

"Who did this to you?" Safara asked, making sure she kept her voice calm as she gently nuzzled her love.

"I...I don't remember," Kovu managed to get out. "Everything...happened...so...fast...I..." Then his green eyes went wide as he remembered Kopa attacking him.

"Honey what's wrong?" Safara asked.

"I...I remember," Kovu said softly. "I remember who attacked me. It...it...was..." Kovu's voice was getting weaker and weaker and he was breathing heavily.

"Shh just rest darling," Asha said gently. Kovu nodded and closed his eyes as he passed out once again.

"He should be stable enough to move now," Rafiki informed the group. "But you must be vedy careful." The group nodded and Nuka and Simba got under Kovu's front half while Chafu, Kiara, and Vitani go under his back half. Then the group began the walk back to Pride Rock.

Meanwhile Kopa and Dogo had reached the area of the Outlands where Sharka and Tama were staying. "Well now what do we have here?" Sharka asked as she and Tama approached Kopa and Dogo.

"I told you I'd get him to come," Dogo said with a smile. "And I did."

"Yes we can see that," Tama said, rolling her blue eyes. Dogo let out a growl but said nothing to Tama. Then the tan coated lioness turned towards Kopa and said, "Are you willing to help us now?"

"Look Tama lets get one thing straight here," Kopa snapped. "I don't like you or Sharka. Not one little bit. Got that?"

"And we don't like you either Kopa," Sharka shot back. "So we're on the same page on that."

"But lets set our feelings aside for now shall we?" Tama said, looking from Sharka to Kopa, who both nodded in agreement. "Alright then," Tama said. "Now as I was asking before: are you helping us or not Kopa?"

"Yeah," Kopa said, his voice a slight growl. "I'm willing to help. Simba and his family are going down once and for all."
