Chapter One: Ready? Action!
Where did it all begin for Hinata Hyuga? Maybe it started in third grade when she was voted the prettiest girl in her class. Or perhaps it was when she promised herself that no one would ever topple over her again.
"Hinata, this is your last year of school, and you're still an exceptional student. If you keep this up, you have a good chance of entering Sarutobi University." Homeroom teacher, Kurenai Yuhi, said as she flipped through the paperwork. "There are a lot of scholarships—"
The young eighteen-year-old girl drowned out the woman once hearing the word scholarships. Of course, she would say something like that, but did she have to say it so loudly? Her round eyes looked back and forth to see if there were any students in the teacher's office. Luckily, there wasn't, but it still made her uneasy.
"Thank you, Kurenai," Hinata smiled warmly. "I'll continue to work on my grades."
Leaning back in the chair, she placed the paperwork on the table and stared warmly at her pupil. "Now, only if we can bring Naruto down; that would be good, huh?" She laughed as if it was the funniest joke said.
Before she could respond, the bell chimed, and a herd of students ran down the school halls to get to their first period.
"Lunch went by so fast," Kurenai mumbled under her breath. "Let's discuss your application in the next few months, okay?"
Smiling, Hinata got up from the hard seat and bowed. "Have a nice day, Kurenai-sensei."
Once the door closed behind her, her warm smile was replaced with a frown. That would have been terrible if someone had been there. "Can't she learn to keep her fucking mouth shut?" She sighed as she ran her fingers through her hair. "It's only the second week of school, and she's already bombarding me with these applications."
She balled her fist as she walked down the empty halls.
"Aren't you going to be late for class, Hinata?"
Stopping in her tracks, she looked over her shoulder and smiled. Behind her was Naruto Namikaze, the wealthiest and most popular boy at Kaguya Private Academy. Everything around him glowed from head to toe. He wore the best designer outfits and the most expensive watches. He reeked of money which made Hinata envious.
His father was one of Asia's wealthiest men who owned several companies across Asia, Europe, and America. He also owned more than a thousand stores spread across Asia.
"This is only the first bell," She replied cheekily.
"I supposed, but you know how Iruka-sensei gets. It'll be best to make it to class before the second bell rings."
Hinata remained quiet as she walked side by side with Naruto. She had known him since she entered Kaguya Private Academy in ninth grade. He was rich, handsome, and popular. It was everything she needed to make her presence known in school.
The door slid open, and suddenly a wave of "Ooooos" echoed throughout the class as the two entered the room.
"Oh, stop it," Hinata said playfully as she slid into her seat in the middle row.
"How can you tell us to stop it when you two enter the class at the same time?" Her friend, Sakura, said teasingly. "You two should just go out!"
"I think they're secretly going out," Ino, another friend, said. She turned around and stared at Hinata. "Admit it. We can handle it." There was a playful look in her eyes as she said that.
"Don't spread rumors," Hinata said, tapping her forehead.
"Ow." Ino rubbed the middle of her forehead.
"Naruto and I are strictly friends," She replied, taking a glimpse of Naruto.
Hinata never knew the appeal of romance or the concept of love. It seems he was getting the same shit from his so-called friends. Honestly, she would have only dated Naruto for his lifestyle and fame or any rich man for that matter. It all felt like a burden being tied down. The only pro of dating him would be for what he has, but alas, she knew her place. It would be in her best interest not to get involved with him. After all, he was grown into this lifestyle.
"Let's go get some mani-pedi after classes," Sakura said, looking over her one-week-old nails.
"I can't today. Papa is taking me out to an expensive dinner with his clients." Ino said, staring into the mirror.
"Hinata?" Sakura piped up. "When's the last time you got your nails done?" Hinata looked over her fresh, natural nails, which made Sakura sigh. "Why are your nails so long and natural, Hinata?"
"Because I was born with them," She laughed.
"Um, S-Sakura. Can you keep it down? Some of us are trying to study."
"S-S-Sakura," the pink-haired girl mocked as she swirled around to glare at the shy girl behind her. "Say it correctly. It's Sakura, not S-S-Sakura,"
Ino giggled softly, and that made Sakura smirk. "Ne, why don't you get me some strawberry milk?"
The shy girl, Yuno, stared shockingly at her. "I-I-"She bit down on her lip.
"You what?" Sakura snarled, inching her face closer to the fragile girl. "Get my fucking strawberry milk before I shove my hand down your throat and yank it out."
Yuno looked at her desk mate and friend, but she quickly looked away. She had warned her not to say anything, but now she was on her own.
"Girls are so scary," Kiba said, leaning back in the chair. "Hey Yuno, bring me one too!" He smirked as he looked over at the girl.
The chair scraped against the tile floor as she quickly left her desk when seeing the dangerous look Sakura gave. Hinata looked at the sobbing girl briefly before she went back to looking at her beautiful nails. A soft smile settled on her lips. Of course, her fingernails were perfect. She inherited them from her grandmother.
The sun beamed down on the group of students as they sat down on the bleachers to watch the basketball match happening on the court. Every girl swooned over the tall, handsome teen as he threw the basketball in the net. They screamed loudly as he made the shot.
"I swear he's so fucking perfect," Sakura sighed dreamily as she watched the sweat glisten from the blonde boy.
"Have you seen his father?" Ino scoffed. "The looks are uncanny."
"Really? I think he looks more like his mom than his dad." Sakura said, fanning herself.
"Why don't you ask him out?" Kin asked.
"I mean, I could-" She looked over at Hinata briefly, who was paying no attention to their conversation or the scene below. "But I don't want to ruin Hinata's chances."
Ino scoffed. "You'd have to be a competition for that to happen."
Kin nudged Sakura, who had rolled her eyes. They looked at one another briefly before they giggled. Ino glanced at Sakura, who instantly locked eyes with her before she smirked.
"Sakura, if you want your teeth to remain in your mouth, I suggest you don't show it," Hinata said threateningly as she stared straight into her soul.
Sakura's mouth opened in disbelief. "W-what! I didn't even say anything."
Hinata's vision turned dark suddenly. There were a few giggles, and she quickly pulled the towel off her head. Did his sweat even have a smell?
"Naruto, are you still going to Kiba's party this weekend?" Sakura asked, smiling from ear to ear.
"Are you going, Hinata?" He asked, looking down at the girl who threw his towel at Kin. The smile Sakura wore trembled slightly, but she remained sane. They were basically looking into one another's eyes, oblivious to the constant stares they were receiving.
"Yes," She answered.
"Would you like to ride together?"
She tilted her head back to stare at him. "It wouldn't kill you to smile, ya know." She smirked.
There were only a few times anyone had ever seen Naruto smile, and if you did, it was a blessing. He always had a neutral expression, making it hard for anyone to figure out what he was thinking.
"For you, I will." He said, spreading his lips slightly.
"You two lovebirds are making me sick," Kiba said, walking between them. "Let's take a shower," he said, slinging his arm around Naruto. "I'll show you how you're supposed to pick up girls," They heard Kiba say as both he and Naruto walked away.
"I swear he can be such a cockblocker!" Ino frowned.
"Can we talk about how Naruto smiled for Hinata?" Kin mentioned. "You two should totally date."
"That's what I've been saying this entire time," Sakura pointed out. "They make a hot couple."
"I forgot my economics book," Hinata said, standing up. "I'll meet you in class."
When she was out of earshot, Sakura sighed loudly. "I fucking hate her guts."
"You hate her because she took your chances away, but you were never going to get with him," Ino said, shrugging.
"You can be such a fucking bitch at times," Sakura said, glaring at her. "It just irritates me. Clearly, Naruto is into her, so why can't she catch the fucking hint."
"Maybe she has morals," Ino replied.
"Says the one who got fuck by him on the second day of school." Sakura laughed.
"Hmmm, it was the third day," Ino replied. "But didn't you lose your virginity to him within the first few hours of ninth grade?" Kin laughed loudly at their commentary. "Why are you laughing? Didn't he fuck you a few months ago?"
"He didn't fuck me. I fucked him." Kin said, scoffing.
"Sure," Both Sakura and Ino said, rolling their eyes.
"What are you going to wear to Kiba's party?" Sakura questioned. "I was going to wear my K designer dress."
"Didn't you wear that last time?" Kin said, standing up.
"No."
Quiet sobs were coming from the homeroom, and the closer she got to it, the more audible it was. It was Yuno and her friend, Mimi. The two girls jumped when the door opened. Hinata didn't pay any mind to them as she approached her desk.
She couldn't stand cowardly people. Mimi wouldn't have gotten half the crap she got from her classmates if she had cared for herself. She wasn't an ugly girl; even Hinata could see the beauty behind those ugly glasses and feracious pigtails, but what did it matter? If she didn't see it now, when would she? Her white shirt was stained with the strawberry milk from earlier.
"Let's go to the nurse's office, Mimi," Yuno whispered.
Mimi got up shakenly and followed her friend out of class.
How pitiful looking.
Upon entering ninth grade, Hinata knew who to surround herself with and who to stay away from. Surround yourself with Sakura and her click, and stay away from weak people like Mimi and the others. She knew not to let Sakura or anyone get the last say, or else they would trample all over her. Pretend you had it made, and no one would bother you. Have Naruto as a friend, and you were in.
Before entering ninth grade, she had learned a lot about the students in her class. This was crucial for her plans, and she managed to make it without mishaps for four years.
She grabbed the book from the desk and turned around to see the door slide open.
"Mr. Namikaze, I feel like you're stalking me," Hinata said, smiling.
"Maybe I am, Ms. Hyuga." He responded as he strolled towards his desk.
"Skipping class again? You know, it's hard to believe you're always on top." She walked next to him.
"I tend to remember many things, so there's no need to waste my time with something so trivial."
"You sound bored."
"I won't be bored for long."
"Oh. Did you find another girl to fuck? Maybe Sakura again?"
"If I were a woman, I wouldn't want someone to know who I'm fucking," Naruto said, grabbing his bag from the station. "Right?" He looked over at her. Hinata was taken aback once seeing the look in his eyes. There was just something about the look he gave her. Did he know something?
"I wouldn't know," She smiled.
"Of course, you wouldn't." He stepped in front of her. "I'm leaving for the day."
Nodding, she turned around, and just as she was about to leave, she heard him say, "Let's have fun tomorrow." Deciding not to pay any mind to what he said, she walked out of the classroom and closed the door behind her.
Hinata Hyuga had it all. Grades, frenemies, brains, and beauty. She was envied by half the female population, and all the men wanted her. She had everything she needed, and that fueled her ego in a way. Nothing could ruin this… right?
After four years of being on top, who could possibly push her off her throne?
That's what she always believed until today. Everything she worked so hard for was crumbling down, fast.
"What are you saying?" Hinata said, tightening the grip around her phone.
"The only one who knew about Karin's abortion was us four," Ino said, crossing her arms. "I didn't say anything, nor did Kin and Sakura."
"Did you say something to anyone? Someone is using it to blackmail her!" Sakura yelled.
"And it isn't me," Kin scoffed. "That only leaves you."
Karin Uzumaki, cousin of Naruto Namikaze. Loud, boisterous, and a slut. For someone with the Uzumaki blood, Hinata figured the girl would have had some form of common sense, but there was none there. They had told her time after time to go on birth control or use some form of contraceptives when doing her dirty deeds, but it was always one excuse after the other.
"Birth control is going to make me fat."
"I don't like how condoms feel."
"He wants it raw."
She knew better than to spread a rumor about Karin being that she was Naruto's close cousin. That was a death wish on its own.
"And you think I said something?" Hinata said, completely baffled at the accusation. "Why would I do that?"
"Because the person who is blackmailing her specifically mentioned your name," Ino said, holding up the phone for her to take a good look at the screenshots.
Hinata felt a piece of her chip. "No. I didn't say anything! You can look at my phone," Hinata said, pushing the phone to Sakura.
Sakura snatched the phone from Hinata and looked through her messages. There was a group chat between them and some other girls, a message from some unknown people, and Naruto.
Scoffing, she threw the phone at Hinata, who quickly caught it. "I don't see anything," She mumbled. "But why would they call your name? Do you know how much trouble Karin is in if news leaks?"
"You don't want the Uzumaki's after you," Sakura warned. "Especially Naruto."
"Well, I didn't. It could be anyone blackmailing her. Who's to say it isn't any of the nurses from the abortion clinic?" Hinata questioned, raising her eyebrow. "What am I going to gain by doing something like that?"
"It better not be you," Kin said, jabbing Hinata on her collarbone. "If we find out you're responsible for saying anything, then you're going to pay." She flipped her long dark hair and walked away with Sakura and Ino following her.
Once they were gone, Hinata rushed to the girl's restroom and hurled everything she had for breakfast in the toilet. Every nerve in her body trembled as the worst-case scenario came to mind. Somebody was trying to reach for her crown.
Her mind was in shambles as she thought about who it could be. Her name had never come up in any sticky situation or rumors that could harm her reputation. So maybe she wasn't the friendliest with those she pitied, but still!
Shakenly, she walked towards the counter and stared at her image in the mirror. She couldn't let them see her like this. She just couldn't.
Taking a deep breath, Hinata slid open the wooden door and made her way in. She scanned the classroom to see if anything was out of the ordinary. Still, she couldn't detect anything amiss besides her friends' demeanor so far. It was understandable, but what now? How could she win their trust back and keep her crown on?
As she walked down the aisle, she noticed Naruto was not there. The pits of her stomach churned for some odd reason. Did Karin tell him? Did he know? If anyone were close to Naruto would be his baby cousin, Karin Uzumaki.
She didn't even know when she got to her seat, but she did, and the tension was there. Sakura didn't acknowledge her. Instead, she looked through her social media page. Ino didn't turn around, either. Would anyone else notice the tension between them? This was not good!
A rich scent entered the classroom, and Hinata turned around to see Naruto waltzing through the second door.
"I thought you weren't going to make it!" Kiba shouted excitingly.
Time froze, and she and Naruto instantly locked eyes with one another. Suddenly, he turned his gaze towards Kiba, and another part of her chipped. He knew.
The second period came, and they were supposed to switch classes. Sakura and Ino wasted no time leaving her behind, and that's when the rumors started.
"Did they get into a fight?"
"That's weird. I guess they're not friends anymore."
"I wondered who started it?"
"Probably Sakura. You know how much of a hot head she is."
The class got quieter until nobody was supposedly left. As she grabbed her books from under her desk, she went to stand up until she noticed Naruto, who remained seated. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she called out to him. "N-Naruto?"
"I told Karin you wouldn't do something like that." He finally spoke after a few seconds of dead air. "After all, what would you have to gain from that? You already have a social media following. You're rich and smart. You're not stupid."
Rich? If only he knew.
"You're right. What do I have to gain from that?" Hinata mumbled. "T-thank you for believing me." She lowered her head.
"She should be telling Ino and Sakura shortly. Hopefully, she'll learn to keep her mouth shut to who she spills her secrets to."
Hinata nodded slowly as she gazed at him. "We're going to be late for class, or will you skip today?"
"Hinata. You never told me if you wanted a ride to the party." He said, glancing at her.
"I don't want to look like some commoner," Hinata smiled cheekily.
"You're right." He said, pushing the chair back as he stood up.
"Let's walk to class together," Hinata suggested.
From time to time, she would look at Naruto. He was handsome, but there was something underneath that gorgeous face. She had felt this way for some time but couldn't put her finger on it. Naruto held a lot of power in this school, enough power to make or break you, and she had seen it for herself.
One of his closest friends was an example of it. Nobody knew exactly what happened but during the second semester of ninth grade. Kenji was known, immensely popular, had looks, and was wealthy. He had everything needed to make it at Kaguya Private Academy, especially being Naruto's right-hand man. However, one day Naruto entered the cafeteria and poured a carton of chocolate milk all over his head. It was almost as if a target was placed on him, and he was quickly ostracized from the entire school. His grades plummet really fast.
He lost his two front teeth when a baseball hit his mouth, and to this day, nobody knows if it was Naruto or someone else who did it. Kenji's parents lost their business and assets, and eventually, by the third semester, he had to withdraw from school.
Therefore no one wanted to make Naruto Namikaze an enemy. There was too much to lose, and he could cease your existence.
"Maybe I will take that offer," Hinata said, grinning. "Can you pick me up?"
"I can," he looked down at her briefly. "Where do you live?"
"The Hyde's. Do you know where that's at?"
Unknown to her, he smirked. "That's a very expensive place. One bedroom is roughly three thousand dollars a month."
"It is, but baa-chan only wants what's best for me."
"Then I shall be there at seven sharp."
"Let's ride in your most expensive car," She grinned.
"Only the best for you, Hinata."
Although Karin confronted the girls by telling them Hinata couldn't do such a thing, they were still weary. The seeds of doubt had already sprouted.
"I know Karin said it wasn't her, but I've been feeling something fishy about her for a long time," Sakura said, swiping through Hinata's pictures. She had some nice photos showing her on a yacht, a beach resort, expensive purses, shoes, perfumes, and even the front of her apartment complex. It was a luxury apartment that almost cost three thousand a month.
"I thought I was the only one," Kin added. "She's been to our house. Why hasn't she invited us to hers?"
"Or the fact that she never buys anything when going out clothes shopping." Ino pointed out. "I think her pictures are fake."
"I think she is a fake," Sakura commented. "Ah, I don't trust her now." She said, tilting her head back. "We said a lot of things in the group chats."
"Do you notice she's always the first one here or the last to school? Think about it. We've never seen her luxury car or driver." Kin laughed.
"You're right," Ino said in awe. "I never noticed that."
"Is she one of those students who got a scholarship?" Sakura scoffed. "That little bitch was lying the entire time."
"How pathetic."
"Shush, here she comes," Sakura mumbled.
Hinata knew something was amiss. Now, they would start questioning her entire existence, and she didn't even know how she remained so calm.
"Ne, Hinata," Kin said, twisting her hair. "The girls wanted to throw a slumber party. Do you mind hosting?"
Her heart skipped a beat. "Not at this time," She managed to say.
"Awe~," Sakura said, wrapping her arm around Hinata's own. "Are you still upset about earlier? Karin said it wasn't you. Besides, you always sleep at our place. It's only fair."
"I'm not upset," Hinata said, wiggling her way from Sakura's grasp, "but I've been very busy lately."
"You're always busy." Ino frowned.
"Maybe some other time," Hinata muttered.
She might have pulled a few strings if they had given her more time, but she already knew what they were doing. They were beginning to question her every word.
"Did you find out what you will wear to Kiba's party?" Kin asked. "You can't wear pink, blue, or green. Those colors are already taken."
"I'll stick to my color," Hinata replied, grabbing some of her belongings.
"Are you still mad?" Sakura asked, a slight harshness in her tone was evident. "Don't be a bitch. You can't blame us for thinking that."
"You would have done the same thing," Ino added fire to the fuel.
"I'm not being a bitch, and I am not upset. I don't blame you since someone called my name into it, but still," Hinata murmured. "I'm going to the library."
"We'll see you at the party Saturday," Sakura said, grinning.
"Yeah," Hinata mumbled, eyeing her. There was an insincere glint in her jade eyes that Hinata could not shake off. Her crown was slightly tilted. Just how long would she be able to hold onto it?
