It was late, long past midnight and Draco was in Diagon Alley; he'd been drinking in the Leaky Caldron again with his friends and had opted to walk to the apparition point in the alley rather than floo home as his friend's had done. Draco was just passing the entrance to Knockturn Alley when he heard a faint bang and the sounds of a scuffle. Draco had every intention to continue past the Alley, to continue his journey home, just three more feet and he'd be able to apparate to his comfortable warm bed.
"Get off me," a shrill familiar voice called, and Draco found himself pulling out his wand, and stumbling into the darkened Knockturn Alley.
"Such a pretty little Mudblood," a dark voice whispered cruelly, Draco shivered, he knew that voice too, it was the voice of Augustus Rockwood, one of the many Death Eaters who had escaped after the final battle.
"Please stop," the witch begged, and Draco cringed he knew the sick things that Rookwood liked to do to his victims, Draco cast a concealment charm over himself before rounding the corner. Granger was on the floor her head surrounded by a pool of blood where she had hit the cobbled street floor. Rockwood was lent over her pawing at her flesh, his hands ripping the fabric of the dark dress she was wearing. Draco could see that Granger was struggling against the large Death Eater, one hand clawing at the dirt for her wand that lay just out of reach while her other was held tightly in one of Rookwood's thick beefy hands. Rookwood chuckle: "are you a virgin Mudblood," he asked her, one stubby hand sliding up her exposed thigh.
"Please don't do this," she begged, tears sliding down her cheeks. Draco had seen enough, raising his wand he hit the Death Eater with the Immobulus curse and then tied him securely with ropes.
"I've got you Granger, you're going to be okay," he told her leaning down beside her as he cancelled his concealing charm. Granger stared at him with wide doe like eyes, he could see purple bruising already taking form around her right eye and blood was trickling down from her mouth where her bottom lip was split. He grimaced as he assessed her form for further damage.
"Take me to Fred and George, no hospital" she pleaded before her eyes rolled backwards. Draco cast a stabilizing charm on her body so he could transport her without causing her further injury.
"Malfoy you're a traitorous bastard," Rockwood snarled viciously his yellow teeth bared towards him, Draco cast a silencing charm on the man and began to levitate him as he lifted the brunette witch into his arms; frowning at how easy it was to carry her, she had always been petite, but she was light, too light, he could feel her bones, could see them protruding from her flesh. It was unhealthy, she was too skinny.
Draco hurried with the unconscious witch out of Knockturn Alley and along Diagon until he came to the vibrant purple store front that was Weasley's Wizard's Wheezer's. Setting Rockwood down at his feet he held Granger close with one arm and raised his fist to knock loudly on the shops front door. Silence followed his bangs for a moment and Draco worried that nobody was home but soon footsteps could be heard along with the grumbling of voices. A light was lit at the far side of the shop and a ginger wizard emerged through a once darkened doorway.
"Who is it the man asked through a yawn as he approached the door, his wand loosely held in his hand.
"Draco Malfoy," Draco answered honestly.
"What the fuck do you want ferret," the man asked tiredly.
"I have Granger she's injured," he replied, Draco felt the wards in front of him drop as the door of the shop was pulled open hurriedly, a wand was shoved into his face as the red headed man's eyes flicked from Draco to Granger and then towards the bound Rockwood on his feet, it took seconds for him to assess the situation before he was lowering his wand.
"FREDDIE GET KINGSLEY," the twin yelled, taking Granger into his arms.
"What the fuck happened Malfoy," he asked him; gesturing for him to follow him, Draco did, levitating Rockwood behind him.
"I found him attempting to rape her, I stopped him and followed her wishes to bring her here" he replied as he followed George Weasley through the store and up the set of stairs to the flat, he shared with his twin. To Draco's surprise the twins living room was tastefully decorated in shades of white and blue however the wand of Fred Weasley digging into his throat came of no surprise at all.
"What have you done to her," the redheaded man asked angrily.
"Freddie, he saved her," George Weasley told his twin as he laid the witch onto a small blue sofa, Fred Weasley stared at him in disbelief but to Draco's relief he lowered his wand.
"Oh, what on earth have you done to yourself this time Mi," the redhead asked settling onto his knees next to the girl. Draco watched as the twins worked together performing diagnostic charms and heeling the wounds Granger had sustained during the attack.
"I'll put her in our spare room," Fred said eventually, brushing a loose curl tenderly out of her face before lifting the girl into his arms and leaving the room. Draco listened as his footsteps grew quieter before jumping at the unexpected sound of the floo flaring to life.
"George, sorry to keep you waiting," Kingsley Shackbolts deep voice called as he stepped out of the fireplace.
"No problem at all Kings," the redhead smiled shaking the Ministers hand. Draco couldn't imagine ever been that friendly with the minister of magic.
"Mr Malfoy this is a surprise," the Minister said nodding in greeting with him, Draco nodded back and stepped aside allowing the Minister to see the bound Death Eater that was behind him.
"Rockwood, the Aurors have been searching for him since the final battle, where was he," the minister asked stepping forward and strengthening the bindings on the dark-haired wizard.
"Attacking Granger in Knockturn Alley," Draco replied.
"Hermione will be fine, she's with Fred," George told the Minister before he could ask about the curly haired witch.
"Mr Malfoy were you the one to capture Rockwood," the minister asked thoughtfully, Draco nodded, and the Minister smiled; "Draco have you ever considered becoming an Auror," he asked.
"What," he asked.
"An Auror Mr Malfoy, we don't have many at the moment and you've done something in one night that the current Aurors have failed to do in four months; we need trained wizards to join our ranks, to help round up the remaining Death Eaters, I think you'd be a good addition to our Auror force," the minister told him.
"I'll think about it," Draco nodded.
