J.D., Lincoln, and Lily were playing video games in the living room while Varie and Laney were reading books when the door swung open, revealing Lori, who was crying.
J.D., Lincoln, and Lily become concerned about Lori.
"What's the matter, Lori?" J.D. asked, concerned.
"Are you okay, Lori?" Lincoln questioned with equal concern.
Lori looked at them with tears in her eyes. "No, I'm not okay! Just leave me alone!" She rushes up to her room, sobbing uncontrollably.
"I wonder what happened," J.D. wondered, his gaze drawn to the stairs, concerned for Lori.
Woody Woodpecker came in, concerned. "J.D. I saw Lori running home as she was crying. What has her so upset?"
J.D. shook his head, uncertain. "I'm not sure what happened, Woody. But we have to find out."
They went upstairs and found Leni, Luna, Luan, Lynn, Lucy, Lana, Lola, and Lisa in the hallway.
"What's going on, girls?" J.D. asked what had happened to Lori.
Luna decided to tell him what had happened because he deserved to know. "Lori and Carol got into a fight, and Lori was badly hurt."
J.D.'s eyes widened in surprise. "Carol did this to her?! What's the matter with that girl?"
"Who is Carol?" Woody asked because he had never heard of her.
"Her name is Carol Pingrey, and she and Lori have a terrible vendetta against one another," Varie explained.
"Lori and Carol were best friends once," Lola recalled.
"However, they began displaying an extremely fierce rivalry about 2 years ago," Lana explained.
J.D. went on to tell him more about it. "I go to school with Lori and Carol, and I've witnessed both of them fight ferociously. It gets really heated. Carol has been better than Lori at everything."
Woody shook his head in disbelief at what he had just heard, and his eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, man. That is not a rivalry. That is a bloody feud."
Leni nodded in agreement and looked worriedly at Lori's door. "Yeah. But Lori looks like she's been mugged."
"Let's go talk to her," J.D. suggested. He said he wanted to find out what was happening and help Lori.
J.D., Varie, Lincoln, Laney, Lily, and Woody open the door to Lori and Leni's room.
"Lori? Are you okay?" Varie asked, concerned about her.
Lori was still sobbing.
"We were told everything, and you can't let this go," Lincoln said, comforting her.
"Lori, you can't let Carol get away with hurting you like this," J.D. said, not wanting her to cry any longer.
Lori was in tears as she spoke. "No matter what I do, Carol will always be better than me at everything!"
J.D., Varie, and Lincoln sit beside her on her bed while Woody, Laney, and Lily sit on the floor.
"Lori, you know that's not true," Varie said as she took her hand in hers.
Lincoln completely agreed with Varie. "Yes, Lori. You're great at lots of things."
Lori has bruises, cuts, and a black eye, which they notice.
Varie shook her head, upset. "These are serious injuries. I can't believe Carol did all of this to you."
Varie immediately started healing Lori.
"She went from a rival to a heartless sociopath," Lily said, upset about how her sister was treated.
"What exactly is a sociopath?" Lincoln asked, because that didn't sound like a good thing.
"It is someone who is incapable of feeling empathy, remorse, or guilt. They do heinous things and don't care who suffers as a result," J.D. explained to him.
"That's terrible," Lincoln exclaimed, covering his mouth in shock.
Varie gave her a friendly smile. "Lori, you are the strongest person in this house, both physically and mentally."
Laney agreed with a nod. "There are also five things you have that Carol will never have."
Lori begins to calm down and decides to ask, "Like what?"
"One, you have ten sisters and one brother who is always there for you," Lincoln explained.
"Carol doesn't have any brothers or sisters," J.D. added.
"You two have a lot of best friends and a great boyfriend," Varie pointed out.
"Bobby is also like a big brother to me," Lincoln explained.
"Carol only has popularity, and that doesn't give you true friendship," J.D. explained.
"Three, you have superpowers just like me, Lily, J.D., and Varie," Laney explained.
Woody's eyes widened. "Whoa! I had no idea you had superpowers."
"It's a long story, Woody," Lily explained, adding that they would tell him more later.
J.D. agreed with a nod. "Carol has no idea what Lori is capable of with her superpowers."
Lily kept trying to cheer her up. "Fourth, you have the love and support of everyone who loves and cares for you."
"Carol will never know what true love is like," J.D. said.
"And a true friend never hurts another friend, and from the extent of these injuries, I can tell that this was personal," Varie said.
J.D. nodded. "Yeah. And the most powerful thing she'll ever have is the drive and determination to protect everyone they consider precious to them."
Laney agreed with a nod. "That's right. A Dark Heart will never comprehend true love, friendship, compassion, or remorse."
Lori feels better after hearing what everyone says and decides enough is enough. "You're right, guys. I've become so concerned about what I might be good at that I've lost faith in myself. Now I want to prove to Carol that I am stronger and better at everything than she is."
"That's the spirit, Lori!" J.D. cheered, happy that Lori was feeling better about herself.
"Show her what you're made of!" Laney yelled.
"We're with you all the way!" Lincoln cheered.
Lori became determined, and it was visible in her eyes. "Let's show that viper Carol that I'm stronger than she is."
Carol was sitting on a park bench the next day, quite pleased with herself for how she thrashed Lori. When she heard Lori call her name.
Lori shouted, "Carol!"
Carol saw Lori and was prepared to fight. "Well, well, well. Hello, Lori. I see you haven't had enough."
Lori became enraged. "You've humiliated me for the last time. I will now show you that I am stronger and better than you," Lori said, her eyes narrowing.
Carol scoffed at that. "Yeah, right. I've always been better than you."
Lori nodded in agreement. "True, but I have something you don't have," Lori pointed out.
Carol's eyes narrowed as if she didn't believe her. "Oh, yeah? What?"
"This." Lori spread her blue angel wings and held mini tornadoes in her hands.
Carol gasped as she saw her rival transform before her eyes. "Lori, what happened to you?"
"I've been given a gift, and I have another thing you'll never have," Lori explained.
Carol's eyes narrowed, and she had to ask, "What?"
J.D., Varie, Laney, Lincoln, Lily, and Woody arrived to help Lori with Carol.
"You'll never know what true friendship is," J.D. stated, standing next to Lori.
"Or true love," Varie explained.
"Or brothers and sisters," Lincoln added.
"Or genuine compassion." Laney then floats in the air, and vines grow from her hand, transforming it into a baton.
"Or a loving family, as well as the drive and determination to protect everyone you care about." Lily spreads her water wings, and water spirals around her arms.
"All you care about is yourself, and that is the sign of a truly worthless human being," Woody explained.
"Get ready, Carol. It's time for payback," Lori said while cracking her knuckles.
Carol became enraged and charged Lori, intending to kill her. Lori punched her in the face and threw a ball of wind at her. It blew her into a nearby tree, and when she got up, Laney summoned a swarm of squirrels, chipmunks, and rabbits, who threw nuts and rocks at Carol. Laney then called a round of robins, and they swooped down on Carol like a swarm of dive bombers, pecking her. Laney quickly summoned a swarm of skunks, who sprayed Carol and caused her to scream so loudly that it could be heard across the galaxy. It returned to the fight. Carol had been soaked in skunk oil.
"Here, let me clean you up," Varie offered.
Varie unleashed a torrent of water that smelled like raw sewage, completely drenching Carol. Laney had Carol entangled in poison ivy vines, and Carol was itching like crazy. Carol noticed chrysanthemum flowers growing on the vines.
"I'm allergic to chrysanthemums!" Carol yelled in horror. The flowers cause her to sneeze uncontrollably.
Laney let go, and Lori unleashed a torrent of arctic wind on Carol. In contrast, Lily unleashed a torrent of glowing blue water, which froze Carol in a large block of blue ice.
"That's a Frozen Defeat," J.D. joked.
Lori, Varie, Lincoln, Laney, Lily, and Woody laugh at his joke.
"Boy, we showed her," Lincoln told J.D.
J.D. concurred. "We certainly did, buddy."
Woody pecked the ice block, cracked it open, and freed Carol; she was shivering.
"I HATE YOU ALL!" Carol screamed, her teeth chattering from the cold.
"Love is stronger than hate, Carol," Lori said, disappointingly looking at her.
Lincoln shook his head. "You brought it all on yourself, Carol."
"Carol, you've had this coming for a long time. Lori is a far better person than you will ever be," J.D. explained to her.
Varie nodded in agreement. "From good riddance to bad rubbish."
Lori glared at her. "Goodbye, Carol Pingrey. Never come near me or my family again."
Mrs. Harrington, J.D.'s teacher, arrived at the fight scene.
J.D. was surprised to see her. "Mrs. Harrington. It's a small world, huh?"
Mrs. Harrington agreed. "True, J.D. I saw and heard everything. You were all fantastic." She turned to Lori. "Lori, I'm very sorry. Carol cheated her way to the top of the homecoming queen ranks, and I now declare you Homecoming Queen of the Year."
"Thank you, Mrs. Harrington," Lori said gratefully, smiling.
Mrs. Harrington returned her smile. "You're very welcome." She then turned to Carol, a disappointed expression on her face. "As for you, Carol. When school starts next Monday, you're going to be in a lot of trouble. At the start of the school year, go to the principal's office."
Carol was defeated and realized she couldn't talk her way out of it, so she said, "Yes, Mrs. Harrington."
Mrs. Harrington nodded and turned to face everyone else. "J.D., Varie, and Lori, I'll see you next week."
"Okay, Mrs. Harrington. Isn't the test first thing tomorrow?" J.D. questioned, wanting to be sure.
"You got it," Mrs. Harrington replied before asking Lori a question about earlier. "But Lori, how did you get those wind powers?"
Laney decided to explain it to her. "They were given to Lori by the Winds of Ga-oh, the Iroquois Wind Spirit."
"Me and my family have 40% Iroquois ancestry," Lincoln said proudly.
Mrs. Harrington let out a breathless gasp. "So the legend is true. Members of my tribe have told me about the Winds of Ga-oh."
Varie was taken aback by the revelation. "I had no idea you were an Iroquois, Mrs. Harrington."
"Neither did I," J.D. said, shaking his head.
Mrs. Harrington responded simply, "Yes, indeed. My people have a long history. Lori, you have been given a wonderful gift, and may you be blessed with our people's blessings, strength, and knowledge."
Lori was deeply moved by what she had just said. "Thank you, Mrs. Harrington. We'll see you next week."
"The same here, Mrs. Harrington," Varie replied.
J.D., Varie, Lori, Lincoln, Laney, Lily, and Woody exited the park and returned home.
Lori explained what happened to Carol as they sat down for dinner. "Then Carol was summoned to the principal's office first thing on Monday, and Mrs. Harrington knew about the legend of the Winds of Ga-oh and bestowed the Iroquois blessings on me."
"Well, it sounds like Carol got what she deserved," Lynn Sr. said after hearing what happened at the park.
J.D. agreed with a nod. "Yeah." He then asked Lynn, "Lynn, you've heard of that saying "Cheaters Never Prosper," right?"
"That's a saying I've heard for a long time, J.D. I may love sports, but I never cheat," Lynn stated firmly.
"That's good," Varie said.
"J.D., Varie, Lincoln, Laney, Lily, and Woody, I can't thank you all enough for everything you did for me," Lori said gratefully, knowing she couldn't have done it without them.
"It's not a problem, Lori," J.D. said. "That's what siblings and friends do. They watch out for one another."
"You'd have done the same for us, Lori," Laney said.
Woody agreed. "Friends are always there when you need them."
Woody then let out his trademark laugh.
"You said it, Woody," Lily said, agreeing.
Rita gave them a warm smile. "It sounds like you've all had a very inspiring day."
"We certainly did, Ms. Rita," J.D. agreed.
Carol Pingrey was suspended for three weeks and barred from using social media. She was also ordered to perform community service.
THE END
