In a secluded alleyway, Madoka found the girl whose soul gem was now almost as dark as her raven-black hair sitting by herself.

It had only been a few weeks since Madoka had regained her memories. She was busy locking up her ballet studio after a long day of ballet lessons when she had seen the one person she was hoping to find drinking coffee just across the street. She had recognized her almost instantly; Homura's serious and powerful demeanor paired with her long, silky-smooth hair had caught Madoka's eyes, and once she got a good look at her face she knew she was standing right across the street from the girl she loved. She had meant to call out to Homura while carefully crossing the street, when a look of panic had crossed her face and she began sprinting away from the coffee shop. Not wanting to let this chance slip her by, against her better judgment, Madoka had run after her in a desperate attempt not to once again lose the time-traveling girl, dodging cars and human traffic until she finally reached Homura.

Once she found the girl she was chasing after, she immediately understood why she had suddenly left the front of the coffee shop; clasped in her hands was a glass object shaped like an egg that was being corrupted on the inside with darkness. Though Madoka had chosen not to remake the world to what it once was before she confronted Homura, Madoka knew that before long, Homura would fall into despair and turn into a witch, causing the Law of Cycles to permanently take her away. In a fit of desperation, Madoka called out the girl's name.

"Homura-chan!"

Homura looked at the one who called her name with a bewildered expression, not knowing why the girl followed her or how she remembered her name after all these years. Homura's mind raced to imagine what could've led to this turn of events, but quickly deduced what had compelled Madoka to follow her. Homura's eyes widened in shock, knowing that the one moment in time she had been dreading for the past six years was finally about to happen. Homura attempted to stand, bracing to fight the very girl she loved, but found she didn't have the energy to stand after having her soul become so blackened with despair. With a mix of dejection and acceptance, Homura simply stated,

"I don't have the energy to fight you, so if you're going to strip me of my powers, you'd better do it now."

Homura closed her eyes, preparing for the worst. All the while, her soul gem was now almost full and began to shake, threatening to leak the despair bottle up inside and force the autonomous Law of Cycles to collect Homura, leaving no one standing in the way of Madoka retaking her position as god of the universe. Seeing the state of her soul gem, Madoka immediately understood what was about to happen to Homura.

There's no way after all this that I can let Homura go right now.

Panicking, Madoka began thinking of any way she could keep her best friend from leaving with the Law of Cycles. She couldn't use her powers to simply stop what was a fundamental rule of the universe, and she didn't have the time to work through the pain Homura must have been feeling. Madoka's eyes grew wide with fear at Homura's impending fate, and began to feel tears stinging at the corners of her eyes. In a fit of desperation, she threw her arms around the girl in an attempt to hold her down to Earth, gripping onto her as tightly as she could. The only other thing Madoka could think to do was scream Homura's name.

Homura!

Ringing in Homura's ear was the sound of the girl that was clinging to her screaming her name. Confused as to what was happening, Homura sat there dumbfounded at the turn of events that had just occurred. She was fully prepared to have her life taken by either the Law of Cycles or by Madoka, so it came to her as a shock that she was still alive, being held by the one person she wanted most to hold her.

Homura felt a great pressure lift from her. Turning her head to look at her soul gem, she noticed that the inky black cloud that had been poisoning her soul had begun to fade. Overwhelmed with everything that was happening, Homura held Madoka back to ground herself in reality. At that moment, she had realized that her shoulder had begun to feel damp. Looking down at the head leaning against her shoulder, she realized that Madoka had begun crying. Rather than asking Madoka what was wrong, Homura took a moment to simply hold the girl in her arms and let the moment pass. After a while the girl in Homura's arms stopped crying. At that point, Homura felt something soft press against the corner of her eye.

"Wha-"

Madoka interrupted Homura by letting out a quiet shush before continuing to kiss Homura. She cupped her hand around the raven-haired girl's cheek and fully crawled into her lap, all the while kissing her forehead, her cheek, her neck. Homura, stunned at what Madoka was doing, couldn't find the ability to speak, leaving nothing to stop Madoka from continuing to dote on the girl she loved. When Homura had finally calmed down, Madoka softly pressed their lips together, causing Homura to close her eyes and tighten her hold around the girl she had spent so long apart from. Pulling away from her for just the briefest moment, Madoka brought her forehead to Homura's and steadied her breath. She placed a hand on her cheek again, using her thumb to caress her love's face.

"I'm right here, Homura-chan."

Homura looked up at the girl holding her, letting what she just said sink in. "What… what do you mean by that?"

In response to her question, Madoka simply replied, "it means exactly what I said. I'm right here with you."

"Madoka, you finally got your memories back, didn't you?"

Madoka nodded her head in response.

"Then are you-"

"Come home with me."

Homura stared in disbelief at Madoka. Then, with the quietest voice, she began to ask, "Aren't you going to take control of the universe back?"

Madoka shook her head and kissed Homura's nose.

"We can talk about that tomorrow. Right now, let's just go home and be together tonight, okay?"

With that, Madoka pressed her lips to Homura again.
