Same Night: Tennessee
Inside: News Van
Dipper and Mabel are a little more alarmed as the cameraman sees the siblings in his News Van and freaks out a bit but says their names loudly as he's still outside the van. The two are hoping this guy doesn't expose them. Mabel tells him lowly, "Shh. Keep it down."
The cameraman repeats, "Dipper and Mabel Pines are in my van!"
Dipper shakes his head and quickly tells the cameraman, "No, they're not."
The cameraman exclaims, "I knew you were both still alive!"
Mabel motions for the cameraman to come inside the van as she whispers, "Come on in. Close the door."
The cameraman climbs in the van and stands inside, breathing heavily as he stares at his idols, "Oh, wow. Can I say, sir, ma'am?"
Dipper nods as he is used to fans freaking out around him, "Yep."
The cameraman claims, "I am your biggest fan." He looks at Mabel, "I'm also your biggest fan, and I had a crush on you... since forever." Mabel nods and looks down, feeling awkward.
Dipper interrupts, uncomfortable with the guy's eyes on his sister, "Okay, first, is this your van? Is anyone else going to come in?"
The cameraman shakes his head, "No, no, no. Just us."
Dipper stands up to shake the cameraman's hand, "Great. What's your name?"
The cameraman answers, "Thompson."
Dipper repeats, "Thompson."
Thompson holds onto Dipper's hand a second longer as he places his hand over Dipper's, "Oh, wow."
Dipper tells Thompson as he gives a firm squeeze, "Right there is fine." He smiles at Thompson.
Thompson breathes out, "Okay."
Dipper chuckles, "Okay? I get a lot of this. It's okay."
Thompson was still really excited, "Oh, good. Can I say?"
Dipper quickly asks, "What do you want? Yeah."
Thompson starts, "I don't know if you can tell, but I have patterned my whole look after you." He gestures around his face and takes off his hat, "My hair's a little..."
Dipper tells Lee, "It's fine."
Thompson explains, "It's not right 'cause there's no product in it."
Dipper stared at Thompson, "Right."
Thompson looks at Mabel and Dipper, "I don't want to make things awkward for you two, but I do have to show you..." He lifts up his left sleeve, "Boom!" Showing them a rough tattoo of Dipper's and Mabel's faces on Thompson's left forearm.
Dipper comments, "A Hispanic Scott Baio." Thompson chuckles. Mabel leans forward and narrows her eyes as she looks at the tattoo. Dipper quickly realizes, "I'm sorry. Is that us?" He points with his thumb between Mabel and himself.
Thompson was a little embarrassed, "Yeah. It's... I mean... I had them do it off a doll that I made, so it's not like it's off a picture. So it's a little bit-" Dipper shares a quick look with Mabel, and she nods.
Dipper interrupts Thompson as he goes up to him and grabs his arms. He tells him seriously, "Thompson. Listen to me, okay? I don't want to clip your wings here. We're both a little over-excited. We have an issue." He points between himself and Mabel, "I'm chasing bad guys. She's trying to grab a little something from some hard-crypt data files."
Thompson looks at Mabel, and she nods, "I don't have enough juice. I need you to jump on the roof... Right?" Thompson nods, "Recalibrate the ISDNs." She gestures to the roof, "Pump it up by about 40%."
Thompson nods, "Got it."
Dipper tells Thompson, "All right? It's a mission."
Thompson breathes out, "Yeah."
Dipper tells Thompson, "Dipper needs Thompson."
Thompson repeats, "And Thompson needs Dipper."
Dipper interrupts, "Be quiet about it. Go."
Thompson nods, "Yeah."
Outside
Thompson was on the roof of the van, doing what he was told. He plugs in two cables before he leans over a bit and bangs the van, giving Dipper and Mabel the go.
Inside: News Van
Hearing the signal, Dipper knocks back, and Mabel immediately starts typing. Mabel hacks into the 'NSC National Security Contractions', putting her username and password, then accessing the files, finding the AIM one, and immediately finding videos and information about AIM.
Mabel finds Edwin Durland and plays his video, Dipper watching over Mabel's shoulder. Edwin, being interviewed by Bill, "What would you regard as the defining moment of your life?"
Edwin's voice answers, "Well, uh, I think that would be the day I decided not to let my injury beat me." Mabel types, finding another video showing Vicky, the woman Dipper fought within the town.
Bill is also interviewing Vicky, "Will you please state your name for the camera?"
Vicky's voice answers, "Vicky." In the video, the camera zooms out to show that she is missing her left forearm. Dipper closes his eyes before continuing to watch.
In the video, the camera changes to show Bill with long hair and with a scruffy beard, "Okay. So, the injections are administered periodically." Mabel narrows her eyes as she watches and reads, grasping the information, knowing there is something off about him, "Addiction will not be tolerated." Dipper points at the screen, frustrated as if saying, 'I knew it'. The siblings continue to watch, "And those who cannot regulate will be out of the program." Mabel types more, and another video pops up, showing Bill with his hair in a ponytail and beard, and a suit, talking to un-shown people, "Once misfits, cripples... You are the next iteration of human evolution." Mabel continues searching and finds a file called 'Project Extremis, Injections Tests, Phase 1, 06/25/09'. 4 cameras show men and women being escorted into a room, "Everybody, before we start... looking back at your life, I promise you there will be nothing as bitter as the memory of that glorious risk you prudently elected to forego." Showing them being strapped onto a stand-up table, "Today is your glory." Showing Vicky being injected with Extremis, "Let's begin."
In the video, as Vicky is taking in extremis, the fiery orange glow appears in her veins. She groans in pain, feeling it go through her. She looks down to see her missing arm grow back. Dipper flinches as Vicky screams in pain, Mabel's expression pained as she watches these people go through a lot of pain.
The man beside Vicky screams in pain as he gets hotter. Dipper leans forward, watching intently.
A shaved and haircutting Bill looks at the man, seeing the Extremis getting hotter within him. Bill turns to the others in the room and shouts, "We gotta get out of here! We gotta get out of here! Get her out! Get them out of here!" The man growled in pain, the Extremis getting super hot. The light shines through his opened mouth and eyes, and he roars pain before exploding, cutting the camera out.
Dipper, taking in what he just found out, stares at the screen, "A bomb is not a bomb when it's a misfire. The stuff doesn't always work. Right, pal?" Mabel looks at Dipper, her expression uncomfortable at what she just learned, "It's faulty, but you found a buyer, didn't you?" Another camera from the room, showing the room in a terrible mess with some things on fire, "Sold it to the Mandarin. Got you, pal." He points at the screen, still staring at the screen of the destroyed room. Mabel shifts uncomfortably, holding her injured side.
Same Night: Hotel Room
Trixie sitting on a bed, her back against the headboard, explains to Pacifica what she knows about Bill, "What happened? Fun fact. Before he built rockets for the Nazis, the idealistic Wernher von Braun dreamed of space travel. He stargazed." She chuckles softly,
Sitting at the side of the bed, Pacifica, facing Trixie, listening intently, "Do you know what he said when the first V-2 hit London? 'The rocket performed perfectly. It just landed on the wrong planet.' See, we all begin wide-eyed. Pure science. And then the ego steps into the obsession. And you look up. You're a long way from shore."
Pacifica tries to reassure Trixie, "You can't be too hard on yourself, Trixie. I mean, you gave your research to a think tank."
Trixie tells Pacifica, "Yeah, but Bill built that think tank on military contracts."
Pacifica scoffs a chuckle and tells Trixie, "That's exactly what we used to do. So, don't judge yourself."
Trixie takes a second, looking at Pacifica, "Thank you, Pacifica. I really appreciate that." As Pacifica opens her mouth to say something, a knock on the door interrupts her. Pacifica stands up and opens the door, seeing a waiter with room service.
Pacifica greets the waiter politely, "Hi, good evening. Come on in." She stands to the side as the waiter rolls the table in with food.
The waiter greets back, "Good evening." Suddenly, he gets his neck snapped by Bill.
Pacifica gasps in alarm, and the waiter falls dead. She shouts to Trixie, "Trixie, run!" She goes running towards Trixie but gets grabbed by her left arm by Bill.
Pacifica, out of instinct, turns and punches him in the chest, but he still pushes her against the wall with unbelievable strength, making her gasp in pain and surprise. Pacifica goes to punch him again, but he grabs her by the neck and slams her back to the wall, holding her there.
Pacifica grabs Bill's arm as he greets her casually, "Hi, Pacifica." She tries kicking him in the gut with her right leg, but he blocks it and tells her, "Now, be nice."
He turns his head to Trixie, who walks over to them, "So, you want to tell me why you were at Dipper's mansion last night?"
Trixie tells Bill, "I'm trying to fix this thing. I didn't know you and the master were going to blow the place up."
Bill looks up, "Oh, I see. So, you were trying to save Dipper when he threatened us?"
Trixie tells Bill almost desperately, "I've told you, Bill, we can use him and Mabel."
Pacifica groans as she continues to struggle, glaring at both of them. She tries to jab Bill in the neck, but he moves his head away, getting annoyed, "Pacifica. Pacifica. Pacifica."
Trixie tells Bill, "Look, if we want to launch a product next year, I need both the Pines. He just lacked a decent incentive. Now, he has one." They both look at Pacifica.
Same Night
Inside: Wendy's House
A light shone through a dark hallway as Candy walked out of Wendy's room after she put Phillip to bed. She walked downstairs to the living room and saw Wendy lying on her couch. Candy says as she walks towards the couch, "Hey. You better be awake over there."
Wendy lifted her head up from the couch and looked at Candy. She sat right up and rubbed her eyes, "Can't even remember when was the last time I slept well."
Candy walked over to her, "Despite taking care of a child, both of us can't sleep. I guess this is how being a parent feels like, I suppose. Can't imagine what Dipper and Pacifica had to go through with Phillip." She then sat down next to Wendy and stared at the black TV screen, which barely reflected the two of them. But it wasn't the TV that Wendy was looking at. The frame of a picture hanging on the wall above the TV showed her family, specifically her father, her mother, and her brothers, "I can tell something's wrong. You look like you got something up your ass that you can't take out."
Wendy's smile slowly grew, "In the heat of the moment, sometimes you don't think about anything other than doing what you're supposed to do. But now, all I can do is think about my family."
Candy points at the picture of Wendy's family, "Is that your family right there?"
Wendy takes a second to answer her as she looks at the picture, "Yeah... yeah, that is my family."
Candy asked, "Where is your family now? Your parents and your brothers?" She noticed that Wendy's expression only grew sadder.
Wendy answered, looking down at the floor, "They... they're gone." Wendy rubbed her arms as tears formed in her eyes, "They died in a car accident when I was away in college."
Candy looked at her, sad and in shock at what she was hearing, "Wendy. I'm so sorry that happened."
Wendy's breaths became shaky as her eyes glimmered with tears, "It was hard to get through that darkness. But after losing my family... I really felt like I would be alone forever. That is when I met Dipper and the rest of you guys. When Dipper took me in as one of his own and... I..." Candy grabbed Wendy's hand. Wendy looks over at her as she gives her a warm smile with tears coming down her face, "I feel like I didn't belong with you all... I didn't want to tell him before, not only because I was afraid of how he was going to react but because I was afraid of losing him, too. I really, really valued our friendship. I didn't want to lose him. But now... I really have nothing to lose... except you guys." Candy nodded, taking a deep breath to hold back her tears, "You and the others are the only people I care about. My family is gone. I don't want to lose my friends, too."
Candy saw that Wendy could not hold back her tears. She pulled her close to her and hugged her as Wendy sobbed quietly, "Don't worry. You will never lose us."
Outside: Wendy's House
Somewhere outside, a woman was watching Wendy and Candy embrace each other through the window. She pulls out her gun from her pocket and aims it toward the window.
