Hello once more, my ever lovely peeps!
So here we go once more and we'll be jumping right into it, spiking over the conversation between the newly minted Maiden and her family, simply because i believe everyone wants to just jump right into the viewing. And so we shall!
But first, we need some reactions and learn just WHAT Xero's mother did to save him. But iv'e decide to hold off and tell you all what she did, AFTER the Arc is over, but we will see the results of her work. But naturally we've got to get some reactions to how some are handling Xero's warning of the dark future that is to come. But i'll keep it to just Ozpin's group, with Cinder and her little possy being sour over the Servants showing just how weak they are, compared to them.
Anyway, i for one, am super excited to start the viewing and i can hardly wait.
So i will save the reactions and what his mother, Lilth did to save him. It DOES have something to do with the Wendigo but that is all i will say. This is the first chapter of the "Until Dawn" Arc, so as always i own nothing but my OC.
So please read, review and "What the fuc-BOOM"
Chapter 9: O'Death And Welcome To Blackwood Mountain
"What do you mean 'you don't know?'"
Ironwood growled,"We have to do something! Not only do the Avengers have a power beyond our ability to even understand, they have TWO Maidens on their side now! One of them is even one of those 'masters', one of which can get the staff anytime she wants! We can't let her just roam free!"
"Is that what you're worried about?"
Qrow asked with a glare,"And here i thought you wanted to do the smart thing and make peace with the Avengers, not piss them off? What's with the 180?"
"That was before Fria's death and when the power should have gone to Winter, for whatever reason, Fria decided Stark should have. The balance of power has shifted dramatically with the lose of both Fall, Summer and now Winter. The Spring Maiden has gone off to gods knows where for the past decades and despite all our power, we are hopeless outmatched regardless of our own advanced tech. A Maiden alone can easily take on a trained team of huntsman. But a Maiden with even MORE magical power, advanced tech and very powerful allies is basically unbeatable. That's not even counting the other Magus out, his two new students and this Church that he's allied himself with. That's not even including the fact it's became apparent that Summer Maiden powers found it's way to that Ackerman woman. It makes it worse if what those two said with any chance of it being true, then we need EVERY advantage we can get, that includes the Maidens most of all. Not only to keep them from falling into HER hands, but to help protect the secrets of the Maidens themselves. If for whatever reason, things go south and war breaks out, we won't have to worry about the Grimm wiping us out, the Avengers will do it for them!"
Even if he shouted, Ironwood was able to keep his voice low enough so only Ozpin's inner circle can hear it.
"Yeah, they will, if any of you're soulless machines decide to attack first Irondick. In case you forgot, i met the kid and despite only meeting him once, i can tell you this: You fuck with him and he WILL destroy, not just you but everything you hold dear. I'll admit, i did find it a little disturbing to see that look in his eye, the one with how he is a man on a mission. The type of mission that he will complete at all costs, no matter what it takes, all the while he's barely hanging onto what little sanity he has left."
Qrow laughed darkly, as he took a very long swing of his flask. Wiping his lips, he looked at Ironwood,"Now i see why. Trying to stop the dead from waking up and causing the world to end, is one hell of mission, all the while trying to help everyone he can. So if it's all the same to you Oz, i'm going to help the kid ensure that never happens. Even if that means me just staying the fuck out of his way."
"I agree."
Summer said suddenly, making everyone look at her, as she wrapped her arms around herself but looked determined, never the less,"It's just like he said. We...we cannot afford NOT to listen to his warning. Regardless if it's true or not, if they're is so much as the tiniest sliver of truth, then we HAVE to help him, no matter what. I don't want my girls having to face the hell a war would bring upon them. I'm sure Tai would agree as well and even if she is a selfish, egotistical, self serving bitch i have no doubt Raven would help. If only to ensure a new war doesn't break out and disrupt her."
"You're seriously buying that shit?"
Harriet asked, still pissed at nearly being choked to death by miss dark and broody,"There's no way any of that is true. I'll admit, magic barely makes any sense to me but there IS proof of it, some semblance of truth but this? There is no real proof of it, other then his world and more importantly, why now? Earth's been around for a long time right, so why didn't it happen sooner?"
"I don't know Hare, what if he is right?"
Marrow said with a worried look,"We already have to deal with Grimm, White Fang and Salem's people. I know i'm new but i don't believe we can deal with new enemies, be they from Earth or a possible army of undead monsters. Monsters that i might add, have unique and magical power too boot as well. I understand you're worry general but if we can at least establish a working relationship with the US, SHEILD or better yet, the Avengers we wouldn't need to worry about war, right? Wouldn't that be the best course of action?"
The dog Faunus personal thought he made a valid and logical argument, allowing cooler heads to prevail. However Ironwood sighing dashed his hopes.
"You make a valid argument specialist Amin, but that doesn't change one fact: Mazoku is a man on the edge and it's not WE that i fear pissing him off. It's everyone else within Atlas and if no WHEN they do, it'll mean war."
The Ace Ops couldn't stop themselves from flinching at the truth, the people of Atlas were a proud people.
Proud and very petty.
None of the Ace Ops were blind to Atlas's many problems, both within and out, Mantle too. It was many of the reasons why those not from Atlas treated them with frosty politeness or barely restrained hostilely. Everyone knew it but still believed that Atlas, that General Ironwood was in the right and no matter how bad it might sound, what they did was for the greater good. Whether they liked it or not, Atlas helped protect Remnant from not just the Grimm but humans, Faunus and if things did go south, then Earth too. It was all for the greater good of Remnant itself now.
Not for selfish ideals, goals or greed.
The proof of it?
Mantle.
Atlas, the enovaters of tomorrow and city within the clouds had risen to the top...by letting their own people suffer down below. Atlas didn't need to worry, as they use both humans AND Faunus down in Mantle as buffers for the Grimm. Who cares what happens to them, Mantle is old news.
Nobody would care if they died off.
That's what many believed, regardless if the good general would say, he couldn't do anything otherwise, cause he had to look at the bigger picture.
Ironwood knew the true history of their world, the Ace Ops knew it too and understood why somethings had to be done. Good or evil, what they did, protected the people from the evil no one even knew about. It was now their duty, as they knew the truth and were ready to do what was needed to make sure Remnant as a whole was safe from that said evil.
Sadly no one else really understood that and despite that, Atlas has it's own wild cards just like any other kingdom. One of them being-"You mean CA making a move on Mazoku.
"But why would Mr. Mazoku want to wage war on us if it's just one group that is responsible?"
Penny asked, seeing no logic in the possible reasoning to wage war,"Wouldn't it be easier to just let the Atlas council deal out punishment, then to create a international incident that could lead to a war that has no real reason to be waged. As long as the guilty party is punished, then there shouldn't be any problem, right?"
"Because girly, it's never that simple."
Qrow took a swing of his flask, trying to drown the incoming stress this whole thing will not doubt cause,"A person is smart. People though? Their complete idiots and somehow, those in power for the most part are even stupider then the most people since they gained more power and almost always want to look good doing anything. Those in power typically won't even considered giving it up willingly and will do anything to keep said power. Even if it's just taking a piss, they want those votes to stay in power. Taking down a foreign superpower is a good way to gain votes, especially one that's proven to be very hostile if provoked. Plus, that kid is holding something back. "
Penny titled her head,"He is? Why would he?"
"Perhaps there is more to this 'Dead War' then he's letting on."
Her father said, rubbing her bearded chin in thought,"It's possible these Dark Purveyors might have helped from THIS side. Why anyone would help them is beyond me but trying to understand the mind of a madman is one thing i hope to never understand, least i go mad myself. There are a number of things we still don't know and honestly, magic is well beyond my arena of expertise. I'm sorry general but i don't believe it's a good idea for us to get directly involved in this, simply because we don't truly understand what we're dealing with. We could in fact make the situation worse and set us down an even darker course."
"Indeed. Magic is wildly unpredictable, it defies all logic of the natural world, thus it would be wise for us to tread with extreme caution general."
Vine said, closing his eyes and nodding his head.
Running a hand down his bread, Leo looked at the headmaster of Beacon,"I do believe specialist Vine is right on this on Oz. We really shouldn't get involved in something we really don't understand, unless you of course, have something that can prove otherwise."
Ozpin sighed deeply, as he idly played with his cane for a couple of minutes, before speaking.
"No. I do not have anything that can prove or disprove it. Mr-LORD Mazoku's magic is well beyond the scope of what my own was like and it's fundamental works much more different then what i am aware of. I do however believe that Salem might try to somehow gain control over this power or somehow side with the Six if given the chance, if they do indeed seek the destruction of life. That alone would spell disaster and we cannot afford to cause any trouble. Or worse, the Six can make the Grimm stronger and make it even more dangerous then ever before. Qrow, Summer i do believe it's best you do whatever Mr. Mazoku needs, to ensure that this 'dark future' does not come to pass. Even if that means simply staying out of his way or at worse, fending off anyone else that would seek to cause trouble. Be it from Salem's thralls or simple common criminals, we cannot allow this to happen."
Member of his inner circle had paled a the thought of the Six not only raising the dead but making the Grimm stronger. Grimm were dangerous and annoying enough as it was, if the Grimm grew stronger, it could spell the end for the kingdoms or quite possible, all of Remnant itself.
If they were pushed hard enough.
Worst-case scenario, the Six willingly join Salem and not only use their magic to enhance her own but could enhance her Grimm and possible use an unknown spell to find the Maidens or even worse, find a way into the vaults.
WITHOUT the Maidens.
"Yes, well i for one believe it is in our best interest to leave that young man be. Despite all that we have seen, i do believe he won't attack. At least, not without provocation and anyone who is foolish enough to do so, won't get the chance to do it a second time."
Port said, his fingers smoothing out his trademark mustache, while his fellow teacher and partner in crime nodded,"Indeed. Ozpin, i had a bit of time to review some of Earth's history, namely their reaction towards magical beings or just magic in general and it isn't good. In fact, i can say for a fact our young lord has ever right to act worse then general Ironwood, as every time magic is so much as mentioned or even suspected to use the magical arts they are often attacked quite violently. It doesn't matter if the suspect is a woman, man, child, elder or even a baby, if they believed you have magic...well, honestly it's a times like this, i wonder if humanity does deserved to be wiped out by the Grimm."
"It's that bad?"
Glynda asked, shock clear on her face. The history professor merely closed his eyes and breathed out a heavy sigh.
"Worse i'm afraid and to be honest, it's quite remarkable what Lord Mazoku is doing, even though i'm sure he's aware that there are those that will never accept magic as anything BUT some foul thing. The type of foul thing that needs to be destroyed at all costs, regardless if it can be used for good, almost to the point where i believe some people hate magic more then the Grimm themselves."
"Does magic really have such a dubious reputation?"
Clover couldn't help but ask, unable to believe what he was hearing. The Grimm were one thing, it's only natural to hate them but magic, while unpredictable and able to make most security measures useless, the potential it had to do great things for the people as a whole was particle limitless.
As well it's potential to do harm.
"It doesn't necessarily have to be mistrust that pushes them to act. Just an unknown power that cannot be bested, scares them enough to destroy the source of it, at any costs. All you need to do is look at how we Faunus were treated by humans when we first made contact."
The group went silent at Leo's bitter words, already knowing how some hate is just so rooted deeply, it prevents cooler minds from prevailing.
Especially in the face of the unknown. Magic was a power that, while it wasn't wildly known, it's potential was known and it frightened many. Understandable afraid but fear has more often then naught, turned to hate.
And hate can kill.
"True enough, so let us ensure history does not repeat itself, yes? We have a unique opportunity before us and i suggest we do not waste it."
Doctor Oobleck said wisely, as everyone decide it was for the best to just wait and see what would happen for the moment. They haven't even began to learn, so they would wait and see what the future held for them.
And learn from Xero's past.
"Good intentions or not, you cannot deny that man is a criminal, one capable of besting one of our best soldiers general. He can't be trusted and is a clear threat to Atlas sir."
Ironwood sighed, Winter might have a very good point but this was a new world they were in. Mazoku was not the kind of enemy they wanted and at best, they could steer him towards the REAL enemies of humanity. Dangerous as he was, he was indeed valuable and could easily turn the tide of their shadow war. That and if this 'Dead War' was indeed a real thing, then it be in EVERYONE'S best interest, he'd stop it before it ever came to pass.
Even if the entire thing sacred him more then Salem, he had to remain strong and do what was best for everyone, if humanity is to survive. Now he just had to convince his right hand to do the same...and see if she couldn't work her way into the young lord's confidence. She gad to, the fate of Remnant itself rested on her mission succeeding.
"Be that as i may Winter, even if we wanted to, we can't touch him. He's from a foreign country, one that is in a completely different world and we have no grounds to arrest him. Not to mention he is for all intents and purposes, a hero to his world. Winter, as much as i know you're going to hate this, i need you to get close to him, him and his sister. We can't do anything to brash and if nothing else, we need to at least ensure the Winter Maiden doesn't turn on us or worse, Salem's agents get her. If nothing else, we might be able to build an alliance between Atlas and the Avengers."
Winter looked like she was sucking on a lemon and was being told she had to say that Jacques was the greatest father in the world.
"I...yes sir."
He was right, of course the general was but that didn't mean Winter had to like it.
"This is going to be my toughest mission yet."
"Hehehehehehehe."
Elsewhere Adenela giggled her usual creepy giggling that was barely a step away from sounding like a psycho murderer's laughter, making Xero's apprentices to be to frown at her. Well Irina frowned, Xenovia however scowled,"You find something funny lady Adenela?"
The short woman just giggled for a few more seconds, before smiling a creepy grin,"Oh i-it's just funny i-i think. You t-two striving to be Xero's a-apprentices and yet you h-have no real world experience d-do you?"
"That may be true but i still don't understand, what's so funny?"
"What's funny, i-is i wonder if you'll m-make the cut and l-learn what he has to t-teach you. Will you thrive o-or will you break down, crying like a spanked baby. Hehehehehehehe."
The woman went back to giggling her heart out, making the blue haired girl growl, mentally weighing the pro's and con's of drawing her blade on the powerful necromancer. She had half the mind to show the woman just "how she make the cut" by stomping the ever living shit out of her!
"Xen don't!"
Irina whispered, easily reading the blue haired girl's intention as she got up reaching for something under her cloak,"Don't do it. It won't end well."
Xenovia growled but backed down, knowing full well, despite wielding a fragment of Excalibur itself, the girl, WOMAN, was far stronger then her. Even if her magic had an advantage over her's, Adenela did not live to be over three hundred years old by being stupid and impulsive. The woman's magic had stunted her growth, forever trapped in the body of a thirteen year old but had also given her eternal youth.
She was more then just a pretty(And creepy) face after all.
"Girls, please do not cause trouble. Once lord Mazoku returns, i do believe we'll start the viewing, so please be patient till then."
It was an order, despite how it was worded. The two Magus knew that, while the oldest of them just laughed her heart out, wondering if the two would really thrive under Xero or...would they break?
Guess there was only one way to find out.
Then again, Spider Man had trained under Lord Mazoku for months and while that may not seem a long time, it was easy to see how far the newbie hero came from his first days of super heroing. If he could take a non-magic person and turn him into that, then what could he do with two powerful but moldable Magus in a year's time?
"What did i tell you?"
"I-i'm sorry ma'm, i-"
"Do NOTHING to draw Mazoku or his allies ire towards us or i will personal present you're head to him."
Cinder's eyes glowed yellow, the Maidens power threatening to come out to play but she keep it down, if only barely as she glared at the poor excuse of a thief in front of her,"You almost blew our cover by that one stunt ALONE and you will NOT do it again. You will not THINK of doing ANYTHING towards them. Don't look at them, don't think of them, don't make eye contact, don't cruse, don't even BREATH in their general direction Emerald. Is. That. CLEAR?"
The girl nodded, too scared of his mistress, cradling her now frostbitten arm which had became an ugly shade of red and purple. The Caster didn't even bother to clear up the damage or ice, letting the hunters figure it out on their own. The green haired girl gritted her teeth, not in pain but rage as she had plenty of both, mentally blaming the Mazoku and his "ice queen bitch" for her own foolish mistakes. If Cinder could hear her thoughts, she would have made sure to blame Emerald for her own stupid mistakes, rather then blame someone who was, somehow, able to see clearly through her semblance.
If someone did, either they were lucky or Emerald was either getting arrogant as time went on or it was pure laziness that caused her to be caught. Either one was just as bad and it could end in disaster if she kept it up. But Emerald really didn't care about HOW he and the Caster saw through her semblance, all she cared about right now, was getting payback.
"You'll pay for this Mazoku! You and that snow haired bitch!"
Emerald swore she get revenge, she didn't even care about the damn rosary now. All she wanted was to see Mr. richy rich brought low and make him fill him up with some pain, see how he'd like that.
Cinder then glared at Mercury, who winced but said nothing as he rubbed his bruised cheek and nursed his bruised pride,"And you. The ONLY reason why you're getting off easy, is because you did what any teammate would do. But keep in mind, if you try ANYTHING else, i won't pull you out. Understood?"
He only nodded, feeling a shiver run up his spine.
"One punch..."
That's all it took to send his aura deep in the red. Ice fist or not, Mercury knew his aura shouldn't have dropped like a rock unless it was a very, very, VERY strong ice fist. If that white haired Schnee look alike hit him any harder, he knew he'd be dead. A fact that scared him shitless and made him very angry as well.
"What the fuck?! I'm one of the strongest bastard's this side of Mistral, how the hell did she do that?!"
Magic.
It had to be their fucking bullshit magic of theirs and it much stronger then Amber's. The Fall Maiden got a few good hits on him but it didn't basically shatter his aura like thin glass. Not even Cinder, Maiden power or not, could pull off a feat like that without even looking! But it didn't matter, he helped bring her down and he'd gladly do the same to tattoo face. But first things first, he needed to know,"What are we going to do about the...you know what?"
Cinder bared her teeth in a wordless growl, that was a good question. Mazoku now had, not one but TWO Maidens in his roster of allies and one of them those 'masters' too boot! That didn't just complicate things, it made it a complete fucking disaster! Cinder could feel the promise of power slip through her fingers more and more. This couldn't stand, something had to change and no matter how much it pained her to do so, her best bet was to attack the weaker of the two Maidens.
"I don't care how supposedly 'strong' Ackerman is, she is only human."
A human without aura or even a mech-shift weapon, thus making her much easier prey then the sister. Maidens were strong but just like Amber, they weren't impossible to defeat. But that didn't mean it would be easy though. It's become quite clear that aura or not, those "Servants" of his can cause quite a bit of damage to a hunter, even if by unconventional means. True, choking a Hunter is possible and while nobody has ever tried for obvious reasons, Cinder knew that Harriet woman was no push over, especially when it came to leg power, yet watching that aura infused kick doing nothing to the dark Saber, it was...intriguing.
"That power..."
That was the kind of power Cinder wanted. The power to be feared, to be respected and no matter what happens, no matter what anyone threw at you, they could not touch you or hurt you. The false Maiden knew it was foolish to try the Grimm parasite on her, as that was not a display of magic but of pure, unaltered, brute strength hidden within those slim arms of hers.
She wanted that.
Really, really bad.
Trying to sway the woman to her side via seduction was out of the question, as the woman was, much to Cinder' annoyance, is even MORE beautiful then herself. That much was clear and seeing as she called Mazoku her 'queen' it was clear where her loyalty lies. No matter how much she hated waiting, she will have to play this one very close to the chest and wait for her prefect shot.
Cause she will only get ONE shot at this. If she missed, she would be dead. Cinder's only hope would be either kidnapping one of his loved ones, steal the Maiden's power or hope this 'viewing' will reveal SOMETHING that will help her fight against the teen.
"It doesn't matter how strong someone is, there's always a weakness."
But what is it?
The most obvious way to go about it, would be to threaten and kidnap someone he cares for but many of his friends were either too powerful, well connected or just almost always surrounded by people with power. Her best bet was to stay a ghost and lie in wait for the prefect time to strike.
"But what of this 'dead war' he mentioned?"
Was it real, was it really coming or was it just some elaborate hoax meant to but the boy time? The look in his eye and body language said it was very real and he was very desperate to stop it. Then there was Salem and what she would decide over the matter. Even if Cinder decide to take the risk, Salem might not. Time meant nothing to her and she could afford to wait.
Cinder however could not.
She needed to ensure Salem would allow her to steal the Maiden power from both Stark and Ackerman. She just needed a little time to create a plan of attack and execute said plan.
She just needed time!
"So, what's the plan boss?"
Vernal had no idea what to think, when everything was suppose to be so simple. A simple watch and scout mission, nothing more, nothing less. This whole new world could make or break the tribe, depending how they plan it and the response to their actions.
In all honesty, things weren't looking good.
This world, Earth had a VERY lethal protector and he was not above being the most brutal man alive to his enemies and an angel to those he saved. While Vernal would have scoffed at some wannabe hero, beliving those that couldn't protect themselves had it coming and the so called 'hero' was wasting his time, they quickly learned the Grimm Reaper was anything BUT a wannabe.
For one thing he didn't just kill, Mazoku practical painted the walls with the blood of his enemies, left body parts behind and just general made it a blood bath that the Grimm be proud of. All the while he remained pretty much anonymous, moving like a ghost throughout the entire world with little resistance. By his own actions, that brat should be considered a criminal and labeled a psychopath.
But because he only targeted other criminals and made a show of revealing their deeds to the world, no one in power dared try to arrest him.
A fact that made those who preached of equality and justice for all hypocritical in her mind. But it also made the leader of the Avengers very dangerous as well, as it was clear to everyone he would kill if he felt it was warranted and wouldn't hesitate for a second to do so.
Even if she wouldn't admit it, if the tribe pissed him off badly enough, he could more then likely bring the world down on their heads and it be the end for the Branwen tribe. What's worse, was the damn brat looked like a male, purple eyed version of Raven herself.
But none of that mattered as they were suddenly dragged into some damn movie screening of the boys life and were about to see his past. A past that had him saving the world not once, not twice but three times and what's more, there's ANOTHER apocalyptic event coming and coming right fucking quick too, if he was to be believed.
Just what kind of fucking freak show did she end up in?
Raven closed her eyes, seemly in a trance for a couple of minutes, before they snapped open,"For now: Do nothing. We came here to watch and learn, that's exactly what we're going to do. If that BB girl and this Curator want to give us all answers, then i see no reason to stop them, do you?"
"None at all."
Yep, she could get behind that plan.
"And those from the Church? What about them, we could take-"
Raven's deathly glare shut up the fool that spoke up, Vernal already knew what their orders would be. Stand by, make sure Xero ensures the world doesn't end and in no way are they to do anything to draw the Avengers attention. It was a pain but that was the price for survival.
It was best to avoid unnecessary battles.
Just then Xero and coup came back, with Gudako now resting in Ozy's arms bridal style and Nightingale trailing behind them. The powerful Rider was not happy to see his mistress/wife suddenly dropped like a rock with some hack power up. Something told the King of Kings that power would bring trouble and he was not a happy camper about it.
But he knew it would be stupid to try to remove, if the healing Berserker's diagnosis was to be believed. For all her faults, the woman knew what she was doing when it came to healing the body. Whatever this power was, it had settled down and was merging with her own magic, so the mighty Rider would have to keep an eye on her for a while, just to make sure their were no other hidden surprises waiting for them.
And it was Xero's way of messing with Gudako for always sneaking into his bed, back when they where still working for Chaldea.
"Is she-"
"She's fine, just sore and exhausted."
The Berserker said, not wanting to draw anymore attention to her commander's wife,"Lady Stark is just experiencing a bout of accidental magic. It's complete normal for someone that is about to go through their magical maturity. It happens to all Magus when they come of age, at age seventeen."
"Hmmm, playing off her gaining the Maiden's power, by covering it as a sign of her magic maturing? Well played Lord Mazoku, well played indeed."
Ozpin had to give them credit, it was a well thought out lie and one no one can call them out, simply because they knew nothing of what is normal and what isn't. The headmaster had to give the young man credit, he certainly knew how to sell the deal, even if it was told by that pink haired woman. If nothing else, no one wanted to confront her on it, as something about her just told you: Try it and you're face will be smashed in.
Call it a gut feeling but Ozpin believed that to be true.
"So, i take it everyone is ready?"
Came the chipper voice of BB, making Xero look up at the ceiling,"Yeah, we're ready."
He said, after settling into Lobo's stomach, to prevent the Avenger from getting to agitated, while Gudako has been settled into Ozy's lap.,,,,,as far away as humanly possible from Cinder and her little group.
Ten guesses why.
However a certain duchess quickly claimed his lap, while sticking her tongue out childishly at some of the scowling Servants, at the Catser's quick speed in taking the seat that was his lap. The master shook his head, still a little amazed at how the woman on his lap was once so distant and cold when they first met, had turned into the mischievous and playful woman resting on his lap.
"I swear, i spoil you too much."
"Spoiling would imply i didn't earn my reward for taking care of that annoying rat that was scurrying around my dear husband and it isn't spoiling, it's pampering. Now pamper me, you're princess demands it."
Her iron doll, merely just gave him a look that said go with it.
Well some things it seemed, never changed.
The two made it a point to ignore the subtle, hateful glare coming from Emerald, still sour at how easily the snow princess easily bested her, in front of Cinder no less. Emerald knew the white haired woman's type, the type that never had to scarp everything together just to get a scrap of food, never knew what it was like to go hungry most nights.
The fact she looked and acted a lot like an older version of both Schnee sisters only served to piss her off even more. Especially when she called her "Rat", cause that's what many called her years ago. But there was nothing she could do at the moment and was forced to hold her tongue.
"It doesn't matter, once Cinder gets the Maiden's powers, she'll pay for everything."
"Great! Get strapped in, cause this'll be one WILD ride. Due note, while i will not be showing my Senpai's ENTIRE cause that take far too long, so i will be showing you key periods in time that made him what he is today, the events that shaped him. They will be, for a lack of a better word, broken down into Arc's. The first one will take place, a month before Senpai met his dear old daddy here. Think of it as a show case of what he can do WITHOUT magic and we shall start with the Arc i like to call 'The Until Dawn' Arc So, here. We. Go."
The lights dimmed down, as the screen turned on black, slowly powering up.
The screen dimmed down, as an image of a butterfly appeared, with it's wings veins appeared to be glowing in an eye catching manner. Then, words appeared on the screen. It read the following:
The Butterfly Effect
"A Tiny Butterfly Flapping It's Wings Today, May Cause A Devastating Hurricane Weeks From Now."
The screen then moved along the flashing lines of the butterfly's wings, as new words appeared, ones that would shock everyone.
"To RISE above MONSTERS, we have to we have to ABANDON our HUMANITY."
~Armin Arlet, 21-10-2032
19 years since Judgement Day
"Armin?"
Eren looked at his childhood friend in shock, as the blonde blinked,"I-i didn't say that."
"Look at the date. That's nearly twenty years into the future."
Annie pointed out, as everyone focused on the date and no one could really say anything, still trying and failing to wrap their minds around it. To Armin, while he knew he was the logical type, he understood that is something he'd say. Was this only more proof of what was to come or was it just luck?
"Abandon you're humanity huh? Is that what you did to survive husband of mine? Did you willingly do it or was it forced?"
Berserker Morgan idly wonder, the words sounding very familiar to her. How much did she abandon to protect her kingdom?
"Judgement day? Really?
She-hulk voice was full of amusement, as she quirked an eyebrow towards her young leader, as he shrugged,"Hey, if it fits, it fits. Do you see a problem with it?"
"Nope."
"Sigh, That is a dark but very true statement but it doesn't always work."
Ozpin should know, he's done it before in the past in an attempt to stop Salem but it only ended up with his allies either dead or betraying him. While that may work in the short run, the long run it won't. Even if one has the will to do what needs to be done, it doesn't change anything if you're enemy is immortal.
The screen slowly lite up as pure white snow drifted down word in a clamming manner. Then without warning, a distant scream, unable to be identified as as male or female, with the words:
UNTIL DAWN
Appearing like how a horror movie title appears.
"Oh boy, that scared me."
Ruby breathed out a frighten breath, as she felt her heart racing as she gripped her chest. She had a feeling she'd be hiding in her cloak before the first Arc was over and honestly, she wasn't the only one of the children feeling scared. As Illya had already taken advantage of her privileges as Xero's "Daughter" via his marriage to her mama and was now clinging to his side for comfort, causing Xero to rub her head, while wrapping his free arm around her.
"Honestly Illya, it's just the intro and you're already scared? Where's the courage you showed during the invasion?"
Ruby the wand spoke to her wielder, making the red eyed child glare at her. Or try to, as it looked like a puppy glaring. If anyone found it odd to see a wand speaking, they either didn't say anything or were too shocked to say something. Regardless, looks like they were learning.
"Heh, kinda reminds me of our old movie nights when we we're younger."
Armin mused, as Eren and Mikasa smiled at old memoires. Back then when things were so much easier, simpler and the world was a much brighter place. For them at least.
"Hey, is that music?"
Roman asked, hearing a soft but sinister melody play, as the background changed to show several things.
"O'death
O'death
Won't you spare me over till another year?
But what is this, that I can't see
With ice cold hands taking hold of me
When God is gone and the devil takes hold
Who will have mercy on my soul?
O'death, o'death
Consider my age
Please don't take me at this stage
O'death
O'death
Won't you spare me over till another year?
Oh I am death
And non can tell
If I open the door to heaven or hell
No wealth, no land
No silver, nor gold
Nothing satisfies me but your soul
I'm death, I come to take the soul
Leave the body and leave it cold
O'death
O'death
Won't you spare me over till another year?"
As the song played, several screen shots were shown, viewing an abandoned asylum that was filled with destroyed items, a snowy mountain and the insides of an old mining shaft that has clearly seen better days, all looking like it was ready to come down. Then the screen changed again, showing more words:
Chapter 1:
Welcome To Blackwood Mountain
"Well that wasn't ominous at all."
Sun said, feeling a chill run down his spine,"It's like the opening to one of those old creepy horror movies."
"It certainly does have an A rank horror movie vibe to it, that's for sure."
Rhodey said, feeling the same chill. That song...something about it had shook him to the core and his instincts, wore forged by the air force had told him there was more to this song, then it just being a normal song.
The screen change again, to show a forest covered in snow and a glowing figure in the distance, steadily becoming more and more clearer, as the rumpice thumping of horse hooves echoed. It grew and grew, as the loud "thump" grew closer and closer along with the notice sound of a horse huffing.
As it grew, so did the light that seemly came from the being, grew more and more.
"What is that? You got some sort of lamp or something?"
Bruce asked, unable to completely make out the figure that was fast approaching from the thick, white forest.
"Eh, not quite."
Xero spoke, a little grin playing his lips. The second they saw what was 'lightening' the way for him, would surely freak everyone(Save for his Servants of course) and Gudako would probably kick him from keeping such a secret from her, even if it was never intentional. It just never came up. This was something he got from his Avenger self forming a contract with him and how he gained their new title:
The Horseman, coined from the bible legend of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
The thumping grew louder and louder, until-
"WOOSH"
The screen focused on Xero now...riding a horse.
"PSF!"
"oh my...WHAT IS THAT?!"
But this horse wasn't a normal one though, it had a fiery glow to it because it was indeed on FIRE! Indeed, the horse looked like it came straight from the underworld. It's skull was viable to all, having fire seemly stream out of it's eyes and nostrils as it breathed out. It's throat looked like it was being held together by fire alone, while it's body, from it's neck down to it's ankles, looked like it had been burned badly, leaving no hair on it's stomach. To top it call off, it's ankles, feet and even tail were made completely out of fire and yet, acted as if it was completely normal to have.
"Holy shit, is that thing even still alive?! How is it moving?!"
Qrow did an amazing spit take, rubbing his eyes trying and failing to understand what he was seeing. Everyone else weren't doing any better, as Gudako gave her dear oni-chan a tired glare,"Oni-chan..."
She growled or tried to growl, as it sounded like a kitten hissing at him,"I thought we told each other EVERYTHING. Why didn't you tell me, you had an undead horse. And how did you even get him?"
"Avenger Xero and HE was a gift."
"A gift?"
Ishtar asked, eyebrow quirked,"That looks like something my sister would give as a gift."
Xero nodded towards the Lancer,"She did. His name is Abraxas and he is in fact a familiar of mine. He original belonged to Avenger Xero and before he vanished, he gave me the reins to Abraxas so i could-oh stop that Lobo. There's no need to get jelly."
The master lightly wacked the large wolf's snot, as the Avenger made the wolf noise equivalent to a grumble. His rider rubbed the large Avenger by his neck in a smoothing manner.
Hange just squealed, grinning wildly at the sight of the undead horse shaking in her seat with pure glee, making Levi slap the back of her head to shut her up, his ears ringing from four eyes damn squealing.
"While that is something to see, if you don't mind me asking Xero but what did BB mean you don't have magic right now?"
Erwin of course, asked the big question, as everyone looked towards Xero, who was rubbing the wolf's head.
"Yes, well at the moment in time my magic was sealed off for approximately twenty four hours, from six am to six am. Berserker had discovered my magic circuits had been, for a lack of a better word, completely overworked. For years iv'e basically been running a 120 per second, with little sleep as humanly possible, while iv'e been pushing both my body, mind and magic to the absolute max 24/7. That's not included all the near death experiences iv'e had to deal with. As one can image, that isn't exactly healthy for you and as a result, my magic circuits couldn't handle it and we needed to do something, least they suddenly burst from over use like a balloon near a porcupine."
"Sealing the commander's magic was our safest bet and despite some...bumps along the way, it all worked out."
Said healing Berserker said, frowning a little at how trouble just seemed to find her commander at the worst possible times.
"Look, the point is he's my familiar and even though he's 'dead' i can summon him whenever i want, regardless if i have magic or not, so let's just get back to the viewing yeah? All you're questions will be answered, so long as you play attention."
Everyone quite down, watching as the screen started playing again.
"Today is the one year anniversary of the dreadful tragedy that took place on Mount Washington, sheriff Annie Cline who is in charge of the investigation."
Xero on his mount sighed, as he wiped out the snow clouding his goggles. They were a simple pair of winter goggles that covered his eyes with a red scarf wrapped around his neck and a black winter fur hat. He wore a thick red winter overcoat and black furred trimmed gloves. He wore a simple par of black pants and was topped off by a pair of snow boots. The screen then zoomed to the side of Xero's head, showing a small triangle device on the right side of his temple as the icey winds bellowed his hair and hat ends around.. The small device played the live report into his ears, like he was wearing ear bubs even though he wasn't. The pure white device's only sign that it was working, was one blue line that glowed in the dark, bright enough to show it was working but not enough to draw attention to it, hidden by his long, thick hair and fuzzy hat.
"Oh, what's that?"
Ruby asked, looking at the device with interest, she'd never seen anything like it before.
"That little Rose, is a Focus, a device of my own creation. It is basically a augmented reality device that serves as a multipurpose sensory interface. This device is responsive to the user's gestures and voice, and displays a visual 3D interface visible only to the user, aiding in the operation of machinery and technology alike, as well as in communications. There's no interface, no machine or computer that it cannot hack into and if there is one, i haven't seen it yet. Because i never take it off and never have to open it, it's virtual unhackable given to the server it's connected too and NO ONE can hack THAT server. I modified it with my magic, so i can use just by thinking about it, like it was directly linked to my brain. It is an all purpose tool that can hack into pretty much anything i require and is prefect for me to store all the data i might need."
"Incredible!"
Pietro gasped in shock and awe,"To think you could create such a device and to make it so small, with so many uses, it truly is a work of art lord Mazoku. But might i ask, what server is it connected too?"
"The Moon Cell and before you ask, yes it is as it sounds. It's on our moon and no, i don't know how it came to be, all i know is that it helps protect the Earth from...less then desirable things and that's all you need to know. Also no, i will NOT be making more to be sold, i will not sell the design either and i will only make more for those i know i can trust not to abuse it, At the moment i haven't made anymore for anyone else. But if and more then likely when i do make more, they won't be connected to the Moon Cell for obvious reasons but they'll still be top notch communicator's. The main purpose of me being connected to the Moon Cell, is to give me an early warning when the Umbral Star returns to our world. Like my father, i know my...inventions can be used to do a lot of good or a great deal of evil. It's the twenty first century, everything is a digital playground and if you know where to look, you can get information on anyone or anything. If my Focus were to be stolen and or into the wrong hands, it can wreck untold havoc with little effort on their part. Besides, this is something i made for myself and i myself alone to use. Don't like it, then make you're own, if you can that is."
Many grumbled, but accepted his reasoning, even as some eyes widen in realization at what could easily be a massive breach in security. A device capable of hacking anything? The young man was right, if it fell into the wrong hands, that can easily bring catastrophe! Sweat was dropping down many heads, as they mentally raised the teen's threat level even higher but only one had a proud smile on their face.
"Goddamn it kiddo, are you trying to show up you're old man? Cause it certainly feels like it."
Tony asked with a smirk, as Xero merely shrugged,"Eh, not my fault you created someone smarter then you."
His father lightly wacked his son's arm, as Pepper looked a little worried,"Xero, if you're Focus does as you say, wouldn't people try to steal it?"
"They would but then again, everyone would want something i want or at the very least, SOMEONE would try. With this in mind, i took steps to ensure that doesn't and iv'e got it covered with a blood seal. Along with the fact just one in existence and being keyed to me, it rarely leaves my head if ever. Only when i bath does it leave but everywhere else, no."
"Still doesn't mean they won't try though."
Jean grumbled, already imaging more and more people coming after the boss, purely just for the Focus. Not that he could blame them, as that thing sounded like a prefect tool for any of them to have.
A certain bull Faunus was having those very thoughts but the threat of being cut off from the White Fang and no support from the brothers, he'd knew he had to tread careful or else. As much as he hated it, he was at a serve disadvantage. He needed to chose his next move careful.
"It's easy to forgot that senpai is actually a genius and gifted with engineering and technology."
Mash spoke proudly of her dear senpai, as Fou agreed.
"Well, how interesting. I knew my husband was smart, but to this extent..."
Berserker Morgan smiled a little, oh yes, the future looked very bright indeed. She wonder what else these 'Arc's' would reveal about him.
"Miss Morgan, what are you thinking about?"
The blonde fairy looked to see one of the things that had pleasantly surprised her the first day of her summoning. Her long time friend, Habetrot and one of the few people she truly trusted completely. She was none too pleased to hear that HER husband had already agreed to marry not just that foolish girl but every other versions of half sister and that left her fuming at being so thoroughly left behind, before their little race even began.
Typical.
Artoria just simply couldn't beat Morgan in a fair fight, not without having some kind of head start or just flat out cheating.
The fact some of the more spiteful versions(Aka the Altered Lancer, Saber and even Rider) of her dear sister rubbed it in her face, only made her madder but she didn't act on the impulse to clobber the damn blonde Saber. It was only because she knew her husband wouldn't like it and Habetrot being their made her very short time here tolerable. That and her husband was a very kind but snarky young man that decide he get to know her personal before forming any opinion about her.
Something she was thankful for.
Xero had asked Berserker Morgan if they're was anything he could do to help her settle in. She had off handely said she'd like to see her oldest friend and after vanishing for two hours, he'd come back with the little fairy in tow. Needless to say, she was very shocked but very delighted to see her. It made the settling in much easier to see not only her old friend but most of her fairy knights as well.
"It's nothing Habetrot, just thinking of the future, nothing to worry."
"Really..."
The tiny Rider smiled but it was full of mischief, making Berserker Morgan shake her head in amusement. All things considered, she was very happy to see her old friend, alive and well again.
Happy even.
"Thanks for having me here Marty."
"Lister's want to know if there's been an update on the two missing Washington girls, Hannah and Beth, the twins that went missing this very day."
"One year this day the Washington girls left the safety of their parents cabin and headed out into a snow storm."
"Foul play?"
"No. There is one individual who are considering a person of interest but his where about's are unknown. He has an interesting history with the Washington family, having warned them about building on the mountain, claiming it is sacred to his forefathers."
"Ya know, there is the old sanatorium, could he be hiding up there?"
"My officers did search the grounds but we found nothing and the girls themselves, if they ran couldn't have made it that far."
"Something about that mountain seems to just breed tragic events, doesn't it?"
"You have no idea Marty."
Xero sighed heavily, mentally switching off the shit,"Goddess above, spare me the bullshit. Bloody idiots have no idea what's up there, nor do they even know what their doing. Then again, when have they ever know to began with?"
"Language."
"Uh oh Steve he said a bad word."
Natasha had a sly smirk on her face, as Clint cheekily smiled at the super soldier, who sighed heavily to himself,"That's never going away is it?"
"Never."
Logan grinned, as Bucky bump his shoulder with Steve's,"Got to set an example cap, someone's got to do it and we all know it's not going to be Zee."
Said teen's reaction, was to give the former Winter Solider the middle finger salute.
Abraxas came to a slow stop, whining and huffing, shaking his head at his rider, as he smiled at his loyal undead stead,"Don't worry about it bub, i just can't people like Cline ya know. Always thinking they know best, unable or unwillingly to open their minds to more...out there ideas or facts of life. The truth can be far stranger then fiction but do they listen? No. I could tell them what i think is up there, but they'd just turn their noses up at me and call me a lair or nutcase. Hell, they could see it with their own eyes and STILL won't believe it. Barely twelve hours and already feel like i'm going mad just by listening to morons. Well, at least i've still got you Brax."
The flaming horse huffed, sounding very pleased by Xero's remark.
"Hrrg, sounds about right."
Levi grumbled, easily seeing where Xero was coming from and agreed completely. Some people had their heads so far up their ass's they couldn't see what was right in front of them.
"Called it."
Xero nodded his head,"I told those morons what was up there and they still wouldn't believe me, even with everyone's injures as proof."
"And what was up there, lord Mazoku? I'm assuming it's what caused the mountain to 'breed tragedy'?"
Kali asked, as mulled over if he should tell them or wait for it to be a surprise. But sadly, that choice was taken out of his hands by Lancer Cu.
"Oh believe us, there were monsters up there pretty lady, but they were smart monsters ya see. Smart enough to know eating boss lady here would be bad, cause she was too sour for them."
Olga's face turned red, glaring at the Lancer and sent a small rock towards his laughing head,"Oh shut the hell up Lancer!"
"Remind but didn't master call here a, oh what was it. I believe it was 'a tasty treat?"
"AGGH!"
Rubbing the horse's neck, Xero looked around the forest, as his Focus lite up his field of vision. The hard-lights transformed into a 3-D map of the mountain side, with a small blip, showing his current location. Further up, was a location tag marked as an entrance to the Washington's ski lodge, cable car station.
Roman whistled,"Hot damn kid, now that is some wild tech. It looks like some sort of video game's head set display map."
"Eh, i had the idea of a video game like hub to show me the way. Not only was it easier to understand, it's something i'm use to seeing and it's fun to think i've basically got a real life video game item. Archer and Lancer approve of it."
"We do."
Xero's fellow gamers nodded with pleased smiles on their faces.
"Heh, good call."
Roman was liking this kid more and more, already proving to be a better boss then Cinder.
"Hmm, more and more i see, the more i can see you're relation to our father in law."
Ember said, rubbing her hand against her chin. Yes, she can clearly see that her brother in law had indeed inherited Tony's smart genes or perhaps, it was his mother's side. Who can say, both were easily one of the smartest people on the planet with very few rivals.
"Amazing."
Asia simply had stars in her eyes, amazed at the advanced tech in such a small device.
"Interesting."
Raven mulled over the idea of simply stealing this Focus thing but from the way the Reaper worded it, it would be a pointless endeavor. While such a device would certainly be helpful, it wasn't worth drawing the Avenger's wrath. Ah well, she had time to think it over, there was no need to rush things.
Seeing as he was close to reaching the entrance, Xero grabbed the strap of his brown, worn out looking duffle bag and got off his steed.
"Sorry boy, but this is were we part ways for now. I can't exactly run the risk of seeing you. Not that i think you're ugly or anything but you're very hot and it be a real pain in the ass to try to explain you. Not that i'm ashamed of you or anything but a walking, flaming horse isn't exactly something you see everyday. So, this way it won't be any skin off my nose or youres for that matter. That is, if you had any of course so really, it's just so i won't have to risk my own skin to save you're non-exist ones."
"Oh by the brothers, he's worse then Yang/Tai."
Weiss and Raven said at the same time, eyes widen in horror at another pun lover, while Yang and Tony laughed.
"You've got to be kidding me."
Emerald felt new anger flow in her, as she listen to Mazoku's so called 'humor' and was no amused in the slightest. If she needed another reason to hate him, he'd just given her another one.
His loyal steed merely huffed, before he vanished in a swirl of fire, making his rider sigh.
"Goddess, the things i do for peace."
Shaking his head, Xero made his way towards the entrance, when he heard the sound of a bus coming, making him look over his shoulder, as he did indeed see a bus make it's way towards the same entrance he just arrived at. His eyebrows went up, when a young girl stepped off the bus and waved the driver off, as she looked up from her phone to him.
"Oh, were you looking to get a ride?"
The green eyed girl in a black leather coat and fuzzy hat asked, as Xero shook his head,"Nope missy, i'm actually heading towards Blackwood mountain. Ah where are my manners, i'm Xero, i work for the Chaldea Security Organization and i'm here to investigate the disappearance of Hannah and Beth Washington."
He introduced himself, holding his hand out for the girl to shake, as her eyes widen at the last part.
"I'm...Samantha Giddings. I am-WAS friends with Beth and Hannah. I...i'm sorry but i'm afraid iv'e never heard of this Chaldea place."
"Not surprising. We're more of less, a secret organization that deals with, how shall i say, the shit no one else wants to deal with. The kind of thing that really can't be explained rationally and is otherwise, otherworldy."
"So, what you're basically ghostbusters?"
Samantha asked with a smile, as Xero grinned,"Yes and you haven't seen a Slimer around her, have you? I'd rather not get slimed, this are nice clothes ya know."
"We'll, have to give him props for having such a good cover story, i actually believe it."
"Who said it was a cover story?"
Fury raised an eyebrow,"It's not?"
"Oh no, i WAS there to figure out what happened to Hannah and Beth. The whole was bugging me for a while and i did some digging some history with Eddie's help."
The former reporter nodded in agreement,"Zee asked us to see what we could find and when we both found similar stories, it was easy to confirm something was very wrong with that mountain. While we had no idea what was going on up there, Zee was able to put the pieces together, to discover what was up there."
"I just didn't expect or Sam and the rest of the peanut gallery to be there. Needless to say, that complicated matters."
"Despite knowing there was something up there, you still went up there? While you're magic was sealed off."
Berserker Morgan couldn't help but ask, thinking it was a rather foolish and down right reckless move by her husband.
"I did. While i love my magic, i know there will be times were i won't be able to use it and as such, trained to be able to fight without it. Speaking of which, Xenovia, Irina, let this be one of you're first lessons. You two will need to learn how to fight without magic, it could save you're life one day."
"Yes sensei."
"Excuse me, but what exactly is a Slimer and what is a 'ghostbusters'?"
Penny asked, hand raised like a child waiting to be called on.
"It's a movie and the Slimer is very gross."
"Oh."
"Still, even i think it was reckless for you to do that master."
Astolfo said, frowning at his husband very reckless move, even if he knew Xero was more then capable of handling himself. But he would have preferred if he at least had either back up or magic."
"It is, it's not like you boss to do something so reckless."
Betty said, brows furrowing,"You usually so cautious and careful."
Xero sighed,"Look it's just one of those things i do and let's leave it at that, okay?"
Sam giggled a little and motioned for him to follow her,"Well i haven't but if he shows up, i'll be sure to point him in you're direction."
"You'd better not, otherwise i'll kick you're ass off the mountain."
Sam merely waved off the playful threat with a smile. It was kinda strange how quickly she grew comfortable around this stranger's presence. She couldn't explain it but he just had this aura around him that just told her, she could trust him. Her mom would gave her an earful about it, if she knew but Sam liked to think she was a good judge of character and this Xero person, seemed like he was not only trustworthy but was a funny guy too.
Xero stiffened up, eyes narrowing into silts, briefly flashing gold, as the hair started standing up on the back of his neck, as his head wiped around so fast it was a wonder why he didn't get whiplash. His actions startled Sam.
The teen's actions on screen also startled everyone watching, not expecting the sudden action.
"Xero...everything okay?"
Xero stared at a certain spot within the woods for a few seconds before he spoke, voice colder then the winds themselves,"No. It's nothing, i just saw a rat, nothing more."
Sam was a little weirded out but otherwise nodded, as the two made their way up the trail. One completely unaware of a pair of eyes following their every movement.
CRUNCH
Then a leg, cladded in a pair of blue pants appeared...with a bloodied up machete filling the screen.
"Oh...that's not good."
Done.
Okay, a bit shorter then i would have liked but i believe this be a good place to stop for now. Something to get the ball rolling and what not, ya know. The undead horse and Focus aren't OC's, they're from somewhere but YOU have to find out where, if you want to know. People forgot, Xero's not just powerful he IS a genuis and Tony's son to boot, of course he could make somehting like a Focus.
So, who is the one following them? Is it the mountain man Jack or someone else far more sinister?
Find out next time my lovely and loyals peeps!
Devil out.
