Chapter 1: Welcome to Surfer's Paradise
Hey everyone, I'm here with a new story. Now I've recently gotten back into the anime Keijo, but for the longest time I could never figure out how to expand on it. But thanks to my buddy kival737101 I think we have a winner. I hope you like what I have planned. Please Review and Enjoy.
Summertime, a time for hot sun, sandy beaches and some of the most epic water sports in the world. And there are two that everyone loves to watch: Surfing and Keijo.
Keijo is a very popular and difficult female sport. In it, female Keijo players must run across small specialized floating platforms called "the land" and fight against one another. If a player touches the land with anything but their feet or falls into the water, they lose. However, players are forbidden to use any of their limbs forcing them to rely on their chests and butt. Since the sport is so popular if you managed to win you not only get huge popularity and bragging rights but you also get paid a fortune in prize money.
This was how three childhood friends got into this sport.
It was summer vacation and everyone was eager for some fun in the sun.
But at one house, two people were waiting nervously.
One was a teenage girl with short white hair and the other was a boy with short black hair. These were Sayaka Miyata and Hiro Aoki.
"Come on where is she?" Hiro asks pacing back and forth.
"You know Nozomi, she's always late." Sayaka sighs.
"But today of all days? Coach Hitomi is coming over and we'll find out whether we made it or if we'll be stuck here all summer." Hiro said.
"Well one thing is for sure, pacing back and forth isn't solving anything." Sayaka said walking over to Hiro and sitting him down in a chair.
"Sayaka I really don't—"
"Don't make me have to sit on you." Sayaka warns.
"Okay, okay." Hiro said putting his hands up in defense.
Suddenly the door swings open to reveal a girl with long black hair tied in a ponytail panting heavily. This was Nozomi Kaminashi.
"I-I made it." She pants.
"Cutting it a little close Nozomi." Sayaka said.
"Sorry, I had a few things to take care of before I could leave." Nozomi apologizes.
Rolling his eyes, Hiro chuckles. "Well at least you made it."
"Wouldn't miss it for the world. The three of us are in it together." Nozomi smiles.
You see Nozomi, Sayaka and Hiro were childhood friends. Both girls were drawn to Keijo but since it was an all-female sport Hiro couldn't join them but luckily he found a way to be there for them and be a part of it all.
"At least you managed to get here before our coach did." Hiro said.
"She would be so angry if you were late again." Sayaka said.
"Hey I'm here aren't I?" Nozomi asks.
"Yes, but not by much." A female voice giggles.
Yelping Nozomi jumps back to see a beautiful woman in her 20's with long blue hair, a white shirt that hugs her figure and shorts. This was Hitomi Hokuto.
"Coach Hitomi." All three said greeting her.
"At ease you three." Hitomi smiles.
"So I don't suppose you got them?" Nozomi asks nervously.
"Well girls, the annual Keijo Junior Cup is a very intense competition. Many apply but only the ones with the most potential and skill are allowed in." Hitomi said.
Gulping Nozomi and Sayaka didn't know what to expect.
Slowly Hiro held one of their hands to try and calm them down.
"And these just came in yesterday." Hitomi said holding up two letters.
Gasping Nozomi and Sayaka slowly took them.
Letting go, Hiro stepped back so the two girls could open their letters.
"Well? What does it say?" Minato asks.
"I-I'm going to the Junior Cup." Sayaka smiles.
"Me too! Surfer's Paradise here I come!" Nozomi cheers.
"Surfer's Paradise?" Hiro asks.
"That's the resort the tournament is taking place at. It's the same resort that the surfing contest Gromfest is at." Hitomi explains.
"Well you two are going to do great. I'm rooting for you." Hiro smiles.
"Oh you'll be doing more than that Hiro." Hitomi smiles getting their attention. "This came for you as well."
Looking to it, Hiro opens the letter and scans the contents.
"I don't believe it." Hiro gasps.
"What? What is it?" Nozomi asks.
"I've been asked to be the Keijo Engineer for the Junior Cup!" Hiro smiles. "I'm coming with you!"
Hearing this both girls smiled and while Sayaka kept it together Nozomi was bouncing with joy.
"We're going to the Junior Cup!" Nozomi smiles pulling the two of them into a group hug.
Smiling the three of them hugged happily.
"Ah those three." Hitomi smiles.
Since Hiro couldn't participate in Keijo he decided to work hard behind the scenes and learned how to build and design Keijo platforms to help Sayaka and Nozomi train.
And needless to say, this made the three of them very close and Hitomi was proud of each one of her students.
"Alright, you three quiet down I have something to say." Hitomi said calming them down. "Now I want you to know, I've watched you three for some time and I am very impressed but once we get to Surfer's Paradise I won't just be your coach I'm also your chaperone. At the Tournament, there will be lots of girls competing alongside you and I want nothing short of your best."
"We promise." Nozomi and Sayaka nod.
"And Hiro, I really stuck my neck out convincing them to look at your designs and I hope you understand what having this job means." Hitomi said.
"I do and I promise I won't let you down." Hiro said.
"Well then…what are you doing? You just got into one of the biggest events of the summer? Let's celebrate." Hiromi smiles.
Hearing this the three of then smile.
"Come on Hiro, we're going for some tasty BBQ." Nozomi smiles grabbing one arm.
"This is a big deal Nozomi we should go somewhere nice." Sayaka said grabbing his other arm.
"Easy for you to say. I can't afford nice." Nozomi said pulling him towards her making Hiro's arm rub against her breasts.
"This is rare treat." Sayaka said pulling Hiro towards her.
"Uh girls if I may. I think I know a place that works for all of us." Hiro said.
Seeing this Hitomi couldn't help but smile. 'Those three are so cute together. This is will be a very fun summer.'
A few days later at Sunset beach, Hiro, Nozomi and Sayaka arrive at a pier.
While Hiro and Sayaka only had a few bags, Nozomi was carrying tons of big bags.
"Uh you know the hotel could have given your bags to be dropped off at the hotel." Sayaka said.
"But why would I pay for something I could do myself?" Nozomi asks.
"You know I would have paid to have that done." Hiro offers.
"I can't take your money Hiro." Nozomi smiles.
"Our bus to the hotel should be here any minute." Sayaka said looking at her watch.
Nearby a teenage guy with spiky red hair was talking on his phone while holding his bag and a surfboard. This was Reef.
"Mo dude I'm here! I'm here! How are things down with you at the Dairy Princess? Oh man are you wearing that cheesy striped shirt and hat? Nice I'll mail you pcis of my tan next week." He said.
Nearby girl with tan skin and blonde hair was taking pics of a surfer on the waves. This was Finn.
"Oh yeah Gromfest is in 12 weeks and 3 days and I am gonna dominate. But in the meantime, I get paid to hang out at the beach and give lessons to some cheesy tourists." She grins.
Finally, at the edge of the pier, a girl with long red hair was looking out at the waves while on her phone. This was Emma.
"There are surfers everywhere and the waves are amazing. Mom, by the end of this summer I'll be a surfer." She smiles.
Suddenly they all heard a horn honking.
Turning around all of them saw a tour bus in the shape of a killer whale pull up.
"What is that?" Reef asks.
"Oh man that is the lamest tour bus ever." Finn laughs when the door opens revealing a man with blonde hair, raggy clothes and a beard.
"Sup dudes, all aboard for Surfer's Paradise Hotel!" He calls out as a killer whale mascot with a boom box stepped out and did some lame dance moves making all six of them cringe.
"You've got to be kidding." Sayaka cringed.
"I think that's our bus." Nozomi said.
"Is it too late to call a cab?" Hiro cringed.
As the 6 of them climbed on the bus drove off leaving the mascot dude behind.
"Uh aren't you forgetting something?" Finn calls out.
"Nope." The driver said driving ahead leaving the mascot struggling to catch up.
At the hotel, a teenage boy with spiky brown hair enters a suite to see it was totally trashed with a teenage girl with long brown hair was lying on the couch.
"Lo? Lo!" He calls out walking to the window. "Amazing I leave for one day and you managed to trash the place." He said opening the window.
"Ugh Ty it was just a little party." Lo groans waking up.
When Ty looks out the window he looks in shock to see the deck was completely trashed.
"It will all be cleaned up by the time they get back." Lo said.
"I think you better see this." Walking to the table Ty turns on the TV and Lo looks to see her party was on the news.
"Oh no, no, no, no." Lo said getting up. "Is there any chance daddy won't find out about this?" Lo asks.
"What do you think?" Ty asks causing her to groan.
Back on the bus, Hiro was fidgeting in his notebook coming up with ideas for matches.
"So are you three working at the hotel this summer too?" Emma asks.
"No, we're competing at the Keijo Junior Cup." Nozomi said.
"Keijo huh? Oh yeah hottest sport in the world. I am so getting tickets for that." Reef grins.
"Ugh ignore him. But seriously good luck." Finn said. "I thought about getting into that sport but I ended up sticking with surfing."
"Doesn't that tournament last the whole summer?" Emma asks.
"All the way to right before Gromfest. That way once one big event ends we hit you with another one for the big closer." The driver said. "Sup kids, I'm the Kahuna and I drive the bus into town so if any of you need a lift just come looking for me."
"Noted." Hiro said.
"So ladies, any chance I can see some of your moves?" Reef asks leaning over.
"In your dreams." Sayaka deadpans causing Finn to laugh.
"I like you." Finn smiles.
"So what about you?" Emma asks looking at Hiro.
"I'm gonna be one of those behind-the-scenes guys working on the arenas. At least I get paid to do it." Hiro said.
"So what about you guys?" Nozomi asks.
"We're here for the other tournament, Gromfest." Finn said.
"I knew I'd get some fans of the surf." Kahuna said.
"Is it as epic as they say?" Finn asks.
"Best in the country." Kahuna nods.
"Oh man I am so stoked! So stoked!" Reef pops his head out the window in excitement but ends up getting hit by bird poop. "Uh I think it might be raining."
Instantly they all burst into laughter.
"That's not rain." Nozomi snickers.
"Aw man." Reef snickers.
"So can we get your names? I wanna know who to root for." Emma said.
"My name is Nozomi and this is Sayaka." Nozomi introduced.
"Hi." Sayaka acknowledges.
"And this here is Hiro." Nozomi said.
"Nice to meet you." Hiro waves.
"Nice to meet you I'm Emma." She smiles.
"Sup I'm—" Before Finn could introduce herself Reef butted in.
"I'm Reef or as you can call me the best surfer ever and the man of your dreams." Reef smirks before Finn shoves him away.
"More like nightmares. I'm Finn." Finn said.
Soon the bus pulled up in front of the hotel, as Kahuna honked the horn a guy with dark skin and a blonde afro climbed out of the fountain. This was Broseph.
"Oh man." He yawns.
"Hey you better wake up. You gotta clock-in in 10 minutes." Kahuna reminds.
"I'm up." Broseph yawns walking over. "Wassup everyone."
"Rough night?" Hiro asks.
"Oh man I slept in. What time is it?" Broseph said.
"About noon." Emma said.
"Yes, just made it." Broseph said following them in.
As Kahuna drove off the mascot had finally arrived back at the hotel and was totally exahusted.
But when they did they saw the hotel was some cheesy pirate-themed joint.
"You know for a resort this place isn't very clean." Sayaka said looking around at the mess when a housekeeper walked by.
"We haven't even gotten to the outside." She said.
Looking outside all of them looked in horror to see the entire place was trashed.
"What kind of hotel is this?" Hiro asks.
"A fun one." Reef said.
"Is that a jeep in the pool?" Emma points.
"What happened here?" Nozomi asks.
"Oh it was the party last night. It was sick." Broseph said.
"Aw man I love this place already." Reef said.
"Guess when we're not competing we'll be having fun." Nozomi smiles.
"Hopefully not this kind of fun." Sayaka said.
"Yeah if Coach saw us in that kind of party she'd let us have it." Hiro agrees.
"So where do we go now?" Emma asks.
"I don't know but I need to put my bags up and hit the beach." Reef said.
At the front desk, a family was complaing to the front desk guy.
"This is unacceptable! I demand to talk to the manager." The father orders.
"Of course." He said taking out a walkie talkie. "Sir we got a code red." He whispers. "It'll just be a minute."
As the family walks away Hiro, Sayaka and Nozomi walk up.
"Welcome to Surfer's Paradise we are surfing." He said.
"You are surfing?" Hiro raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah I'm required to say that." He admits.
"We're here for the Keijo tournament." Nozomi smiles.
"Oh man nice, you guys are gonna be the hotel's big summer event. Sorry but the competition has been stalled because of the damages." He said.
"What happened here?" Sayaka asks.
"The owner's daughter threw a huge end-of-school party here." He said.
"Wow, that's wild." Emma said walking over.
"Hey we're the new summer staff." Finn said.
"Oh what's up? I'm Johnny. I run the front desk." Johnny said.
"Well if the tournament is stalled where do we go?" Hiro asks.
Before Johnny could answer a man with blonde hair and a manager's uniform walked in. This was Baumer or as everyone called him, Bummer.
"Yes, yes golf carts need paint, chairs need repaired and the pool needs to be cleaned. No problem." Bummer said hanging up. "If I had a week." He groans.
"Sir." Johnny clears his throat. "This is Mr and Mrs Marvin."
"What a lovely family." Bummer said fixing himself. "I understand the party last night was a little loud, how about I take 20 percent off your bill?"
"Make it 30." Mr. Marvin said.
"Done and to show I'm a good sport how about free surfing lessons for the whole family?" Bummer offers.
"You hear that kids? Free surfing." Mr. Marvin said looking at his twin boys.
"No way, we hate surfing."
"We want souvenirs."
"You are a lucky man Mr. Marvin. Enjoy the hotel." Bummer said as they left.
"Wow talk about brats." Hiro said.
"Yeah I'd hate to be those parents." Sayaka said.
"Come on, thye don't look that bad." Nozomi said.
"What a bunch of kooks." Finn said as Bummer walks over.
"Welcome, checking in I see. I'm Andrew Baumer, Day Manager of this hotel. Is there anything I can get you?" He asks.
"I'd love a cool can of pop." Reef said.
"Uhm sir. They're not guests." Johnny said.
"We're the new summer staff." Finn said.
"Wassup." Broseph said.
"Then why are you standing in the lobby?" Bummer asks immediately acting mean.
"Uh hi I'm Emma—"
"Yeah, yeah no time for chat. I need every hand I can get. What about you three? Why are you just standing there?" Bummer asks looking at Hiro, Sayaka and Nozomi.
"Uh we're not staff, we're here about the Keijo Junior Cup." Nozomi said gesturing to her and Sayaka.
"And I'm here because I'm the Keijo Engineer and Land tester." Hiro said as they all held up their slips.
"Well you three got off easy then. Head to the back conference room, bring your bags with you." Bummer points.
"Well wish us luck guys." Nozomi said.
"Yeah…us too." Finn cringed.
Making their way to the back conference room, the three of them gasp seeing the room was filled with tons of other girls here to compete.
"Oh wow, looks like we have some competition." Nozomi gasps.
"This is not going to be easy, that's for sure." Sayaka said.
"Oh Hiro, there you are." Looking over they saw Coach Hitomi waving at them.
"Glad to see at least one familiar face." Hiro smiles as she walks over.
"Girls, I'm gonna need to take Hiro off your hands for a little bit. I need to tell him about his duties here." Hitomi said.
"We'll be here." Nozomi said as the two of them walked away.
Walking to near the stage, Hitomi brought Hiro to the staff and judges for this event.
One was an obese woman with long red hair, one was a middle-aged woman with short brown hair and the last was a beautiful woman in her late 20's with long black hair. These were Nagisa Ujibe, Ayako Sakashiro and Keijo Pro Kyoko Shirayuki.
"Everyone this is Hiro Aoki, the one I told you about." Hitomi introduced.
"So you're our engineer for the summer?" Nagisa asks.
"Yes, that's right." Hiro nods.
"I must say, we've looked at your designs and we were very impressed. I wish half my matches were on arenas as interesting as yours." Kyoko said.
"Thank you. That means a lot to hear a pro like you say you like my work." Hiro smiles.
"Don't get too cocky. Here's the rules for your job. There will be Keijo matches each week, for the first few weeks you can do just standard land designs but as we near the end I expect land designs that will push our finalists to their limits. A Keijo player can't compete if she has no land to battle on. Do I make myself clear?" Ayako asks.
"Yes, ma'am." Hiro said quickly.
"You will be working at the indoor pool area where our matches will be held. There you will design and test the lands where our players will compete." Nagisa adds.
"Sounds reasonable. I'm getting paid to do this right?" Hiro asks.
"Of course." Kyoko nods.
"One more thing we ask that you allow any Keijo players who wish to train to check in with you. We want to give these people an entire summer's worth of amazing matches. We hope you're up to the task." Ayako said.
"He is, I've seen Hiro work firsthand. He won't disappoint." Hitomi vouches.
"Well then, as of today the 4 of us are not only the judges and coaches to the players, but we are also your bosses. So that means you take one step out of line and you will be replaced." Ayako glares.
"Uh I understand." Hiro nods nervously.
As all the Keijo Girls were muttering to themselves they heard the mic turn on.
Looking to the stage they see the 4 judges step forward.
"I don't believe it. Our coach is standing next to 3 Keijo legends." Nozomi said blown away.
"No surprise. Coach Hitomi is amazing." Sayaka said.
"Alright girls quiet and listen up." Nagiasa said getting their attention. "You may think this is some tropical resort vacation where you can have fun and compete but don't think for a second you just relax your whole time here."
"The Keijo Junior Cup will extend for the next 12 weeks. But they will change after 6 weeks. For the first part, there are 4 brackets and you will each be divided into each one. And we will hold matches until only 6 remain in each bracket. How a player remains in the Cup isn't settled just by the last one standing but also your skills as a player and how many others you can knock off the land." Nagisa starts.
"Finally the top 24 players will be divided into 2 teams. And for the remaining 6 weeks, the teams will clash until for the final match the Keijo players with the most points will compete and the winner takes home the Keijo Junior Cup!" Ayako declares as Hitomi and Kyoko hold up a beautiful golden trophy causing all the girls to get pumped.
"And the big cash prize." Nozomi said determined.
"First, I make it in the top of my bracket and then I go focus on beating the other team." Sayaka said equally determined.
"Brackets will be announced in a few days as the Hotel needs time to fix itself up after last night's fiasco." Nagisa said.
"But for any of you who want to start training please speak to our Keijo Engineer and field tester Hiro Aoki." Hitomi introduces as Hiro slowly walks up on stage.
"Should any of you want to train simply go to him and he'll give you a time slot." Kyoko explains.
"Yes! Since he's our best friend Hiro give us the best slots." Nozomi smiles.
Smiling Sayaka liked the sound of that.
However little did they know quite a few other girls were looking at Hiro anxious to get the best training slots as well.
"Now you will all be assigned a room that you will be sharing for the summer. While you are allowed to enjoy the Hotel, we ask that you not do anything to disrupte the hotel, the guests and staff. We may be in a tournament but we are all still guests here. So try and be on your best behavior." Hitomi said.
"Good luck to all of you and may the best Keijo player win." Kyoko said.
Getting their room numbers, Nozomi and Sayaka saw they were sharing it with two others.
"Talk about lucky, you and me are gonna share a hotel room for the whole summer." Nozomi smiles.
"Hardly, I bet Coach Hitomi just put us together to make it easier." Sayaka said.
"Way to take the fun out of it." Nozomi pouts.
"I guess Hiro got his own room." Sayaka said looking to see he wasn't with them.
"Hmm where is he?" Nozomi asks looking around when she spotted him being handed a room key by Hitomi.
Smiling she was about to walk over when she saw someone else beat her to him.
"Hello there." Hiro turns to see a girl with short wavy magenta hair walks up to him.
"Can I help you?" Hiro asks.
"I just thought I would get friendly with the person in charge. Since I'm going to be training a lot I thought I would play nice with the one managing all the equipment. My name's Hanabi Kawai." She smiles.
"Nice to meet you, Hiro Aoki but I guess you already knew that." Hiro said.
"Yes I do, and I hope you and I get along well." Hanabi smiles.
Reaching out Hanabi took Hiro's hand and Nozomi twitches annoyed as she was trying to get close to him.
"Hey Hiro, there you are." Nozomi interrupts walking over. "Sorry to interrupt, best friend coming through. Hiro we better go get our stuff so we can get settled in."
"Oh yeah you're right. I'll see you later Hanabi. Come find me when signups start." Hiro sald.
"Oh believe me I will." Hanabi said. 'My looks like this one might be interesting. Wonder if he has any muscles under that shirt?'
Helping Nozomi and Sayaka with their bags, they arrive at their room.
"Alright here we are room 802." Nozomi read as Hiro put the bags down.
"Next Nozomi, ask the bellhop for a cart." Hiro groans.
"Or pack less." Sayaka adds.
"It's easier to carry it myself than to pay someone to do this." Nozomi said as they open the door to see two girls were already inside.
One was a girl with crimson hair in pigtails and the other was a girl with light brown hair tied in a high ponytail.
"Hi, you must our roommates." Nozomi greeted getting their attention.
"Oh hi there, it's nice to meet you both." The girl with crimson hair smiles as the two girls walked in.
"If we end up facing each other down the line I hope there's no hard feelings." The brown hair girl said.
"Not if you don't make it personal." Sayaka said.
"I'm Non Toyoguchi and this is Kazane Aoba." The crimson hair introduced.
"Nozomi and this is my best friend Sayaka."
"What am I chopped liver?" Hiro asks crossing his arms.
"No of course not. Uh this is Hiro my other best friend." Nozomi said quickly.
"Well it's nice to meet you both." Kazane said.
"If you girls need training hopefully I can get you in." Hiro said.
"Let us know when we can sign up." Non said.
"I'll leave you girls to get close. I'm gonna go find my room." Hiro said grabbing his bags and walking away.
"Wow must be nice having friends who are in the same sport as you." Kazane said.
"Yeah it is, Sayaka is my training partner and Hiro keeps us on our feet." Nozomi said.
"The reason he got so good at designing lands was from making them for us." Sayaka confirms.
"Wow, I wonder what he'll make the for the cup. I hope I can see what he creates." Kazane said.
"Nozomi, you unpack I'm gonna go see if he needs help." Sayaka said walking out.
"Don't stay too long." Nozomi said.
As Sayaka turns the corner she gasps seeing a girl with shoulder-length orange hair talking to Hiro.
"So Hiro, any chance I can get a test run at the new courses?" She asks.
"Well listen uh…"
"Nami. Nami Nanase." She smiles.
"Nami, I just go here so I haven't time to prep anything yet. You heard the judges, until the hotel is fixed up I can't do anything." Hiro said.
"Well then I'll be waiting, I plan on being a Keijo idol by the end of this tournament I really need to practice to get that title. So that means you'll be seeing me quite a bit." Nami said leaning in close.
Seeing this Sayaka narrows her eyes.
"Oh well I can't wait." Hiro said.
"Me too." Nami said when Sayaka walks over.
"Hiro, we should probably find your room." Sayaka said.
"Oh yeah uh see you later Nami." Hiro said as Sayaka pulls him away.
As Sayaka looks to Nami both girls glare each other down for a few seconds before leaving.
"Be careful Hiro there might be girls here who try to use you to get what they want. Don't fall for anything." Sayaka warns as they arrive at Hiro's room.
"Sayaka you don't have to worry about me. I can take care of myself." Hiro said opening his door.
"I trust you, but it's our competition I don't trust." Sayaka said.
"Look I know you're used to having me help just you and Nozomi but while I'm the engineer I'm required to help all participating players. So right now, why don't you just focus on winning." Hiro smiles.
"Oh alright." Sayaka smiles.
"Besides, I know you and you can handle just about any girl that comes your way." Hiro said.
"Thanks Hiro, so does that mean you'll still be rooting for me?" Sayaka asks.
"Always." Hiro nods.
Hearing this Sayaka felt much better.
"Now how about we unpack and we go hang out a little bit around the resort?" Hiro suggests.
"I'd like that." Sayaka smiles walking out.
Looking around his room, Hiro saw a bed, a desk and a tv set up for him.
Putting his bags down, Hiro walks to the window to see the mess from the party still being cleaned up.
With the events of the hotel and the Junior Cup going on, this summer was going to be very eventful.
