A few weeks later
Beginning of July
Tonight Alaina was babysitting Nikki and Jason's son Dylan at their place. She was very excited. Jamie, not so much only because him and Eddie were going on a date night, so the other 3 would be home alone.
"Honey stop, they'll be fine." Eddie said coming out of the master bathroom putting her earrings on.
"I know they will, but you know me." Jamie sat on the corner of the bed, pulling on his socks and shoes. She knelt one knee behind him on the bed and rubbed his shoulders in the suit jacket he was wearing.
"I know we raised good kids, who are more then capable of holding down the fort for a couple hours." She said, leaning closer to his ear and pecking him on the cheek before she got up.
"Guess we'll know by tonight if we did for sure." He said watching Eddie walk away to get her high heels from the closet. Admiring how hot she looked in the knee length, navy blue fitted dress she wore.
"Damn." He smiled and got up.
"What?" She asked coming out of the closet with her shoes in hand.
"You look good." He blushed.
"Thanks. You look sharp too, I like this color on you." She told him touching the arm of his jacket. He smiled and kissed her before they headed out.
"Alright we're leaving. Ryan, lock the door behind us. All of you in bed by 9, seriously. No fighting, no more junk food, and no going outside." Eddie rambled grabbing her purse and then letting Jamie slip on her coat.
"You call one of us the second something goes wrong. Got it?" Jamie said pointing.
"Yeah dad, we know." Ryan said waiting for them to leave so he could lock the door.
"We'll be home by 10, love you." Eddie said and blew a kiss to them all, then they left.
———
When they got to the restaurant, they had this big booth all to themselves it was super romantic.
"After we order I'm gonna go to the bathroom and check on the kids." Eddie said opening the menu.
"I thought you weren't concerned?" Jamie pointed out.
"I'm not."
"Eddie." He cocked his head.
"Well I wasn't but your stress is stressing me out, I can practically feel it coming off your body!" She said quietly.
"Sorry. Why don't you just send a quick text?" He suggested. So Eddie did that, all the kids responded saying everything was good. Alaina said she was getting Dylan ready for bed and that it was a lot of fun to play mom.
Jamie and Eddie enjoyed there dinner and wine together, it was so peaceful and much needed. Maybe now that the kids were older they could do this more often.
——
When they got home they were surprised the house was picked up, all the kids were in bed. Alaina had gotten home not too long ago by Nikki, and was getting out of the shower when they got to the top of the steps.
"Ooo mom you look so good." She said combing her hair in the mirror.
"Shhh, thank you, we'll talk tomorrow alright?" Eddie said wanting to get to bed with Jamie and get out of this dress.
"Goodnight." Jamie said quietly to Alaina, not to disturb the other kids.
"Night." Alaina replied watching them go into their room and close the door.
Jamie locked the bedroom door, and then followed Eddie to the closet where she wanted to get out of her dress.
"Here." He moved her hair to the side and slowly unzipped it, revealing her.
"I'm so tired but so turned on right now." She said as he helped her out of her dress.
"Don't worry, I'll make it quick." He flirted. They went back to the bed and got busy.
———
In the morning everyone was up by 8, they had to eat breakfast and get to church. Jamie handled breakfast so Eddie could throw together the crockpot of Mac and cheese for family dinner later.
"So were you guys scared last night home alone?" Alaina asked all her siblings sitting at the table eating.
"No!" Ryan was quick to answer.
"Not really." Scarlett said.
"I was!" Ava said changing it up.
"Why's that?" Jamie wondered and sat down with his plate.
"Cause Ryan was knocking on our wall when we went to bed!" She said.
"Ha…" Ryan laughed at himself thinking he was funny.
"Oh Ryan why would you do that?" Eddie asked from the kitchen.
"I stopped after like 3 times!" He defended.
"I knew it was you so I wasn't scared." Scarlett said.
"Still, don't do that. They might try and get you back one day and it won't be funny then." Jamie told him.
"I'm not scared." He said acting tough.
"Yeah we'll see." Alaina said taking a bite of her food.
"Babe you gonna eat with us?" Jamie wondered switching his attention to Eddie.
"Yeah yeah. I just need to get this in the crockpot, then I'll eat and get ready." She said rushing.
"Can I help you do something?" Jamie got up from the table asking.
"No it's fine, I'll just eat and do this, I just forgot I have to boil the noodles so it's taking awhile." She said.
"Okay, well let me know." He said and returned to the table to eat.
——
At family dinner all the kids were playing and running around as usual until it was time to eat.
"I think we're about ready if someone wants to gather the troops." Erin said making her way to the table with the roast.
"Alaina go tell everyone upstairs it's time to eat." Eddie went and told her oldest, who was in the living room playing with Madeline.
"If Dylan's up there can you please help him down the steps? I don't need him tripping again." Nikki told Alaina as she headed up the steps.
"Yeah, he needed help last night too." She told her and disappeared up the steps.
"Oh I forgot she was babysitting for the first time! How was that!?" Cassidy wondered. I think she was interested in having Alaina watch Connor and Madeline sometime.
"She loved it! She's my mini mom." Eddie said.
"Yeah, she was great! Dylan loves her, she did all my dishes too!" Nikki said pleased.
"Oh wow! Sounds like a dream babysitter!" Cassidy said.
Everyone started sitting down at the table, there was no fighting over at the kids table for once. Frank had got little cards with everyone's names on them and placed them where there seat was for fun.
"Who wants to say Grace?" Frank asked looking at everyone getting situated.
"I'll do it." Sean volunteered and everyone bowed there heads.
After Grace they all filled there plates and passed the food along.
Eddie sat beside Trish (Sean's Wife) and couldn't help but notice how little of food she was putting on her plate. She knew she was a little bit of a picky eater but if it was something she didn't like she simply passed it along.
Over the chatter of everyone Eddie gave her a look of wonder with a squint of her one eye.
"What?" Trish asked, no one was paying attention to them they were all talking and with the kids chatter it was no big deal.
"You good?" Eddie asked with a half smile.
"Sh." Trish said quietly trying not to smile about it. Eddie's eyes grew huge at her, she was pregnant! Finally! They've been trying for about a year! Now it was just a matter of praying for a healthy pregnancy.
——
After dinner Eddie finally got Trish alone to talk about it beings no one else knew except Sean obviously.
"I am just so excited for you guys! How far along are you?" Eddie asked.
"About 8 weeks, we would've told everyone if it would've came up but until then we're trying to wait a little while yet, I don't know. I'm just scared somethings gonna go wrong." Trish told her.
"Hey I get that! Jamie and I tried for Alaina for almost a year, doesn't mean your gonna have a high risk pregnancy! Aside from my morning sickness I had a great pregnancy!" Eddie wanted to give her some confidence.
"That's refreshing to hear."
"Good! If you have any questions or anything let me know, I know it's been awhile for me but I might still remember!" Eddie said followed by them both laughing. They exchanged a quick hug before getting interrupted by Erin wanting a head count to play a card game.
