Observations, Excerpt 4—

Weeks have passed, and still Mira sleeps. Ansem had her moved to the infirmary for medical observation and remains confounded by her lack of deterioration. Rather than waste away into a shell of herself, she remains unchanged, frozen in time. After all, a sleeping heart is fundamentally different from a coma. Small mercies.

Xehanort hasn't visited her at all, instead throwing himself into even darker pursuits unbeknownst to Ansem. This sudden foray into riskier experimentation on others leads me to question whether she was successful in bringing the old coot back, but as he hasn't checked on her at all, I very much doubt it's him. His focus lies solely in the lab and on the dark door he opened. He had little difficulty convincing Even to participate, but Aeleus and Dilan were more troublesome, so I had to step in. Eventually, even they came around, but only after he lied and said that the results would ultimately help protect Radiant Garden. Fools.

Even if they realize the deception, we are all in too deep to back out now. The poor souls he's condemned lie wasting away in the deepest basement, and countless others have been selected to take their places. At least I could free one from her torment. Anything is permissible in the pursuit of his plans. It reminds me of my own master. Of myself...

Observations, Excerpt 5—

Six months since she fell asleep. Time has never moved more slowly than it does now. Ansem wrote a letter to Eraqus detailing the situation, but it's pointless. A dead man can't reply. There will be questions when her supposed 'master' doesn't respond or check on her welfare, but what does that matter when she can't answer?

Observations, Excerpt 6—

Ansem had a visitor today. Mickey looks much the same as when I saw him last, but his presence presents an opportunity. I took a leaf out of her book and listened in on their conversations from the air vent over his office. Apparently, the worlds are blinking out at a rapid pace. Whether by our meddling with the door, or darkness's natural tendency to spread and devour light, it's only a matter of time before the same happens here...

I pulled Mickey aside before he left; he was wary of me, but once I told him of Mira's condition, that fell away, leaving only concern. I asked if there was anything he could do to wake her up, and he agreed to try. Anything for a friend, he'd said, though he needed to consult with his master first. All the better. Yen Sid should be able to teach the mouse anything he needs to know about the power of waking. The end of my vigil may be in sight, and it brings my heart relief.

Observations, Excerpt 7—

Ansem knows what we've done and ordered the second lab to be sealed. No matter what argument Xehanort threw at him, he was adamant about the cessation of experimentation. But changing the codes and barring our entrance is hardly a deterrent now that the others have learned to traverse dark corridors. The old fool doesn't realize he'd lost control of the situation the moment he let Xehanort in.

Observations, Excerpt 8—

The two runts have officially been accepted as Ansem's newest apprentices, bringing our number to seven. On their first day, they demanded to know what happened to Mira and have visited her in the infirmary every morning since. I've changed my visits to be in the evening to avoid them.

Despite our increase in number, the castle feels emptier than ever. I assumed they'd make themselves into nuisances, but much of their mischief has deserted them. I sometimes find them watching us and speaking to each other in hushed voices. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but it feels like they know something...

Observations, Excerpt 9—

Xehanort posed the idea of using Mira as a test subject. If I had any doubt that her master is not in control, it's gone now. Everyone vetoed the idea immediately, but I don't think that's the last I'll hear of it. I've done unspeakable things in my life, stood by while others suffered for the greater good, but I refuse to allow him to strip Mira of her sense of self; they can have anyone else. Not her. If the mouse doesn't return soon, then I will wake her myself, consequences be damned.

Observations, Excerpt 10—

Mickey failed. Before his departure, he claimed there was something odd about her heart that prevented him from reaching her, a barrier of some kind. I can't fathom what he was describing, but whatever impeded him will not stop me. If anyone asks, I'll credit the mouse for having woken her up somehow– it's not like he's here to refute my claim. No one will have to know the truth. It's as good an opportunity as I'll get under the circumstances, and I cannot delay any longer.

I'll... see you soon, Mira.
