The next morning as she got ready for work, she dreaded going in and thought about calling in sick. She knew Megan would grill her for details. 'No. It's only my second day.' She thought to herself.

She drove to work all the while thinking about what she wanted with Kevin. 'Did she want to date him while he was a Supe? Did she want him to give up who he was? There was an amazing connection with him. How would she deal with that?' All she did know was that she did like him and maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to take a chance. She walked into the building ready to handle whatever life threw at her. She pushed the elevator button and waited for it to arrive. To her surprise when the door opened, there was Kevin, back wearing his supe outfit. She instantly got a big smile on her face.

"Hey you!" She exclaimed.

"Hi." He said acting like he didn't even know her.

"Are you ok?" She asked worried.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"You're acting like you don't even know me? You're not acting like you did yesterday."

"Homelander came to me last night after you left, and we were talking about you, and I told him I thought about taking the cure and he told me that I can't. If I want to be with you then I need to find a way to be with you with my powers or I can't be with you."

"So, you are giving me the cold shoulder?"

"It's easier that way."

"Are there cameras in here?" She asked.

"No."

Zoey immediately pulled the emergency stop button.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

"Something I saw on TV. What is really going on?" She asked sternly.

"Homelander said he would kill you if I gave up my powers. Again, I either need to find a way to be with you with my powers or we can't be together."

"No, I don't believe that."

"It's true. We can go ask him yourself."

"I think I would rather talk to Annie. But I must get to work." She said pushing the emergency button back in. The elevator started moving again and was on Zoey's floor before they knew it.

Zoey walked into work and was immediately bombarded with questions by Megan.

"So, what happened? What's going on?"

"Megan I really don't want to talk about it." She said sighing.

"Oh, come on. I really want to know what happened." She begged.

"And I said I really don't want to talk about it." Zoey snapped back.

"Something bad happened, didn't it?" Megan asked.

"Yes."

"Ok. I'll drop it."

"Actually Megan, can I have the day off? I need to go talk to starlight."

"Yea sure go ahead. Do you want me to take you to her?"

"That would be great. Thanks."

As they headed out to see Annie, Zoey wondered what she was going to ask her. They got to Annie's room and Megan knocked on her door.

"Megan, come in. How are you?" Annie asked.

"Hey Annie. I'm good. I have a new co-worker Zoey who needs to talk to you about something."

"Sure."

"Thanks. I must get back to work. See you later Annie."

"Bye Megan."

"Hey Zoey, what can I do for you?" Annie asked her.

"I am just going to ask you this."

"What's wrong Zoey?"

"Has Kevin ever been in love?"

"Kevin? In love? Yea, right?"

"I'm serious Annie."

"Why? Who wants to know?"

"Well, I do."

"Oh hunny, you do not want to involve yourself with that."

"Why not?"

"Because all male supes are all the same. They think because they are men and have superpowers that they are better than everyone else."

"Well, what about his wife?"

"Ex-wife. They are getting a divorce. Plus, it was an arranged marriage to begin with. She won some stupid contest and they married for publicity reasons."

"That's exactly what he said."

"He said? When did you talk to him?"

"Yesterday. He bumped into me as I was heading to the tech room and then after work, we were going to get some coffee but ended up just staying in and talked."

"Talked? Kevin doesn't talk."

"Annie, why would I make this stuff up?"

"I don't know. But you don't know him like I do. He is a player; he doesn't fall in love."

"Ok. Well, what would you say if I told you that he doesn't want to be a supe anymore. That he wants to take the cure and be normal."

"I would say you are crazy."

"Well, it's true. He told me himself. He told me there is something about me that makes him WANT to be normal. He thinks he may even love me."

"Zoey look, I know I don't know you, but I know him. He doesn't know what it's like to love. Cassandra wasn't even love. They didn't love each other. It was all a show."

"But..."

"No Zoey. Do yourself a favor and forget it."

"Let's say hypothetically, he wasn't lying." Zoey said while Annie rolled her eyes. "Please Annie, humor me."

"Alright fine."

"The thing is Homelander told Kevin that if he wanted to be with me, he would have to do it with his supe powers, or he'd have me killed."

"Homelander said that?"

"According to Kevin."

"So, Kevin told you this. Of course, he did."

"Annie, why are you so against this?"

"I just don't want to see you get hurt."

"If he was lying, why would he show me his gills and the fact that he can talk to Ambrosia?"

"Did he also tell you what he does with Ambrosia? And did he also tell you about the girl that gill fucked him?"

"Yes, and yes."

That stopped Annie dead in her tracks.

"Wait he told you about that stuff?"

"I just said he did."

"Ok prove it. What did he tell you?"

"That sometimes he mind fucks ambrosia and that that girl gill raped him. He told her to stop but she just kept going, like she was getting off on it."

"Omg. He did tell you."

"How do you know about the gill fucking?"

"I was the one he came to about it. Him and I are the only ones that know about it."

"So..what does that mean?"

"It means that...maybe I don't know him as much as I thought I did."

"So, are you going to help with Homelander?"

"I don't know how I can help. Once Homelander makes up his mind, it's hard to change it. I don't understand what it matters if Kevin becomes normal."

Zoey was silent not sure what to say. There was a knock at the door. It was none other than Homelander.

"Stay quiet." Annie told Zoey.

"Starlight." Homelander said.

"Homelander. What do you want?"

"Actually, I came to talk to Zoey."

"How did you even know she was here?"

"Well, she is supposed to be at work, so that was the first place I looked. And Miss Megan was so starstruck that she told me right away where she was."

"What do you want with Zoey?" Annie asked.

"I want to know what her plan is with deep. And I want to talk to her. Not you be the middle."

Annie and Zoey looked at each other and Annie nodded.

"Um...I'm not sure of my plan with Kevin yet."

"Well, you better figure it out. Because like I told him, you guys can be together, I have no problem with that. But he can't be normal. He needs to stay a supe."

"Why? What does it matter if he is a supe or not?" Annie asked.

"Because we need him. He is irreplaceable in the seven. We don't have anyone like him."

"But shouldn't it be his decision? Can't we just I don't know have a contest for someone new?" Annie asked.

Homelander looked at Zoey and then looked at Annie. "And I told Deep, that if he takes the cure, I will kill Zoey. Simple as that. Because he is only taking the cure to be with her. So, if he becomes normal then he won't have anyone to be normal with. He will be all alone."

"You're an asshole!" Zoey said yelling at him.

"I know. You'll get used to it." He said walking out the door.

Annie and Zoey looked at each other wondering what to do next.

"Annie, would it be possible for Kevin and me to talk to you and Hughie?"

"If you think it would help."

"Honestly though I think I could get use to dating a supe but what I don't think I could get use to is hearing ambrosia while we are you know together."

"I understand that."

"I just don't know what I want to do. I do like Kevin and the thought of being with him as a normal person is great. But if there is a possibility of me being murdered, I don't know if it's worth being with him."

"I know. It's difficult dating a supe. I'll talk to Hughie and see when the four of us can get together."

"Thanks so much Annie. This means a lot. I know I only really met him yesterday morning, but I do feel a connection between us."

Zoey left and headed back down to see Megan.

"Hey Megan. I'm not feeling the best, is it ok if I just go home?"

"Yea. Go ahead. Feel better."

"Thanks."

"Hey, you know what. Take the week off."

"A week? But I just started."

"It's ok. You're going through a lot right now. We have it covered."

"Are you sure?" Zoey asked.

"Absolutely."
