A/N: Before I allow you anyone to continue, there are two things I'm going to explain so there is no confusion in the future.
One, every single Dragon Age Origins/Awakening companion are now somewhere in the Mojave. Obviously since this takes place as soon as Awakening ends, this means Lucius wasn't able to complete the Amgarrak, With Hunt DLC's. I will explore those two in the upcoming Chapters, so that's something to await. On the companion topic, it's also important to note that all companion quests, except Wynne's, since she was... well, you're reading the story, are complete, meaning the Warden has a nice relationship with all his companions. He's close to everyone, especially Morrigan. ;)
Two, Sten. Much like my first Dragon Age Origins playthrough, I completely forgot about Sten. Originally, I was going to rewrite a few passages to include Sten. But I'm choosing to just move on. He's a great companion, it's just I feel someone like Justice gives a lot more to the overall story.
Enjoy! And please, leave me a Review when you've got the time.
Chapter 2: A Necessary Risk
"Nope, sorry." Six spoke as though she was a child, which, was completely natural. "I. Do. Not. Care. Worst case scenario, it'll just cause a few explosions." Six was chewing on gum, so there were too many smacking noises to completely understand what she was saying. "I'm not stopping when I spent all those caps on the supplies to make this thing." Even though the situation was serious, Six's smile wasn't going anywhere. Even as Veronica, along with all fellow Companions were attempting to restrain Six, that smile wasn't going anywhere.
Arcade was now attempting to step in. As crazy as she sometimes was, Six was usually willing to Arcade's good advice. "Six, j-just wait a minute!" Thanks to Six's casual subsonic speeds, it wasn't easy to talk without losing one's oxygen supply. "You... you need to think about all possible outcomes." Six's pace was starting to slow. Were his warnings getting through? "The Mojave... it can... most likely will... EXPLODE!"
Six, giving no warnings, came to a complete stop, causing Arcade to nearly collapse. Then, again, with no warnings, Six gave Arcade a smooch on the lips, shocking everyone. "Arcade. My sweet, young, naive Arcade." Six's arms were now confining Arcade to an inescapable prison. "Guess what?" While Arcade was now attempting to flee from Six, Six was already running across the room again, now with traveling companion. "We're gonna take on chance on this anyway!" Six's shouting went straight into Arcade's ears, providing Arcade with the necessary strength to escape. "Something like this, it's too awesome to pass up!"
Velvet was now attempting to reason with Six. "But Six." Terrifying as this situation was, Velvet's posture was absolute. "Arcade and Mobius are geniuses, yes? You can't just ignore these warnings!" Now Six wasn't even facing them. Suddenly, Velvet's posture was a lot more weak. "Please Six! We can take Remnant without using this thing's... abilities. Isn't that right you guys?" Velvet's eyes went to Ruby, who was now wearing Boone's various accessories. "Ruby?"
All eyes were now on Ruby. Aside from Six, Ruby was the only one with a relatively calm appearance. "Can I toggle the switch?" Now the Companions were certain Ruby was Six's ideal apprentice. Signaling to Ruby, Six gave the little one permission to commence what was likely the Mojave's annihilation. "YES! Thank you, Six, thank you!" She went to Six's side.
"Come on guys, calm yourselves." Six spoke nonchalantly, arms crossing. "Two things. Oh, well, three now, I guess. One, Mobius told us there's only a 60% chance the Mojave goes... well, you all saw the custom visuals." Only 60%?! Six was always one to take gambles, even when the stakes were extreme. "Secondly, the possible resources this thing will give us, I won't just lose it all." She went to Velvet's side, abruptly starting to play with the Faunus' ears. "Yes, as we are now, we can launch an invasion into Vale." That wasn't really true. The NCR was still undergoing preparations. A few more months were necessary, according to various Generals. "Lastly, Ruby's already activating the machine."
Everyone's eyes were now widening, all now looking towards the various switches on the machine. Now the panicking was starting. Yang, Veronica, Arcade, Blake, along with everyone else, they were now running across the complex, screaming the whole time. Coco was attempting to comfort Velvet as much as possible. Ulysses was maintaining his strong posture, not even moving. Cass, since she was still Cass, was now consuming all the whiskey still inside the complex.
From seemingly nowhere, Mobius came into view, interrupting everyone's panicking. "Good news everyone!" His voice was so calming. Aside from Six, Mobius was the sole individual ensuring Big MT wasn't going to crumble into pieces. "It seems the Mojave is safe. As it turns out, there were some errors involving my calculations."
Finally, some sane words from an individual who was 100% not sane. Now certain they weren't all going to explode, the Companions were now celebrating. "There was a 96.34% chance this little operation was going to annihilate the Mojave, not a 60% chance." Suddenly, cheering wasn't on the table. "Not that it matters, seeing as this was a success. Well, I will see you all in a few weeks."
Six was now nervously chuckling. "Well..." Everyone was certain she was about to say something extremely foolish. "I won't lie..." Here it comes. "Knowing me, I still might've taken the chance." Everyone's expectations concerning Six's abnormally large foolishness were officially shattering. From there, everyone except Ruby and Velvet were all given permission to strike Six in the face twice.
A whole night came to pass. Six, now in some welcoming attire, was carefully injecting a few Stimpacks whilst marching alongside a select few companions. They were marching towards the Mojave's newest location. This new complex was, in foundation terms, quite medieval looking. It was quite the intriguing spectacle. And in the event this transferring process wasn't permanent, Six and the Companions were going to need to move in right away to investigate.
Looking to the companions she chose to tag along, Six gave them all separate smirks. Ulysses, Joshua, Velvet, and Ruby. Ruby's entire soul was still filling with excitement, Velvet was, as she usually is, nervous looking, Ulysses wasn't saying anything, and Joshua was reading from his personal Bible. "Okay then." Six spoke to the lucky individuals. "Everyone recall why I chose to organize this specific team?"
Joshua was the first to approach Six. "Because you made me a promise. A promise that I will receive the chance to spread God's words to outsiders." There was now a stern look on Joshua's face. "But, assuming you are wrong... assuming there are only more savages awaiting us..." Joshua was starting to scare Six. "Disappointment is the consequence you will face."
Six took a few steps away from Joshua. She was always one to value safety... usually. Ruby, sensing a long lasting silence approaching, spoke to Six. "Well, I'm already sure about the reason you me orders to come." Ruby's adorable little smile was going to give someone a toothache. "Because I'm so charming, yeah? Yeah, that's it. They're all gonna wanna make friends with me. And that's probably convenient, 'cause... um, well. according to Mobius, you stole them away from a separate universe."
Though Ruby's voice/expression were as welcoming as they always were, the words she spoke were exaggeratedly mean. Meanwhile, Ulysses was just standing there, crossing his arms. Even though the ex-Legionnaire wasn't a overtly enthusiastic individual, exploration was still in his DNA.
Still not entirely sure why she was there, Velvet spoke to Six, who was now attempting to survey the area through more accurate means. "Um, Six?" Velvet's stammering, as quiet as it was, immediately stole Six's attention. "I can assume why you made all the others join you on this... mission." She let out a few nervous coughs. "But, why me?" Was that even a serious question?
Six gave Velvet's shoulders a few pats. "Because you're so freaking cute, that's why." Well that was certainly... a reason. Just not a very well thought out one. "We might run into some raiders, which usually isn't a fun time." Usually she says. "And there's also the chance that we might scare someone when we walk towards them all intimidatingly while carrying all these guns." Was concealing weapons not an option then? "And that, Velvet, is where you come in. No one is gonna shot anywhere close to someone as cute as you, and that's a fact." While it was still quite the complement to Velvet, there were several open tears in that strategy.
Everyone took a few minutes to completely accept the fact that Six made Velvet come with them solely thanks to the Faunus girl's excessive cuteness. "Okay then, it's officially moving time." Six spoke while taking a seat on the sandy terrain. She took out a large Gauss Rifle, using its scope to zoom in on the complex.
Aside from the friendlies residing in Jacobstown, there were next to no Super Mutants who were courageous enough to remain in the Mojave. Since the night where several Nightkin made the foolish choice to attack while Rex was traveling in the Courier's party, Six, with little to no restrictions, made it a goal to assault all non-friendly Super Mutants across the Mojave. The two exceptions were Jacobstown and Tabitha at Black Mountain. The Mutants, the smart ones anyway, were starting to realize there was no logical way to face the Companions.
Despite the absence in mutants, Six was able to locate a small Nightkin outpost. She made the assumption these Nightkin were all veterans from Black Mountain, which, given the assault the Companions let loose against mountain's facilities, was quite a surprise. As a whole, the Nightkin outpost's existence wasn't anything to concern the NCR's various leaders with. Even the few remaining Khans were capable enough to slay the Nightkin alone.
And so, these few remaining mutants were now going to serve a genuine purpose. Though no companions were aware, Six, using some technologies from Mobius' collection, made sure the Nightkin were going to take an interest in the area. Thus, these Nightkin were now going to attack the fortress. Now, that isn't the experiment style you might expect Six to utilize. And usually, this was the case. But there were two positives that came with guiding the Mutants there.
One, assuming the fortress' inhabitants were able to effectively fight against the Nightkin, at least to the point where they sent the mutants running, then those same inhabitants were most likely useful assets when considering future operations against the Legion, mainly the upcoming invasion. And, according to some calculations from Arcade, these Nightkin, assuming no one was going to step in and stop them, were likely to attack Novac.
The Nightkin are able to effectively massacre everyone inside the complex? That outcome unfortunately means Six made the wrong choice. Which in turn means seeking alternative ways to obtain new forces. But, assuming the assets were rewarding enough, assuming the people inside were able to survive the onslaught, then it means Six was right to take the risk at Big Mountain.
Observing the complex with the Gauss Rifle, Six saw the Nightkin already leaving marks on the area. Several mutants were, not unexpectedly, slaughtering the fortress' men at a steady rate. These men were all wearing a Knight's attire. This was enough to tell Six these people actually came from a moment in the past. At least something on that line. Mobius spoke about time travel often. So this wasn't exactly groundbreaking to Six.
Despite all the loses occurring, a single Knight on the outside was still alive. Actually, this guy was more than just alive. He was slicing his way through several Nightkin waves. He was able to effectively one-shot every single schizo coming his way, including the more intelligent Nightkin with firearms. Now certain what to expect, Six threw the Gauss Rifle into the Pip-Boy's inventory.
"Men!" Apparently Six was ignoring Ruby and Velvet's obvious genders. "It seems that... given unknown reasons, Nightkin are attacking the fortress that came in from Mobius' signal." If felt kind of wrong to lie. "We should go and aid them right away."
As one, the Companions were now all flying towards the action. Descending from the cliffside, the small force was able to reach this new mark on the Mojave in less than a minute. But there was no time to praise the new landscape. Several invading Nightkin were now aggressively running towards them, weapons ready to fire.
Ruby was quick to react, equipping the Crescent Rose. Ulysses, Six, and Joshua were all watching in amazement as Ruby was massacring the few remaining Mutants in a way that made it look as simple as walking. She was truly going places as a Huntress. Velvet, still Velvet, was unwilling to witness the violence.
Assuming she wasn't already the strongest, Ruby was extremely close to surpassing Ulysses as the strongest amongst the Companions. Of course, that is assuming one excludes Six as a comparison. Even now, Six was still the most powerful person in the Mojave, maybe even the strongest in the New World.
Velvet was now searching the surrounding area, looking to stumble across the same Knight who was seen fighting against the Nightkin's onslaught. But as strange as it was, there was no one else in sight. Velvet was lucky enough to at least see the Knight's shield, its location close to the man's original position. Maybe there was still a chance to return it to the man?
"Hey, Six?" Ruby's voice was a little shaky, as she was carefully attempting to avoid stepping on the massive gore pile. She got a "Yeah?" from Six. "Why are we calling ourselves the Companions anyway?" The question made Six smile. "I always it's 'cause you... well... you take us with you... well-"
Ruby was, unfortunately, receiving no answers. At least not the ones she initially sought. "Sorry, my sweet little Rose." Ruby's face was now crimson. Why was Six still using those annoying nicknames? "Tales like those, I only share 'em on special occasions." How was this not a special occasion?! "Just forget about it. Right now we've still got a castle to explore!" Six was now moving towards what she thought was a castle.
"I think it's an ancient Keep." Ulysses was correcting Six?! This was something few individuals were courageous enough to attempt. "I was reading about them while traveling across..." Ulysses saw Six's upsetting glance. "Forget it, I guess." Not wanting to engage with Six, Ulysses went to Joshua's side instead.
Before continuing, Six saw the new medieval item Velvet was carrying. "Mine!" She was snatching it away from Velvet as soon as the opening was available. Six was now analyzing the shield's craftsmanship, all the small little features. "Yeah, I'm positive this is mine now." Velvet was unable to say anything, still comprehending Six's impossible speeds. "Putting this on my wall!"
"Hey... I don't think that's quite the-" Woosh. Thanks to Six's reaction time, she saw the arrow as it was passing all the Companions. It came extremely close to striking Velvet in the torso. Luckily, Velvet's senses gave the ability to swerve away just in time.
Six, now furious, was immediately looking to gaze upon the soulless individual who was naive enough to attempt to take everyone's favorite Velvet. She went to stare at the Keep's walls, seeing the enemy.
It was... just some random guy. "Uh, sorry." Well, at least this one was nice. From his appearance, Six's not so subtle assassin was most likely the one commanding the Keep's forces. "That was an accident." His excuse made Six frown. "Hey, come on now. At least I said I was sorry. Oh, and I'll need Loghain's Shield."
