Deathstroke The Terminator is the world's deadliest mercenary, and his reputation goes beyond the extraordinary. Everyone knows his name, his brutality and his effectiveness, and that is enough to impose fear in everyone's hearts.
If Deathstroke accepts a contract, rest assured that Slade will complete it.
Whatever it takes.
Slade has never failed a contract in his mercenary career and he will never fail it.
However, there is one type of contract that Deathstroke always continues to refuse, even though they are offered to him all the time.
That is the contracts on heroes and especially on Bats.
Deathstroke knows that he, if organized and prepared well, could kill every member of the Justice League. Sure, it certainly wouldn't be a walk in the park, but he would be very successful at killing heroes.
However, he does not accept these types of contracts for two reasons.
The first is that, although he detests 99% of the heroes, he knows full well that without them there would be super-villains who would profit from their deaths and be a total pain in the ass. So Slade lets the heroes live so that they can take care of those pain in the ass in such a way that they do not become his problem.
The second reason is that if Slade killed a hero, or even worse a Bat, sooner or later he would have to suffer the wrath of Nightwing.
And Slade is not exactly dying to get on Richard's bad side. Because he is one of the few who knows how much true potential hides underneath Nightwing and how actually dangerous and deadly Grayson could be if only he would turn to the dark side or the gray side of the world.
And let's say that although Slade is not actually afraid of Nightwing (as if!) he knows that Richard would hunt him down until one of them was dead.
And Deathstroke is not so sure he would get out alive if he went up against a Nightwing with no self-control and no scruples.
Of course, in a straight fight and if Deathstroke fought at his 100% unrestrained level against an (almost) everyday Nightwing, Richard would actually have little chance of surviving.
But Slade is not stupid at all. He knows that Richard is a patient person and that Grayson would spend entire months and years devising a plan to take him down permanently. And Richard has been trained for nearly a decade by the Bat, the most paranoid man in the world who keeps hundreds and hundreds of contingency plans for every single situation, even the most unimaginable ones.
And in addition, Richard also trained under Slade himself, one of the best fighters and strategists in the world.
Nightwing is not only a highly capable fighter who easily ranks in the top seven of the world's best fighters (even above the Bat), but he is also an excellent strategist, an excellent hacker, and out of the ordinary tactical intelligence and not to be underestimated otherwise you are dead before you can blink.
Not to mention that Richard has fought Slade many, many times and by now knows his fighting style.
Of course, Slade also knows Richard's but the guy has an advantage over him.
Unpredictability.
Although Slade can boast that he can predict the moves of most of his enemies and act with the best countermove thanks to his super serum, it is a different story with Richard.
Grayson is the most unpredictable person Slade has ever met, and the mercenary never knows what the hell is going on in that guy's head.
So a lethal and unscrupulous Deathstroke at his 100% against an equally lethal and unscrupulous Nightwing, who devises plan after plan after plan to kill him once and for all, and with his unpredictability on his side...
Slade is not so arrogant to think that he could get out of this alive and intact.
Either he would be killed by Nightwing (and Grayson is one of the few that Slade truly respects and accepts being killed by) or he would win the hard way and lose some other body part (like his other eye, a leg or who knows what the fuck else).
So no thanks, Slade wants to go on living and possibly with all his body parts thank you very much.
I know what you guys are thinking.
What about the contracts on Nightwing?
In this case Slade is not suicidal to accept this contract. If Slade killed Richard, he would be up against literally the whole fucking hero community and even some villains and they would all want his head, especially the damn Bats
Moreover, Slade was sure that Grayson's death would finally push the Bat over the edge and that Wayne would personally make sure Deathstroke inhaled his last breath.
So no, not even for fucking world domination would Deathstroke accept a contract on Nightwing.
He was not crazy and suicidal.
Besides, maybe and just maybe Slade had grown a little attached to the guy and it would be a real shame to kill him off.
And if every time some asshole who wanted to hire Deathstroke to kill Nightwing died within 48 hours, it was not his problem at all and was just a fortuitous coincidence.
No one could hurt his Renegade.
