X798
Blaze walked across a somewhat grassy path, making her way to the deserted ruins of a small village. She dragged a monster carcass behind her, the result of her hunting trip.
As she passed through the gate at the front of the village, the ruins were replaced with an undamaged town containing a few dozen people. To an outsider, Blaze and her carcass would have disappeared once they entered the camouflaging Enchantment that had been cast upon the town.
Blaze continued to drag the carcass toward the building that had been designated a mess hall. There, the meat would be properly cooked and preserved by Jet and Droy. The two of them had decided to handle food matters, having lost the will to fight after Levy and the others died in the disaster seven years prior.
When Blaze ran into Droy outside the mess hall, she gave him the carcass and he thanked her.
"We'll be able to feed the whole village with this," said Droy, smiling. "By the way, while you were out Lucy called for a meeting about an hour from now. Apparently, she has some sort of big announcement to make."
"I wonder what it is," mused Blaze, thinking about the one-armed mage. She was one of the town's leaders, along with Hibiki, Ajeel, and Wendy.
The four each held a different role within the town, yet all of them were equally important. Ajeel, as a former military commander, managed the fighters (like Blaze), from combat training to hunting to scouting parties. Conversely, Lucy handled the civil side of things, not unlike a mayor. Hibiki was more of a manager, organizing the village's resources and controlling their distribution.
Finally, Wendy was their doctor and their supplier for the various Enchantments used by the people to survive. If not for her, Acnologia would have long since tracked down the village and eliminated its dragon slayers.
Blaze gave a wry smile. Thinking about Acnologia's dragon slayer hunting brought back her memories of the ordeal she went through to become one of the village's fighters. Fortunately, her stubbornness eventually forced everyone to accept it (or rather, that she would inevitably try to sneak out on her own), on the condition that all of Blaze's clothes were enchanted to hide her dragon slayer traits from the Black Dragon's sense.
"Sis!" cried Iggy, snapping Blaze out of her thoughts. Him and Asuka ran up to her. "You're back!"
"How was the hunting trip?" asked Asuka, looking for a story. "Did anything cool happen?"
"As a matter of fact, yes," answered Blaze, grinning. "I was scouring the area for some big game, when I came across a huge beast…"
She spent the next ten minutes regaling the two with an exaggerated tale of her slaying the monster she had brought back. After finishing, Blaze went to her and Iggy's shack to rest until it was time for the big meeting.
"Everyone," started Lucy as the meeting began. "I've been talking with Wendy, and we've developed a plan to fix everything."
Those present murmured at Lucy's bold claim. Given that an unstoppable dragon roamed the world, leaving a trail of destruction wherever it went, 'fixing everything' seemed pretty ludicrous.
"We're going to use the very thing responsible for starting this disaster seven years ago," continued Lucy. "The Eclipse Gate."
"But the Eclipse Gate was one of the first things Acnologia destroyed," said Hibiki, confused but curious. A large scar stained the face of Blue Pegasus's sole remaining member, covering his right temple and eye (which was covered by an eyepatch). "How can we use it?"
"I've been working with Irene, and we've devised an Enchantment that should turn back time on the gate, restoring it to the functional, fully-charged state it was in just before the disaster," explained Wendy, referencing the once-great Scarlet Despair, one of the only two survivors of the Spriggan 12's battle with Acnologia.
However, Irene had lost her arms, her legs, and her magic (leaving her trapped in the human form Zeref had given her) to the Black Dragon. All she had been able to do since joining the town six years ago was serve as an Enchantment teacher to Wendy — which, admittedly, had proven invaluable time and time again.
"Grandpa Crux has confirmed that there will be an eclipse two weeks from now," spoke Lucy. "With the twelve Gold Keys in my possession, I can open the Eclipse Gate and we can stop the disaster before it ever happened."
"What's the catch?" asked Ajeel grimly. Like Irene, not all of his body had escaped Acnologia's wrath. His lower torso was now made of sand, in the shape of a scorpion's body.
"Acnologia will sense the Eclipse Gate's restoration," revealed Wendy. "We'll have to hold him off while Lucy activates the gate."
This statement was met with roars of disapproval. The Black Dragon had annihilated countless powerful mages with ease. Even just delaying him was suicide. However, one voice cut through the noise of the protests.
"I will do it!" shouted Sorano emphatically. Everyone was stunned into silence. Though she had never tried to kill herself, Sorano had been an empty shell since the disaster. "Seven years ago, I lost everything. My little sister was kidnapped from under my nose, then taken to the Eclipse Gate where she died in the disaster.
"And I am not the only one. We've all lost everything because of that day. We've been reduced to hiding in a tiny village until we die. If it means getting back everything that gave my life meaning… I would gladly face Acnologia!"
Sorano's words resonated with the others. The refusals from before were replaced with roars of approval.
"Well then," said Lucy with a smile. "It looks like we're fixing a gate."
The next ten days were spent preparing for the mission. It was decided that Hibiki and some fighters would stay behind with the noncombatants and children in case the plan failed. This included Iggy and Asuka, who had a tearful goodbye with Blaze.
On the eleventh day, Lucy, Wendy, Ajeel, Sorano, Blaze (because of her dragon slayer magic), and ten other fighters left for Crocus, hidden by an Enchantment. They arrived the evening of the day before the eclipse, most of them so tense that magic was needed for them to fall asleep.
The next day, a minute before the beginning of the eclipse, Wendy cast powerful Enchantments upon her allies and got to work on the gate.
Wendy's body transformed, shifting from her human form to her dragon form. The Sky Dragon bore a strong resemblance to her mother, Grandeeney, except a bit smaller and with brown eyes.
"Enchant: Return!" declared Wendy. A large amount of the area's rubble began to glow and piece itself together where the Eclipse Gate once stood. The work was quick, but not quick enough.
About half a minute later, Acnologia appeared. The Black Dragon roared, filling the most fighters with fear. Ajeel, Lucy, and Sorano, though, simply glared.
"Stand tall, and don't forgot that we're fighting for everyone's sake!" shouted the Desert King. "This is for everything you've taken from us, Acnologia! Sands of Death!"
A gigantic wave of sand rose from the ground to engulf the dragon. Acnologia parted the wave with a blast from its hand, only to get struck by an intense soundwave. The attack had come from the horn of Raguel, an angel that Sorano had spent 10 Angel Coins to summon.
More spells followed, courtesy of the other fighters. Their comrades' actions had stirred them into attacking the Black Dragon. For her part, Blaze fired a Hell Flame Dragon's Roar at Acnologia.
Sadly, their actions did little more than irritate the dragon. Acnologia cast a spell of his own, carpet-bombing the area with star-like lights that exploded upon impact. Ajeel used his magic to protect the Eclipse Gate, Wendy, and Lucy (who was conserving her strength for the gate). Sadly, this left his own body defenseless. After the attack ended, all that remained of the Desert King was his vitrified lower body.
The others dodged the attack, or at least tried to. Six of them died in the blast, and another two were badly injured, leaving only Blaze, Sorano, and two others in fighting shape. Luckily, those losses were not in vain.
"It's done!" cried Wendy, the Eclipse Gate restored. As Lucy started to activate the gate, the world grew darker with the beginning of the solar eclipse. Wendy barely noticed this, though, turning to face Acnologia with a glare. "This is for my family! Sky Dragon's Roar!"
The Black Dragon responded with his own Dragon's Roar, the two spells clashing in midair. Unfortunately, Acnologia's quickly won out, pushing through Wendy's attack and slamming into the Sky Dragon.
The blast knocked Wendy onto her back and left her dazed. Before she could get back up, Acnologia unleashed another Dragon's Roar. Wendy was barely able to react in time, moving enough to avoid instant death at the cost of her right legs, right wing, and a chunk of her right torso. The Black Dragon would have finished Wendy off then, but he was distracted by the Eclipse Gate beginning to open.
"Hurry!" shouted Lucy, her voice full of desperation as she used her Magic Power to keep the gate open. "Before he destroys it again!"
Blaze, Sorano, and the two remaining fighters, scattered by Acnologia's attack, ran for the Eclipse Gate. Realizing their intentions, Acnologia unleashed another shower of exploding blasts.
"No!" declared Wendy. As the star-like light began to fall and her body died, she performed two final acts. "Blaze, take my power!"
A surge of Magic Power shot from the Sky Dragon's mouth and toward the Hell Flame Dragon Slayer's. Blaze swallowed Wendy's gift, and a massive amount of energy flooded every part of her being.
"What… what is this?" thought Blaze.
["It's my power as a Sky Dragon,"] spoke Wendy's voice, directly into Blaze's head. The dragon slayer stumbled and was almost hit by one of Acnologia's blasts, but she was able to recover in time. ["I gave it to you because my body was dying, and I wanted to help you reach the Eclipse Gate. By the way, I also performed a Personality Enchantment to copy my mind into your body so I could help you to use my power. For example…"]
"Ile Vernier," cast Wendy through Blaze. Suddenly, the attacks raining down on her appeared to slow down, becoming easy to dodge as she moved toward the gate.
Acnologia noticed the dragon slayer's progress and gave a furious roar. He fired another Dragon's Roar at the Eclipse Gate, intending to destroy it.
"No you don't!" screamed Sorano, using all of her remaining life and Magic Power to summon Shamsiel between the Black Dragon and his target. The angel's body stalled Acnologia's attack for several seconds before being annihilated. The Dragon's Roar then continued toward its destination.
Just a moment before the spell obliterated the Eclipse Gate for a second time, Blaze was able to slip through it. She found herself hurtling through time as the power of Sky Hell Flame Dragon Mode (as she mentally dubbed it while rushing toward the gate) rapidly drained from her body.
This sudden loss in power was too much for Wendy's freshly implanted consciousness. She fainted, leaving Blaze alone in her mind again as she landed underneath the Domus Flau during the opening ceremonies of the X791 Grand Magic Games.

"…and then I returned to the graveyard and revealed myself to Dad," said Future Blaze (who had been unimaginatively nicknamed F-Blaze), finishing her story of how she got here. All of Fairy Tail gawked at the time traveler. Even for them, this was crazy.
"So," started Mavis. Having known about the Eclipse Gate from Zeref, she was able to recover from the shock of a time traveler first. "Has F-Wendy's personality woken up yet?"
With a guild mark on her lower back, F-Blaze was able to perceive Mavis. Her demeanor and voice shifted slightly as she responded. "Yes. I woke up two days ago. By the way, if we can find the time, I'd like to pass on my knowledge of Enchantments to my younger self."
"Sadly, I think that will have to wait," said Makarov, ignore the twinkle in the eyes of both Wendys. "I think everyone here needs a little bit of time to process your story. We'll continue this conversation tomorrow morning, after we've all had some time to rest. Then, once you've told us about this 'disaster' you two came back in time to prevent, you can teach our Wendy."
"Ah! Of course!" said F-Wendy hurriedly, blushing and nodding. She bowed in apology. "I didn't think about how much this would be to take in! I'm sorry!"
With that, she let F-Blaze resume control and the Fairies all dispersed for bed, alcohol (especially Cana), or both.
Omake
F-Blaze felt the warm bodies of her parents, brother, and past self around her. She could hear them (and Happy, who Blaze was hugging to her chest) breathing lightly as they slept.
After Makarov put the meeting on pause, her parents had taken F-Blaze and their present kids to the Dragneels' inn room. After a few minutes of preparation, they had all gone to sleep together on the same bed. During this whole process, they didn't bring up sleeping arrangements or whether or not to accept F-Blaze. Not even once.
A smile crept its way onto her face. For the first time in years, F-Blaze slept surrounded by her entire family.
AN: In case I wasn't clear in the Omake, part of F-Blaze's happiness comes from the fact that accepting her was so natural to the Dragneels that they didn't even need to talk about doing it. Also, the reason F-Blaze and F-Wendy knew the details about Yukino's kidnapping was because Sorano explained the details to everyone in the days leading up to the mission.
Next chapter will explain the 'disaster,' along with how Future Ajeel and Future Irene ended up joining the group. Until then… goodbye!
