Chapter 40: Final Days
(School)
"Alright, class. You got just a few days left before your exams come up. So take this opportunity to do some catching up and revise. I'll let you do your work and you can come to me if you need any help."
Kira's class immediately got into groups and started doing their own thing. Gossip girls were gossipping, the nerds studying, the jocks chilling at the back of the class.
Gumball and his group of friends casually studied as they were talking about what they would do after highschool.
"Probably travel. I'd love to see what the world's got in store." said Kelsey.
"Maybe I could come with. You do need a 'partner' after all, right?" Jake replied.
"Sure thing, partner."
"Me and Ivan could be doing some spray painting before we move on for university. I sent an application for an art school nearby." Teri said.
"I'm probably not looking to get into a university. Maybe get a job or do some commission with some artwork." Ivan continued.
"I'm most probably gonna end up helping my brother at his workplace." Anna said.
"I don't think the rest of us have much planned. Get on with highschool and see what we can do from there." Gumball said on behalf of the Wattersons.
"How about you, Cato?" Carrie asked.
Throughout the conversation, Cato and Amber have been keeping their mouths shut, not saying a word. They were still unsure about the group's reaction about their own plan.
"Well, uhh..we thought.."
"I hope whatever you're talking about is related to your exams." Kira interjected. Cato and Amber took a quick sigh of relief.
"We're talking about what we wanna do after school." Darwin answered.
"You mean, hang out at the mall like most of the time you guys go out as a group?"
"No, I mean after we're done with highschool. After we graduated."
"Well, as much as that is interesting to hear, you still need to get through with your exams before doing any of that." Kira said, followed by groans by the group.
Kira floated over the other groups to have a check on them. "Well, you heard her. We need to get studying." Cato said.
"Uh uh uh. We told what we would be doing. You guys should share yours too." Gumball said, as if he actually knew what really was going on.
"I got a scholarship to a college in New York." Amber said hurriedly.
A quiet moment passes in the group before all their faces lit up and voices came at her in stereo.
"Congrats, Amber."
"That's really cool."
"You're pretty lucky."
"That's my cousin."
Finally, Anna brought up the question both Amber and Cato dreaded.
"When are you guys leaving?"
Another moment of silence passes as the group awaited an answer. "We were planning August. But there won't be any promises that we won't leave sooner." Cato said.
"I think that's enough plan for a summer break together. At least for the first month and a half before you guys would get ready to pack up." Kelsey said, being the person to see the bright-side of things.
It made Amber and Cato feel better about it nonetheless.
"Alright, we should probably do what Kira says and start studying." Darwin said.
"Mrs. Watterson." Kira replied from the gossip girls group, overhearing them.
(After school)Carrie, Cato and Amber was walking (and floating) back home. They decided to just have a slow day and not teleport/race home since a slow day was all they were getting.
Carrie was having a bit of a long face all day, although trying hard to not make it obvious. However, Amber took note of it. It was ever since they were study-grouping and talked about what they would do after school. Cato, on the other hand, was completely oblivious to this.
"Something the matter, Carrie?" Amber asked.
"What?" Carrie asked, again concealing her sad face.
"You got something on your mind?"
"Not really. Nothing big."
"If it's nothing big, then you got no problem telling us." Cato said, smirking.
"I hate you, Cato." Carrie gave him a sour look, but also knowing it wouldn't phase him. She caved in moments later. "I was thinking about what you two said earlier. Your scholarship and all."
"What about it?" Amber asked.
"Not that I don't like it that you're leaving to do what you like, don't get me wrong. It's cool that you got a chance to do what you love." Carrie's defensive tone lowered as she looked at the ground. "I just kinda wondered how it would feel like. When you two first came to stay with me, the mansion seemed...lively for once. It never got boring since most nights it's just me reading a book or studying rituals. You guys moving in taught me to loosen up a bit, live my afterlife like a teenager, watch tv, go shopping. What happens after?"
"Carrie..."
"I know. I'm just rambling. I'll just figure out-"
"Listen, couz." Amber started, stoping her and cutting her off. Cato too stopped a step ahead of them. Amber looked into Carrie's eyes. "I know you're gonna miss us, but that's no reason to stop doing what you want around the mansion. Besides, Andrew is still there. You can invite the others there from time to time if you want. You can make the mansion feel lively." Tears start forming in Amber's eyes. "But I do know..that I really, really, really am gonna miss you, Carrie."
Carrie too started tearing up. "Amber, you're not even leaving yet and you're already making me cry."
They pulled into a hug, crying on each others' shoulders. "Oh Carrie." Amber said.
A moment of embrace between the two ghosts.
"Alright, guess I'll move on first. See you ladies at home." Cato said, turning to leave them to their bonding moment. Not that they would answer him anyway, since they were still hugging as he left.
3 months was all they have left. 3 months before they would part ways.
And time was cutting short.
Heyyy. I'm gonna leave that chapter there. I just wanted a short chapter put out about Cato and Amber telling about leaving and thankful for them, it didn't go like they thought. Just a few more chapters left till the end, but I'm already missing doing this. Anyway, drop a comment on what you guys think and I'll see you guys in the next chapter. Peace out!
