Chapter 3 Noda
Tobio Kageyama was thinking back on yesterday's practice. Hinata seemed more and more distracted this week. Hinata kept complaining about his stomach and would get winded too easily. This is not what needs to be happening this close to the start of the new year. This was their last year to prove to universities that they should be on their team. He was not going to let Hinata mess this up for him.
I know he's upset still about being an unknown, but come on, get your head in the game. He thought to himself.
But the more and more he thought about it the more he worried. Not about himself, but about Hinata. They have always been like magnets from when they first met. There was a pull that no matter how upset they got with each other they always came back. And came back stronger.
However, this last year Kageyama has been thinking about his partner in more than just a teammate. At night he would toss and turn having more detailed dreams about his little red-haired partner.
"You should check on him. You know you want too." A taunting voice rang through Kageyama's head.
'Shut up Noda' he thought.
While each person had a second nature, only a few could actually speak to theirs. Noda is the name of Kageyama's second nature. When he closes his eyes and concentrates, he could even sometimes see Noda.
Noda was a wolf. A big wolf with fur as black as Kageyama's hair and had piercing blue eyes. Eyes that Kageyama would use during a game to help him judge distance better. While he was good in middle school, it wasn't until his second year when Noda came that he got even better.
"Come on Kage, I want to see him too." Kageyama could hear Noda's smile in his voice.
'I'm going to see him tonight when we meet up with everyone. I can ask him what's going on then."
Most of the team from his first year were meeting up tonight. While Daichi Sawamura, Kōshi Sugawara and Asahi Azumane were all getting ready for their school to start back, they still liked to check in on the old team. Kageyama still wasn't sure how they were going to do this year without Yū Nishinoya Ryūnosuke Tanaka.
Since the success of the first year, last year they did have a lot of new recruits. This year is starting to look like even more people are wanting to join as well. Which is great for the survival of the team. But he missed how small the team used to be. Kageyama was not much in the way of being a people person. That was why he had Hinata.
Wait what?! Where did that thought come from. I can do just fine without him. I just growl at them till they leave me alone.
"Huff you're an idiot." Noda laughed.
'Oh, shut up. Go chase a ball or something.' He thought to Noda
"Chasing balls is what you do too HAHAHA."
While he did like Noda, sometimes he did wish there was a way to have his own time. Noda this year kept egging him on to Hinata. Noda knew what Kageyama dreamed about. He knew because Noda dreamed the same.
'I don't think he swings that way. I don't even know if he has any thought about that kind of thing for either side. Just drop it. I know my rut is coming up in a few weeks. Maybe I can find someone this time.' Though Kageyama knew he would more than likely just hole up in his room, away from everyone like he usually did. And dreamed of something he couldn't have.
"You never know till you ask" Noda wasn't giving up.
-Later that night-
Coach Keishin Ukai and Ittetsu Takeda sat at a table waiting for the rest to arrive. So much has changed this last year and wanted to give Daichi, Sugawara and Asahi an update. Ennoshita was a great team captain this last year. And Takeda, hoped Ennoshita and Daichi could give this next year's captain some pointers.
They thought long and hard, and though he might think it's too much work, they decide that this year's captain should be Kei Tsukishima.
They both agreed that it needed to be an alpha. Yamaguchi was a beta, and even though it pains him, Hinata is still an unknown. Kageyama, is an alpha, however they didn't feel like he would be the best fit for captain. So even though it was a hard sell for Tsukishima, he agreed to be captain.
Tsukishima might have started out his first year not caring one way or another but by the end, Takeda and Ukai both could see the passion start to form. Then this last year he did take on more of a role helping the newer recruits. He didn't always seem happy about it, but in the end, he always came through.
Kageyama was more focused on mostly improving himself instead of others. While he has definitely gotten better then when he first started here at Karasuno. He still didn't have much room for people he thought would get in his way.
Daichi, Sugawara and Asahi all walked in together and made their way to the table. They were excited to catch up with everyone. Yamaguchi and Tsukishima came in next. Daichi already knew that Tsukishima was going to be the next captain, but Suga and Asahi hadn't heard yet.
Kageyama followed in shortly after and of course took a seat at the farthest end of the table. Noda had not let up all morning and Kageyama was not in a good mood. While on any other day he would be happy to see the whole gang, there was only one person he really felt like he needed to see.
Shimizu and Yachi were the next to arrive. They had met outside, and Yachi was so excited to see Shimizu, she couldn't wait till they got inside to start filling her in on what happened this last year.
"Hello everyone" Shimizu greeted.
Ennoshita came in along with Nishinoya and Tanaka.
Takeda looked around to all his past and present students. He was so proud of them. "I am so happy we could all meet up. Tell me everything that is going on with you guys. How was your first year at university? Are any of you still playing?"
Daichi started to speak but Kageyama spoke up first. "Wait shouldn't we wait for Hinata. Or else you're just going to have to repeat everything." Where was he. He thought for sure Hinata would have been one of the first to arrive.
"Sorry. I guess I forgot to tell you. He texted to let me know he was sick." Ukai stated.
"What! Why didn't he tell me? What's wrong with him?" Kageyama didn't understand why, him not being there, bothered him so much. Noda just kept whispering in his ear to leave.
Tsukishima just looked at him annoyed "calm down. You know he wasn't feeling well yesterday. He probably just over did it and got sick. I'm sure he will be back to practice tomorrow."
"No. I told him to take tomorrow off. I want to make sure he's better for when school starts. I already have a pile of applicates wanting to join. I need all hands-on deck." Ukai was happy the club was growing.
"Sooo the biggest thing to start off with is to congratulate Tsukishima on being this year's captain!" Coach Ukai stated.
"Wow" "congratulation" "WooHoo!" "That's awesome" the group shared.
The conversation continued for a little, but Kageyama wasn't paying attention.
"We should go." Noda was not happy either.
'That would be rude.' He thought back to Noda.
"Huff… like you care" and Noda was right.
Kageyama stood up gaining everyone's attention. "I'm not feeling that great either. Sorry guys." He got up and left before anyone could say anything to stop him.
The others looked at him weird. But that was Kageyama, he wasn't always the most social.
-Hinata's house-
'Why didn't he text me?' Kageyama asked Noda.
"Let's go find out" Noda almost purred. He wanted to check up on Hinata after yesterday's practice, but Kageyama didn't want to bother him.
As he walked to Hinata's house, Kageyama just got more and more angry.
"Calm down, I'm sure once you see him and vent a little, you'll be all better" But Kageyama knew that Noda was upset too.
Standing outside the front door he paused. The were no lights on that he could see. 'Maybe he already went to bed. And he is sick.'
"NO!" Noda growled surprising Kageyama. "NEED IN THERE NOW!"
'It's locked. What do you want me to do break in. Plus, the lights are out? I don't want to wake him up if he's asleep.' He didn't understand what was wrong with Noda.
"NOW! NEED IN THERE NOW!"
Something wasn't right. He tried ringing the bell but nothing. So, he tried knocking loudly. Still nothing.
"NOW!"
'Ok, ok. I'll try around back. What is with you?' Kageyama opened the back gate and stopped. What is that smell?
Now that he thinks about it, he could smell something like this at the front of the house, but it wasn't very strong. Now that he was in the back yard, it was more noticeable.
It smelled like fresh apples and warm cinnamon, so sweet Kageyama wanted to smell more.
"NEED NOW!" Noda was practically scratching on the inside of Kageyama to get out. He wanted to take over and rush inside. He wanted in there.
The back door was unlocked. 'Dumbass left the door unlocked. Good for us but not safe.'
"Hey dumbass you left the door unlocked!" he yelled but no answer.
The smell was getting stronger, and Kageyama felt like the room was on fire with the amount of heat. His breath was getting deeper and deeper as he made his way to Hinata's room.
He had been there a few times over the last few years.
What he saw next stopped him dead in his tracks.
"MINE! WANT! NOW!" Noda was growling
Hinata was laying on the floor with his pants almost to his ankle. Slick was running down the back of his legs and he was grinding his hips to the floor. The heat and sweet smell of apples was coming from him.
Hinata is an omega.
