"Santana!" Brittany shouts sobbing.
She drops to the ground, cradling Lord Tubbington in her arms.
"LT, you have to be okay." Brittany sobs. "Santana!" she shouts again.
Santana comes running in wearing only a towel having just gotten out of the shower.
"What's wrong Britt Britt?" Santana softly asks.
"He's not moving." Brittany sobs.
For a few moments Santana stands there in shock just looking at Brittany and the cat. She can't believe that Lord Tubbington has finally crocked. She never thought it would happen.
"Here Britt, let me see." Santana says kneeling next to her wife.
She takes Lord Tubbington from her. It's obvious to her that he is dead. He doesn't move or try to scratch her.
"I'm sorry Britt, he's gone." Santana softly says.
"No," Brittany sobs.
Santana puts Lord Tubbington down on the ground and wraps her arms around her wife.
"I'm here for you." Santana whispers.
They sit there for twenty minutes, Santana holding Brittany.
"I'm going to go get dressed. I'll be right back." Santana softly says getting up.
"I can't believe he's gone." Brittany sobs.
Santana rushes to their room, throwing on the first shirt and pair of pants she sees. She then heads back to confront her wife.
Sir Fluffster POV
I wake up, surprised that I wasn't woken up by the old one. He's always having me get him things. Most of the time I don't want to but he's way bigger than me so I can't say no. I hear the nice one crying so I head towards the sound. She's normally so happy that I feel the need to comfort her. I stick my head into the little one's room just to check on her. She's still asleep. I'm nearly run over by the mean one. She scares me more than the old one. I say hi to the nice one and go to rub against her. That's when I notice that she's holding the old one and he's not moving. He can't be dead can he?
End POV
"He's really gone." Brittany sniffles looking up at Santana.
"I'm so sorry honey." Santana says hugging her again. "How about I take him and deal with everything."
Brittany sadly nods watching as Santana takes Lord Tubbington away. She grabs Sir Fluffster and hugs him to her. He meows, but let's her squeeze him.
"I can't believe he's gone." Brittany whispers to the cat. "I know you miss too even though he tried to sit on you several times."
Santana peeks in to see her wife curled up on the couch now with Sir Fluffster. She's glad that they have another cat to help her wife.
"Well, Lord Tubbington, I may have hated you in life, but for my wife who loved you. I'm going to plan the best funeral a cat has ever had." Santana says.
First she calls the vet to see what she needs to do to cremate him. The vet offers to have a tech come get the body since losing a pet is traumatic. She agrees mostly cause she doesn't want to have to take public transportation with a dead cat. With the taken care of she gets down to planning the funeral.
'What do you want Santana?' Quinn asks answering the phone on the third ring.
'I need help, I'm calling Rachel as well.' Santana says.
'Shit, what's wrong? Is Brittany and Ariel okay?' Quinn asks.
'They're alive and not hurt. I'll explain the rest once Rachel is on the line.' Santana tells her.
Santana dials Rachel's number hating that she's doing this.
'Santana, what a surprise. You never call me.' Rachel starts.
'I'm on the line too.' Quinn says stopping Rachel from talking more. 'Now what is wrong?' she asks Santana.
'Lord Tubbington is dead.' Santana says running her fingers through her hair.
'That fucker finally kicked the can. I never thought he'd die.' Quinn says.
'That's so sad, how is Brittany?' Rachel asks.
'Thank you, Rachel, that's the reaction I'm going to need when you next talk to Brittany. She's devastated. She's been crying all morning and won't let go of Sir Fluffster.' Santana says.
'You know I'll be all comforting, but still he was the devil.' Quinn points out.
'I know, but I can't seem happy unless I want to end up on the couch.' Santana says.
'The cat was mean.' Rachel agrees. 'That can't be the only reason you called. You could have just texted he was dead.'
'I need help with planning a funeral for him. Britt loves him.' Santana sighs.
'I can't believe you are doing this. You're so whipped.' Quinn says stifling a laugh.
'I'll help anyway I can.' Rachel says.
'Okay, what should I do?' Santana asks.
Rachel decides that she has a great idea and starts talking. Both Santana and Quinn half tune her out until she finishes.
'What do you think?' Rachel asks.
'A little too much.' Quinn says.
'I need something I can actually do.' Santana says.
Twenty minutes later and she has a plan for the funeral that can be done on the weekend. She's also strong armed both of them to send cards to Brittany.
"San!" Brittany shouts.
"Yes honey," Santana says rushing to her.
Brittany is still curled on the couch with Sir Fluffster.
"Can you call the school for me and tell them I need the week off?" Brittany asks sniffling.
"Of course, honey," Santana says. "You just cuddle with Sir Fluffster. I'm handling everything."
"Thank you," Brittany says.
Santana heads out to call the school. Ariel starts to cry. Brittany gets up with Sir Fluffster in her arms, shuffling over to get her daughter. Ariel clings to her neck as Brittany shuffles back to the couch. She holds them both close. She ends up falling asleep.
"Britt, Britt," Santana softly says shacking her. "You should go to bed."
"Can they sleep with us?" Brittany softly asks.
"Of course," Santana says. "I let the Dean know that you'll be missing the week due to a loss in the family."
"Thank you for taking care of things."
00000000000000000000000000000000
The next morning, Santana gets Lord Tubbington's ashes and brings them home before heading to class. She hates that she can't be there for her wife but she can't miss class. While Santana is at school, Brittany lays on the couch mapping with Ariel and Sir Fluffster.
"Britt, I brought pizza." Santana says that Friday when she gets home. "How are you feeling?" she asks coming in.
"A little better," Brittany says from her seat on the couch.
"Good, I think I have something that will really help." Santana says. "Tomorrow morning, we're going to have a funeral for Lord Tubbington."
"Really? You hated him." Brittany says.
"But you loved him." Santana says.
"I love you." Brittany says wrapping her arms around her wife's neck.
"I'm sorry that I wasn't able to be here more this week to help you grieve, but I can't miss school." Santana says.
"It's okay San," Brittany says. "I know how important law school is to you."
"Still, I wish that I could have taken the week off. You and Ariel are more important to me than anything else." Santana says.
Brittany snuggles into her wife's side, relaxing. She loves that Santana has planned a funeral and done so much to help her even though she hated Lord Tubbington. She's been amazing.
The next morning, Santana tells Brittany to get ready. Brittany puts on a modest black dress, crying several times. Santana has a black shirt and black pants on. She helps Ariel into a small black dress.
"Are you ready?" Santana asks.
"Yes, can I bring Sir Fluffster?" Brittany asks.
"I guess," Santana says. "I'll put a leash on him so he doesn't get lost."
Brittany is somber as Santana leads them. She has Lord Tubbington's ashes in her bag. She has Ariel in her arms as Brittany has the cat.
"Where are we going?" Brittany asks.
"Somewhere he'll love." Santana says.
Santana turns to the park, praying that Rachel and Quinn manages to set everything up.
"San," Brittany gasps.
On a hill, next to a hotdog stand is a picnic blanket with all of Lord Tubbington's favorite people food. There's also a plaque saying here lies Lord Tubbington, lover of food.
"This is perfect." Brittany says.
"Really? I wasn't sure so I asked Quinn and Rachel for help. I wanted it to be perfect for you." Santana says so relieved.
"He would have loved this." Brittany says.
"He did love food." Santana says.
They sit down and enjoy an early lunch in Lord Tubbington's honor. Brittany is amazed by the effort her wife put in to this knowing that she hated Lord Tubbington.
"I can't believe you called Rachel for help." Brittany says.
"I figured she'd have some good ideas." Santana says shrugging.
"But still, you hate having to talk to Rachel. Thank you." Brittany says.
"Anything for you." Santana says. "Now let's say some words and spread his ashes."
Sir Fluffster POV
I have no idea why they brought me out here. All I want to do is claim my kingdom now that the old one is gone. I haven't been able to yet as the nice one has kept me close. I don't get why. Though it has been nice. Every time I try to get away, a long rope stops me. It's so embarrassing.
End POV
"Lord Tubbington, you were an amazing cat and friend. You were well behaved expect when you attacked San, but then you got too fat. I'll miss you trying to climb onto things and guarding Ariel. Hopefully, there are tons of diaries to read in cat heaven. I love you and miss you." Brittany says crying the whole time.
"Doooggie!" Ariel shouts.
"Bye," Santana says, that being the nicest thing she can think of.
Santana hands Brittany his ashes and she spreads them under a tree, scattering some into the wind.
"Thank you, San, for being so amazing. I couldn't have handled this without you." Brittany says.
